I didn’t have any muscles to lose, I’m a huge weakling! So I do try and prioritise protein. My hair massively fell out at the 6 month mark and is now all tufty with new hair like a mane around my head.

I also lost loads of hair at around the 6 month mark, huge clumps were coming out and it was visibly much thinner. I started taking pumpkin seed oil capsules and after a couple of months I stopped losing hair and new hair began to grow. It’s now back to how it was before, much thicker and fuller. I was putting it down to the pumpkin seed oil but after reading other peoples posts, including yours @PearlsTeapot I’m starting to think it was probably just coincidence and that it would’ve grown back anyway.

I’ve no idea what my muscle mass is or was, but I do loads of exercise (I did none before MJ) and I certainly feel stronger and have visibly more muscle on my arms and legs. My biceps are stronger and more defined since I started weight training, and my bingo wings have massively improved - still slightly wrinkly but no more saggy skin hanging down (they looked pretty awful about halfway into the journey but so, so much better now). So hopefully I haven’t lost too much muscle 🤞

Fffreeeeezing · 25/03/2026 20:49

The only way to build and maintain muscle mass is to eat plenty of protein, I don’t want to be thin and weak, I want to be strong, I want to be that 93 year old in the news who scaled a 7ft fence to escape the care home. I don’t think protein supplements are aimed at GLP1 users, they’re aimed at everyone who wants to be strong.

I track everything and don’t find it particularly onerous, apps have made it pretty simple. I need to know I’m eating the right amount and not just guessing, I don’t want this journey to go on any longer than it has to!

Billybingbong · 25/03/2026 21:42

I dont think I've lost any muscle mass, but I am tons more active than I used to be. I was virtually housebound before, and did no exercise whatsoever. Now I walk miles, at least 10,000 steps a day, am working through c25k, and have started exercising with resistance bands.

My hair, on the other hand, has really suffered. It was coming out in clumps, and went really thin on top. I'm using minoxidil, taking pumpkin seed oil capsules, and twice weekly batana oil hair masks, and it's now looking really healthy, but still very thin in patches. I've changed my hairstyle to disguise it, and the shedding seems to have massively slowed down, so hopefully over the worst. I've also massively upped my protein, which must be helping.

eibbed999 · 25/03/2026 21:59

My hair is still very thin @Billybingbong - I'm hoping the minoxidil kicks in soon! It's also my age I think.

Yeah, it's not great is it. My hair's still really thin too, but the shedding seems to have slowed down thankfully. I'm no spring chicken too, bloody menopause 😡

GnomeDePlume · 26/03/2026 06:09

Weigh in and jab day

SW 140kg BMI 54.7
CW 92.0kg BMI 35.9
GW 63kg BMI 24.6

14 stone 7lbs in old money. 7 stone 8lbs down.

I'm in London this week instead of WFH. A week of meetings. Been lucky with the food, no beige buffet. Lots of biscuits available at every coffee break but so far I have resisted.

GnomeDePlume · 26/03/2026 07:09

NSVs:

  • for parts of the meeting I have been on camera and havent felt uncomfortable about it
  • going into London 4 days in a row and I'm not running out of energy (2 hour commute each way)
  • I fit in the furniture

I'm under no illusion, I still have a lot of weight to lose but it's going and even now I am enjoying the benefits.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 26/03/2026 08:33

@GnomeDePlume those are great NSVs!

I had a good one today - I put my tights on without sitting down! I could balance and lift my leg high enough for long enough that I could do it standing up - it's the little things 🤣

GnomeDePlume · 26/03/2026 08:39

@RenegadeKeeblerElf that is a great NSV!

It is these ordinary things which matter.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 25/03/2026 18:28

What do those of you who do OMAD make for your meal and get enough calories and nutrients into it?

I just cook what I fancy.
I have never tracked anything.

I don't count calories.

Edited

Me too. I'm sure I'm deficient in everything, but I can address that on maintenance

A great NSV! Well done!

When I first started my weight loss journey my PT set me goals. One was to be able to put my socks on standing up. It took me 6 months of practising before I could do it consistently and now I do it every day without thinking!

AlicesMum2025 · 25/03/2026 14:44

Final post from me today (and sorry I don't keep them short, I'm like this in real life too!).

Is anyone else a bit fed up at the moment? I'm 10 months in to MJ and I'm just a bit fatigued by it all. It almost feels like a full time job, tracking my food and weighing up my food choices. I need the accountability of tracking but it takes up a lot of mental space, I think. I don't often feel food noise, luckily, but I'm always aware that I don't want to be obese/overweight anymore so I have to sustain the changes that I've made with my food and exercise.

Before I started MJ, I felt like if I lost 5 stone I'd be transformed. Well, that didn't happen. Only at 5 stone did I start to see any small difference in my body; up until then I looked almost the same. I'm now at 8 stone loss and it's really showing, but it feels like I'm so far away from where I want to be. I'm a size 16/18 and I thought I'd be happy with a size 16 because I'd be able to go into any clothes shop and find something that fitted. But I'm still very visibly obese (BMI 34.6) so I need to lose quite a lot more still, around about 30kg/4.5 stones.

Healthy BMI for me is max 65kg so I'm aiming for 60kg to have a bit of leeway. Ultimately that means that overall I need to lose 12 stone, so although I'm really pleased with what I've lost so far, the finish line is probably not until November or December. It feels like such a long time to wait and I'm impatient. I'm working so hard to change my life that I feel as if I deserve it now!

(Sorry for mixing kg and stones, I weigh in kg but converted to stones because a lot of people here use those units. This also accounts for any rounding errors.)

@AlicesMum2025 I felt like this about 10 months ago. I was also about 9 months in. I felt flat and a bit "so what?" about both my weight loss and life really. I think looking back that I was firstly coming to terms with the fact that this was it for me for ever really regarding struggling with my weight and having to work hard at it and secondly not being able to use food to mask my emotions. I definitely used to stress eat and use food as a reward.

It did change for me. I stopped comparing myself to others who had started WLI at the same time as me and we're at their target weight
Of course most of them would be as they had probably 6 stone less to use than me! I also tried to reframe my relationship with food - that's ongoing still!

It's a good feeling isn't it! I'm still a way off my daughters who tie their shoes laces by standing on one leg and lifting the other foot up in the air - blows my mind every time they do it!

Ketra · 26/03/2026 13:15

So I'm down to 15 stone 6 this week, which means I am officially the lightest I have been in 12 years - I hated weighing so didn't have my figures for most of the last decade but I do remember I was 15 stone 7 when my brother got married, so I'm using that as my metric. I am in my late 30's and it means I am the lightest I have been since my late 20's.

Also, on the topic of NSV's - the other day I shaved my legs in the shower by you know just bending over like a normal person (for the last few years I've knelt on one knee to reach whilst keeping my balance). I think the NSVs your body does automatically without you thinking about it are the best, as they are so unexpected.

Missingducks · 26/03/2026 13:34

Rosie Made a Thing got it spot on today

Had a salad, if you see me looking skinny tomorrow don't be surprised

PearlsTeapot · 26/03/2026 13:34

Yes! Great NSV there @Ketra love that! I do the same now too. And cut my toenails standing up over the toilet which I’ve never been able to do before.

TragicMuse · 26/03/2026 17:04

I am away at my mum’s. She has a v tall house and my NSV so far is being able to do all the stairs without being out of breath.

I don’t have my scales here so weighing is out till next Tuesday.

Body and weight are very loaded topics so I’m trying to accept that the insane level of praise and scrutiny is well-intentioned but it’s a bit emotional tbh.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 26/03/2026 17:09

I've had an overnight whoosh of 2lb.

This brings me to 10st 5lb.

I wasn't expecting that, as I'd lost 1lb the day before, so essentially I've lost 3lb this week, which is very unusual for me at this stage. I've been losing about 2lb a month for quite a while now.

Oh, and someone has told me that she doesn't think I should get any thinner.
This is someone who has no weird agenda about it, so perhaps I'll stop.

My autistic brain wants me to get to 10st 2lb, as that will be exactly 10st off.

Re - protein. I'm sorry if my comments bothered anybody.

I just wonder why some folk are buying protein shakes and powders.
Can't you just eat fish, meat and other sources of it? I'm honestly asking this, not in an aggressive way.

Maybe I'm missing something about the protein stuff?

MCR24 · 26/03/2026 17:19

I lost barely anything this week, 0.3kg. not even 1lb. It did get me to my next target of having under 1st to lose so that's something!

SW: 142.8kg / 22 stone, 6 lb and 13.1 oz
CW: 66.1kg / 10 stone, 5 lb and 11.6 oz
BMI: 50.8 / 23.5
Total loss: 76.7kg / 12 stone, 1 lb and 1.5 oz
To get to target: 6.1kg / 13 lb and 7.2 oz

SilenceInside · 26/03/2026 17:37

With the disclaimer that I don't use protein shakes/powders or collagen, I think that perhaps if people are finding that the appetite suppression is high on Mounjaro/Wegovy and they are struggling to eat much at all, then using these powders gives you as much as 20 to 25g of protein for not too many calories, and they can manage to drink them when they might not feel like eating.

And some people are aiming for pretty high protein targets, you often see 100g up to 150g mentioned on these boards, which is significantly more than is generally suggested by organisations like the British Nutrition Foundation. They suggest 0.75g of protein per kg of body weight. I am 70kg so that would be around 53g of protein a day for me. Easily done with some greek yoghurt and a serving or two of pulses, tofu, cottage cheese, eggs, low fat cheese etc. Or meat if you aren't vegetarian like me! But if I was aiming for double that at 100g or more then that would be harder to do whilst also sticking to a decent calorie deficit. So I can see that being a driver for using the protein shakes and powders, if people are aiming for those higher protein amounts.

Doggymummar · 26/03/2026 18:23

I always say each to their own with regards supplements and the like but to me, it's a waste of money. If I feel I need protein I'll have scrambled eggs or a tub of cottage cheese. I have had protein bars shakes etc before and didn't feel any different. When menopause first started I saw a nutritional therapist and she said to me they just make expensive pee, and she sold them so, I don't bother.

EnterSandfan · 26/03/2026 19:07

Interesting food for thought on the protein and muscle mass, thanks everyone! I might track what I'm getting for a couple of days.
Sounds like hair loss is a much more common experience... from a vain point of view that worries me as half my hair fell out when I had my son, then loads more fell out when he stopped breastfeeding recently. Can't afford to lose anymore 😆

PearlsTeapot · 26/03/2026 19:19

I find it hard to eat a lot of protein as I don’t like eggs, pulses beans etc.

So a clear whey protein drink is nice and easy. They taste good and I figure can only do me good.

Billybingbong · 26/03/2026 19:38

I use clear whey protein powder. My appetite is so small, I really struggled to get enough protein from food alone, which I think is probably a massive reason for my hair woes. My protein intake has doubled since I started using the powder, as has my fluid intake, and I actually really like the taste. Just like the MJ itself, it might not be for everyone, but it works for me. I'm currently working through a variety box of 10 different flavours, it's yummy.
