When I started on monjroro my BMI was 54.2
Today it is 37.9
That is an 8 stone loss
So I've still a good way to go

Wow, you've done so well!

It also explains (I think) why your weight loss has slowed down. All of us who have lost a lot have noticed that we're losing much more slowly now.

Have you tried a bigger needle yet?

OP posts:
TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 04/09/2025 11:48

Taking of longer needles - I used a 2.5cm one last time, which is much longer than the usual ones, and it made no difference to how I felt, nor to my rate of loss.

I am not convinced that those of us with a very thick fat layer on our bodies will get better results by jabbing more deeply. This is only based on a sample of one, though. 🤣

However, someone upthread did try it, and it did make a difference, so..........
I can't remember who it was. I've looked back but I'm none the wiser.

I’m going to my brother’s wedding on Saturday and I tried my dress on- it’s an old one I last wore to a wedding two years ago- and it was way too big. I looked RIDICULOUS. So last night I rushed out to Tesco and found a dress in the sale. It was a size 22 and I thought no way but I’ll try it. And it fits!! It’s loose and flow-ey but it has a tight fitting satin dress underneath which I was worried about. But it fits perfectly.

I’ve never been able to shop in supermarkets before. And I genuinely am unable to see changes when I look at my body naked, I find it upsetting, but the facts speak for themselves- old dress doesn’t fit anymore- new dress does. 🥹

Oh wow! You look stunning 😍, that colour is beautiful. The facts definitely speak for themselves

Iwouldratherbesinging · 04/09/2025 12:00

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne I think that was me, I definitely notice a difference with a longer 8mm needle, I’ll happily be the sample of one 😂. Can’t comment on nausea or anything though as I’ve never suffered, but definitely feel a difference with suppression and getting full quickly at meal times, unless it is all down to natural variation week on week. I googled this a while ago and there’s zero scientific evidence…

Onenotsosmallstep · 04/09/2025 12:01

@PearlsPearl you look absolutely stunning. What a gorgeous dress, definitely doesn’t look like a supermarket purchase!

Agree with everyone else ‘you look well’ is a polite ‘you look thinner and thin=good’. At over 5 stone down and 40% of the way to healthy BMI, I’m also getting lots of you’ve lost weight comments but bizarrely only at work do people feel the need to ask exactly how much. I work in a different region about 50 miles from where I live though, I wonder if that’s got something to do with it?! Anyway due to shame about my starting weight I’m knocking a good third off when I feel pressed to answer so currently saying ‘about 3 stone with a few more to go’. Even to my partner. This thread is the only place I can be honest about start weight and weight loss without feeling like a hideous pig monster.

Dontjumptoconclusions · 04/09/2025 12:03

@eibbed999 @WafflingDreamer I'm 5'9 and at my largest I was a size 28 and 23 stone. I also carry the weight well, the good news is that if I gain a stone, it's not noticeable, the bad news is that if I lose a stone, it's also not noticeable!

If anyone asks about my weight loss I think I will just fib saying I've lost 2 stone, because honestly, I have never felt more fat than when I said I lost 4 stone and I got such a shocked response that it's put me off saying anything. Especially since people won't believe what I weighed.

I think there is a stereotype that people who are 20+ stone are absolute blobs, unable to move/walk/stand up. So when we are here still living our very normal lives (albeit slightly uncomfortably), it's surprising.

It might be quite common to ask about how much people have lost /how many dress sizes. Just like here, when we say we have lost x amount, many people follow up with 'how long did it take?'.

That's so interesting.

So we now have a sample of two.

50% of our sample found a marked difference.

50% of our sample did not.

Has anyone else tried a longer needle, so that we can expand our research a little?

I thought it made a difference the first two days after as I was feeling sick
But then today ,I'm not so sure
But I'm going to keep up with the longer needle permanently as it makes sense to me that it needs to go further in ,on a bigger body

Well. When I recently went to London to visit my older children, I hadn't seen my daughter for many months.
She commented that I was much better able to get up out of a chair.

My son also said that I was walking normally and quickly, in comparison to having to stop to get my breath all the time, two years ago.

I honestly don't think it makes anatomical sense, though. It doesn't matter where you jab - abdomen, thigh or arm, it's all the same.

Subcutaneous injections just have to go into the fat layer. And goodness knows, we have plenty of that. I am truly not convinced that the depth of the injection can possibly make a difference to the efficacy of the medication.

It didn't stop me trying it, though - and I'm very willing to be proved wrong.

Autumnflowers2 · 04/09/2025 12:22

Actually...
I'm sitting here thinking about how I feel after jabbing this week
And how I've been during August ( felt mj stopped working)
I feel it's working again,
Food noise completely gone ,feel in control,I was on holiday in August and really struggling with wanting foods I wouldn't of wanted normally on monjroro.
So ..yeah after 3 days of jabbing deeper ,I do feel completely in control of my food ...I'm definitely sticking with longer needles

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 04/09/2025 12:23

Okay, that's again really interesting @Autumnflowers2

I'm going to try it again tomorrow when my injection is due, and see how things go.

I have a longer needle when I’m extracting the extra and can’t think whether it’s made a difference…

UsernameShmusername2024 · 04/09/2025 12:45

@PearlsPearl Love that dress and you look fantastic! Enjoy the wedding!

@Autumnflowers2 Absolutely hate people commenting on my weight loss. So far on MJ though no-one has despite me losing almost 6 stone. I expect people are too polite (thankfully!) because even I can tell it's noticeable now. I used to hate the slimming world leader announcing my weekly and overall weight loss to the group - everyone was very congratulatory but I found it mortifying because I'd lost a lot but was still morbidly obese and it really just highlighted how heavy I must have been to start with. If anyone does eventually say anything this time I'm definitely not going to disclose the actual figure, will be mumbling something vague and changing the subject!

My needles for extracting are 8mm, I checked this morning. I'll be using the syringes rather than the pen for the next 2 or 3 weeks, so I'll report back! I have been struggling recently with food noise, and this seems like a lucky coincidence. I'll let you know!

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/09/2025 12:58

Iwouldratherbesinging · 03/09/2025 22:29

@PearlsPearl @Autumnflowers2 @Dontjumptoconclusions I always get stronger suppression when I take the 5th dose from a pen and use a longer needle, I’m tempted to buy some longer needle caps for the pen to see if it’s just a coincidence

Possibly as the 5th dose is usually more then the pen and it’s a bridging up step to next strength

usually over .6 in there

Dontjumptoconclusions · 04/09/2025 13:05

The needle length discussion is facinating and I have promptly gone in search of some actual clinical studies discussing this. The first 2 say no, the last says yes...so who knows!

Nontraditional Considerations With Insulin Needle Length Selection

Shorter needles give ‘better results’ for the obese

Obese patients achieved a favourable, numerically superior glycemic reduction with 6 mm needle vs 4mm

eibbed999 · 04/09/2025 13:06

'Hideous pig monster' - that made me snort (oink??) out loud @Onenotsosmallstep. We all get it! But as I sit here reading how embarrassed and ashamed many of us are, it makes me both sad and angry - it's not like we steal from grannies or kick puppies or anything! There are far worse things to be in this cruel, messy world than fat - but for all the complicated reasons around it, the shame and the judgement - both from ourselves and from others - is still so strong.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/09/2025 13:09

Iwouldratherbesinging · 03/09/2025 22:31

I’ve got rid of everything that no longer fits me, I am not going back there…. Ever! I do regret not keeping one item of clothing though, just to remind myself of how far I’ve come

I’ve kept a pair of size 20 Jeans

maybe buy a pair of Vinted of your largest size to keep in Memory and incentive

I lost 5 stone before anyone commented @TragicMuse !!

And I was 4s which was around Xmas and took my coat off and people were wow

same after Easter and started to wear more revealing summer clothes so many mums at school has said wow you look amazing

I don’t mind saying my start weight when asked. They all say but you didn’t look that big and I said well I obv was as have lost almost 7s so …….
Ps @PearlsPearl dress is really nice. Do they do other colours ?

Lds1 · 04/09/2025 13:49

I don't think anyone has ever asked what my start weight was (although I wouldn't have told them) and no one has asked for a while how much I've lost. I don't think I'd say in stone now as some people probably weigh near what I've lost now!

Dontjumptoconclusions · 04/09/2025 13:54

@PearlsPearl that dress is gorgeous!!! Links to the dress please.
Are you now mumsnet fashion influencer... 😃

eibbed999 · 04/09/2025 14:23

My pen just arrived from e surgery and I'm pretty pissed off. The postman handed it to me soggy and dripping - the ice packs had melted and weren't contained in anything waterproof, like the shiny silver packs Medino always use. Even worse, the box that contains the pen was wide open - the perforated seal was completely un-sealed! It's probably ok, but it's also not a great indicator of patient safety. It kind of screams not giving a shit really. I took pics of everything and sent them a strongly worded email asking for a replacement or I'll move it to an official complaint with an external body (couldn't remember the name, but I know there is one that regulates pharmacy prescription practices). I'm so bloody annoyed after waiting this long. I'll probably never even hear back!

TragicMuse · 04/09/2025 15:07

Oh my god. 😳

I could deal with soggy. But not unsealed. It’s medication FFS, not a lipsyl. That’s just very poor.
