hi, I thought I would start a new group. I am waiting for my medical review before being issued with my first dose

On the topic of the podcast I can't see myself being able to stay on MJ for ever, which it seems to suggest is required.

She likens it to someone having high blood pressure and the need to remain on meds for that.

I think the cost associated means that it will be inaccessible long term for most.

I'm not sure how I feel about that.

What dose are you currently on? I’m lucky that I’m responding to low doses, but I’ve got a cunning plan to maintain by ordering a higher dose than I need and then short dosing to make the pen last longer. I’m also finding that by the time I’ve factored in reduced wine consumption and treat trips to Tesco, it’s almost cost neutral.

Junmaro · 10/06/2026 11:35

I really do feel for those who are financially stretched to buy it. I think in the medium term prices will fall as patents expire, but that won’t be for a few years yet sadly.

I'm currently taking 3.75 from a 5 so yes I'm getting more doses from a pen, but when I started I didn't envisage the cost to last more than 6/12 months, so it's taking some adjusting to.

I'm not saving the equivalent on food i don't think either as maintaining the protein/ fibre required is expensive. Carbs are cheap by comparison.

taratill · 10/06/2026 11:42

I am lucky that I can afford it, but do resent the cost. Which is silly in one way because the benefits to health (and weight) massively outweigh the cost.

Even though we are told by the podcast that obesity is a long term disease the NHS clearly can't offer to prescribe to anyone with a BMI over 30 because it would bankrupt it! There aren't any other long term diseases for which the NHS wouldn't prescribe that i am aware of.

Yes, upon reflection, I’ve swapped a chocolate and wine habit for a berry habit and maybe I’m not saving as much as I think.🤔

Definitely healthier though!

Junmaro · 10/06/2026 12:01

On a more general note, I’ve found psyllium husk really effective for constipation and general fibre increase. I’m using the loose stuff, not capsules. It’s not hugely pleasant to drink with water but does so much good I’m willing to overlook it.

taratill · 10/06/2026 12:14

I don't know anything about psyllium husk, except that it is a product that my provider offers as an add on.

Touch wood I'm not really struggling with constipation, adding chia seed daily to fage did the trick.

If it's an unpleasant drink then I worry about my terrible gag reflex so it may not be for me.

SmallTreeDeepRoots · 10/06/2026 14:47

I’m coming round to the idea of long term usage. I’d rather be one of the small minority who maintain without it though! But I think the price will come down significantly - tablets should be cheaper and price should drop as patents expire and new drugs come out. Wegovy dropped in price once mj came out as mj works on two pathways. That podcast talked about an imminent drug that works on three pathways. And if mj continues to work for me, would there be any need for me to upgrade?

I’m thinking similarly - if you’re at or near target, why upgrade to a new drug. Though if lilly make both of them , maybe they won’t price competitively.

SmallTreeDeepRoots · 10/06/2026 18:38

Lilly doesn’t control retail pricing- that’s why there are price comparison websites between different pharmacies. And as patents expire we will have generic versions which will be cheaper. And the latest version will always have a more premium price, like with anything. The market will have a natural ceiling price, and the easiest way to demonstrate premium pricing is to reduce the price of the standard option. And tablets are cheaper to produce and store. So I’m hopeful. If prices don’t reduce, I will find a way as this is pretty life changing stuff for me atm!

taratill · 11/06/2026 08:53

Yes same, @SmallTreeDeepRoots , life changing.

I guess it's an adjustment to think it's much much more long term than I'd initially thought.

Snoringdogsfarting · 11/06/2026 18:44

How long does everyone else have suppression for after injecting? I went up to 5 a couple of weeks ago after a disastrous attempt before so I went back to 3.75, but ok on 5 now - no adverse reaction. However by day 4 I’m absolutely starving! I’m not eating like I used to before starting MJ even on my now starving days, but I’m not sure what to do. This is my 13th week and I’ve lost 35lbs but that’s since week 11 and now not losing because I’m only properly “dieting” for 4 days a week 🤦🏽‍♀️ 🤷🏼‍♀️

SmallTreeDeepRoots · 11/06/2026 20:36

I only got significant suppression the first couple of doses. But I’m finding it easier to make good choices and to stop before my plate is cleared. I’m not sure how sustainable a lack of appetite would be for me.

MoneyJo · 11/06/2026 20:37

That's how I feel @SmallTreeDeepRoots . I think I could get more suppression if I went up but I don't find it hard to resist temptation on my current dose so that seems good.

taratill · 11/06/2026 22:14

@Snoringdogsfarting 35lbs is an amazing loss!

Like @SmallTreeDeepRoots & @MoneyJo I'm not really feeling much suppression now, I'm still on 3.75, but the scale is going in the right direction and I feel full much quicker than I did without the jabs.

I think I'm going to take the advice of others and stick with the current dose for as long as the scale is going down.

MoneyJo · 11/06/2026 23:01

It's like we are learning a new life skill, isn't it @taratill ? I jab tomorrow but this evening I was pleased to find I couldn't finish my dinner because I was too full, and I had given myself a smaller portion than I would have had in the past. I never used to stop eating until my plate was clean.

Beehivebabe · 12/06/2026 07:37

@Snoringdogsfarting. Well done on your loss! I get some suppression but also get hungry at times so I feel like I’m putting in the work too which has to help longer term. I do get full quicker every day so that’s a positive. I still have the odd takeaway but I eat less! @MoneyJo I empathise with the clean plate!!

So today I’ve lost 1lb which is my 3 stone off!! I’m now 16st 13 so in the next stone bracket which feels amazing :) weight loss has slowed down but still working so I’m staying on 5mg for now.

Hope everyone else is doing ok. Where is this heatwave we were promised?! I have socks and a cardi on lol

MoneyJo · 12/06/2026 07:38

Well done @Beehivebabe ! I hit that same weight last Friday and felt amazing. About to weigh today and was hoping for another 2lb off but I've been so sedentary this week work wise that I think it might just be 1lb.

This is me atm! I jabbed on Monday, woken up starving this morning!
Lost 1lb last week, stayed the same today. (Weigh in day)
I have a full 5ml pen in the fridge but feel like maybe I should have gone up 7.
But saying that I have done not a step of exercise this week, work has been a nightmare.
I need a reset I think, will make sure I track my calories this week and get my ass in the gym and if I stay stuck I’ll order a higher dose pen.

ShebaQueen · 12/06/2026 07:56

Well done @Beehivebabe that's amazing!
@Snoringdogsfarting I do feel suppression gradually wearing off as the week goes on, but I only jab every 10 days due to side effects - I have tried various combinations of doses and jab intervals and this is what works best for me, at least at the moment.
Like @SmallTreeDeepRoots, I am keen to still have an appetite (albeit a much smaller one!), but to feel in control of my eating. Following on from the really interesting conversation and video posted earlier in the thread, I anticipate that I will be on Mounjaro for life for maintenance once I get to my goal weight. One of my friends described it as a tool, not a crutch, and she has a point. I have been making much healthier food choices and I am exercising for the first time in years and I'm trying to think of Mounjaro as just part of what I do, rather than the complete solution.
As an aside, I have started to experience some hair loss - anyone else? I am disappointed, as I had hoped to avoid it by focussing on protein, but I got a shock when I washed my hair.

Junmaro · 12/06/2026 08:12

My suppression is lower now, but echo that I am able to eat much more healthily and avoid rubbish without feeling deprived. I didn’t like that total appetite blockade at the beginning. It feels amazing to be to ‘decision make’ about eating rather than the Neanderthal voracious eating of before.

I am losing slower than most, about a kilo every 3 weeks. But i am still on a very low dose due to the side effects of the first week. Am approaching 13 stone now, down from a starting weight of 15.

Annex · 12/06/2026 08:35

This was my first week having gone up to 7.5 and I haven't lost anything - I have lost 12kg since starting mid March and have lost every week, finding it hard not to be demoralised as I have stuck to eating well and exercising and thought the higher dose would be worth it - maybe not.

taratill · 12/06/2026 09:13

Morning all. This is an interesting article that suggests that not everyone will need to remain on WLI forever to maintain.

Article suggests, perhaps unsurprisingly, that it depends on exercise and habits formed while using WLI and other medical issues which might cause some people to regain and not others.

taratill · 12/06/2026 09:38

@MoneyJo yes it is definitely like that. I'm actually pretty disgusted at how I was eating before. I think I was also in complete denial about how fat I'd become.

@Beehivebabe 3 stone off is AMAZING! Also breaking the next stone barrier is such a milestone. 5mg is definitely working for you!

@rockstarshoes agh that's frustrating but I think these little stalls happen. I think I might be having one this week, mostly due to time of the month hormones. Fingers crossed for next week.

@ShebaQueen , I like thinking of it as a tool not a crutch and thinking of it as just part of what you do. I haven't experienced hair loss. i think that can be normal with weight loss though?

@Junmaro I also started at 15 stone and am hovering just above 13 at the moment. Definitely not rapid weight loss here, I seem to have a couple of weeks where I lose quite effectively then I seem to stall a bit. Going to see what happens over the next couple of weeks before deciding on dosage.

@Annex that's frustrating but a 12 kg loss since March is awesome! Well done!
