I wondered if anyone is coming off Mounjaro completely and looking to maintain or continue losing weight?

I'm half way through my last pen and coming off earlier than planned due to the price rise and fatigue with the whole process.

I’m struggling, won’t be taking 3mg this week. Going to take 2mg and maybe on day 9 rather than day 7.

Ive been chatting with ChatGPT about my chance of keeping the weight off, and best tactics for doing so.

@tootiredtobeinspired you're right, logically I know it can't be 2Ibs of fat but unfortunately years of yoyo dieting and valuing myself more when I'm thinner means that what the scales say do mess with my head so much! It feels so scary to be stopping doesn't it especially when you feel that you've found something that finally works.

@MJ122025 I usually weigh weekly but I think because of feeling anxious about coming off, had been weighing in the evening every day and seeing the number going up each day sent me into a bit of a tailspin. I am going to stop now and try weighing at the end of the week and as you say yet to build a picture of fluctuations, I hate myself for being so preoccupied with the number and that is such a good idea about switching to Ibs or Kgs because I have such mental rigidity around a certain stone bracket!

MiceAsPie · 08/09/2025 22:39

@SecretNameforMN with a bmi of 78, you really really need to give MJ a proper go. Sorry but that’s all I can say really. Keto or IF will categorically not work for you. There are numerous studies out there that indicate that once a person goes over a certain BMI, significant weight loss is pretty much impossible due to many factors relating to hormones / insulin resistance etc etc . I find the astonishing you took one dose and then just went ‘ nah, won’t bother.’ It’s baffling

Nunenco · 09/09/2025 21:26

Have not taken MJ for almost 2 weeks now and lost 3.5 pounds since stopping. I’m being really disciplined and keep reminding myself how good it is not to feel nauseous. I’m weighing every 3 days and if tge weight starts going the wrong way I’ll try Wegovy but so far so good.

RightImDoingThis · 09/09/2025 22:07

That’s very inspiring! Thank you for sharing. How did you come off the jabs?

FknOmniShambles · 10/09/2025 08:22

Can I join the thread? I started mj in January and thrived on it. Lost six stone and felt incredible.
As a result of the price hikes, I've decided to stop taking it and rely in the good habits and calorie counting. Fuck me though. The hunger has returned with a vengeance. And the constant thinking about food. I'm quite upset about it - it's been such a pleasant change to not constantly have food on the mind and not feel hungry, and resentful.
I'm determined to keep up the journey though - I want to lose another five stone, but I feel gutted, as if I experienced a brief taste of normality and now lost it 😭😭

RightImDoingThis · 10/09/2025 08:54

Welcome @FknOmniShambles (good username!).

I just keep thinking- others have done it, so can we!

@FknOmniShambles I really feel for you and I'm in a similar boat, it's awful to find something that works for you and then not be able to carry on with it. The food noise is horrible isn't it

I just stopped taking them. I haven’t tapered the dose down. Went from 7.5 to nothing with no issues. Can’t say that the food noise is worse than on MJ days when I wasn’t too sick to eat.

RightImDoingThis · 10/09/2025 10:45

Thank you @Nunenco because I’m on a small holiday next week and am seriously considering not taking any more jabs.

OP posts:
Nunenco · 10/09/2025 10:53

Enjoy your holiday. If it werE me I’d enjoy myself and re-asses the situation when you get back. Personally every time I want to eat I remind myself what it is like to deal with the nausea and see the money come out of my account each month. So far that seems to work. When it no longer does I may try W. Would like to lose another 1.5 stone by Christmas

RightImDoingThis · 10/09/2025 11:54

Thank you, the idea of not being on the jabs is very heartening!

OP posts:
RightImDoingThis · 10/09/2025 18:59

Shotsy estimates my levels at 2.81. Bit apprehensive about coming off with a mini break right on the horizon but here goes…

OP posts:
Loopylou7219 · 11/09/2025 08:13

Well...official weight does seem to be just under 3Ibs up from my last weigh in after stopping. Could be a normal fluctuation, could be a normal adjustment to stopping. Feels really disheartening though since I've tracked, weighed and exercised for the last two weeks. So reminiscent of the hopelessness of feeling your body just isn't working properly. Panic ordered some wegovy last night and will see if I can shift the last stone. @RightImDoingThis let us know how you get on off of MJ, sounds like you'll be glad not to have the side effects. I have to say actually, apart from being annoyed about weight gain, I feel I'm sleeping much better since being off. Although did anyone else continue to suffer with constipation even after coming off?

RightImDoingThis · 11/09/2025 13:53

@Loopylou7219 i hope you’re feeling ok Flowers Would you remind us how long you’ve been off the jabs?

TMI Warning, but in response to your comment I’ve just started on the psyllium husk as I seem to have developed a small bump at my bum. Not sure if caused by constipation or weightlifting ☹️. Feel very embarrassed but cream seems to be cured the discomfort in a few days.

I will definitely keep updating @Loopylou7219 but I oscillate between enthusiasm in overcoming the statistics and creeping doubt and despair!

OP posts:
Loopylou7219 · 11/09/2025 15:59

@RightImDoingThis Thank you, keep reminding myself there is absolutely more to life than how much you weigh.

Ouch that sounds painful! You poor thing I hope you can get that sorted is it a pile do you think? So glamorous being a woman isn't it 🫠.

I can't remember the exact date of my last injection (unhelpful) but I think it was around 18th August, and this fluctuation has only happened in the last week so perhaps a natural fluctuation or the MJ leaving my system 🤷🏼‍♀️.

I heard someone else mention psyllium husk, have you found it useful? Have been taking Senecot as and when needed but don't feel like they're for long term use. Best of luck!

Fedupoftheshits · 11/09/2025 16:45

Am I ok to join? I’m on my last pen and have pretty reached my goal of losing two stone. I can’t afford to continue with the price increases so have paused my treatment with my provider.

once I finish this pen, I’m hoping that I’ll be able to maintain what I’ve lost as I have changed my eating habits but have no clue how hard the food noise will return!

I think I may find the winter a challenge as I used to love stodgy comfort food

taylorswift1989 · 11/09/2025 18:26

I'm determined to keep up the journey though - I want to lose another five stone, but I feel gutted, as if I experienced a brief taste of normality and now lost it

This is what I'm scared of - the hunger, the urge to binge coming back. But I'm trying to think of MJ as having just been a holiday from all that. A chance to have a rest and some peace. And maybe in a few months time, I'll have another short rest from it!

I suspect the drugs that we have now are only the beginning. Eli Lilly say they are wanting to make a 'one and done' obesity treatment that will cure obesity with one dose. There's going to be a tablet form of tirzepitide in 2026. Ozempic patents run out soon. And there are many more WL drugs in development and testing. I would love to think I will never need any more WL drugs once I've come off MJ but the fact is that I might well go back on it for a short time, maybe a couple of times, if I need support. I might well be tempted to take a tablet if that works. I'm not sure about the 'one and done' treatment - how can they possibly know that it cures obesity forever? But I'm very interested. I think these medicines are a game changer and just because they're out of reach at the moment, doesn't mean we won't have access to them in the coming years.

My plan is to keep losing weight or even just maintaining my existing loss, work on my strength and fitness, and keep an eye out for accessible WL drugs in the near future.

I've been thinking along similar lines today.

Well I've just come back from the gym, so that's a good start! :) Never been a gym goer, ever, and I was scared to go in for the first time with all the machines and fit people, but it was fine. It was quite busy though. Might have to start going super early so there's a bit more space.

RightImDoingThis · 12/09/2025 12:54

Super early will be much busier 😁. Check google for the quiet times but I love a Friday, Saturday or Sunday teatime for peace and quiet. 2pm-ish too.

I have walked in to work today which takes about 50 minutes. Gym in the morning. I know weightloss is 90% diet but I think exercise keeps me motivated and body positive.

OP posts:
taylorswift1989 · 12/09/2025 13:52

Will it be busier earlier? Damn. It seems to be busy most of the time, to be fair. I probably just need to find the times that work for me and put up with the crowds! Mid-afternoon is probably a good call, though.

LollyWillow · 12/09/2025 18:26

Can I join you?
I started MJ in February and have lost about 2 stone but, to be honest, the first 1.5 was before mid June. My weight loss over the last three months has been slow to non-existent.
I've been thinking about this a lot and keeping a detailed food diary to check what I am actually eating. I think the issue is that MJ has completely destroyed my interest in food to the extent that I really can't be bothered to plan meals or eat healthily. I just wait until I am starving and then eat a carb heavy meal because I need something quick and filling. My diet is considerably worse now than it was at the beginning of the year.
I have wondered whether the best option would be to reduce the dose and see if I can find the pre July sweet spot when I was eating well and losing weight but I think it might be better for me to just go cold turkey.
In truth, I have been fighting a low mood and low energy levels since starting back in February and I think the MJ is contributing to this. I need to find out one way or another. The really telling thing for me is that I have a 10mg pen upstairs with 3 doses left ... and I just don't want to take them. I am a great believer in listening to your body and my body is saying 'no'.
I lost 2 stone before starting MJ, so I know I can do it. My plan is to move more, start using the very expensive gym that I pay membership for and try to stick to 1,250 - 1,400 calories a day.
I might even use my MJ 'savings' to pay for a personal trainer for a month or two - if I can pluck up the courage!
I still have 3 stone to lose. That will get me to the weight I was in my mid 20s. Still heavy, but healthy and active.

Nunenco · 12/09/2025 19:22

@LollyWillow I was in the same boat. Lost a stone really quickly on MJ and then it come off slowly and made me to ill to eat. if I wasn’t to nauseous to eat then the food suppression wasn’t great. In the end it took it as my body saying NO and the price increase cemented my decision to stop. I has two doses left of a 7.5 pen which went in the bin. I’m still losing about 1.5 -2 pounds a week and will go with that for as long as it lasts. I’m getting on the scales twice a week if the weight starts creeping back on I may try Wegovy. I keep telling myself that if o fall off the wagon I may have to deal with those awful side effects again and that seems to work for now.

RightImDoingThis · 13/09/2025 17:55

Day 9 post jab, blood levels estimated at 2.05mg, and 1lb down. Feels like a good start.
