A supportive, idea-sharing thread for those with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. We're a mixture of newbies, nearly theres, there and maintaining and we know what it's like to have what can seem like a mountain to climb - but we also know we can do it!

Nothing is off topic except referral codes 😊

@WeAllHaveWings I broke the outer bone in my foot in a similarly pointless way some years ago. It took a long time to heal. Still painful sometimes tbh. Do what you can to get the blood flow going down there because there often isn’t much in that part of foot, which is apparently why healing is slow. Also up your calcium intake. Once the bone was healing I did foot strengthening exercises which have helped a lot. You probably know all this, but just in case not.

alltablenochairs · 03/02/2026 23:45

@WeAllHaveWings I have foot drop but for very different reasons to you (autoimmune stuff). You can get various foot drop devices on Amazon- some of them are pretty discreet. Back when I used to walk I also found walking boots to be more supportive. I havent walked in Glasgow but I have rolled around a few times. You're 100% right about the dodgy pavements!

@DeadbeatYoda Royal Mail isnt that reliable where I am so I tend to go for the providers that offer delivery by DPD and give the best discounts (I'm on 15mg). I've had a few providers flat out turn me down for having health 'ishoos' but Simple Online Pharmacy haven't (yet) said no to me.

After what seems like the longest period ever where I either haven't lost weight or lost next to nothing I've finally started losing again. I'm coming tantalisingly close to having an 'overweight' BMI. And even closer still to the lightest I have ever been.

DeadbeatYoda · 04/02/2026 11:06

@hoobledooble bravo! That’s life changing. You should be so proud of yourself.

DeadbeatYoda · 04/02/2026 11:08

@alltablenochairsthanks, I really appreciate the tips.

DeadbeatYoda · 04/02/2026 11:12

@TheSlimmingPumpkin okay, thanks, stashing is cunning! I need to get my head round the best ways to do this without throwing money away unnecessarily.

MooBaggage · 05/02/2026 10:28

Am having a lovely mini whoosh at the moment, following coming back from holiday and getting straight back on track with lots of water, protein and hand weights - I've lost 3lbs this week! I think this will be mainly water retention and reduction of carbs and salt (no crisps and pizza!).

13.1.25 SW 20st 3lb BMI 43
5.2.26 CW 13st 8lbs BMI 28.9

Am v excited to be putting distance now away from BMI over 30 😃

I am massively relieved that I've been able to get straight back on track - this is such a deviation from past behaviour, where I'd have just thought fuck it and carried on with the crisps and Sangria...

MJ is a bloody wonder drug - the control it has given me is still messing with my mind, but in a good way!

Onwards and downwards 😀

@MooBaggage have you donated me your wooshed lbs? I seem to have gained 3 overnight :-(

MooBaggage · 05/02/2026 14:02

@AnneinEdinburgh oh no! Apologies for flinging them your way - I didn't mean to 😁

No doubt at least one of them will be winging its way back to me at some point 🙄

Double brownie points for me today though - I've just been for a swim...! First time since November at the health club I joined in September. Ahem. I only got a 6 month membership, so really ought to make some use of it before it expires!

@WeAllHaveWings If it makes you feel any better, I broke mine when my foot turned as it slid sideways off a Fitflop! I think I may have said before that I paid for private physio as a friend who was a nurse in the fracture clinic told me not to wait for the NHS and I still remember my brain being totally discombobulated when it told my foot to go onto tiptoes and it refused!

@MooBaggage well done on getting back onto things. I need to get back into my groove as I keep making excuses (says the woman who has just been out for lunch!)

YellowStockings · 06/02/2026 07:45

A little milestone today - I’ve lost 6.5 kilos, which is just over a stone! Started on the 3rd January, which feels amazing really. I know weight loss is always faster at first but I’m chuffed. I’ve also lost over 5% of my initial starting weight.

ShrankLastWinter · 06/02/2026 07:51

Nice @YellowStockings! Do you feel better? I wasn’t quite as quick at first but I remember even the first few kilos coming off making me feel just that bit lighter and healthier.

YellowStockings · 06/02/2026 08:15

@ShrankLastWinter yes! I feel really good. I’m also eating super healthy food & drinking loads of water which is surely helping, and my face looks so much less ‘puffy’. It was getting to the point where in photos I had a visibly fat face, if that makes sense? I didn’t recognise myself! Whereas now my face is starting to look like me again.

GiveMeWordGames · 06/02/2026 12:19

Well done on storming your first month @YellowStockings ! And Hurrah for post holiday whoosh, @MooBaggage

I was still at 11st 9 this morning, which is fine after a week of travel and sandwich-heavy corporate catering and probably not drinking enough water.

I really do miss having an arse though. Train seats are just not cushioned these days (I'm looking at you, Avanti West Coast - after 3.5 hours each way in the space of two days, to and from Cumbria 😫)

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 06/02/2026 15:13

After years of underused memberships for David Lloyd and Bannatyne I have said no more. I have wasted £1000s joining, going then not going and cancelling memberships.

This year I am taking a different approach and joined a local running club and taken out a monthly swim membership at the local leisure centre. So far I have been four times over the past two weeks and I am amazed at how few people are in the swimming lanes, there is plenty of hot water, showers all work and the place is clean. In my last David Lloyd the pool was nowhere near as big, the lanes got ‘crowded’ in comparison, and some of the showers worked and some didn’t.

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 06/02/2026 15:19

I looked at photos from pre Nov 24 @YellowStockings and I can now see how fat I was from just my face. It’s now wonder now I am almost 6 stone down that the Face ID sometimes needs a couple of attempts. There are photos that I look at and think is that really me.

Well done @YellowStockings on losing the first stone. May it be the first of many 💪🏻

YellowStockings · 06/02/2026 15:48

Thanks so much for the lovely words of encouragement! Still pinching myself that it's been so straightforward so far (and wondering why I didn't do this sooner...). I guess it's such a mindset shift to finally decide something needs to change.

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 06/02/2026 16:51

Definitely not the only one thinking I wish I started this sooner. I spent months stalking the WLI threads thinking they are not all dying or suffering from horrendous side effects. I was going to start in July then August then September but there were so many negative stories. It took me until November 24 to take the first jab.

Bunnyjo · 07/02/2026 10:34

Oooh, @GiveMeWordGames, are you a fellow Cumbrian?

And yes, @YellowStockings, I totally relate on the not starting sooner thoughts, especially given the price increases. However, better late than never! I'm currently with Bolt (their new user discount is good, but the price afterwards is much of a muchness with other providers), but will look at Pharmulous, as mentioned by @TheSlimmingPumpkin, as that's a provider I've not encountered before.

Get well soon and rest up, @WeAllHaveWings, my DH suffered an avulsion fracture a few years ago. He seems to slap that foot down a little differently than the other when walking now (you can hear the difference), and I now wonder if it's related to that fracture.

SW: 15st 5.5lb
CW: 11st 10.5lb
Loss: 51lb
Current BMI: 29.15 - I know it rounds to 29.2, but 29.15 sounds better 😂
Target Weight 1: 12st 1lb (overweight BMI) - Achieved!
Target Weight 2: 10st 1lb (healthy BMI)
Final Target Weight: 9st something (still don't know what the something is yet...)

Had set myself the target of being 11st 7lb by the end of Feb and 11st 5.5lb by the middle of March, but am now going to see if I can lose that 5lb between now and the end of Feb.

GiveMeWordGames · 07/02/2026 12:21

Ooh, no, sorry @Bunnyjo - other way around. I'm a southerner travelling to Cumbria for work stuff. I'm back there in July and I want to try and make a bit of a road trip around it with DH as it's such a bloody long way and a lovely bit of the country. Early Feb didn't seem the optimum time to do that.😁 🌧 And you're doing brilliantly against your targets - well done!

Bunnyjo · 08/02/2026 09:32

Haha, @GiveMeWordGames, the weather is rather wet and windy right now. Mind, I’m not sure it’s much better in summer sometimes 😜

and thank you ☺️

Goingincirclesstill · 08/02/2026 14:08

Ummm....just achieved something bonkers and that never dreamed would happen .....

Started September 2024 at a weight of 18stone 7lb - BMI of 45.9 and Obese 3

This morning weighed at
8stone 6.5lb - BMI of 21.1 and well into the lower section of normal

10 whole stone gone!! Now just got to keep it gone which may be harder :( For anyone starting, or struggling...keep going! Was size 24, probably should have been 26 in bottoms but now size 10....keep catching glances of myself and not recognising myself... especially when watched something back on the doorbell camera!

UnimaginableWindBird · 08/02/2026 14:29

Wow! That's so very impressive! Congratulations!!!!!!!

WeAllHaveWings · 08/02/2026 15:08

Thanks for all you posts about my poor foot 💗

@ShrankLastWinter I have upped my calcium (advantage of increasing calories on maintenance I have more cheese in there!) and also taking a supplement. The physio has given me exercises to do, the don't seem to do much as my foot only respond as much as it wants to. Mine isn't painful as such, but I notice it is stiff/not right and I can't do things like lean on it when getting up/down from the floor because it is not flexible.

@alltablenochairs I ordered a foot brace last week, but it doesn't fit in my current trainers so trying to find lace up trainers I like it will fit in, not had a chance to get out this weekend as working and the pair I ordered online need to go back as too narrow, especially on problem foot which shows there is still some swelling there.

@QueenOfHiraeth I keep going between thinking about private, or if it will be a waste of time because it just needs time to heal. Will maybe contact work health plan next week and see if they can offer anything. I can go tip toes and move side to side okay-ish, just a bit stiff. It is the upwards flex that is not responding much.

@Bunnyjo that is exactly it, I was with the physio striding down the hospital corridors last week asking if they could hear it. The foot just doesn't land properly, slaps down noisily and the impact shudders up my leg so I end up with an achy, fatigued knee or hip depending on how I try to compensate for it. I need to constantly be paying attention, take shorter strides, and walk slower. If I don't, I sometimes catch my toes (which is why I fell).

Looking back over last week there has been some great losses and milestones, well done all! 👏

I seem to be floating between 11st 9lb and 11st 11lbs which is exactly where I want to be for now. I liked the way I was eating while still on weight loss, so just tweaking things slightly to increase calories such as sometimes having a wrap with my lunchtime protein/salad, drinking kefir daily, enjoying an occasional curry from the takeaway instead of a kebab etc all while staying generally aware (not tracking in any app, but will do if I weigh lower/higher than I want to).

Try walking trainers. I find they were roomier than standard trainers and fitted foot braces better.

Goingincirclesstill · 08/02/2026 18:16

@WeAllHaveWings
Re your foot brace, we generally advise people at work to get a pair of trainers half a size bigger than normal to allow room
