I read that substack when it came out and it made so much sense for me. Even now as I’m in maintenance, I’m definitely eating 2000 calories a day and not gaining. And when I ate like this last year I gained and gained and gained. The only time I gain is if I lower the dose below 2.5mg or spread them out. Somehow, with MJ, the calories I consume are not immediately poured into fat cells. I’m actually using them for energy. I can walk up hills and not be out of breath or have my muscles ache. I really do feel like I’m on this for the long-term.

BreezyPeer · 11/11/2025 06:51

Morning 🌄 losers! Xxx

Jins · 11/11/2025 08:36

That substack is interesting. It reminds me that when I was following Atkins very strictly I found similar results. I could easily eat 2000 calories or more without gaining because the calories were coming from the right source. It’s one of the reasons why I don’t count calories and think it’s too simplistic. It’s all about the sugar metabolism for me.

Rainy day here so might finally get a chance to test how waterproof my outdoor oodie is. The novelty of having a coat is still exciting 🤣.

I had a letter and a fine for non insurance of a vehicle from DVLA yesterday. I put temporary insurance on DS1s old car when I took it for an MOT and started the policy at 10am for an appointment at 11. So I’ve got a certificate of insurance and written confirmation of the appointment as evidence for my appeal but part of me is wondering if every MOT given is checked against the insurance database or if it’s a random sample.

Have a great day everyone

HeidiLite · 11/11/2025 08:52

morning all! Early morning sports done and weather is so nice it seems again I have no excuses not to go running later.
Kids have a day off - they are in school in France, so follow French holidays while DH and I work in Switzerland, so we occasionally have different days off. I much prefer the ones where we are off but kids in school 😁

For the substack, I also believe that it really isn't just calories in calories out. And yes people are different. In Why we eat too much book, the author brings the example of people from some Pacific islands - predisposed to hold onto all fat, as their ancestors needed it to survive long ocean crossings. But now of course they are also more likely to rapidly gain weight.
I also read a study where they checked the TDEE of people with same weight and muscle mass, and found up to 700 kcal difference. Can you imagine, one person can eat 700 extra calories? That's a decent meal. Or the other person needs to do an extra 10K run every day to stay the same.

2025istheyeari · 11/11/2025 09:16

Hi everyone!
Thanks for sharing @HeidiLite, super interesting and makes a lot of sense. I’m definitely staying on MJ long term. I’ve got enough to last until March if I use bonus doses but I’m contemplating ordering more while I can.
I've locked in 10 stone 7 today which was my stretch goal 🎉but now considering 10 3 1/2 to make 6 stone. That would be a bmi of 22.4 so slap bang in the middle. I’d still be able to get jabs then wouldn’t I?

Have a great day all, the rain has finally stopped here so I’m off for a stomp and coffee with a friend for some relief from the in laws!!

Thelittlestranger · 11/11/2025 09:38

@2025istheyeari congratulations!! That's a big loss!!

@Jins I loved Atkins. Only diet ever where food noise disappeared. I just didn't fancy eating - sugar addiction kicked, and never felt rubbish after eating. A lot can be taken from that. Stayed slim for a few years, then got pregnant and sick, and ate ALL the food. Could never get back on it...

Last night I fed my cold. I didn't actually eat more than approx 1500 cals, but for a Monday that feels high and it was stodgy. Gnocchi, bit of garlic bread followed by apple crumble. Today I'm going to run that off. @HeidiLite I am the one in your story who has to run 10k to get rid of cals!! Its rainy here, so jealous of your good weather running...

HeidiLite · 11/11/2025 10:22

I agree that low carb helps and weight indeed drops off, but I simply cannot sustain it for a long period of time. It's boring and restrictive, I need my fruit.

But yes, my body clearly also remembers the tough lives of my ancestors. Even when I go running, it goes: oh, need to escape again? But don't you worry, I'll keep you nice and plump like a partridge!

BlueLimes · 11/11/2025 15:14

@2025istheyeari in awe of almost 6 stone ! Hope you enjoyed your time out.

@Thelittlestranger got to feed a cold and I bet your run was good post sone carbs. I need to read the article @HeidiLite linked.

I’ve no idea what I’ll do, I think I’m possibly the slowest loser on here - started at 12.2 on Jan 16th and now 9.4 but still have 7lbs at least to go (I’m small).
Ive been on 15mg since (looks at Shotsy) July 6th. I’ve depressingly lost 9lbs since then (I did gain on holiday). I’ve never had much suppression but do get satiety, which obviously has been enough to lose slowly. I’d like to taper down eventually. I wonder if I can get to goal by Christmas if I tried harder. 🤔 I sadly still
snack… short version, feels like I’ll need long term.

I am running and strength training - feels good despite my crappy results. !

2025istheyeari · 11/11/2025 15:29

Thanks everyone! I had a lot to lose!
@Thelittlestranger sounds like exactly what you needed, I crave carbs when I’m under the weather and you need what you need then. Hope the run felt good.

@BlueLimes, that’s 23% of your weight you’ve lost 🎉and how would you be if you hadn’t started this? Don’t look at anyone else’s numbers, you’re you and you’ve done brilliantly. Statistically you’ll lose less in pounds than me because you had a lot less to start with! Keep up with the running and strength training, up the protein and water and see how you go over the next 2 weeks? You can do it and we’re all right behind you!!

I started running in 2018 but stopped as I hated it and can’t really run outdoors because of my silly eyes but I’m tempted to do c25k again. I also really really need to do strength training ( I keep saying it!). Those are next years goals…

BlueLimes · 11/11/2025 15:52

Excellent maths @2025istheyeari and support 😊

So my v limited thoughts are - get a kettle bell? There are some useful tips on Instagram, also Sally Gunnel posts stuff that is easy to follow.

I was always last in cross country (remember them?!!). But did couch to 5k v v v slowly, took me months (hmmm pattern there !), but now I quite like it. I’d aim small. Cod run in a gym ? Or on you’ve a nice quiet stretch ?

2025istheyeari · 11/11/2025 16:22

@BlueLimesalways here for the support ( and BAC chat!) ! We all have times where things feel tough and you need cheerleaders!

Thanks, yes I need to get myself motivated! I did the whole c25k up and down my drive last time, so that’d be the plan again I think!

HeidiLite · 11/11/2025 16:24

Remember cross country? I have PTSD 😁But yes, dead last here as well. Hated it with passion. Then again I hated PE in general and was hopeless at all of it.
But once I realised I just need to run slower, so I can keep a steady pace and do not need to stop, it was not that bad. DH is a runner so I even did a half marathon one year (really wanted below 2h time and ended disappointingly with 2:00).
I still love weights so much more. Or cardio classes like BodyCombat or Attack.

BlueLimes · 11/11/2025 16:36

Sorry re typos I have new reading glasses too !!

yes start on your drive @2025istheyeari and always hear for the beauty chat. I didn’t buy the spacenk GWP - pleased with myself.

@HeidiLite you are so right, I’ve accepted I’m a slow runner, it’s not so bad. Hated the pe teachers. They were torturers for anyone not adept.

myladyjane · 11/11/2025 16:41

@2025istheyeari re the strength stuff, I tried the peloton app for free at first now paying a mighty 12 quid per month. They have short strength work outs with not shite music. I have accumulated loads of random weights over the years so use them. I am not doing it as much as I should but I am doing it and find it easier than YouTube and cheaper and more convenient than the gym. I still haven’t committed to the running yet as I’m so scared of hurting my knee but am getting closer and closer.

i think i really do need to go back to the drs re my peri stuff. I want to see ‘my’ dr though and I don’t know how long I will have to wait to see her. It just feels a bit too hard to organise tbh (which is why I need to see her ).

I certainly agree with a, not cutting carbs out (I moderate - my ideal is to lowish carb for breakfast and lunch then carbs with dinner but not usually loads).

and b, I was a Celtic warrior woman in a former life and trained to retain ballast.

PenelopesPursuitPrevails · 11/11/2025 18:41

@BlueLimes I'm slow too, also lost 23.odd % of start weight last time I checked, 16st 5 to 12st 8.5 or there abouts. Same % lost.

Solidarity my friend. I am going to go up to 10mg this week, wish me luck.

No exercise planned at all here but I was a county x country champ between 14 and 18! A former life, could have been someone else in all reality.

@myladyjane I might try Peleton again, I did try it with the camera thing but that cost £35 a month or something silly.

A bit bored and cold here, I laid a wreath at an Armistice event this morning and I got really cold, outside for 90 minutes (rain was horizontal), my thermostat has been turned up to 23 degrees for the last four hours and I still feel cold.

myladyjane · 11/11/2025 18:50

@BlueLimes, @PenelopesPursuitPrevails I have lost a slightly bigger percentage (26%) but has proportionally more to lose. But hey ho! We slam.

@PenelopesPursuitPrevails I just did the basic peloton and it’s fine. Dd did one of the Latin cardio dance routines which was highly amusing. Good luck with the 10mg. I crept up there so slowly and have only just started taking the full 10. Did help though.

since posting I did log on and do my econsult and surgery came straight back and I have an appointment in a couple of weeks. Yay me.

Zempy · 11/11/2025 19:12

I think I have lost 38% of my starting weight. Can that be right? It seems very high! I started at 189 pounds and now weigh 117 pounds so I have lost 72 pounds.

I am still stretching out my pens to save money. I will keep doing this until I have to switch to a formal maintenance plan I guess?

BlueLimes · 11/11/2025 19:25

@PenelopesPursuitPrevails @myladyjane yes we’re b amazing - the percentages are really something. That should be our new measuring system.
Although I’d have been scared of @PenelopesPursuitPrevails during the x country.

Im in London tomorrow so dug out my winter coats. Smallest was a 12 and I look like a child dressing up. So off to browse John Lewis.

PenelopesPursuitPrevails · 11/11/2025 19:28

Yes that’s right @Zempy 🏆 fabulous results.

Great news on the appt @myladyjane. I always think the postcode lottery of our NHS is unjust isn’t it. Some wait weeks while others don’t wait.

How much more are you planning on losing @myladyjane ? I’m not planning on losing too much more. My aim was always to be a size 12 in the shops I like on the high st and I’m wearing a slim cut size 14 trouser today so nearly there.

I will give Peleton a go I think (when I stop keeling over of course).

Maybe I should go to 8.75mg @myladyjane , I took more than two pens to get to - full 7.5 due to acid reflux.

meatyryvita · 11/11/2025 19:34

Hi losers. I’m finding the calories in calories out discussion really interesting. Many years ago when I did low carb and lost a lot of weight, there was a guy on twitter (when it wasn’t the cesspool it is now) who tested this theory on himself. He consistently ate 3000 calories per day but of low carb, high protein items and didn’t put any weight on. I’m sure there were finer details that make some sense of it but I recall being fascinated by it.

OP posts:
BlueLimes · 11/11/2025 20:03

Sorry @PenelopesPursuitPrevails i missed the bit about 10mg. Maybe try 8.75 this week and go to 10 next week if need be ??

2025istheyeari · 11/11/2025 20:16

You all rock @myladyjane, @BlueLimes and @PenelopesPursuitPrevails👏👏👏

I hated cross country at school, was always last, in awe of you @PenelopesPursuitPrevails!!

Ooh, I didn’t realise you could use the peloton app without a peloton @myladyjanethanks, I’ll definitely take a look! On my list for Thursday. Glad you got a GP appt and hope it helps.

@PenelopesPursuitPrevailshope you feel better soon, sounds awful, hot bath, hot honey and lemon and fire on kind of night?

@Zempygreat stats!
