Help skinny stylish women in my phone! I've only just realised I need a dress for a function in early Feb 😱 It's a dinner at a conference being held at the Hilton in Paddington...dress code is annoyingly vague 'dress to be yourself/night out' wtf?! I feel like sequins would be too much? Thinking I'll just hire something from HURR - what does one wear to a do in February? Help please! I reckon im now a size 10 as the Queens of Archive dress i rented in a medium/size 12 back in early December was a tad on the big size....what style should I go for? (Long legs, droopy norks, upper arms toning up nicely but still a bit self-consciuous of the bingo wings)

If it helps, I’m in the midlands this coming week for a couple of conferences/ gala dinners for DH’s work. Also at a Hiltonesque hotel. Dress code is Cocktail dress. I’m wearing my black Albaray stretch lace dress bought last September for one night with a pair of Chanel heels with matching bag / or Gucci peep toe heels and probably my Karen Millen body con dress with balenciaga shoes and bag the next. Sequins feels a bit OTT but I’m also considering my Burgundy sequin midi dress with burgundy Gucci heels and a burgundy Gucci bag DH bought me before Xmas.

I’ve filtered dresses and size 10 in this link. The black lace maxi dress is the one I have and is now £50 which is great value. You’ll need a flesh coloured bra and possibly shapewear if you want to streamline your silhouette. There are other great options on here plus an extra 25% off certain lines.

Ooh what did you choose from Gail’s?

Sorry about the pound. It is indeed rude 😡

A salted caramel, banana and pecan cake. To be eaten during the Traitors final after a small tea to make sure I definitely have room to enjoy it properly! Thanks to gentrification I'll have a local Gails by next birthday - the middle class dream.

jay55 · 23/01/2026 20:44

I’ve stayed the same this week and am still having Chinese for dinner for the traitors final.
Want the weather to clear up so I can get out and about more. The rain and dark is so depressing.

Top tip - invest in great accessories - that way you can get away with less expensive clothing pieces 😉

Edited to say - you’ll reuse the accessories for many outfits so cost per wear is great.

Friday fashion interlude!

Anyone else watching Traitors? I’m obsessed with Claudia’s clothes, despite being a very different shape & colouring. I am now following her stylist on Insta and drooling all over all those small British heritage & niche brands.

Now I want some black & white penny loafers, and tan brogues, and stompy flat knee boots, and fingerless gloves, and a goddamned CAPE.

I have a cape! It’s tweed, Topshop, circa 2006. I wear it maybe once or twice a year (used to wear it with elbow length leather gloves) but it is still awesome. It may be my best buy ever.

Goldleafcat · 23/01/2026 10:47

I fell once - into the springs. I had a nasty bruise for about a week but then all good 🙄😅

Well done on all the exercise that’s awesome! I love your hair topper too - gorgeous colour and it looks 100% natural.

I’ve had regrowth since starting minoxidil (it’s rescued my eyebrows which were in a hell of a state!) but I think to see even more improvement I may need to increase my dose. I can be the guinea pig for us all 🐹

I’ve chickened out of minoxidil and cancelled my Hair + Me subscription. I may revisit this in 6 months if my hair doesn’t thicken up, but for now it feels like the risks outweigh the potential benefits.

LindtCurves · 24/01/2026 09:57

Hi everyone! Checking in. Sounds like many of us are enjoying living life to the fullest, which is lovely to see.

For a little while, I had a fabulous wardrobe but nowhere to show it off (lots of friends are in that 'staying home with my partner/ early parenthood' stage which doesn't help), so I've booked looads of social engagements for spring. It's a crime to keep beautiful clothes in the wardrobe unworn. Cue me wearing an Alaia mini skirt to pick up some bread at the bakery!

Currently trying to jab 5mg every 2 weeks for maintenance but not 100% sure it's working. Overall my appetite isn't huge, so say with dinner, I can take it or leave it.

However, when I get to about day 10 after the jab, I am capable of inhaling UPFs. I had 3x Ritter Sport bars the other night. Yesterday half a tub of ice cream. I'm not necessarily hungry/craving, but if there are 2 large Twix bars in front of me on day 10, I will wolf them down.

Perhaps I do just need to fully remove UPFs from my environment fully. It does feel like giving an alcoholic a sip of a drink and she goes on a bender kind of situation. Does anyone else feel like that around UPF sweets?

I'm able to stop and reset but I don't love the fact that I have a full bag of sweets in one sitting, whereas during the last 12 months I'd have a couple or none at all, and wouldn't be interested.

Perhaps the effects of titrating down and UPF addiction are 2 separate issues.

Chocolate recommendation though... HU bars are fabulous! https://hukitchen.co.uk/?srsltid=AfmBOopZY7cTP8qHpPmU3mcMzrj88baEJfOmeMeqehupsQFdNIxlRYt8

@Mounjaropen Ooh, you have seen La Winkleman in the flesh! Is it true she sheds her “TV style” for her civvy life?

RayonSunrise · 24/01/2026 11:01

@SerenePeer As I suspected she would, our Mounjaropen has come through with stellar suggestions AND is dressing for similar functions as well!

So as I am not dressing for such functions but love talking clothes, I’ll take a different approach to your question. You mentioned a few of your features - long legs, large of nork, arms toning up - and it got me thinking of the Kibbe stuff again. A caution - like any of these “systems” (seasonal colour analysis, etc) it can be useful, but only if you use it as a jumping off point for trying things and keeping track of what looks good, rather than obsessively trying to identify your “type” and then rigidly trying to adopt it.

There’s a decent intro to it here:

https://nomorerabbithole.com/ultimate-kibbe-body-types-style-guide/

Careful with the quizzes though, they’re pretty reductive. I found that for me the concepts of vertical (height), width (frame) and curve accommodations in clothing were most helpful. So, as I am very tall and have width (broad shoulders/upper torso) and curve (wide-set norks that show up on the sides of my front-facing silhouette), I look best with open necks, waist definition, draped/flowing fabrics, and single colour/tone from collar to ankle. I look less good in crew necks, stiff fabrics, colour blocking that “crops” my vertical line, and anything boxy/unstructured.

Apologies if this sends you down a rabbit hole! But I have found that being slim has meant I’ve gone through a process of finding EVERYTHING looked good for a bit, and then I got pickier and wanted to not just look slim but really dress for the me weight loss has revealed.

RayonSunrise · 24/01/2026 11:06

@LindtCurvesI applaud your bakery outfit!

I do think that UPFs are especially good at grabbing you when you’re hungry. They have that perfect combo of sweet/fat/salt to really hit your brain’s sense that you need calories NOW, and they’re easy to eat too fast.

I am finding that making sure I eat good, healthy food (including planned snacks if it keeps me out of the UPFs) also stops me eating too much/too fast. Right now I’m quite fond of very dark chocolate with nuts, or apple slices with natural peanut butter, taken with a cup of herbal tea mid-afternoon so I don’t find myself looking for something UPFy (like commercial cheese biscuits) when I’m starting to make dinner.

RayonSunrise · 24/01/2026 11:08

@TooExtraImmatureCheddar Sounds sensible. I hope your hair recovery continues without needing the pharmaceutical boost.

Your Tweed cape sounds gorgeous, and I love the sound for your long leather gloves with it. I do love clothes with a bit of flair.

LindtCurves · 24/01/2026 11:50

@RayonSunrise Yes, you're right, I've certainly tried on some mid outfits and gone 'wow, I look amazing!' Whereas it hasn't been due to the outfit that I've looked amazing... I do wear more 'ugly' clothes as well now that I wouldn't have dared to wear in my old life as I always neeed something flattering. Now I'll happily wear the odd oversized item or an odd shape.

Yes you're right about the food. It's very much 'I don't fancy a full dinner but let me grab this little thing'. And next thing I know I'm 3 choc bars down.

'Making sure I eat' is probably the right way to go about it. I don't tend to feel hungry after lunch, so then do not eat, but might feel hungry at around 7pm and make the wrong choices. Probably wiser to eat around 5pm and make a good choice. Will try that. The UPFs are finished now anyway, will wait til tomorrow to jab.

Having an early dinner and then endless herbal tea usually works nicely for my routine.

Ooooh thank you @rayonsunrise! I shall investigate this afternoon over a cuppa! I love clothes but I'm struggling a bit to dress my new body size and shape - I'm loving the styles being this size has opened up but feel a bit stuck in my old style rut. That reminds me, I said I was going to book myself a stylist appointment somewhere fabulous and treat myself to some very chic outfits, so I must get that booked now I'm a whisker away from goal.

So I finally made it to my lovely local independent bra shop to get a new bra this morning. My norks was positively flapping in the breeze from within my bra, so it was well overdue. November 2024 I was wearing a 38G and spilling out. This morning I measured as a 32 E 😱

Loving the smaller boob chat. I’ve gone from a 32G to a 28F, I tend to wear a 30E or F though. They seem tiny now! My measurement has gone from 40 to 34!!

31 weeks post jabs now and still in my weight range although at the upper end this week after a drinking weekend. Although I had a dream I’d put it all back on last night so maybe that’s a warning to get myself fully back on track.

Goldleafcat · 26/01/2026 09:16

Lol@ small boob chat! Yes I am also blessed with much smaller norks - not even sure I could call them norks now, perhaps norklets?

Fashion chat! So now my weight is more stable (hovering around 10 stone, ideally I’ll get a bit lower but will see) I want to invest in a few new wardrobe bits. Am thinking a blazer, some nice shirts / blouses and trousers for the office (I wear a bit of anything really but feel it would be nice to try the shirt and blazer look after not wearing one for years).
What are views on Hobbs? What’s the sizing like? I’ve seen this blazer which I quite like :

Thank you - will brave a 12 and see. Despite the relatively small norklets I have a broad ribcage and shoulders so doubt a 10 would be quite roomy enough. Have seen some white shirts in the sale too.

I've not been in Hobbs for years! Used to always covet their jacket and dress combos back in the early 2000s 😍 Have a look at Mint Velvet too - they have some lovely blazers usually
