@TragicMuse oh glad to know those waist clips work, I've seen them advertised but didn't know if they'd actually work.

I've been invited to a party I need a dress, I've no idea what style I want to try.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 18/03/2026 17:59

I didn’t know that those clips even existed! Thanks Tragic, they are now in my (ever growing) basket

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 18/03/2026 19:16

Do I need a new deep fat fryer?

Answer: yes. Just musing.
I mean, I've got one, but the basket doesn't fit properly.

Discourage me!

No, get an air fryer instead if you don't already have one - much more versatile and healthier.

PearlsTeapot · 18/03/2026 19:34

Get an air fryer instead! You don’t need a deep fat fryer.

Nooooo!
I had an air fryer.
It was incapable of making chips, so I sent it back to Amazon with a terse note.

We have a deep fat fryer it's used every day. I love tempura 🍤 and oh is arfid and only eats fried chicken so makes his own. I don't understand air fryers. We have a ninja 15 in 1 thing and I us it to cook ready meals and roasts that's all.

Hi everyone! Tomorrow is my 3rd jab of 5mg so I’m nearing the end of 6 weeks. I’m staying off the frequent scales and weighing once-a-pen I think. Today had a weird thing - I had a small bowl from Tortilla (itself a big step as I always used to get the large bowl and also a cheese/chorizo pot but the thought of that now is of an enormous meal) and a few spoons before the end, enjoying my lunch, it was like my brain suddenly flicked a switch of fullness, and I left the last bit.

I don’t think I’ve lost many kg (I lost about 5 with pen 1, so I must be about 7 down now at the very most) but I am noticing a difference in my size and am enjoying wearing clothes I haven’t worn for a long while. Eg today was a nice top. I also bought a pair of size 20 trousers from Tesco for future wear as they were much-reduced (my normal size is a 24) and they aren’t far off fitting already. On Mother’s Day when we went out my son took a silly video of me at the table and when he showed it I almost did a double-take as it was like he had captured my face at the very very best slimming angle ever - but actually that’s my face now.

Thank you!
I have a DS with ARFID and he loves my home-made chips.

Anyway, I have an update: I've figured out a way of making the new basket sit neatly in the fryer, so I am happy again.

Weigh in and jab day

SW 140kg BMI 54.7
CW 93.0kg BMI 36.3
GW 63kg BMI 24.6

14 stone 9lbs in old money. A loss this week after a small plateau. I have asked my surgery to put my dosage up to 15mg.

My first go on Vinted and I have bought 3 pairs of shorts - very pleased. We are on holiday at the end of June but didnt want to buy a load of clothes which hopefully wont fit soon.

GnomeDePlume · 19/03/2026 07:32

@TragicMuse thank you for that link to the waist cinchers. I have made a couple of pairs of trousers but think they may have come up a bit big.

MCR24 · 19/03/2026 08:22

@GnomeDePlume glad your plateau had been broken!

Weigh in day today lost 0.9kg / 1 lb and 15.7 oz, I was so close to my next target which was to have less than a stone to lose, hopefully next week! I do weigh less than my husband now for the first time ever.

SW: 142.8kg / 22 stone, 6 lb and 13.1 oz
CW: 66.4kg / 10 stone, 6 lb and 6.2 oz
Total loss: 76.4kg / 12 stone, 0 lb and 6.9 oz
BMI: 50.8 now 23.6
To get to mid healthy BMi: 6.4kg / 1 stone, 0 lb and 1.8 oz

Billybingbong · 19/03/2026 08:54

Another thanks to @TragicMuse for the waist cinchers. I never knew such a thing existed, but I think they will be so useful. I'm going to try them with a couple of my favourite work dresses, see if I can get a bit longer out of them. I know it's a nice problem to have, but I seem to be replacing my wardrobe every couple of months at the moment. Thank God for Vinted, but even that's starting to cost me a fortune. I really need to learn to sew!

@GnomeDePlume well done on breaking your plateau. Its lovely to see the scales moving again isnt it.

@Theringcycle I've been like that from almost day 1. I can literally be mid mouthful, and suddenly can't eat a morsel more. It's such a strange feeling, but you will get used to it. It sounds like youre doing amazing, and you'll soon me in those size 20 trousers.

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne I'm sure I can't be the only one who is now craving home made deep fried chips. Thanks for that 🤣🤣

@MCR24 wow, bloody amazing. I was almost same starting weight as you, and am starting to believe I can get to where you are in the next few months. You are an inspiration

GnomeDePlume · 19/03/2026 08:57

@MCR24 those are amazing results!

Weighing less than my DH is one of my goals. Still got about 13kg to lose to get there. So well done!

TragicMuse · 19/03/2026 09:04

I’m Glad the waist cinchers are such a success! I have some lovely trousers and want to extend the life so they’re going to feature heavily in my wardrobe I think!

I’m definitely now lighter than my husband but he’s very tall - long bones (as well as the well-fed-husband pot, of course!).

I’m wearing my size 12 dress. I made a new drawstring for it - to be prettier and in slightly thinner fabric so less bulky. It’s such a lovely wear. I have a fancy to go to John Lewis and try on some 12 and 14 clothes and see what happens…I’m smaller than a JL or Sainsbury 16 in trousers!

MCR24 · 19/03/2026 09:41

@Billybingbong awww thanks! I'm sure you'll get there too, there has been some disheartening moments along the way but as long as there was a downward trend I've managed to pull myself through. My estimated target date in my app now says May but I try to ignore that it keeps stretching out! I'd like to get to target before July just so I can say it took less than 2 years!

@GnomeDePlume thank you, I don't think my brain has caught up yet. I do think sometimes when I see myself in a reflection I look different 😂

@TragicMuse my husband is a similar height so technically we should be similar weights, he's put a little bit on so I'll enjoy being a bit lighter whilst I can as his will soon come back off again!

GnomeDePlume · 19/03/2026 10:02

@Billybingbong unfortunately sewing only really works as a saving if you apply 'Sewing Room Economics' rules where anything used from your fabric stash or pattern collection is 'free'.

Following these rules I have made two free pairs of trousers.

To balance out the world economy I have bought patterns and fabric for outfits for soon to be here DGCs.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 19/03/2026 10:41

Well done @Theringcycle that's a great update.

OP posts:
TragicMuse · 19/03/2026 10:52

You’re right @GnomeDePlume - from stash = free! But I don’t always have what I want in my stash!

I’m in a bit of a sewing holding pattern. Having emptied my wardrobe of all the clothes that don’t fit, I have masses of my own makes which will be useless. I suppose I could re-make them. And for some I will. But I also don’t know if they’re still my style.

As with buying clothes, some of them I made because the pattern was available in my size. And maybe that’s not what I want for myself now?

My green linen barrel trousers will be recut. The colour is wonderful and after 2 years the linen has softened beautifully. AND my top-stitching was so good! And the fabric was a present from my sister, expensive and lovely. I simply don’t want to lose those or charity shop them.

But for some things I will have to resign myself to getting rid of them.

And I don’t know if charity shops will even be interested in them, or able to sell something with no size or washing instructions labels.

This is what keeps running through my mind at the moment!

Apologies for the sewing derail!!

Billybingbong · 19/03/2026 11:46

@GnomeDePlume oh I'm under no illusions, I don't think I'd ever have the ability or the funding to be able to make my own clothes from scratch. My mum is a whizz with a machine, but that wizardry seems to have bypassed me, I'm useless. But I do quite like the idea of being able to alter my clothes when they get too big, instead of having to ask my mum every time. She's in her 80's now, and I feel she's getting fed up of me asking

MCR24 · 19/03/2026 11:54

I'm currently looking for dresses for a party in summer, they are all sleeveless or very short sleeve. My best option at this point would be a long sleeve dress and making adjustments to sleeve length, I don't know if there's more to it than just chopping and hemming 😂

PearlsTeapot · 19/03/2026 12:19

I’m another that would love to learn to sew. Nothing seems to fit me quite right.

Theringcycle · 19/03/2026 12:26

I learnt to sew about 10 years ago - bit of help from my mum about how to thread the needles and then lots of internet - because I couldn’t find what i wanted in the shops (heavy jersey shift dresses for work) and I had a lovely time making the same couple of patterns over and over. I found it so liberating size-wise as yes I had to add an additional allowance over the size of the patterns but everything fitted perfectly and there was of course no numbers on any labels. I haven’t sewn much since having children (I rapidly realised I wasn’t the kind of person who made kids clothes that were rapidly outgrown) but I still have a stash which, as you’ve reminded me, is technically free clothes following sewing room roles.
