Mounjaro/Wegovy with >5 stone/30kg to lose - thread 12!

MooBaggage · 29/01/2026 15:40

A supportive, idea-sharing thread for those with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. We're a mixture of newbies, nearly theres, there and maintaining and we know what it's like to have what can seem like a mountain to climb - but we also know we can do it!

Nothing is off topic except referral codes 😊

I meant to say, I had to take a moment last night - I've assigned one of my favourite jumpers to the next charity shop bag pile. It's a Vinted one from when I'd lost a couple of stone last year and I was so pleased I needed it. I tried it on last night and am totally lost in it. Checked the size and it's a 20 - 22, which I was so proud of being able to fit in to, having started out at a 24 - 26. But I'm now a size 16 and it's just too big. My head was completely mashed for a few minutes last night....

Life in my body does seem very weird at the moment!

My mini stall has broken, thankfully:

13.1.25 SW 20st 3lbs BMI 43
25.2.26 CW 13st 7lbs BMI 28.6

2 stone to go😊

Thanks for the insights. I will ask a friend. I’ve got the perfect person in mind. Except that she is obese and scared of MJ. She may think I’m rubbing her nose in it, of course I’m not, she loves clothes and knows what suits people. Oh dear, finding it so hard to make decisions, overthinking everything.
Kiwi bingo is so real. Dh got me the green hairy ones by accident this week. I reluctantly cut one this morning because needsmust. Felt hard as a rock but it was juicy and pleasantly tangy. Hoping to experience the labour of my fruits shortly. Then off to Lidl for more!

GiveMeWordGames · 25/02/2026 09:51

Hurrah for movement, @MooBaggage !

@Zebracat I know entirely what you mean. Initially I was doing quite well sending things off the charity shop or chucking them but I now realise the things I was getting rid at first of were either a) things I never really liked and had barely worn or b) somewhat knackered and probably should have been binned off a while ago regardless of size!

I've really struggled to get rid of things I used to like. I've put a bunch of too big work trousers up in the loft, and have a pile of a few more things to go up there. But that is it and I HAVE to go back to getting rid of stuff. Have to! Yup. 100%. 😐

I am bumbling around 11st 7 at the moment. It's annoying. Just 3lbs to go COME ON! 💪

GiveMeWordGames · 25/02/2026 11:17

That post was brought to you by the word "things". 😶

MooBaggage · 25/02/2026 11:29

@GiveMeWordGames 😁

BTW has anyone else noticed that they are more focused/can concentrate better now they are on MJ? I have got my finances in order for the first time in my adult life over the past year - am celebrating today (inside my head!) because it's pay day tomorrow and I am not overdrawn for the first time in a trillion years so will start next month in the actual black!

I seem to be able to control more aspects of my life than 'just' eating and drinking. I feel more in control of life in general (although don't get me wrong, my life is still a car crash a lot of the time 🙄) and I can limit my spending, which hasn't seemed possible before this year. I have got a plan for paying off various debts I have and it's all coming together (slowly!).

Am wondering if it's just coincidence rather than the Mounjaro, or if it does have an impact on people like me that are likely/diagnosed ADHD or generally impulsive, in helping with self-control? I suppose because in this group we are on it for a long time, given the amount of weight we are losing, we maybe see the impact over a longer period of time?

GiveMeWordGames · 25/02/2026 11:49

@MooBaggage One of the only people who I know on it IRL is (adult diagnosed) ADHD and has definitely said it's had a positive impact on her symptoms, and she was already on meds before she started MJ.

I'm not ADHD to start with but I would say there's a definite improved calmness to my mind - I get less worked up by things in general. On the downside, I think it's dinged my creativity a bit. One aspect of the work I do involves writing/creating/coming up with ideas and I'm not sure I'm as buzzy in that way. It's all fascinating.

AnneinEdinburgh · 25/02/2026 11:54

For me I am feeling so much better all round @MooBaggage that I don't know whether MJ itself makes me feel better, or a lack of food noise, greater self confidence and a hugely improved self image (of course provided by MJ) makes the difference or both. My finances are actually in the red for the first time in ages, but that is because I have started buying things to sell on Vinted (plus the things from Vinted that are actually for me - must stop buying Doc Martens for both but they are so pretty, sparkly, funky or wild ) plus having a teenager who decided he had enough money to buy himself a car until he didn't if you know what I mean. Anyway, my brain fog has lifted, I am doing things for me like sewing clothes, doing a fashion and textiles evening class and planning to carry on and do an HND/degree when I had paid off my mortgage and can afford it, going to aquafit and swimming, sorting out my pit of a house that I have lived in for 18 years but somehow ended up as unloved as my poor flabby body was. I am also going to evict all remaining belongings from my horrible controlling ex and just have lovely or useful things for me and my son. MJ has been the catalyst for all of that, but can't say which is chicken and which the egg.

xx

Zebracat · 25/02/2026 12:09

Yes. I’m definitely more organised and systematic, better able to hold my tongue and swerve other peoples dramas. Spending too much money on clothes though. I spend my time gardening and dog walking, really don’t need new clothes for that. But I am going to Scandinavia in March and do actually need smarter warm and waterproof coat and shoes. But not 2 coats neither of which is quite right. So yes, much more organised, except about clothes.

Zebracat · 25/02/2026 12:12

But my house is clean and tidy. But that’s also because my 2 youngest left home and 2 of our 3 pets died.

StatisticalStitches · 25/02/2026 21:47

First week weigh in this morning, lost 5.7lbs/2.6kg. Done 2nd jab tonight.

I was warned about my contraceptive pill not working properly but hadn't considered it would trigger a bleed, so that's an extra side effect for this week. For those on the mini pill, did it settle down after a few weeks?

I woke with a headache today, so have focused on drinking more water today. Hoping the 2nd week is kind to me.

Liking the idea of a charity pile when clothes become too big.

MooBaggage · 25/02/2026 22:12

@StatisticalStitches well done! I'm post-menopausal, but did have a couple of random small period-type bleeds - got them checked out etc and all is good.

I also get almost nightly headaches - it's my most consistent and annoying side effect. I drink a minimum of 2 x litres of water a day - usually 3 - but still get them. I'm used to it now and tend to keep paracetamol by the bed with water, as they tend to come on at about 3am. Hopefully you won't experience the same!

OP posts:
AnneinEdinburgh · 26/02/2026 03:09

Funny you should mention 3am. I am wide awake and thirsty with a headache having been to the loo twice already sigh and it's 3am

MooBaggage · 26/02/2026 04:59

Yep - 3am and just now for me - have given up and made a coffee and got some paracetamol! I'm lucky in that I'm WFH today, with no meetings until 1pm, so with a bit of luck I'll get back to sleep in a bit and then work later hours!

Fire alarm has been going off for 2 hours (no fire) at pub next door which doesn't help. Still we now have 4 firemen outside trying to get in. However we are having a carbon emergency, one menopausal grumpy hag (me) and 2 ravenous teens and one bagel between us because I didn't buy bread so I wouldn't eat it. This would have counted as an emergency but I have just toasted it and solemnly divided it by 3 😁

AnneinEdinburgh · 26/02/2026 05:08

And that should be carb nor carbon, can't solve that either!

MooBaggage · 26/02/2026 09:18

@AnneinEdinburgh Carb emergencies are the worst...!!

Another lb off for me this morning - a mini whoosh (which we all know means I will now have a stall of at least 2 weeks and be in a Bad Mood until mid-March 😬)

Me too @MooBaggage

However I have finally reached the 6stone weight loss mark. 4lbs to go for a BMI of 24.9.

MooBaggage · 26/02/2026 09:31

@TheSlimmingPumpkin Aaaarrrggghhh...!!! So very nearly there! Am v excited for you - loving this living vicariously as people get to the magical land of BMI 24.9 😍 Have you got any kind of celebration planned?!

I've told DP I want to go out for a meal when I hit 100lbs lost - in 5lbs time now 😁 Then will wait until I hit BMI 24.9 - in Sept/Oct, hopefully!

Eughhhh. I have the sulphur burps. And frustratingly ive figured out the culprit! I added cauliflower to a stir fry last night - thought id use it up and add some more veg in - never a bad thing right!? WRONG!

StatisticalStitches · 26/02/2026 22:01

I love the idea of celebrating 24.9 BMI. I also didn't sleep well last night. Wondering if all this extra water has thrown my salt balance out, as I kept waking with leg cramps. Has anyone else had this as a side effect? I gave up at 6.30am even though my alarm doesn't usually go off till 8am!

Oh, I hate cramps! I've not had that specifically with MJ, no, but as a bit of a magnesium bore I'm going to ask if you're taking a supplement of that. Apologies if you've already said you are back in the thread somewhere.

It might help, anyway, if you're not yet.

Sooooo close @TheSlimmingPumpkin ! You'll be there in no time. I think that was my favourite milestone.

StatisticalStitches · 26/02/2026 23:10

@GiveMeWordGames no, I'm not taking a magnesium supplement. Only joined the thread recently, did my 2nd jab yesterday. I have to get everything (supplements included) checked out by my medical team as I'm rather complex when it comes to health stuff. I'll mention it to my specialist nurse to see if I can add it in. If I jump up and down I rattle with the amount of pills and injections I take each week 😆 at least it meant I wasn't needle phobic for starting MJ.

I got this in the beginning. Turns out it was a lack of calcium in my diet that did it for me. Since then I have kept a closer eye on things and it hasn't returned unless it's a positioning thing. I know what causes it then and it's easily dealt with.

Other things that help me are sleeping with a knee break pillow under my knees if I am sleeping on my back (it looks like a small triangle) or sleeping with a pillow between my knees if I am sleeping on my side. You said you have complex health issues- I hope you dont mind me asking but do you have physio input? If you do, ask them to show you how to do a calf stretch. DH does a mean calf stretch for me and it's the most satisfying thing ever. Gets rid of cramps really quickly if done well.
Something else that helps me a lot is a proper deep tissue massage. Definitely not a gentle, relaxing one- this hurts. The effect the next day is great though. Again, if you have health issues check with your team first.

alltablenochairs · 26/02/2026 23:47

Kiwi roulette again! I thought I was onto a winner buying a box of yellow ones from Lidl. For those not in the know, yellow kiwis are a lot sweeter and have a much more subtle flavour. Chopped into one and it was yellow. Was it sweet? Was it hell. I'm going back to the expensive Sainsbury's ones tomorrow.

AnneinEdinburgh · 27/02/2026 03:11

I got a lot of leg cramps in bursts and then not fir a while. It is now 3am, the dreaded cursed mj hour of wakening. @MooBaggage I know you do 3am, anyone else?
