Welcome to thread 14!

Link to our last thread here:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5394264-mounjaro-starters-nov-24-thread-13-the-one-where-we-are-lucky-to-end-our-best-summer-in-years-thinner-and-more-comfortable-in-our-own-skin?page=40

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we enter Autumn knowing that ALL of our Winter coats will do up 🥰

Join us here to celebrate NSV’s, weight loss milestones, maintenance and new stone brackets!

I’m on W47 D2 and on w2 of my second titrating down pen of 5.0mg

F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 9st 7.0lbs
GW 9st 0lb

Total loss so far 61.0 lbs (at 9st 6.0)

We recommend the Shotsy app to monitor the amount of MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for managing side effects, exercise tips, tips for maintenance, titrating up or down and we love a wellness/supplements/beauty/ style chat too 🥰

Well done! A lb is a lb! Love the phrase ‘before times’ too 😂

Before Times was a phrase my friendship group used a lot during the covid madness. Usually in those times when we'd be risk assessing meeting in a pub's converted garage for a drink and mandatory scotch egg.
I'm pleased to be able to resurrect it here!

Happy Friday!

Weigh-in day for me, and I’m holding pretty steady at 65.5kg (10 stone 4). That puts my bmi at a fairly comfortable 20.9, which makes me very happy! I’m still on 7.5mg, but my maintenance call is week after next. Which does mean I’ll be titrating down as we approach Christmas - I may need to up my scales monitoring to aid my discipline during the festive season!

Did anyone else watch all the celeb fashion collabs drop yesterday? Bella Freud at M&S, JW Anderson at Uniqlo, and Lorena Saravia at H&M. I can’t say as I found myself pining for any of it particularly, though I liked the burgundy/hot pink colour combo on one of the Freud jumpers. I think I’ve just been over-sloganed in the past few years though - I know Freud’s are the originals, but they’ve been so ubiquitous even hers now feel a bit derivative, you know?

The Lorena Saravia collection is fun and I like the drama of it, but the only things I can see myself actually wearing are the wrap and the suede clutch.

Thank you, had a little look! Loved a couple of items on first look, though thought 'this is a bit much for H&M'.

Like this dress, and pre weight loss me would have never worn white... https://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1294566001.html

However, had a closer look at materials and it's all polyester! £279 for a microplastic shedding fossil frock? Meanwhile H&M reports increased profits... Hmmm yeah no wonder if you sell cheap materials for cashmere prices.

I really wish designers doing these collabs would put their foot down and say, 'if I'm going to work with you, certain standards need to be met'. But that's not how commercial fashion works, unfortunately...

Happy Friday!

Good morning everyone. My weigh in:

SW: 16 stone 7lbs
CW: 11 stone 0.4lbs
Initial GW: 11 stone ish
Stretch GW: 10 stone 7lbs (do I rethink this?)

Well, somehow, it looks like I’ve more or less achieved my first goal weight! 😱 There is a whisker / 0.4lb between me and the perfect 11 stone (drat) but I’m pleased with the progress this week (3lb loss).

Also, what I do have to celebrate, is that my BMI is now finally green (just!) at 24.9! I’ve made it into the ‘healthy weight’ crew 🤣

That is 33% off my body weight since I started on MJ. My body fat percentage is still high and I do think I have some way to go still, but it’s lovely to see the evidence on the scales.

Amazing, well done!!

Body fat was the last thing for me to go 'green' also. It's probably still a little high considering how low my weight now is, but within healthy range. What strategies are you using to proportionally decrease body fat without losing muscle?

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 17/10/2025 11:50

I agree @PinkArt In my friendship groups there are a few like that. One actually invited me out last week for coffee and it transpired her express purpose was to get me to admit to weight loss jabs. But, dear readers, I didn’t cave in once, oh no I showed no weakness. I droned on about Micheal Mosley who I bored on a lot about last October. Then moved onto my step count, Pilates and now jogging. Also how no longer working means I am not stress eating and sleeping better blah blah blah. I got away with an interrogation that could have come out of a gestapo training manual, honestly at one point I think she was considering water boarding me especially when another friend turned up by ‘surprise’ to join in. The funny thing being that the ambush friend was the one who I spotted the Oushk puffin packaging at her home in the summer 😂😂

Anyway the lead interrogator was concerned that in her mid-fifties she is now having to wear a size 12 and was doing her best to stop size 14 happening. I munched a biscuit (very rare these days) to stop myself saying that I have gone from a size 22/20 to a more than comfortable 12 with a potential 10 hopefully in the next few months. I tried the obesity is a disease approach with her but she responded that I was clearly eating too much and my weight loss progress proved it 😂. Ambush friend said that WLIs are so expensive and how she is amazed anyone can afford them.

Got home and told DH about the encounter. His lips are sealed. He is a good secret keeper.

Oh my, this made me laugh so much!!! I kinda wish you'd write a short story out of it!!

Why are people so obsessed with knowing someone else's medical history? Since when is this kind of prying called 'friendship'?

There's a couple of really big girls at work (probably size 30+) that are shrinking before my eyes. They're probably on the same meds as me. Would I ever ask them or care? Hello no, I'm glad people are getting healthier, their mental health is improving, and medication is now available for that. And also that the taxpayer's NHS budget burden will hopefully decrease a little, even though we are self-funding this. I had creeping health problems and at least one condition that made life quite rough day to day that was obesity/PCOS related, and now I have none. I hope the same for other people, no matter how they achieve it. Everyne deserves a full, happy, healthy life.

Would people really prefer others lose weight eating 200 calories a day and exercising while wrapped in plastic?

MontyJinks · 17/10/2025 12:54

Oh I've found the PERFECT response to those judgy naysayers/friends who offer mock concern...... (not the ones who genuinely comment from a nice pleased point of view, you know the ones I mean) 🙄

"OMG, you've lost SO MUCH weight, you're shrinking, you're tiny etc".......

Response: "yes you're right, I used to be SO FAT"

  • then just stop talking, leaving the word 'fat' lingering in the air
  • enjoy watching them squirm whilst furiously backtracking

Mwah hahahaha

Thank you, for some reason I forgot I could count the clicks and was only considering what I could draw up in a needle 😂

😂- I'm the same as now so used to using a separate syringe, I almost prefer to do that and not use the pen as intended. 0.45ml it is then!

That is an excellent question. I’m looking to incorporate more resistance training to build muscle but aware that’s probably not going to necessarily do much for the flab. I think I need to consider introducing more cardio type activities. I’m not an exercise fan in general (except for reformer Pilates, even then that can be a struggle at times!) so need to think about what is realistic! Maybe if I just do more walking (including up and down hills, I live at the edge of the Peak District in a hilly town so no real excuses there!) to start and take it from there. I got my walking pad which has an incline option so I need to get better at actually using it!

For me what seemed to work best was increasing my protein, and really reducing fat in my diet. I still have some, but from things like avocado, full fat yoghurt etc. I still have work to do on that front though, would love areas like bottom and thighs to looked more ripped and muscular, and my overall muscle to fat ratio to improve. Right now I look like someone who is quite thin and occasionally works out, which is about what I deserve as that's my lifestyle!

So perhaps become a gym bunny is not essential, and nutrient tweaks in diet can help instead? What's everyone else's experience with body recomposition efforts?

Peak District hikes sound fabulous! Wrap up warm, it's a lovely way to socialise as well though 😊

I like that response. I shall use that if the interrogator mentions anything again.

Caplin · 17/10/2025 16:38

Hello all, some great wins this week!!! Amazing to think we are almost a year into this journey!!!

I had a NSV today. After months of plateau (although I think I was still shrinking even if the scale wasn’t moving) I finally started losing again three weeks ago, another 1lb off today. So I tried on my target jeans, which I do every now and then. Well…THEY ONLY FLIPPING FIT!!!! Last time I wore them was pre children over 16 years ago! They are French Connection and a size 16, but deffo smaller than every other size 16 I currently own. I actually feel I could each a size 14 soon if I lose another half stone, so need to pause my Vinted buying!

I’m going to try and add another gym session each week. I do two strength sessions with a PT at the moment plus dog walking. I’m averaging about 2k more steps a day average from this time last year.

Also had a hydra facial today and my therapist said my skin was looking the best it has ever looked!!! Maybe that collagen is working after all!!!!

Thank you for the tips, that is really helpful.

At my heaviest ever I was over 20 stone so my body has been so used to carrying a lot of extra fat, I guess it’s natural there’ll be a lot still to shift. My scales are happy with my visceral fat at least.

random223 · 17/10/2025 20:36

Checking in with a pound off this week:
SW: 14st
CW: 9 st 10
GW: 9 st 7 (BMI: 23)

I have three weeks to my MJ-versary and 3 lbs to go! Not done brilliantly exercise or eating wise this week but not been feeling too well so am cutting myself some slack.

Well done everyone - especially @Goldleafcat on a healthy BMI!!!

Cantbesure · 17/10/2025 20:55

Thanks to @Mounjaropenfor the Tesco cardi recommendation. I got a little burgundy cardigan with gold buttons and a fake suede skirt for under £20 in an xs and a 6!!! No one was more surprised than me that the skirt fitted.

today is 17 weeks off MJ. I’m at the top end of my range this week but birthday celebrations etc are in flow. I feel I can bring it back into line when they are over.

I just said I hadn’t noticed (I hadn’t. I’m not very observant) and good for him for looking after himself and his health. I’m sure she wanted me to join in being judgey.

Oooh. I feel the same about the Bella Freud collection - doesn’t feel fresh, and I have an aversion to random slogans eg Dance. However, hadn’t seen the H&M Lorena Saravia collection and I absolutely adore the chaps jeans. Sadly sold out in every size but I would have been sorely tempted.

Just had my eyes tested and I need my first pair of varifocals, boo! But have gone for an extremely awesome pair of bright pink Kylie frames, yay! I might have to get a second slightly more sober pair because hot pink won’t go with everything, but oh my god they were just the best glasses I’ve ever tried on. I’m not normally a pink wearer but they were streets ahead of everything else I tried.

I'd be tempted by the Bella Freud jumpers if they were cheapy acrylic jobs, but they've all got wool or cashmere in and I'm allergic. That allergy is why I look rather fancy in faux fur all winter though, as I can't do A Well Cut wool coat!

Well good morning fellow death jabbers… a new variant on ‘omg/you look well’ blah blah blah… yesterday I was told by my lunch partner that ‘I looked like the reveal on a house renovation show….you know, when they’ve finished it and it looks fabulous’ 🫤
as if that wasn’t bad enough she went on to say, ‘I’m so glad I got to see the before’

Dear reader, it was so blunt that I burst out laughing. She is one of those friends that means well but has no filter bless her. Plus she’d tucked into the fizzy wine before I’d arrived so that probably didn’t help. On the upside, the food was fabulous (it’s a new restaurant opening next week and we were at the soft launch which meant every dish was 50% off) and then I ended up meeting DH afterwards for more completely unnecessary drinks for which I’m paying the price this morning…!

I love a fake fur. I have a rather fab number in bright blue from the Jakke brand which the family calls my Sully coat 😂

I think the Bella Freud slogan jumpers are the sort you can only really wear once in company because they are so distinctive. I have a Marcus lupfer jumper (the lips one) which is similar for that reason.

I must admit I'm always glad when someone says I look fab and I've lost loads of weight. It's cost me ££££ to be healthy so it's a bonus return on the investment 😂
