I’m starting to think about alternatives to Mounjaro as the side effects really are making me suffer, the diarrhea came back last night and for the first time in my life I did not quite make to the toilet on time! I gave in the and took some Imodium and stayed awake until my stomach settled down at 5 am!

I’m not sure that Wegovy will be helpful either as I lost more weight when dieting and fasting than since using Mounjaro. I guess I need to look into the efficacy of tablets rather than injections or just go it alone. I think I need to talk to the pharmacist at the shop I get my pens from.

SnowWhiteisMyFavourite · 03/11/2025 12:35

@Ihateslugs I feel really bad for you as you keep having these horrible side effects. Do you keep food diary? Could it be something in your diet that doesn’t agree as you had a few days that you were feeling better? I don’t really have any other things to suggest.

SoUncertain · 03/11/2025 13:31

I also feel so awful for you @Ihateslugs. Definitely speak to your pharmacist as you can't go on like this. @SnowWhiteisMyFavourite's suggestion of a food diary is a good idea too. You could take it with you when you speak to the pharmacist. 💐

Chopsy123 · 03/11/2025 14:15

@lulu1921

In case you’re still struggling with the injection, here’s the info. to work out your clicks or units on a 2.5mg pen.

A full dose, whatever the pen is 60 clicks or 60 units on the 1ml syringes.

1x 60 clicks plus 1 x 30 clicks doses on a 2.5mg pen = 3.75mg
90 units on the syringe = 3.75mg.

lulu1921 · 03/11/2025 14:42

Thank you for replies, I got so confused that in the end I took the golden dose, and the same extracted amount from the new pen, I’ve probably taken near a 5mg dose which I’m not looking forward to once it kicks in.

chunkybear · 03/11/2025 15:11

Phew, end of week 8 for me! I’m only being weighed monthly:
4 weeks - lost 5.4kg
8 weeks - lost 3kg
so 8.4kg total so far

im having some wine tonight to celebrate 🥳

Chopsy123 · 03/11/2025 19:37

@chunkybear Wow, that’s brilliant! Definitely deserves a celebration. 🎉

Ihateslugs · 03/11/2025 23:18

For those who asked, I do keep a food diary and haven’t noticed anything untoward, I’ve not had any new things and I don’t have any allergies. The timing, always on day 1 or 2 after an injection makes me pretty sure that I’m having side effects to Mounjaro. I have already discussed it with the pharmacist ( I get my new pens through a local pharmacy so have a check in with him each month). He thinks it is a side effect but a perfectly normal one! He’s left it up to me whether to go up to a 7.5 mg or stay at 5 mg, kind of suggesting that I should just grin and bear it!

However, I’m definitely not eating much right now, I made a nice chilli type dish with minced beef, chick peas, kidney beans and orzo pasta and could only manage a few mouthfuls. I did have my usual bowl of frozen berries, full fat Greek yogurt topped with a little granola afterwards. So I think maybe the Mounjaro is starting to kick in but I’m not sure the side effects are worth the little weight losses I’ve achieved, just 10.5 lbs in 7 weeks since starting the jabs. I lost more when just dieting on my own!

I definitely won’t be going up to 7.5mg, I could not cope with the weekly diarrhoea, maybe try another month on 5mg and go back to fasting like I did successfully before. However, the pharmacy were unable to get 5mg pens when I had my monthly appointment so I’ll have to phone tomorrow to see if their order has arrived - I need a new pen by Friday!

I am a little better today, still got stomach cramps and wind but the diarrhoea seems to have stopped for now. My social life is really affected now as I keep cancelling things because I cannot leave the house.

I wonder what is a reasonable length of time to put up with the side effects before giving up?

Bigbus · 04/11/2025 08:49

@Ihateslugs the side effects I have are really horrible nausea, feeling very tired, and feeling cold. I stayed on 5mg for two months and that did really help as the side effects definitely wore off. However I can hear a bit of the food noise again so I’m going to go up to 7.5mg next week. For me it’s worth it because I’ve lost 25lbs but I have had times with the nausea when I’ve wondered if it’s worth it. I think a slower titration does help with the side effects for me. Also not eating anything too oily. And red wine is not good for me which is sad because I love red wine!

I’m with you by here, I been on weight loss jabs now since the start of September and I just feel rough. Started obviously when I did the jabs I was dizzy, felt sick, then I’d get a pounding heart rate. A few weeks passed sometimes got nausea and then I got a bug Diorrhea and sickness, sulfer burbs for 4 days, got over that and then moved up to 5mg last Fri and my body didn’t like it and I had stomach cramps all night and into the next day, also diarrhoea and sulfer burps again. I’m left feeling so drained and worn out and can’t carry on feeling so unwell. I’ve lost 9lbs in total so it’s not like the weight loss is even great to be honest. I’m fed up of feeling poorly , I’m normally a well ish person and just feel so run down and can’t be bothered to do anything. I can’t even go to the gym and weight train like I used to as I feel so weak.

i thought the jabs would be my best chance at losing weight as I’ve tried so many other diets in the past but never seemed to help long term. I don’t want to carry on putting on weight but also can’t live like this feeling so rubbish xx

bluepaperwaspofbxl · 04/11/2025 10:15

Start of week 8 weigh in day today, down another 0.7kg (1.5lbs). Almost at the 10kg mark. Have had a very stressful few days, with less sleep than I would usually have. Interestingly, I started to want to eat the halloween sweets and thought about opening a bottle of a prosecco a few times, but now my dear MIL has gone home, that's abated. Was even wondering if I need to go up a dose, but not so sure now.

It’s awful isn’t it! I’m so undecided what to do, carry on, stay at 5mg, go up to 75mg or give up! My body says STOP but my heart wants Mounjaro to work for me like it does for so many other people.

Well done that’s a fantastic result. 👏🏼👏🏼

I hope you’re feeling so proud of yourself for beating the ‘emotional’ eating/drinking trap that stressful situations often present us with. I would absolutely be taking that as a massive win. 💪🏻

I’m the same, I know going up a jab can make you Ill for a few days but I think I’m immune system is weak after the bug I had 3 weeks ago and then to be ill again from going up a dose on the weekend and then this cold and cough on top has made me miserable. I think I’ll stick the the 5mg and see how I go.

i have no interest in eating so it’s definitely working.
did you have supression and weight loss on 5mg if so stay on that dose x

Ginger. Either juiced or tea. Works every time for me.

As in proper juice or squash? Just something to take out in case it hits me like it does sometimes x

bluepaperwaspofbxl · 04/11/2025 18:28

@Elliebearblues You can take ginger cordial out with you and keep moju ginger in the fridge. Stops nausea in under 20 mins for me.

2lb loss for me this week 🎉

W1: 5.5 lb
W2: 1.5lb.
W3: 3lb.
W4: 2lb.
W5: 1.5lb
W6: 1.5lb
W7: 2lb
Total loss: 1 stone 3lb

I’ve done 4 x 3.75mg from pen 2 now and have a 5th dose left to twist due to taking less than the full 5mg. I’m deciding whether to test the waters with my next jab and trial 5mg.

OneDayIWillLearn · 05/11/2025 08:12

Weighed in yesterday morning at 12 stone 8.5lbs. That’s about 3lbs off from last week and 7lbs in the last 4 weeks, 16lbs since I started. Pleased because with half term etc I really thought things would have stalled a bit!

I haven’t had the ‘clothes don’t fit me’ thing yet as it was more a case of me bursting out of everything I owned when I started! But I am noticing now clothes are fitting properly again. I was picking out an outfit to wear for a work dinner I gave a talk at yesterday and it was really nice to be able to choose from pretty much anything in my wardrobe, and for the first time in ages I looked in the mirror and thought my clothes looked quite good on me.

I’ve got another big work thing (presenting at a conference) in two weeks time and my target was to be in the lower half of the 12 stone bracket by then, which now seems like it might be possible.

Someone last night was talking about how shocking it was how many people were on weight loss jabs at the dinner last night though which made me a bit 😳. I haven’t really heard anyone say anything negative about them in real life since I started using them. I’m still at a weight where people aren’t necessarily going to notice I’ve lost weight and my weight has yo-yoed a lot over the years anyway so it’ll possibly be a while longer before anyone does. But it made me slightly start to dread if or when anyone does notice and I’m not sure I’ll be able to lie if someone asks me directly about WLI. I’m happy with the decision myself but I don’t really like confrontation!

Bigbus · 05/11/2025 08:33

@Elliebearblues I find that Rennies help and chewing gum if I’m out. Like you, I don’t want to do the the eating little and often that was suggested by my provider - surely the point of this is to stop the constant eating! Nausea has been my main side effect and it’s quite unpleasant but the results for me are good so I’ll keep going. I did find that it eased off when I stayed on the same dose for two months.

Bigbus · 05/11/2025 08:36

@OneDayIWillLearn the negativity towards WLI is a bit unfair I think. I don’t think that naturally skinny people understand what it’s like to have food noise all the time. This is the first time in my life I find I can go hours without thinking about eating. It’s amazing. Also I am still in the obese range despite losing nearly 2 stone. The financial burden on the NHS of obesity is huge so they should be grateful to us!

I know I totally agree!! I’ve tried the diet and exercise route SO many times too. It has been such a revelation the last two months to know what life is like when you are not constantly battling the urge to eat and thoughts about food and weight.

In my case I have a heart valve condition which is known to be exacerbated by being overweight or obese so having a BMI in the 30s was making me much more likely to have issues with it and be costing the NHS. And I have hip joint issues, ditto! Plus obviously storing up other health risks for the future.

I think people who are naturally thin (this woman looked like she probably was in that category) just have no idea.

Absolutely agree with you both. Considering the state of the economy, people should be cheering for us!

I do sort of understand their feelings though. I held off on WLIs for ages because I felt like it was cheating and I should be able to do it myself. What I didn't realise was that of course you're still doing it yourself; the WLIs just give you the mental space from food noise to be able to do it!

I have told my close family but not many people. if anyone asks, I will just tell them I'm eating better and upped my exercise, which are both true too!

bluepaperwaspofbxl · 05/11/2025 09:26

@OneDayIWillLearn Only one person knows about my WLI journey and he started on MJ 2 weeks after us and is loving it. It’s nobody else’s business. My husband has lost 16kg in 7 weeks and looks totally different. He has told his work colleagues who have been cheerleading him all the way and rather jealous of his weight loss. His bloody mother didn’t even say anything when she saw him last weekend and when prompted, she made a comment along the lines of, well last time I saw you, you were huge.
Everyone has to have an opinion, but they don’t have the right to know what you’re doing with you’re life, if you chose not to share.
