Anybody else planning to start in September?

I’ve been procrastinating for months but decided to go for it despite the price increases. Waiting for my delivery from Medexpress and planning on 1st Sept start.

I'm W2D2 now, 4lb down in the first week. I'd hoped for a little more, but it's still very decent.
Slightly panicking about protein now - how important is it?? I'm not calorie counting either 😳 mainly because I find it very difficult to do.
I seem to be getting decent appetite suppression - not snacking at all, which is my downfall. Getting lots of tummy rumbling so I'm obviously hungry but it's like my body doesn't care 😂

Well done on your first week!

A lot of guides I've read say protein is really important to avoid losing as much muscle while losing weight. Plus it keeps you feeling full.

@InaneRamblings yeah I haven’t got to the bottom of whether the protein thing is specific to losing weight on MJ or just generally a good idea for those losing weight 🧐

outofofficeagain · 09/09/2025 21:32

Losing muscle mass as well as fat is an issue in all loss but apparently more so with WLI, so it’s important to get plenty of protein to minimise that - it’s the best way to allocate limited calories.

Yeah that's what I'm wondering too. I know I need to up the exercise as well, but I'm struggling with time, like most people!

Hi - joining you guys as I had my first Mounjaro jab today! I’m going through my local pharmacy as they’re weighing me and keeping it secret so I don’t have that horrible number eating me up … they’ll just tell me my loss in kg per month … given myself a pretty big 30kg target in the first 6 months, but I do have a lot to loose so aiming high so even if I get 60-80% there I’ll be happy … that’s my way of thinking anyway! Good luck to all others

I’m also going through my pharmacy but I will weigh myself as well, I know what my weight is and can cope with the stress - got over 6 stone to lose so it’s going to be a long journey! I was due to go for my initial consultation tomorrow but they phoned me today to move the appt to Thursday. Hopefully I’ll be able to start pretty much straight away.

Elliebearblues · 09/09/2025 22:33

First Jab just done - going to make an effort to have more protein and drink lots as I don’t drink enough during the day. Also re started weight training today so not to lose mistake mass, I want to lose about 3stone and really hope this works x

I am @Elliebearblues, on day 5. No side effects whatsoever so far.

That’s so good to hear, I just injected this evening so fingers crossed so no horrible side effects and a good loss next week x

What does a typical day look like food wise?

Are you finding yourself drawn to healthier choices eg vegetable soup rather than a chip butty ?! Or still a conscious decision?

Im definitely finding myself drawn to healthier foods. Craving a really crunchy salad or a nice fresh stir fry as opposed to heavier meals. And sugar cravings have close to disappeared for me. I am still enjoying the odd treat, but able to stop after a square of chocolate and not think about it again. There has been a bag of haribo in my cupboard for nearly 3 weeks. Unheard of! 😆

I have noticed this too which is bewildering

DH had to remind me there was an uneaten tirimisu in the fridge I’d forgotten about since Saturday. Normally I would have thought about this as soon as I woke up.

I've cut sugar and most processed foods and refined carbohydrartes. Usually when I do that I suffer horrific withdrawal symptoms and overpowering cravings from about Day 3. I've had none of that this time.

My rationale is that I know I need to avoid any foods that trigger cravings in me. I have to kick the habits that brought me to this size if I'm to have any hope of keeping off the weight I lose.

Oddly enough, though, I'm finding that I don't want those foods. I'm eating a lot of oily fish, eggs, chicken, peppers and tomatoes, with only limited quantities of carboydrates on some days (lentils, brown rice, oats). I'm also cooking batch quantities of my favourite casseroles and curry. I can take spicy food at present but might have to ditch that if the notorious reflux kicks in (having no side effects that I've noticed up until now).

SoUncertain · 10/09/2025 08:47

I agree about the sugar cravings. That is really quite mind blowing for me too. I'm also feeling more energised, which I'm sure is because I'm not scoffing too much sugar then dealing with the crash. Honestly quite shocked with the effects in such a short period.

Hope everyone who just jabbed in the past couple days is doing ok?

OneDayIWillLearn · 10/09/2025 09:02

I woke up hungry this morning (jabbed for first time yesterday at 3pm). I’d actually say hungrier than usual, perhaps because I didn’t eat as much as usual yesterday evening. But I’ve been able to ignore it and planning not to eat before midday as I usually do.

No other side effects as yet.

My starting weight is 13 stone 10lbs which is a BMI 30 and a bit.

My dream is to lose 3 to 3 1/2 stone to get me to something like BMI 24, which I haven’t been for ten years. I’d also be happy to get to see 11 stone something on the scales as it’s 4 years since I saw an 11 on the scales. Our tenth wedding anniversary is just before Christmas and I’d love to be able to weigh in below 12 stone by then but who knows.

But I have a heart condition and a hip issue which are both made worse by being overweight/ obese so any loss will be welcome!

I’m hoping for 1-2lbs loss a week.

I jabbed for the first time about 10.30pm last night. I’ve woken up not really feeling any different maybe a bit more thirsty but not really that noticeable. The strange thing is I’m sitting here this morning all the younger kids have gone to school and I feel a sense of calmness and at peace. I’m not hungry but to be honest I don’t really eat breakfast anyway so it’s not like ooo I’m not hungry but I just feel content which I haven't felt in ages. I’m hoping that I don’t get any horrible symptoms. Im not sure about the food noise aspect I’m not wanting food or particularly hungry and I’m like is that the jab or just me lol.

I currently weight 13st 1lb my heaviest I’ve ever been and I’ve tried all sorts of diet clubs and I lose and gain and the same pattern has been going on for years so thought I’d give the jabs a try, I’d like to lose about 2,5-3 stone to get me to 10-10 1/2 stone but right now I can’t even imagine losing a stone. So here’s praying the jab works.

only time will tell. Good luck to you and keep in touch as I’d love to know how your doing xx

Elliebearblues · 10/09/2025 09:48

Morning all, well I jabbed my first Wegovy last night and have woken up fine. Maybe a bit more thirsty but that could be just me. One thing I’ve noticed I feel a sense of calmness and peace. Anyone else feel like this? I’m not overly hungry but then I rarely eat breakfast so it’s may not be the jab.

when did everyone notice they weren’t as hungry and the food noise went away? Very curious xx

Georgeismydog · 10/09/2025 13:07

How much protein do people aim for?

Ive just had scrambled egg (3 eggs) for lunch (on toast though)

SoUncertain · 10/09/2025 13:18

I've seen a wide range of values, but apparently you need about 1g per kg of body weight to avoid losing muscle mass.

I'm pretty heavy, so that's a high goal for me! I had 82g and 89g the past couple days though. I've ordered a couple of whey protein shakes mixes from MyProtein. Hope they're not disgusting lol

outofofficeagain · 10/09/2025 13:42

Protein powder is the only way I think.

There’s 20-30g in a scoop but only 6g in an egg.

Chicken breast (100g cooked) → 30g
Turkey mince (100g cooked) → 27g
Salmon/white fish (120g cooked) → 25g
Eggs (2 large) → 12g
Greek yogurt (200g pot, 0% fat) → 20g
Cottage cheese (200g tub) → 25g
Tofu (150g block) → 18g
Lentils (200g cooked) → 18g
Chickpeas (200g cooked) → 15g
Whey/vegan protein shake (1 scoop) → 20–25g
Cheese (30g) → 7g
Milk (250ml) → 9g

Recommended protein is higher for weight loss - my provider recommended 1.6g

On Mounjaro, the recommended daily protein intake is 1.2 to 1.6 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight, which helps preserve muscle mass and promote fullness during weight loss. You should aim to consume a protein source of roughly 25-40g at each meal and distribute your intake throughout the day.

JustPickleRick · 10/09/2025 14:47

A typical day for me is:

Breakfast - 2 protein weetabix with 125ml of whole milk

Lunch: wholemeal wrap with nandos chicken and 25g of mature cheddar

Dinner: protein bagel with 2 bacon medallions and a fried egg.

Snack: Chocolate protein mousse

I'm such a creature of habit that i've ate this every day since I started 😂 sometimes I have my wrap hot, other days cold. Some evenings I just feel like the protein bagel. I enjoy every meal, i'm close to needing to find a different cereal for variety as i'm bored of the weetabix now 😅 i don't always have a snack either so the mousse isn't a daily thing.
I'm hitting just under 1200 calories which is near to my TDEE each day and averaging around 92g of protein. Here are some screen shots of my Nutracheck from yesterday.

Does anyone wear a Fitbit/smartwatch type thing? Since starting Mounjaro my resting heart rate has gone up quite a bit and my HRV has absolutely tanked. As these are both measures of general health and well-being I found it slightly concerning! Just wondered if anyone else has noticed a similar pattern!

I was eating quite a protein heavy diet prior to starting this so find that getting enough protein in each day is fine. I aim for at least 100g a day. For me, the issue is getting enough fibre as coming from a low carb/keto background my diet had very little fibre. I'm eating smaller portions I think and no snacks or alcohol, although I've been getting mega hungry in the middle of the afternoon so having an extra mini meal then like some greek yoghurt and fruit. I've had no side effects at all this week after my 3rd jab on Monday.

Is this everything you eat? What about veg?

SoUncertain · 10/09/2025 15:12

I'm fussy so have never been one for veggies. Might eat a banana if i'm in the mood 😅
I take multivitamins every day and omega 3, thats always kept me on top of what my body needs.

JustPickleRick · 10/09/2025 15:19

Just to add, i'm still going to the toilet once a day. I thought I may have had constipation a week or so ago but my body has fallen into going once a day which is fine so not getting fibre from fruit and veg isn't causing issues
