I am really struggling to get back to healthy eating post Christmas. I have been titrating down but also having quite a stressful time supporting an elderly parent who has just been released from hospital (60 miles away) and is currently bed bound. I have realised just how much stress affects my ability to eat sensibly. Batteries have also died in my scales so missing the accountability.

Sounds like it’s full on for you at the moment, I would be kind to yourself and take it as it comes.

Since Christmas I am struggling to stop snacking left right and centre, and am definitely fancying foods I wouldn’t normally crave any more (burgers, fried chicken etc)! So I’m trying to make healthier nods to these to scratch the itch (turkey schnitzel tonight). I’m starting to think it’s partly due to being in the depths of winter and just wanting to eat and hibernate 😆

MsRumpole · 16/01/2026 09:03

I think my struggle is that although food noise has definitely reduced massively, I don't have this sudden aversion to crap food that others have. I still like the things I always liked. I just want much less of it!

Hi for the first time in ages, hope everyone is doing ok. I need to catch up on who has had a milestone.

I'm still on 5mg every 10 days ish until I deplete my last pen (still have a full one and half of a second one left), I'm not convinced it's having much affect on my appetite or food noise anymore, but my weight has been very stable all over Christmas despite my adventures in cheese. At this point I definitely don't want to lose any more, my size 8 jeans are a bit gapey around the waist and I've had to go down to a 6 in my beloved Tu barrel jeans (although my BMI is still 21 or just below) and that is definitely as far as I want to go, if not even a bit too low for me.

I'm also going through a bit of a major life event (nothing bad!) and have treated myself to a few pastries and crisps this week but don't intend to continue that beyond this week.

@Mounjaropen I've been getting really into Pvolve, I'm doing the January challenge, are you? Now I've properly got into it I absolutely love it. So different to anything else.

I’m the same. I’ve never stopped enjoying the indulgent stuff, I just can’t put away a lot of it when I’m on the jabs. So there is some discipline involved in proper healthy eating still! And I still love wine, and cocktails, so being alcohol free fo most of the week is still something I have to consciously aim for. I really wish I was a die hard G&T or beer person, as the 0% options for those are excellent!

My mum has Type 2 diabetes and having her round at Christmas kept me quite mindful of my own eating, as I was pretty focussed on making sure I was supporting her dietary needs. Her rules of thumb - each meal should be half veg, a quarter protein, and the rest healthy fats with a bit of higher-fibre carb - seem pretty solid for maintenance. I slipped out of it this week because my youngest was desperate for some pasta and I also wanted to make a split pea soup with the last of the Christmas ham, but I think I’ll head back to doing that with my next week’s meal plan.

RayonSunrise · 16/01/2026 10:52

Hey @evilharpy, nice to see you!

I know what you mean about feeling like the jabs aren’t doing much, but I have to say I suspect my 5mg actually is still doing something, it’s just not - um, how to put it? - as dramatic as before. I have an appetite, and can eat when I’m not hungry so do need to watch that, I just still have a bit of a curb on how much I’m eating overall. Which is great for easing into maintenance, as it’s pointing out to me where I actually have to think about/plan things…

I do think that maintenance is a challenge in a few ways. For one thing, it’s not reinforced by that delightful sense of accomplishment that watching the scale numbers tick down has. As you say, you know when you’ve lost enough and need to stick where you are, but just “stay the same” doesn’t have the same force behind it!

Sorry to hear about your life stuff in the background. I’m a self-soother through food myself, I hope everything isn’t putting too much stress on you.

Happy Friday everyone!

Quick update from me..

Weight: still carrying my Xmas weight.. boo. Keeping on keeping on though!

Exercise: Tennis twice this week, 5 x Pvolve and 5 x 45min incline treadmill walks at 4.2mph (I’ve been watching His&Hers on Netflix - highly recommend by the way )

Food: I’ve gone back to logging into MFP to remain accountable and to really think before having something outside of ‘mealtimes’ . Would recommend the recipes from Jamie Oliver’s ‘Feasts for a fiver’- I made the additional cabbage dish this week that accompanied his hearty chicken hotpot- Was delicious. Also taken on the simple tip offered by Tim Spector on ‘what not to eat’ about increasing the nutritional value of vegetables by ‘chop and stop’ Apparently Chopping the vegetables and then leaving them for 15mins breaks down cell walls, which activates an enzyme called myrosinase. This enzyme is crucial for producing sulforaphane, a beneficial anti-inflammatory compound linked to improved glucose control, reduced cholesterol, and potential cancer-fighting properties.

Beauty: I’ve been very good and used my Nuface every day this week and I’be also been micro needling.

Shopping: I’ve bought nada 💪 my bestie is getting married so I’ve helped her find a dress for an April wedding. That has scratched my itch 😂

Intentions for 26: I’m half way though the Rebel finance course ✅
I’ve booked a holiday for q2✅
I’ve been booze free during the week ✅
I’ve written every day ✅
I’m getting on with Vinted this coming week as I’ve prioritised the financial stuff.

Weekend plans include finding something fun to do with DH (I might book a tango class or a class at a new exercise place that has just opened up).

Hope everyone has something good planned for the weekend!

Am a daily weigher too. Learning to trust the process and keep going has been the biggest change on mj for me. And I have learned about how my body reacts to various situations.

The keeping going is a real miracle.

Hard agree! Keep going missus! 💪

Well, that was a short break. I weighed in, discovered I'd gained about a stone over Christmas, and am now back on the MJ after a chat with the doctor. Basically the gastric symptoms are probably about not having got nutrition/time of eating quite right.

Interesting, though. I went back to 5mg from 10, because I'd last jabbed on the 16th Dec, and the food suppression is really effective but I don't have the side effects. I do wonder if it's a bit like perfume - it's not that it doesn't still smell lovely, but your nose gets used to it and so you find yourself putting more and more on over time.

Currently very much enjoying not thinking too much about food, although I do find myself dithering in the kitchen and then realise it's because my stomach is really not hungry but the binge eater in my head still thinks I should be bingeing.

Well it’s lovely to hear from you despite your woes!

I know I eat out of boredom/habit. As boring as it is, the faff of having to log it into MFP is enough to stop me bothering to put it into my mouth 😂

I know what you mean about dithering in the kitchen and your brain asking you why are you not binge eating @MsRumpole but now all the Christmas stuff is cleared out it is easier. DH has mentioned there’s nothing to snack a few times now but I will have to retrain back into pre-December expectations - eg not every nut is covered in chocolate, the cake tin is not full of Christmas cake and we don’t keep a fully stocked cheese board just in case his tummy rumbles 😂

The dining room has a jigsaw puzzle to stop dithering moments in the kitchen

Aiming to break the 10 stone weight barrier by end of January. Now back to weighing daily because I have to.

Love the jigsaw idea! Genius.

working on nutrition is key. It is hard, but it is doable. you’ve got this 💪

Welcome back @MsRumpole

I’m at the ‘summit’ of Mounjaro at 15mg and planning to move down to 12.5mg after my next two 15mg pens (realised I had two in my secret fridge stash!). I’ve got some 12.5mg ones ready from Oushk waiting in the fridge too (to keep up my ordering continuity). However, my latest Oushk order (due today) has gone AWOL (not their fault, it’s DPD) and if the pen arrives warm I may have to use that 12.5 first! My plan is to move down the doses to ease me into a life after the pen… we shall see.

In other news I’m happy to report I’m now 0.2lbs (ha) lighter than I was pre Christmas 🎄 🎉

Ooh well done! That’s a real achievement.

Oushk are liable for the order replacement until it is in your hands so don’t let them off the hook. They chose DPD, not you 😉

@cantbesure that's absolutely brilliant! It's great having you as our post-MJ poster girl!

@oceangrey Ooh you temptress! I'm back in London next week so shall make sure I have a rummage for some swanky sale bargains in Selfridges!

I know it's frustrating for those of us who are still carrying the proof of cheeseboards and festive feasting, but goodness it's reassuring to know I'm not the only one! I didnt weigh daily over Christmas and I'm sure that was a slippery slope to complacency for me.

I deliberately weighted myself every day during Xmas so I didn’t lose sight of how things were going. Glad I did. Didn’t stop me enjoying ALL of the cheese and booze but I was aware of the effect it was having.

You know you need to get the batteries replaced. Make that your next job.

i hear you on the elderly parent issue. It was absolutely a key factor for me. Can you invest an hour or so to prep healthier choice foods to have ‘ready to go’ so you can grab something that is a better choice. Maybe leave some at the other end too at your parents place?

I hope things get better for you. 💐

I don’t think anyone can genuinely turn off the craving for something you’ve always fancied.. have one of whatever it is and see how it affects your digestion/mood/appetite and then decide if it’s worth it. I ate some Cadbury’s buttons last week…too many tbh. Had a massive headache as a result. This week.. steering clear of them!

Fantastic resolve on display there, you’re doing brilliantly! Very impressive indeed.

That’s a very interesting tip from Tim Spector. When I was cooking with my mum in mind I was often making a chopped salad to bolster a meal’s veggie count - tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, radishes, sometimes a few other bits that would be good raw (fennel, etc) - and dressing it with a little oil and vinegar or lemon. Super simple, but it did meet the criteria he’s laid out there for optimising nutrition. Clearly I should keep the habit up!

My elderly parent project this year is to help my mum downsize and move closer to family support. It’s a familiar midlife story, I know…

As a tip, take photographs of things that elderly parents want to keep hold of, but practically you know there is either no room for or it’s not practical.… Then encourage them to sell/donate but they’ve always got the photograph to look back at whenever they want to reminisce. Use the money to do something that might create a memory with either children/grandchildren etc. It is a really hard stage of life for both parties…💐
