Well, some of us are new, some of us are nearly at our goal weight and the rest are still in the trenches.

Everyone is welcome here. This is a safe and supportive space for people with a lot of weight to lose.

Oh, and I usually buy the mini mince pies - this was a habit from when the kids were younger and that was a better size for them but now it's me who doesn't want a full size one!

TragicMuse · 06/12/2025 10:40

We’re at home and have my mum for Christmas so it should be relatively uncomplicated for me. But I know roughly that I will eat the things I want, just in smaller quantities.

@UsernameShmusername2024 hopefully no-one is scrutinising your plate, but you can always fall back on ‘after cooking it all I’ve lost my appetite’ - would that work?

UsernameShmusername2024 · 06/12/2025 10:46

@TragicMuse I don't actually think anyone will be taking any notice of my plate for Xmas dinner - we have 11 including 4 kids so it's all a bit chaotic. That wouldn't work anyway though as luckily my DP does the bulk of the cooking, I'm just the assistant! I never have loads of xmas dinner as I don't particularly enjoy a roast, the main difference will be that I probably won't have preceeded it with bacon sandwiches, croissants, chocolates, etc or at least not in the same volumes as usual.

Missingducks · 06/12/2025 10:59

My pens live in the silver foil bubble wrap in the salad drawer. I claim the sharps box is for dog injections. Dog doesn't have injections but ...

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 06/12/2025 11:00

I think I'll probably just be eating normal meals but without the snacks in between. Normally we graze on nibbles while opening presents between church and a late lunch, I can skip those quite happily by saying I'm trying to be healthier/not hungry. I'll have a bit of booze but not loads, and actually, if I do eat a bit more for a couple of days it's not the end of the world as I know I'll be able to get back on track much more easily than in the past.

mamabeeboo · 06/12/2025 11:07

I must say, the only person that ever realises and makes note of what you're eating /not eating is the host. But for the most part everyone else is too worried about their own plates!

Over the years, I have noticed how skinny people eat. And how they save themselves for the dinner and eat nothing all day, don't eat many snacks because they don't like the full feeling, leave lots on their plate etc.

EverybodysALebowski · 06/12/2025 11:33

Ugh, flu. Have been drinking water and tea like a madwoman to balance out all the, um, drainage from my head and nose. So now I feel all sloshy and am in the bathroom all the time, especially when I start coughing. Joy.

I did get a flu shot which makes me wonder how bad this would be if I hadn't. Apparently this year's strain is a monster.

Not bothering to weigh in until this is gone, obviously. Bah humbug.

Fffreeeeezing · 06/12/2025 11:51

Week 39 WI and we have reached some mini goals today!
3lb off this week bringing my total loss to 7st 2lbs - woo!

Would have been happy for just the 1lb loss but 3lb means I also hit 100lb loss (45kg), - double woo!

Next mini goals:

  1. under 40bmi - that is 19lb away
  2. be under 100kg, that's 39lb away, this feels a bit ambitious to get by my MJ anniversary in 13weeks but hey, I didn't expect 7st by Christmas and here we are.

I have zero worries about food at Christmas, I've never really like most of it other than turkey! In fact I remember someone asking me at work last January if I'd lost weight over Christmas. The massive irony being that I have had zero comments on the 7st loss, from anyone, at all. Well at least I don't have to field off awkward comments like some of you, every cloud!

@PearlTeapot I remember you mentioning that you allow yourself one calorie counting free day and I think I will do the same. (Maybe not regularly but when needed) I had a week awhile back when I was feeling hungry all the time. I let myself to have one day when I ate more and went close to 2000 cals. Still ended up losing weight that week and I felt better. I think my body just needed refuelling. The food choices were still good, I just ate more.

The next few weeks are going to be challenging for me, lots of social gatherings. First one last night. 2 course meal, 2 glasses of wine, glass of Baileys (this was my dessert) and one G&T. I can’t go through all day without eating and saving my calories for my dinner so yesterday again was a write off re calorie counting. I chose to enjoy the dinner and I’m back on track today. I keep telling myself that it’s a marathon, not a sprint and averages count.

I have lost 3.5st so far and I’m on 4.25mg at the moment. I would say my suppression is an average, I’m eating 3 meals a day with a few healthy snacks but the biggest thing for me is that I don’t want to eat sweets/cakes/fatty food.

Mum2Fergus · 06/12/2025 12:10

UsernameShmusername2024 · 06/12/2025 10:32

@Mum2Fergus I've been thinking a lot about xmas - I started MJ in Feb so this is my first on it. Only my DP and one friend know I'm taking it, definitely don't want to broadcast it so have also been thinking about how to hide my pen in the fridge as we have family staying for a week who will obviously be helping themselves to things. Did consider a mini fridge for our bedroom but have settled on putting it in a tomato puree box at the back of the salad draw as not sure anyone will be that interested in that!

In terms of eating, the fact that we have family staying means that I fully expect to eat very differently to how I would at christmas if it was only us - lots more bread I expect as well as all the Xmas food. I think my strategy will be to eat less rather than trying to avoid things as I don't want to be eating differently from everyone else. Christmas dinner we always just have the main and Xmas pudding - I'll be dishing up so will put out a smaller portion than normal and stop when I'm full, think that'll be easier to manage that all the other meals somehow.

I've had a sudden surge in suppression the last week or so - have been on 10mg for months with the effects gradually wearing off but not enough that I'd stopped losing and suddenly I'm SO full from the smallest meals, actually struggling to eat which I haven't had since the first month of so! Very unexpected! Thurs eve is when I jab and will stick to this so due to jab on Xmas day night which hopefully means I'll enjoy food on Xmas day! I am looking forward to starting January not having gained half a stone although equally I do expect to gain and that doesn't worry me at all which is so refreshing!

Interested to hear how others are approaching Xmas especially if you're entertaining a lot 😊

This is my first MJ Christmas too! Thankfully it will just be DH DS and I and only 1 social to attend.

As with you I’m planning on sticking with meals (although I’m OMAD as a rule), with no snacking in between. Drink wise, I’ve not really drank for over 2 years now, so I’m likely to just avoid it altogether.

I've bought 2 mini Christmas puddings, 1 mini Christmas cake, crackers and a piece of cheese.

I'll start eating them on Christmas eve and spread it out til new year. I didn't buy mince pies because I can only get them in 6 packs. I'm hoping our Christmas hosts might have bought some so I can have just 1! Also bought a box of chocolates which have been opened and a week later there are still chocolates in the bowl and half a tub left in the cupboard.

For Christmas we're going to family and based on previous years I'm not expecting a big portion to be available anyway.

Had my hair cut yesterday and got husband to take a picture, we were going out so bit of make up on and a dress, well I can’t stop looking at it, I have a photo of me in same dress at a restaurant in February, 2 months before I started MJ and the difference is unbelievable. I post here most weeks and bemoan my 1lb a week loss but Wow, I can finally see the difference losing 3 stone makes and I think I need to stop wearing size 24 dresses, I have ordered a size 18 dress today, hope it fits🤞

52soon · 06/12/2025 20:06

@Missingducks I’m not brave enough for that😂

TragicMuse · 06/12/2025 20:19

I did a side-by-side of my face from a year ago. Different angles of photograph but goodness, the difference!

Anyway, I went for a major hair change today. I’m now bleach-blonde! It’s giving Tilda Swinton vibes!!

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 06/12/2025 20:40

Had dinner at my parents' house tonight, sort of buffet style food. It's no wonder I'm fat, growing up being fed like that! For 6 people there was a platter of sausage rolls, a normal size quiche and some mini quiches, a cheese board with crackers, two melty cheese dips, bread rolls, a pizza, chicken nuggets, cocktail sausages, crisps and a grudgingly produced green salad. I had said I would have been happy with quiche and salad but as they had got so much I felt obliged to have a bit less quiche and instead have a slice of pizza and a bit of cheese. Just about within my calories though so could have been worse - if it wasn't for the MJ I probably would have eaten double!

TheZingyFish · 07/12/2025 00:08

I’ve decided to dish myself up a small Christmas dinner in the kitchen away from everyone and put it in the fridge before I sit down at the table and dish myself another small Christmas dinner to eat. I love Christmas dinner, or any roast dinner, so much that I didn’t want to feel I was missing out so will have the amount I would usually have, but spread over two days. In some ways I think this might be better as I will now have two Christmas dinners!

I think there is a strong chance I will put some weight on over Christmas, but I would imagine most people will, I will just go back to what I’m currently going afterwards. I’m trying to adopt a slim person attitude to food rather than a dieting person attitude to food which would feel restrictive. Slim people don’t restrict every meal day, they just do moderation, which is what I’m trying to do.

A milestone today! Lost a pound which has taken me into the FIFTEENS wooohoooo! (Just... 15.13 😝)

I haven't been fifteen-something since I had my son 15 years ago. Think I was about 15.5 when he was born. (Not a nice memory that I had a high risk pregnancy for being so overweight).

Anyway. YAY! Staying away from the pan au chocolats is helping. Haha.

Now 101.6 so close to getting under than 100kg and seeing a 99.

@52soon so happy for you, hope you feel amazing in it.

SnowWhiteisMyFavourite · 07/12/2025 16:41

@52soon Well done, it must feel great!

I had a slightly disheartening shopping trip today. After losing 3.5st and all my old size 20 - 24 jeans getting way too baggy (these didn’t fit in August) I decided to try Next. Not a chance 😂 I think it will be at least another stone before I will get anything from there. They didn’t have any sizes larger than 20 available anyway. I managed to get a size 20 jeans from Matalan, the same size as my current jeans which obviously have stretched overtime but the difference is noticeable.

Well done @PearlTeapot I was stuck at 100.5 kg for 3 weeks but got under 100 kg eventually, I don’t know how our bodies work but I think something is happening even the weeks we don’t see a loss on the scale, I was 97kg this morning and the same as you haven’t been in 15’s since youngest was born and he’s 19!

I’m about 3lbs away from you Pearl and can’t wait to get into the 15s! I’m hoping I’ll do it before Christmas 🤞🏻. Think your starting weight was more than mine and you started later so you’re doing fantastically well, especially given your current circumstances. Give yourself a very well deserved pat on the back! Hope you’re also a step closer to going home.
