BG2015 · 26/12/2025 11:58

Hi, my first WG pen is in the fridge ready to start on 1st January.

Im 56 (57 in Feb) post menopausal and cancer survivor in remission 5 years nearly. still taking cancer prevention medication that I believe that is hindering my weight loss. I just can't seem to lose it no matter how much I try. It took me 5 months to lose 10lb earlier on in the year.

Im 5' 8" so carry my extra weight well.
CW 13stone
TW 11 stone

Whose joining me on this weight loss journey?

Height 5'6
So far so good, don't really feel much different but definitely less cravings and finding it easy to stick to healthy eating plan so far but know it's early days ..

That’s seems a really well balanced day @goldylock - I’ll do better tomorrow I hope

@BooptotheFloof

Interestingly, this is what I would usually eat in a day, maybe I'd have finished off the wrap.

But then by evening, or after a match, I'd reach for the family sized bag of crisps, or doritos. I have a crisp and doritos problem...I have arrived home from shopping not remembering buying them.

I cannot seem to cut them out (believe me, as someone who is an ex smoker, ex nail biter etc). This food attachment to crisps causes such a food noise for me. And all I know is for the last 2 days, the noise is gone.

I have had lf satin crunch (82 cals) as am so used to eating crisps, I was scared I'd break and "need" them. But, who knows, in a couple weeks, maybe that habit will die off too.

We are all finding our feet. But, I'd hope for you (if you're not nauseous) that you'd eat a bit more.

As you said, try again tomo 😊 x

I noticed you said you had mcdonalds the day before you jabbed
You are supposed to eat clean before injecting so all that food will come out in the toilet I'm afraid
I made the same mistake with bacon the first time I injected, I honestly didn't think I'd stop pooing 🙈 get yourself some pepto bismol

I know! Also after a day of feeling not too bad I just tried a coffee and immediately regretted it…

I guess it’s a bit trial and error and I had made some errors.

on the food front I had a couple of plain biscuits and a bit of cheese and I didn’t feel sick. So that is something. I am hoping I can eat a bit more tomorrow as it will be three days post first jab. I still don’t know if this is appetite suppression or just the initial side effects - am assuming side effects as the 2.5 dose is said not to be enough to actually suppress. Feeling stressed though as I really want to change my habits and that means eating healthy small portions

Whatstfpoint · 04/01/2026 21:34

I wouldn't get worked up about it. I think slim people have days when they eat v little and more others. It just seems very low to us because of what we are used to. Or when you are ill you might also not eat much. You aren't planning on doing this all the time.

In my head it is still 'how many calories am I allowed', which i know is back to front.

BooptotheFloof · 04/01/2026 17:02

Ah we used to have one but the gas cartridges are expensive and faffy!

I need to just stop being a child a drink palin water! 😂

Sparkling water is 39p for 2L and tastes OK. I've switched to that with some squash to try to wean myself off my Diet Coke habit!

Tammy214 · 05/01/2026 08:24

I sometimes get board of plain water so have sparkling or i have a tiny bit of squash to take the edge of the water

Springflowers3 · 05/01/2026 08:57

I am much thirstier than usual so I’m drinking a lot more water to quench my thirst.

ChilledProsecco · 05/01/2026 09:18

I finally got my message to upload a video with me on the scales but unfortunately I’m at work so can’t do anything until I get home.

so it will be later in the week before I can even get started…

intentionals · 05/01/2026 09:21

Digestive issues persist.

not sure if I am hungry or not. Feel like I might be but it feels a bit more “in the background”.

sorry to spam the thread with my issues - wondering if it might be helpful to other new starters.

Justbloodylovecrisps · 05/01/2026 09:41

I took my first jab yesterday lunch time. Had a coffee this morning & now I feel sick, so not sure I’m going to do that again on an empty stomach!

KeepPloddingOn4Ever · 05/01/2026 09:47

Just has my first jab! I ate some peanut butter on toast first. I have also started at slimming world in the hope that I can develop a healthy diet for when I stop using MJ. I am going to have a good read of the book and some some high protein meals, but its difficult when I don't know how much appetite I will have. I am not planning to tell anyone I am on MJ (except my DH) and hopefully if I lose weight I can attribute it to SW!

BG2015 · 05/01/2026 09:50

Took my first jab on Jan 1st and today is the first day I actually feel normal. Had my porridge, blueberries and honey at 7 am and would normally be thinking of toast or a biscuit about now but..... nothing!

Hang in there, I think it takes a while to get working. Plus a sneaky weigh in is showing 4lb loss.

I have decided to avoid coffee as it definitely didn’t work well for my stomach

I felt like that yesterday morning (day 2) and a lot of my 'food noise' has been replaced with wondering if I should eat or not so I'm still thinking about food all day!

I've woken this morning with sulphur burps so I'll be drinking ginger tea today and eating small but frequent meals to see if that helps.

blackandwhitefluffycat · 05/01/2026 11:18

I’m not thinking about food other than when I read about it! But even then it’s not making me crave it.

I’ve always had ok willpower but have always had hunger pangs that make me think about food. These have gone. My DH said it’s the same for him.

Starting my patches today. Weight gain is listed as a side effect, which surprises me as they’re normally quick to say it’s due to menopause and not the medication (definitely not in my experience). Reading another thread reminded me that my hormones are a bit weird - I was one of those who could not lose weight while breastfeeding, but it dropped off as soon as I stopped (with no change in diet or exercise). I hope it’s no worse than with my current meds.

I’ve weighed and I’ve lost 5lbs since 1st Jan! (I weighed the day before I started). I’d like to lose around 4 1/2 stone my from starting weight.

Whatstfpoint · 05/01/2026 12:34

I was going to take a box of chocolates to work today and I'm ashamed to say that I decided to keep it for myself at the last minute. I also did my usual walk to the free biscuits in the office.

Concernedcatmum · 05/01/2026 13:03

Today is day 3 for me (MJ) Not had too many side effects, a slight headache at times (think I need to up my water intake). Have found I’m less hungry (but definitely still feeling hungry at times) and also feeling full more quickly. Not sure if it’s entirely quietened the food noise, but have found it much easier to make healthy choices - eg today friend offered to buy me a chocolate croissant, and I kind of wanted to say yes more out of habit as would usually snack around that time, but found it so much easier to say no thanks, and then didn’t really think about it again. It’s like it’s given me the headspace to challenge long held food habits/emotional eating? Also really feel like I want to make healthy choices and that’s it’s much easier to than pre jab. So overall feeling hopeful! Interested to see if this wears off as the week goes on.

Blandpedant · 05/01/2026 14:27

This is exactly what it feels like for me, also three days in on MJ. There’s no urgency/craving to eat, so whilst I can still enjoy food, I can take the time to make healthier choices, say no, or have smaller portions without feeling hard done by (or like I immediately have to have something sweet after!).

its amazing really. If it already feels like this on the lowest dose I’m wondering if I need to go up? Or maybe it stops working so you have to increase the dose…

blackandwhitefluffycat · 05/01/2026 14:45

I think it varies from person to person. I’ve been reading threads from other months and some can’t even go up to 5 due to side effects. My DH is sticking at 5 as it’s still working for him.

I’ll stick at 2.5 until it stops working, I think.

@Blandpedant

Spot on.

I'm also finding that eating an apple or a carrot with my food is filling me up further (fiber maybe?).

I was always in wonderment at a friend of mine, who would eat as such, and she'd be full.

Whereas I'd eat that, and I'd be starving....I'd be embarrassed to go for more as I always just thought I was a hungry horse all the time. And I'd be upset with myself.

Turns out, it's my physiology 😭

Tammy214 · 05/01/2026 16:52

I think the reason why we are taking it is one of the biggest drivers, if you want the highest and continuous suppression most seem to be moving up when they cant get a full week from the current dose.
some are loving freedom to eat normally at times which i guess like the old cheat days.
I am currently not sure if i am going to move up or stick, its making me consider what my biggest reason for doing this is, is it to lose weight the quickest time frame or is it to lose weight but still be able to eat out and a few cheat days?

Octagoneaway · 05/01/2026 16:55

I am working really hard on not snacking and making good choices, but so far I’m not feeling much benefit after my first dose (Thursday). I’m down 2kg, but I think that’s willpower and a reduction in the bloating. Feeling stressed today, and I’m thinking about wine. But luckily I told myself it’s Dry January, so I’m resisting.

Looking forward to the second dose to see if it helps.

Lollywillowes · 05/01/2026 17:09

Joining. I'm on day two. I feel really nauseous and cold! Not sure what to eat because I am not clear what I fancy at all. I've had one smallish meal today. Headachey and finding it hard to concentrate.

Tempted not to take the second dose! Does it get better???

MrTiddlesTheCat · 05/01/2026 17:18

Can I join you. My dr has just prescribed mounjaro for me, which he says to start taking on Wednesday or Thursday (to combat weekend temptations). I'm very nervous about taking it, both the injections themselves and potential side effects. I think I'll get DH to administer the first one as I'm too scared.

I'm currently 129.4 kg (20.3 stone)

I don't have a target weight as I can't visualise ever being in a position to have one.

Where I live you can only get wli as part of a weight loss programme. I started this a year ago and was doing well on just following the diet plan, so didn't go for the injections. Unfortunately the wheels fell off when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I'm hoping that I just need a low dose to help me get back on track and that 2026 is my year for healing and health (as opposed to the shitshow that was 2025).

MJstarterbefore40 · 05/01/2026 17:47

Started today! Not sure what to expect but I'm weighing in at 16st 5lbs. Feel disgusting but hopeful!
