Nothing is off topic and progress photos always welcome, encouraging us all to keep going!

No discount codes please - there is a separate thread for that.

@AnneinEdinburgh I'm reposting here what I've said on the thread started about that research:

Having read both The Guardian and the BBC article about that "new" study. Let's be clear, it's not a new, recent trial. It's a study collating weight regain data from 37 previous trials of WLI of which only 8 are the most recent ie mounjaro and wegovy.

From the BBC article:
The researchers looked at 37 studies with over 9,000 patients to compare the blockbuster weight-loss jabs with conventional dieting or other pills.
Only eight of the studies assessed treatment with the newer GLP-1 drugs, such as Wegovy and Mounjaro, and the maximum follow-up period in these studies was a year after medication stopped, so the figures are an estimate.

There's also no mention of whether any of the trials studied involved tapering down.

Someone else highlighted this:

On average, the participants took the medicines for 39 weeks and provided follow-up data for 32. The scientists extrapolated from the studies to forecast what would have happened after a further lapse of time.
The scientists acknowledged limitations in their work including that almost a third of the trials they surveyed had a high risk of bias. The populations in the drug and behavioural treatment programmes might have differed in potentially important ways, such as the degree of obesity and incidence of comorbidities, they added.

Basically, nothing new to see here but the press loves a scaremongery, absolutist headline.

AnneinEdinburgh · 08/01/2026 13:39

Thanks @GiveMeWordGames they do indeed!

RobinEllacotStrike · 08/01/2026 13:54

I read the BBC article - like @Reginaphalangeeeee eating sugar/processed carbs over xmas was a bit of a shock - my body started calling for more.

I am a bit concerned at how easily my tendancy to eat too large a portion will return. I can stick with good food choices, but I know from past experiences that overeating healthy food still makes you gain weight.

Like many others, I think I will need a long term viable solution to keep the weight off. lets hope the pharma companies come up with something affordable & longterm soon.

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 08/01/2026 16:33

@GiveMeWordGames yes the article is a gift to WLI haters who can point and say told you so. There needs to be a study - pick a load of people from the various MN month groups from 2024. Lots of data to be gleamed from up with SW, CW, max dose, how long etc and then what happened next. So many of us have made significant changes to our lifestyles in order to reduce any potential weight regain

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 08/01/2026 17:03

@RobinEllacotStrike I still have 6lbs to go and hopefully will be tritating slowing down. I am prepared to stay on MJ forever if needs be but hopefully at a more affordable 2.5 or 5 mg. Always interesting to here how some have reduced the dose and spread the jabs out.

I have tried to reduce UFPs and do my best not to buy biscuits, crisps, pizzas etc.

Not sure if we are going to see a cost reduction just yet but maybe in another few years.

GoingDownDown · 08/01/2026 13:01

I wasn’t particularly surprised by the results around maintenance. I’ve had to leave several Facebook groups because they were full of people really not taking WLI seriously. Existing on crisps, taking such high doses that they barely ate, etc. Maintaining any weight loss is hard, and if you haven’t built yourself any new habits while losing it’s presumably even harder.

The friends I mentioned earlier who have lost and now maintained, fully turned their lives around. Learned to cook, built a new routine with daily exercise, etc.

people can make the long term sustainable changes and that hopefully is where I want to end up. I like the idea of being to get MJ support if needed.

Like you have have left fb groups as too many people on it thinking MJ is a miracle fat burner which we know it isnt. There’s no point assuming MJ does all the heavy lifting without any effort from ourselves. I am also motivated by the amount I have paid out so far.

I would have loved to have been NHS funded but even with a BMI of over 40 I didn’t stand a chance of that.

Bunnyjo · 08/01/2026 19:00

Happy New Year to you all!

Seeing all the photos is such a boost - so many of you are doing so well and you're an inspiration to those of us who still have some way to go.

The days and weeks are running away with me at the moment - it's crazy busy at work and I really only had Xmas Day, Boxing Day and NYD off (was even on call last weekend). Because of how busy I've been, just over 2 weeks have passed since I last posted and weighed myself.

SW: 15st 5.5lb
CW: 12st 8.5lb
Loss: 39lb
Current BMI: 31.3
Target Weight 1: 12st 2lb (overweight BMI)
Target Weight 2: 10st 2lb (healthy BMI)

I’d love to hit my first big target of 12st 2lb by the end of the month, but I think that might be a little ambitious...

That was always my issue - I ate really well , very little crap at all, just too much of it and probably too much wine -

alltablenochairs · 08/01/2026 23:32

I'm expecting to be on MJ in some way, shape or form for a long time. Because its done what a lifetime of diets in all ways, shapes and forms has failed to do and I'm actually losing weight. Yes, I know why things got like they are, yes I know comfort eating is and continues to be an issue for me but for once I'm doing something thats just for me alone. OK so I was told to 'do something' but the how is all on me.

I have very little faith in the NHS and their MJ roll-out though so its MJ purchased. It seems like they are deliberately making it as hard as possible in the hope that people will just go away.
No disrespect to NHS tier 3 services either but when I was referred to them, the 'advice' I received from them was pretty useless. It literally was a handful of leaflets about eating less and moving more. The 1-1 'personalised' consultation was especially amusing. Because the person doing it clearly hadn't even looked at me before launching on a spiel about exercise and how I could 'join the gym' (nope, they wont have me), 'go swimming' (pool hoist has been broken for the best part of a year now....), go for a walk (would love to!) or howabout a bike ride?? I gave up at this point.

alltablenochairs · 08/01/2026 23:41

OK, so advice needed this time from others. Disclaimer- this is NOT me asking for questionable advice for dubious purposes, its a one-off scenario.

I'm due to go for a big family meal with my entire extended family this Sunday. The restaurant is booked for 30 places. It's a serve yourself type situation as well. Except Saturday is MJ day so come Sunday I wont want to eat very much at all, if anything - to putit in perspective I did a roast last weekend at home and served it on a side plate! The lack of food will absolutely be noted by certain members of the family and be spoken about. No-one except my husband and my bestie knows about the MJ either and it's not something I plan on telling anyone else so thats not an option.

So does anyone have any ideas about how I can disguise my lack of appetite in such a way that won't pique curiosity? There's always the standby option of DH's plate but as I dont eat meat and he doesnt eat veg in the same way I do it would look a bit suspect if I offload veggies wholesale on his plate!

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 09/01/2026 00:03

Just saying you are not feeling 100% @alltablenochairs had flu or coming down with something. Or you are recovering from tummy bug

SecondCircuit · 09/01/2026 06:45

I would jab on Sunday then @alltablenochairs .

I faced a similar situation, only in the other direction- had a big family meal on a Sunday (jab day) and didn’t want to pig out as knew there would be lots of tasty food and temptations. I moved my jabbing to Saturday as I experience biggest suppression the day after.

It worked. Amongst other delicacies there was an amazing three bird pie. I had a sliver of it not a chunk, as I was able to resist the pull to eat more. I grazed rather then piled food on plate.

The only difference - I was not concerned with it being registered. In fact, because it was a big bustling gathering I could proceed unnoticed.

SecondCircuit · 09/01/2026 07:24

But if you are adamant you don’t want to eat just say you’ve had a tummy bug as suggested by slimming pumpkin.

In my case I knew I had to rein in my appetite as had stopped losing for well over a month (had far too early start to Christmas festivities) and was getting anxious and frustrated.

But if you are steadily on your path I would move a jab and enjoy this family gathering and food.
Have a lovely time @alltablenochairs .

That was always my issue - I ate really well , very little crap at all, just too much of it and probably too much wine -

Yes me too - I always cook from scratch, no takeaways / fast food, don’t eat meat, almost never drink alcohol - last year I had one drink on just five occasions, never more than one and no wine. Not saying I was perfect - I did sometimes eat crisps / chocolate / homemade cakes etc. So I think I’ve just been in denial about how I could have piled on so much weight.

This week is making me realise that I definitely did eat between meals regularly, and that my portion sizes were unnecessarily large. Also my beloved breakfast of two slices of sourdough toast with butter, marmite, and peanut butter and multiple cups of tea probably wasn’t a great way to start the day!

MooBaggage · 09/01/2026 08:15

@alltablenochairs I'd probably go with stomach bug/migraine/feeling a bit off at the moment-type excuse. Of course you probably can't then get too raucous and be doing wheelies up and down o belting out some karaoke or anything 😄

Actually, I might use that one myself - not for the eating, but so I would have a good excuse to leave a family meal early...! 😀

ShrankLastWinter · 09/01/2026 09:13

I reckon I’d jab a day late but also just eat slowly. And choose lean protein and lots of veg. It’s a buffet, right? So I’d refill plate while it’s still half full, just adding some more decoy veg so it looks like I’m going up for more but actually not really.

Then in the longterm family will have to get used to the new reality that you’re a slim, healthy person with a small appetite who eats for health.

MooBaggage · 09/01/2026 09:18

ooh yes decoy veg is always a good idea - I do that sometimes! I've told all my friends and family, but was out with the boyf's family the other day for a pub meal and they don't know - I chose the healthiest option (sea bass) and had loads of veg and just took my time. Didn't order a pudding and no-one said anything. All good!

I realised too that I was making myself the same size portions as my 6 inch taller H and was eating far too much carb - pasta, rice, toasted sandwiches etc - for many it’s ‘what they eat’ - for me it was simply portion size , especially at dinner in an evening . The biggie for me was covid and mental health - we had just emigrated at the time ( now back) and the temptation in Copenhagen when most things were shut and we didn’t know anyone ( even my new co working centre was shut) was that the gorgeous patisseries were open, so it got to be a habit of get a lovely pastry and cappuccino mid afternoon and a bottle of wine between us 5 days week . I came back 20 months after we went 2 stone heavier -and I was 2 stone over an ‘ok but not slim’ level before we went . It gave me a much better understanding too of why many people make poor choices for health when life feels a bit flat/going to shit/out of control

SecondCircuit · 09/01/2026 10:07

Does anyone remember M&S jeans recommended here much earlier, probably even on previous thread?
Do you recall what style/name they were?
(Or I’ve mixed things up and saw it elsewhere?)

Went to big M&S but was overwhelmed with choice. Tried some but didn’t look good and returned empty handed.

And the changing rooms mirrors are really unforgiving. Only gave me palpitations.

GiveMeWordGames · 09/01/2026 10:28

@SecondCircuit I recommended Eva bootcut jeans a while back?

I got the call from the hospital yesterday and ALL IS FINE. Just scar tissue at the original op site. 2026 is good to go. Onwards and downwards everyone, especially to all our new year newbies. 💪

MooBaggage · 09/01/2026 10:31

@GiveMeWordGames Yay!!! That's great news - I've been hoping it would be, so that's brilliant! Definitely onwards and downwards in 2026 now 😃

Is anyone else thinking about holidays for this year (says she, going away tomorrow for 3 weeks...!). I keep booking bits and bobs - am going to my favourite place, North Norfolk, in late June 2026 and keep wondering what size I'm going to be then - hopefully down a size - and therefore what clothes I'll need to order on Vinted...! 😄

GiveMeWordGames · 09/01/2026 11:10

Ooh, have a wonderful holiday @MooBaggage ! I'm definitely thinking about warm weather and holidays and all the lovely new clothes I'll need but the nature of mine and DH's work means we always tend to book fairly last minute.

YellowStockings · 09/01/2026 11:39

@MooBaggage we’ve got three nights in Paris booked in April, and four nights in Cornwall booked in May. Hoping to at least feel a bit lighter and more confident by then!

SecondCircuit · 09/01/2026 12:16

@GiveMeWordGames - that is wonderful news! Worry free start into the New Year.

Thank you for Eva bootcut - will make another trip to M&S over the weekend.

@MooBaggage - you look fab in your last photo. And 10 years younger than the age you said you were (I was honestly shocked🙂).

As always I’m reading with interest and catching up on your stories and developments. All your losses and new looks have given me me a healthy boost to carry on and not to lose focus.

I think I’m back on track, though house still full of food (DC still home plus winter birthdays too).
Hols not on the radar yet. And only If Mounjaro doesn’t ruin me before…
