Anybody else planning to start in September?

I’ve been procrastinating for months but decided to go for it despite the price increases. Waiting for my delivery from Medexpress and planning on 1st Sept start.

Has anyone calculated their calorie allowance? If not, I think you will be surprised how many calories you could eat to lose weight.

Because not eating enough calories can stall weight loss, cause hair loss and long term cause your metabolism to slow down.

Here is a website that is easy to use:
https://www.calculator.net/

I used a more detailed calculator, which calculated a calorie allowance slightly more than the result the above website calculated for extreme weight loss.

I'm using MyFitnessPal to log food, just so I can get used to portion sizes for carbs - because I'm insulin resistant and have recently just crossed the threshold from pre to full diabetes. I used it 12 years ago when I lost 50lbs in 6 months on a very low calorie diet... 6 months later I had 100 gallstones and had to have my gallbladder removed. So... yeah... losing weight too quickly definitely causes gallbladder problems.

I thought I did well today food wise, 122g protein (40g left) and 217 calories remaining.

Got my first delivery of mounjaro yesterday from juniper and will be doing the first injection tomorrow 1st Sept. Pretty nervous about it all, especially the actual mechanics of getting the pen ready, priming etc. Also worried about side effect as I have a busy week ahead but don't want to put off starting as there will always be some reason or other to delay!

Thats good, I'm really trying to reach a higher protein intake today. Really hard when I'm so fussy 😅 planned my food for the day and calorie intake is 1116 and protein is sitting at 92.5g. The calculator is really helpful, im just below the 1221 calories is says i should be eating for weight loss.
Not convinced i have any side effects yet, don't even think i have suppression! I'm still thinking about food 😅

I watched a really helpful video on tik tok and followed along as she explained. I didn't even have tik tok but downloaded it just to watch 😅

I did my first injection on Friday night and I've had no side effects so far that I can pin point to mounjaro. I've felt tired and a bit achey but that could be anything.

Chopsy123 · 31/08/2025 10:18

I’ve rejoined Nutracheck as I’ve used the App before and found it really good for tracking calories and it will track the proteins, carbs etc. and their barcode scanner is excellent. They also have lots of good recipes on the site too.

MoreIcedLattePlease · 31/08/2025 10:24

@Jackrabbit22 well done, you! I highly recommend the Juniper app. If you go to the ‘explore’ tab, and then ‘treatment,’ there is an excellent video by one of their pharmacists showing exactly how to inject, step by step. I followed it the first and second time (though less intensely the second) and found it so helpful. You can’t go wrong provided you follow the steps. I paused the video where needed, etc.

@WhiteAmaryllis so pleased you’ve found side effects minimal too! Like you, I was terrified of having them at work. No running to the toilet when you’re surrounded by 12 year olds! Are you ready for tomorrow? I’m not! Confused

I think my biggest ‘worry’ now is what to eat at work! I’m terrible for taking a huge lunch and eating it all in one go. I need to amend my snack choices and be careful in planning, I think. I will probably make a big batch of pasta salad for DH and I for the start of the week, then look at crustless quiche/protein bagels or something for the second half as DH works from home and it’s just me to pack for.

Happy Sunday to all!

MoreIcedLattePlease · 31/08/2025 10:26

Oh, I forgot. @maz99 is absolutely right about calories. I’ve calculated my TDEE and set myself 1500 a day as a goal. I’d rather not go lower yet as I have a lot to lose and I’d like some room to reduce later if necessary. I must say, I’m finding it difficult to eat anywhere near that much on day 2-3 after jabbing though! Perhaps a roast dinner tonight will help…

outofofficeagain · 31/08/2025 10:30

My original plan was to start tomorrow but thought I might do today instead. So, I came downstairs to do my jab and my friend has just delivered a beautiful afternoon tea for two set as a late birthday present. I would very much like to enjoy it.

I’ve decided (not procrastinating honest) that I’m going to spend the day cleaning the house, shopping and meal prepping, enjoy my afternoon tea and do it in the morning as was my original plan.

I started on Friday. No side effects that I've noted, but was hungry for lunch today and yesterday (I didn't have breakfast today).

However, for the first time I've felt the positive effects of the Wygovy kick in. I was starving, so made a lovely bibimbap for lunch (2oz brown rice uncooked weight), en egg, some chicken and a combination of veg. Total calorie count including any cooking oil, 720 (just over half my daily allowance).

Less than 2/3 of the way through I felt the 'full' signals. I've been warned ahead of time that when you get these, stop eating otherwise you'll make yourself feel really uncomfortable. So I saved the rest to have as a side to dinner.

The 'old' me of a week ago would probably have hoovered the lot. Regulating food intake and stopping when full has never been a skill I've mastered particularly well. I see that as progress!

Chopsy123 · 31/08/2025 12:25

I struggled to eat breakfast today. 😩

Usually on a Sunday, I cook danish parties from frozen and we have one each with a coffee and juice. I managed the juice and about a fifth of my pastry but it was like eating cotton wool. Normally, I eat mine quite quickly and really fancy another one, so try not to snack on anything else.

It’s day 3 and has been a huge struggle to eat enough calories so far. I wonder how this will continue? I’m not actively trying to eat less (!) but just can’t physically contemplate it. 😱

Justanotherdramalama · 31/08/2025 13:12

@Ihateslugs good luck with your application. It only took me a few days from applying to collection.

I've been using Nutracheck since the start of the year, it's a really good app. Love the scanner. So my calories are already worked out @maz99

I've got myself into a bit of a nervous dilemma whether to take the injection today or tomorrow. My anxiety is spiralling a little bit which is crazy because I've tried wli in the past.

I wish I could say the same! I don't feel like i can feel any suppression. Ate 3 meals yesterday and had breakfast thia morning, hopefully it kicks in soon 😅

I’m just starting today so feeling a bit apprehensive. If you don’t mind me asking, what are the “full signals”
Concerned I might miss them 🙈

SnowWhiteisMyFavourite · 31/08/2025 13:45

I will join the September starters. I took my first injection (2.5mg) on Saturday morning, no side effects so far but didn’t feel any different re hunger/food either yesterday. Woke up this morning and didn’t feel hungry at all, managed to have 2/3 of my normal breakfast porridge so it might be working 😄 I started feeling a bit hungry ahead of lunch.

I need to lose lot of weight, BMI over 40 at the moment, first target is 3st, don’t want to think too far ahead. Good luck everyone!

MoreIcedLattePlease · 31/08/2025 13:56

@Justanotherdramalama You've got this!! I've heard that if you've tried before, it can take longer/higher doses to feel the effects, because your body has experienced GLP1s before. Not sure how true that is, but something to bear in mind if you don't feel it straight away.

Welcome, @SnowWhiteisMyFavourite! It's lovely to have you. My BMI is also over 40 and I have a lot of weight to lose. At least 8 stone to be a healthy BMI weight, which I don't think I've been since I was about 17!

@SerafinasGoose sounds like it's going very well for you! It's lovely to hear a success story.

@spidermum18 I think 'full signals' may differ for everyone. For me, it feels like there's a lump in my throat, almost like indigestion.

DH made our usual Sunday bacon sandwiches this morning (calorie friendly, oddly enough) and I really struggled to eat all of it. DDog was loving this new development! Grin I'm still feeling very full now. We are having roast pork for dinner, so I'm going to skip lunch and just have that.

Hope those of us in education can make it through this week without too many side effects, or too much temptation!

Justanotherdramalama · 31/08/2025 14:26

@SnowWhiteisMyFavourite welcome and sounds like things are starting to work for you.

@MoreIcedLattePlease I've not heard that before thanks will keep it in mind. Thanks for the support waiting on dh getting home then might take it as don't want to take it alone. I have no idea why 🤣

Just as soon as you start to feel full. For me, it's simply the feeling of a full stomach.

Often this didn't happen for me until after I'd finished eating. I'm trying to slow down the speed at which I eat. I have a lot of bad habits to change here - and know that unless I do that I stand little chance of keeping off any weight I lose. What brought me here was sugar addiction/cravings, and bingeing. Those habits have to be nixed, and I view WLI as a support tool for doing that. I don't want to live any more of my life overweight and addicted to food.

@MoreIcedLattePlease - it's very very early days ofc. There are going to be blips and plateaus, and these more than anything are what have caused me to give up in the past. But this time there's a certain reassurance that comes from the obvious success story of WLI - and knowing/hoping this isn't going to be one of my many failed attempts.

Yes to this! Good luck, teachers.

My teaching semester begins the 3rd week in September, and that will be a real test. My workplace does have a good salad bar, though!

Definitely - good luck. The switch in pace will be crazy, but hopefully being busy combined with WLI will mean less focus on food.

Just praying for few side effects on increasing dosage, as our kids are pretty challenging even when you're feeling 100%! If it gives me more energy in the long run and I can move about more easily and deal with being on my feet all day, I guess it'll be worth it.

spidermum18 · 31/08/2025 15:44

@SerafinasGoosethanks for replying, I understand what you mean now. I’m also guilty of eating too fast and end up feeling really full afterwards. I’m hoping this will help with my portion size, fingers crossed it works

ladygin · 31/08/2025 18:29

@MoreIcedLattePlease omg I get that throat feeling as well and have been wondering what it is. But yes could be the a full up signal or the beginnings of if you eat anything else you gonna get indigestion. Especially as it goes if I don’t eat anything else more.

@spidermum18i think you will learn what those full up signals are. For me so far my stomach has hurt a bit - nothing painful just a weird pang. Also you just don’t fancy it. I ask myself do I want this and often no is the answer - putting down the fork is what is taking the mental strength but these are new emotional muscles and habits I am forming so it’s going to take effort.

for those struggling to want to or be able to eat, what I do is eat small amounts during the day and not go by the three meals a day rule. So I will eat half my sandwich at 10, the other half at 11. And apple at 12 and a yoghurt at 1. Basically eating my lunch from 10-1. Same with supper I might eat half with the family and then the other half later. That way it’s less effort but I am getting my calories in.

I’m hoping pharmacy will sell me some.

First weigh in day for me and I have lost 3lb. It's a good start, but I was probably hoping for a pound or two more than that having read some of the previous threads on here. However, other than feeling more tired than usual and a bit of a headache at the start of the week, I haven't felt any different and don't think I have had any kind of food suppression feelings. I also started my period yesterday and have been away visiting my mum for the last few days, so there has been food and 'treats' galore I have had to resist including a big family take away, so not that bad I guess! I will do my second injection later and see how it goes next week. I am going to try and get in a bit more movement this week and log everything to check I am not overeating.

When I bought mine online, I had to pay extra for a 100 pack of needles and a sharps box. I assumed this was normal?

JustPickleRick · 01/09/2025 08:44

Mine came with 4 needles and 4 wipes, I paid about £1 extra for a sharps box though. I think they've made a boo boo when packing! Really hope you can get some sourced soon. Good luck with your first injection!
