Anybody else planning to start in September?

I’ve been procrastinating for months but decided to go for it despite the price increases. Waiting for my delivery from Medexpress and planning on 1st Sept start.

Really bruised my stomach with my dose today 😫what a numpty. I was hungry today too, really hungry, then realised I’d got about 500 calories spare today

Bigbus · 01/10/2025 23:20

Hello just checking back in. I’m on 5 mg and weight loss is going well but nausea is not nice for the first few days after the injection. Il
going to stick to 5mg for another month and see how I get on. I hope everyone else is doing ok. I seem to have lost my appetite for wine which is both good and bad!

SW 15st 1lb
CW 13st 10lbs (end of week six)

Ihateslugs · 01/10/2025 23:20

I can’t decide whether to go for another 2.5 pen or move up to a 5. So far, three weeks in, I’ve not noticed any positive impact from the medication, but lots of negative effects ( diarrhoea or constipation) after each jab. I want to move to the 5 mg dose to increase my weight loss, I’ve been losing 1 or 2 lbs a week most weeks for about 4 months by diet alone but want to increase that loss ahead of knee surgery. On the other hand, I don’t want to feel ill again!

I have an appointment tomorrow at the pharmacy where I get my meds so will be able to discuss what best to do with the pharmacist. I’m wondering about getting the 5 mg pen but sticking at 2.5 for another couple of months to see if the side effects disappear as I get more used to it. I will be interested to see what the pharmacist suggests, according to the girl who answered the phone today he has been prescribing the WLIs for a long time and has a lot of patients.

@maz99 thanks for those words and I’m not giving up. Jab day tomorrow.
I actually did have a very small glass of wine tonight but that’s the first for about 3 months!

Ahhh... you had the wine.... 😜
I had 3 double G&Ts in the 3rd week and it was 2nd most highest amount I lost in a week (1.2kg)

I find a few gins has always helped the Whoosh affect when losing weight in the past! Something to do with empty fat cells filling with water and the dehydration after drinking collapses them? I read it a long time ago when no carbing! Even after the initial morning after hangover weigh.

I’ve been up since 5 with horrible period pain, I’ve had the worst heavy period I’ve had since my 7 year old was born, much more bleeding. I’m on the Mirena Coil so usually get hardly anything, google says possible side effect of jabs but nothing concrete as to why. Anyway it’s my 3rd weigh in and I’m down 2lb this week, so 2lb off a stone loss in the 3 weeks.

SW - 16s 4lb, CW 15s 6lb. I’m very very keen to see 14 stone soon, going to start some weights and tomorrow have a few miles walk planned. 4th jab today but I’m feeling so gross with this period it’s not appealing. I’m starving this morning so going to make some scrambled eggs and cottage cheese first for the protein boost.

jigsawmeup · 02/10/2025 07:34

1lb loss this week which doesn't sound too great considering I moved up to 5mg last week, but it's been a very challenging week food wise with several family birthdays and nights out with alcohol involved and pretty much no healthy food on offer! These times will happen I guess. I'm getting a bit concerned about being able to afford to stay on MJ as funds are low, so I really need to 'lock in' now (as my kids would say!) and try to work towards some better results. I have just done my 6th dose. I used the golden dose from my previous 2.5mg pen and got 0.7ml which I think is a bit below3g? I should have done this dose last week but the needles hadn't arrived so it's all a bit back to front! Will see how this week goes. I really really want to get to the 12s!

I think the pen may draw in air if you extract with insulin syringe though?

I’m guessing you’re concerned that when extracting the medication from a full pen, that air could enter and bacteria form inside the pen?

I don’t think it will do that. When I did the Golden dose last week, it drew down the plunger in the pen as you extract the medication.

It creates a vacuum because no air can enter the pen from the insulin syringe.

Ok... I've been keto / low carb previously too and learned back then that fat cells contain hormones. So, hormones are released when fat is lost and that affects the hormonal system... which is causes cycle changes and has helped women with PCOS get pregnant

Georgelassosthemoon · 02/10/2025 09:10

I’ve low-carbed a few times too while on the Mirena and found it occasionally triggered bleeding in the first month or so.

SnowWhiteisMyFavourite · 02/10/2025 09:59

@Georgelassosthemoon & @maz99 That’s interesting to know. I got mirena in July and whilst the first cycle started on schedule on 19/08 before my first jab, I have now had periods on the 07/09 and 23/09, lasted around 4-5 days each. I hope this settles over the next few months.

Bugling · 02/10/2025 10:09

@SnowWhiteisMyFavourite @Georgelassosthemoon @maz99 thats very interesting, hormones really do change so much! When I eat less carbs and sugar I usually feel fantastic, maybe due to hormone changes. But then while I don’t have much of a sweet tooth I love bread and anything to with a potato, so no carbs at all isn’t great, I love I can have a little whilst still focussing on protein and veg. Today’s plan is making a Thai red curry chickpea soup
with all my leftover veg before tomorrows veg bag comes.

Aside from the period pain I feel so much more energetic these past few days. less aches and I feel more flexible. I’m short, between 5’3 and 5’4 so I have in the last year been feeling this extra weight.

maz99 · 02/10/2025 10:38

Yep... it's one of the reasons I was scared to go back on keto, because when I was having month long periods 😩 I was losing well on keto... and I have a mirena coil fitted.

maz99 · 02/10/2025 11:37

Sleetingnow · 02/10/2025 13:26

I'm slowly getting to understand how my body is reacting to the jabs. Definitely feel worst first two days after - nauseous and diarrhea. Think I need to be more mindful of what I eat those days has temptation is to not eat very much because I feel sick, but then feel so weak and tired. Also need to figure if it's something triggering the diarrhea, because I didn't get that week's one and Two. Imodium is my friend at the moment!
Have decided to go do my golden dose our if this syringe and then go up to 5mg.

What's everyone eating in a day? Need some inspiration!

Alwaystired94 · 02/10/2025 13:50

just found this! i started 4 weeks ago for the first time. my 5mg has been ordered and is due for delivery tomorrow.

trying to lose the weight i gained after surgery earlier this year!

SW 176lbs
CW 163lbs
GW 150lbs

outofofficeagain · 02/10/2025 16:39

Welcome @Alwaystired94 - glad to have you aboard.

I'm not hungry (I made a disastrous omlette for lunch but it tasted OK), and I'm not craving sweet things, but I need 'something'

I've had a really stressful day at work, am feeling knackered, but need to give myself a bit of a break before I start on something else quite involved.

In the olden days I would have had some biscuits, bit of cake, maybe popped to the shop for a Magnum - to make the end of one task and beginning of another. What can I do instead? Maybe I need to start smoking again!

Those small bags of puffed up lentil crisps are less than 70 cals and not greasy. Pom bears not bad either. Protein bar? Yoghurt? Cup of strong smoky tea like lapsang souchon?

JustPickleRick · 02/10/2025 18:48

Now that the colder weather is on the way, i'm excited to make a scouse/stew tomorrow. I'm fussy so its only beef, potato's, carrots and stock but once all mixed together it tastes amazing. Portioned out its around 500 calories. That along with my chicken wrap at lunch is going to get me hitting 94g of protein 🤩 hoping it will keep me fuller for longer as i'm really feeling the hunger between meals at the moment.

Read something earlier today about alcohol which concerned me. Someone goi g dangerously low with their blood sugars because they drank cocktails. Thats all I drink on a night out 🫠 anyone got any experience with alcohol on the jabs other than having a hangover?

Apple with peanut butter dip?

OneDayIWillLearn · 02/10/2025 19:51

Argh having decided I’d definitely stay on 2.5mg I’m now back to indecision! 3 and a half days after jab 4 and I’m feeling hungrier than I have so far. Still managing to resist and haven’t been drawn to anything too unhealthy yet but I’m noticing thinking about food more. I don’t think I can take another 5 weeks of this if I stick to 2.5!

I’ve got syringes for doing a 5th dose so maybe I’ll do that and try and get hold of a 5mg pen after all. God it’s confusing 😵‍💫

I'm using the approach to alcohol that I had on keto... to drink clear alcohol as it has less sugar and therefore less impact on metabolises quicker

I had 3 double G&Ts in the 3rd week and didn't have any issues.

Yes I’ve carried on drinking alcohol at the weekends. A couple of small cans of beer and a couple of glasses of wine (red or fizzy) has been absolutely fine. I regretted it when I drunk a large quantity of fizz at a party though as felt pretty rough the next day! For me it generally seems fine though, not really noticeably different to normal drinking.

Ihateslugs · 02/10/2025 23:46

So I went and picked up my second pen today, I take the 4th injection from my first pen ( 25mg) tomorrow morning. I’ve registered with a local pharmacist for the NHS supported weight loss programme - still buy the Mounjaro of course. I had an initial 20 minute consultation and go back every four weeks for a weigh in and mini health check before getting the next pen. I find it reassuring to speak to someone face to face to answer any questions and give encouragement and also not have to wait for a delivery.

Although I was uncertain about going up to a 5mg pen having had diarrhoea or constipation following the first three injections, I have followed his advice and bought the 5mg pen. We talked about ways of helping with the side effects by eating certain foods rather than using supplements or medication. His advice was that as the diarrhoea and constipation were caused by a reaction to Mounjaro, it is better to try drinking more fluids and focusing on food choices
( increase fibre, eat binding type foods etc) so I stopped at the supermarket on the way home for apples, kiwi fruit, popcorn, bananas and eggs!

I thought the 5mg pen would cost more than the 2.5mg one as when I compared prices on a Mounjaro pricing website, they went up in price with every increase in strength. I was surprised when I paid exactly the same so my new pen was quite a bit less than the prices I’d seen quoted.

Onwards and upwards, here’s to a week of no side effects!

JustPickleRick · 03/10/2025 07:19

Gin it is then! I'll just have to be careful with my mixer, I'd go for lemonade usually and probably a sweet gin. Better than a cocktail though i imagine.

Weighed today ahead of my 6th jab tonight. Another 2lb down

SW: 12 st 9
CW: 10 st 13

24lbs down in total.
