@LindtCurves I’m not on wli ( did 6 weeks and came off) but I am still following the principles since April - I’m down around 2stone 4 , so not hugely fast but that includes 3 holidays ( one just gone at New year in Sweden) and Xmas . Like you even though I like cooking I’ve kept it very simple apart from 2 days a week and on those 2 days I make things from the simply cook kits - for me it’s been a lot of eggs, Greek yoghurt, berries, bananas, soup, Waitrose pink slaw, Longley farm cottage cheese in daytime and salad with prawns, salmon, chunky fish fingers, or vegetables with Waitrose wagyu meatballs( very nice) or a breaded chicken escalope with veg or a chicken stir fry on cauliflower rice etc

one thing my h ate a lot whilst losing weight was good quality salsa ( he likes Waitrose) on proper high grade Swedish crisp bread

I agree things such as chicken breast and salmon are quick and easy to do in the air fryer. My shopping baskets these days have lots of basic ingredients.

I have fallen back in love with other kitchen gadgets such as my Lakeland soup maker and the slow cooker has been busy this winter. Yesterday was the turn for a simple sticky date beef stew - delicious 😋 chop chop, chuck in and switch on - five hours later cook the rice - et voila 🍴

Ooh that stew sounds nice -

Excellent progress, @PinkArt! I feel your pain on the metabolic rate. I have sworn to do some more lifting (home weights) as well as my PVolve and running. Just keeping things ticking over but building strength and balance, that’s my goal…

Vis-a-vis the convos on nutrition and meals, Jen Gunter has another good Substack today on protein and what the evidence is for how much women really need, especially in & around menopause. We are all pretty bombarded with marketing on menopause health and protein for health, so the evidence for who needs what is pretty handy. There are a lot of charlatans out there right now pushing supplements that may not be needed, let alone deliver what they promise:

https://open.substack.com/pub/vajenda/p/how-much-protein-do-women-need?r=xhvm&utm_medium=ios&shareImageVariant=overlay

I’ve calculated that I need around 100g/day for my current weight, which I think I’m getting pretty easily through mainly Icelandic yoghurt, eggs and chicken breasts. So no panics for me just yet! I have protein powder, but perhaps I don’t need it just yet - at least til my lifting gets a little more serious?

Agree also. My shopping is proteins, veg fruit etc. The only treat foodstuffs are mejool dates, lentil crisps and dark chocolate.

So I’m watching the Tim Spector series (love Tim, he changed my life!)

Something I’m finding interesting, and reading on here as well, is that people find healthy eating challenging because of the cooking time involved. Indeed, in the show, the recipes are quite elaborate and time consuming.

Personally I’m not sure why people trying to eat healthy are pushed so strongly towards cooking really complex (IMO) recipes.

My key to changing my lifestyle has been keeping meals really simple. Anything longer than 10 mins cooking is a long time for me on my current diet!

One of my fave meals is tuna steak. I make a quick side salad while it fries. Or steak, chicken, whatever, it’s usually a protein with some kind of salad or quick-cook veg like broccoli. Feta or mozzarella for extra protein.

Snacks are almost exclusively fruit. Or fruit in Greek yoghurt, fruit and chia in kefir etc. This can be breakfast too.

Talking of breakfast, that’s often an omelette, or eggs on sourdough.

I love how food tastes in its rawest form, I don’t necessarily love cooking or eating things like fish pie, chili con carne, risotto, quiche etc. It’s nice sometimes but I prefer the actual taste of ingredients on their own.

Does anyone else like to eat simply like that, and quick fresh meals only? Or am I the only weirdo? 🤣

I feel eating in the way I do hugely removes the ‘too complicated’ or ‘too time consuming’ excuse to avoid eating healthy.

I thought that, and I cook like you but I am fortunate in my food budget. The reality is when you are cooking for a family on a budget, the only way to really bulk out meals so it is cost effective is to make curries, fish pie, shepherds pies etc which are faffy to make from scratch. It is also a sad fact that the reason so many families eat UPF food is (apart from convenience and a lack of knowhow) is that it is affordable and plentiful. Much cheaper than fresh produce and often requires less energy to make it. 5 supermarket fresh salmon fillets would be c£12 which is fine for one evening meal, but out of reach for most families as an every day meal. I had Tuna steaks for lunch today (my main meal) and even on offer, they were £6.50. The woman in the show favoured Aero bubble bars on offer, these are about a quid each. Her alternative was to choose Dates, pecans and dark chocolate which as an intial outlay is much more expensive (although you would be unlikely to scarf down the lot in one evening)

I’m hoping someone can help me out…..

At the very beginning, November 24, I told someone I was on MJ. Let’s call her Fiona.
Fiona is very clever, has a senior position with a lot of responsibility. I have known her for approx 25 years.

6 months later, April 25, Fiona messaged me to ask me where I got my MJ from. She ordered and we have been weekly check in buddies ever since.
I have know idea what her staring weight was, but she certainly didn’t look as heavy as me. Moving on, she has lost 6 stone.

Fiona has managed to gather a stash of pens so hasn’t actually ordered from a company since the price hike, so the company she has used are unaware of her current weight.

However, I think we have a wee problem and I don’t know how to support her.

Fiona’s husband, family and colleagues are asking her to stop losing weight. I saw her before Christmas and I personally don’t think she looks like she needs to lose any more but I haven’t commented.

When I saw her before Christmas, she got upset and was able to acknowledged that when she looks in the mirror she still sees her former fat self and she wishes everyone telling her to stop/slow the weight loss would STFU.

We agreed we would not check in until today, giving us the opportunity to enjoy Christmas & NY and then get back on it.
This morning she has messaged with an update. She is not in a good place mentally, but I don’t believe she has an awareness of how she is presenting herself. I actually think she now has the mindset comparable to someone with an eating disorder. Thinking she is fat when she is anything but.

I made some suggestions to her, but I know from her reply she is not on board.

She is very much a reader, does anyone know of any therapeutic books/articles they can recommended that she reads which may help with her mindset.

Thanks for reading if you got this far, my weekly update is 1lb off.

You poor thing, what a difficult place to be in. Could you maybe ask ChatGPT for advice on reading material for Body Dysmorphia? I think that might be the closest condition that your friend is suffering from? You sound like a great friend and it must be a worry for you. I've had friends who've had kids with ED's and it is enormously stressful when someone can't see what you see. Sending you some 🌺

Ah yes, same, no worrying about which colour goes with which. And likewise, I don’t think it ever flattered my facial features as much. Though I still like black bottom halves and shoes for their versatility. It’s hard to wear white trousers without getting them stained or them being see-through. Also tried a beautiful eye wateringly expensive designer skirt in white the other day and while conceptually it looked nice, it shows things like panty lines or tights so much more.

Any tips from anyone on how to nail white/ cream/ ballet pink skirts and trousers?

My colour analyst says that your range of colours becomes much wider once you get a tan, so perhaps cream/ecru in the summer for you?

Have just packed for a weekend away and 4/6 outfits are predominantly white/cream!

Fake tan is everyone's friend for these sort of colours. I'm very pale but my weekly tan means I can waft about in beige, pink etc 😉

Hmmm yes, interesting, thanks for your insight. I do sometimes wonder how much the 'feeding the family' aspect features in these choices.

I don't make the faffy meals largely because it would take me such a long time to eat, e.g. 3-4 sittings and I'd be bored of it by then.

Talking of the tuna steak, it's about £6.50-7 indeed. The way I now eat is I'll have a double helping of the protein, and not that much else, i.e. 7 quid spent on protein content, and maybe another quid on the side veg/tzatziki/ cheese. I suppose if you are feeding more people though, you need the bulk of the meal to be cheaper, i.e. pasta/rice/potatoes, with just enough protein so it doesn't break the bank. And the protein has to be cheaper, e.g. mince, chicken.

Is that what you're getting at?

To be fair, my work colleagues do say about their really high grocery bills every week (£150-200 for 2 people). I have stopped talking because 'I struggle to get up to the Ocado minimum order value for my biweekly shop' isn't going to make me popular!

I reckon I could still come up with easier meal than a shepherd's pie to feed 4 though... How about just boiling the potatoes and making an easy mince sauce with veg? Or serving 1x chicken fillet per person with rice and veg on the side? Things with minimal intervention, such as a huge pasta bake with peppers, tomatoes, green beans and canned tuna + cheese for the protein? A massive Spanish omelette?

You're right, better snacks cost a lot for sure. I've switched off from these shelves now other than high quality chocolate and some Italian biscuits, but it shock me to see the price of some of these things is under a pound! In my head, because of what I buy, the cost of a sweet snack start at £4 😂

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 10/01/2026 00:24

Feeling chuffed as just back from meal out with girlies and I opted for steak and salad. I am happy to pay an extra 10 quid for protein that hasn’t been mucked about with too much. No pudding or pudding sharing as I just couldn’t face it

In Supermarkets I don’t even loiter in the crisps and biscuits aisles as I have no interest at in them.

Morning all! I’m feeling virtuous after having an AF Friday night 😇
DH on the other hand has a hangover from hell…😆

Saw this article in today’s Times which might be of help. Some interesting facts about brands and ingredients which I’m definitely taking on board for 2026. For me, the swaps will be higher fat content beef mince for the extra collagen (makes sense but who knew?, you just assume higher fat is worse for you) , choosing frozen wild salmon rather than fresh farmed and supermarket own brand cream cheese rather than the leading brand. In fact I’ve just made smoked salmon scrambled egg this morning over an open sandwich of cream cheese/smoked salmon on seeded bread (a usual Saturday morning brunch treat) after reading it.

Thanks for the article @Mounjaropen - makes for interesting reading! We switched to full fat milk and butter when my teenagers were babies. DH is delighted to read about chicken thighs - he's always preferred them (usually because they're cheaper than breast!). I do need to stop our crisp habit though...started over Christmas and it needs to stop! M&S olive oil crisps 🤤

Snap! So did we. The motto here has been full fat everything but in moderation. So one full fat coke but no Diet Coke. I’m with your DH on Chicken thighs too.. but then I always buy a whole chicken and portion it up as it’s cheaper. DDog eats 1kg of chicken drumsticks a day plus 1/2kg of mince 😂

Advice needed please. I upped my maintenance back to 7.5 on Wednesday because I was so insanely hungry. It hasn’t done anything at all. I realise that diet had slipped back into more carbs, chocolate and alcohol. I’m on holiday and have been eating more protein this week but just want to eat everything. Drinking 3l of water and trying to make better choices. Thank you. 🙏

I've had a similar week @dreamqueen. Manage to gain 5lbs over Christmas despite feeling like I was angelic Christmas week. But then got complacent the week after and drank all the Baillies, all the cream, all the chocolate 🤦‍♀️ Then this past week I've been eating like a ravenous teenage boy. I've had weeks like this in the past, so I'm trying not to panic. Today was a golden dose day, so I extracted a smidge more than I needed for a wee extra boost. I've now been labouring over a bowl of berries and natural yogurt for an hour, so I'm hopeful that means that normality is returning and my hungry week is behind me! It's been so cold where I am and I've done more exercise than normal, plus my body is playing period roulette with my brain (will it arrive? Will it not? Having some PMT and cramps just for good measure anyway 😫). So no advice as such, just you're not alone.

I’ve had that - and like @SerenePeer I’ve found it’s gone hand in hand with more UPFs, salt & booze in my diet. I gained 3lb over Christmas that has dropped off pretty quickly once the crisps-and-a-drink-every-day Christmas cycle ended.

I’d still not been eating anything like what I’ve had in the past, but it’s been really interesting to see just how much my appetite and weight have realigned since I got back to the steady diet of whole foods and lots of water I was one before the hols!

I am not at maintenance yet but did have a maintenance call with Oushk a few weeks ago. The person said that going up a dose in maintenance was fine as not all maintenance works in a linear fashion and there can be hiccups along the way.

We are probably all having a post Christmas re-set as we get back into the swing of things.

That was a very useful article, @Mounjaropen - I wouldn’t have thought of swapping farmed salmon for frozen wild salmon, and I didn’t know mince was a source of collagen either! Also now alerted to the existence of cocoa nut butters rather than Nutella, shall try DD on that.

DH has bitten the bullet and ordered MJ - very proud of him! He weighed himself for the order for probably the first time in about 5 years and got a shock. He’s got approx 6 stone to lose so I really hope MJ treats him gently and he doesn’t have side effects.
