Mounjaro/Wegovy with >5 stone/30kg to lose - thread 10!

New thread for anyone with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. All welcome, whichever part of the journey you are on.

We have newbies and those who have got to their targets and lots of us in between at various stages, all supporting each other along the way.

Kiwis and milled flaxseed are still the order of the day, along with water, posh scales, weight loss charts (thank you Infosec!), Vinted and even more water...

We're coping with the Mounjaro palavers and hoping that somehow, we will all still be able to carry on with this amazing journey which is working so well for most of us.

No discount codes please - there is a separate thread for that.

@Trinckjust the teeniest little catch when inserting or removing the needle can result in an impressive bruise. I occasionally get Botox done to counteract a life of scowling at idiots and last time she very very minutely tweaked the needle when taking it out, I barely felt it but an hour later I had a black eye.

I have been trying on clothes in new styles and colour palettes, determined to get away from my 99.9% black clothing wardrobe and start wearing some of the colours ChatGPT said will suit my colouring. I think I like the shirt and trouser look on me although I think charcoal/grey straight leg tailored trousers will look better than the black wide leg jersey ones I’m wearing here

Happy bank holiday weekend everyone. Just posting here to mark my place so I don't lose you again

Sam187 · 24/08/2025 17:32

My Asda delivery just arrived. I've somehow ended up with a couple of pens surplus now in last week's panic. Not intentional stockpiling - Asda refunded me so I assumed the order is as cancelled.

I'm sure this has been asked before, but how do people with a few pens in reserve plan on purchasing again afterwards, will they need to go back to 2.5mg? I'm only currently at 5, but got a 7.5mg pen incase I had to increase...

@InfoSecInTheCity you look fabulous 😍

So I am currently on a 12.5mg pen (but taking a slightly smaller dose from it) I ordered a 15mg from my usual supplier 12 days ago. It stayed as “processing” for 5 days so I panic bought one from my previous supplier. Both arrived this week.

I will tell my current supplier that I have an extra pen and would like to not order another for 2 months. I can’t see that will be a problem and can send a picture of the box if needed.

If it is then I will have to order earlier than planned. I am just into the healthy weight range so am planning to start tapering down soon.

Providers understand that lots of us bought an extra pen. I think it could be an issue if you have several extra pens though.

I think this message goes to @MooBaggage ? Am I allowed to recommend a website for cheaper trainers? Only, going back a bit i remember a couple of conversations about trainers, and how they're super expensive.
Anyway,if you could let me know if it's ok and I'll post the website thanks.

Not a great day today. Weetabix for breakfast. Large ham salad and a glass of wine for lunch.
Then I’ve also had 4 x Jaffa cakes, 2x French fancies and a cornetto icecream. I’ve always had a very sweet tooth, but since being on MJ it disappeared. It came back with a vengeance today.

Tomorrow is another day I suppose.

Slowrunning · 24/08/2025 21:29

@NotsosunnyShropshire it’s just one day and probably not that many calories.
Try not to think of it as a bad day.

We all have those days. I am on 15mg but still ate a stupidly calorific dessert thingy at a local event today, probably due to the vast quantity of alcohol consumed first.
Showing my age but, as Scarlett O'Hara said, "Tomorrow will be another day"

Hello all. A late check in from me.

Gained .4lb this week - not a surprise. I’ve been on my period and absolutely ravenous. My emotions have also been horrific, and MJ has increased whatever hormones are going on - I’m often overwhelmed, teary and impatient on my period now.

Not much to add from me, I’ll get back to tracking tomorrow and move on. Just not feeling in the right headspace this weekend.

No movement on my ASDA order. I also think they don’t have stock for me, but will allocate on their next delivery. I’m ok with it, as I have enough supply, but any hint of guilt I had for contributing to the shortage is gone after this - I fully don’t expect those pens in my hand for another couple of weeks tbh.

Does anyone know why we don’t have other brands of tirzepitide in the UK? I know the US market has Zepbound too. I wondered why the competition hasn’t forged into new territory given the popularity.

@Darlinghag Hope you're ok and the emotions settle down soon. .4lb is nothing and will be off again in no time at all, a good night's sleep and lots of water will do the trick.

What mg was your order? Hopefully you get it quickly. Having read some of the boards and the wild amounts that people have bought, I feel a little less guilty now. I don't relish having a pen extra, but it happened in a genuine way.

Mounjaro and Zepbound are both manufactured by Eli Lilly. They're under different brand names because of FDA approval over there. MJ got it's approval under diabetes treatment but Zepbound's approval came later and included weight loss management so is more expensive through their healthcare system. EL have a patent on tirzepatide that gives them exclusive rights to manufacturer and sell it. Not sure how long it lasts but think it's like 15-20 years from inception.

MooBaggage · 25/08/2025 08:54

@NotsosunnyShropshire it must be in the air as I had an ice cream yesterday for the first time since January...! Was at the cricket yesterday and it was so warm and we were there for 6 hours - I resisted for the first 4 hours but then cracked towards the end...

Today's another day though - jab day for me so I'll hopefully get some higher suppression back - and it was only one day for both of us, out of the 100s/1,000s to come.

Onwards and downwards...

@Darlinghag sorry you've been low 😥 I hope you start to feel more like yourself very soon.

The Monj website has got September prices on it now - sharp intake of breath needed, but I suppose it's better to know - and I still have hope things will settle soon and prices be a bit less bonkers.

I suppose with price increases and people then switching to Wegovy/stopping/using less, MJ stock should be available soon?

Weigh day for me, a day late as I have been away staying with family and celebrating birthdays. Quite a few meals where I wasn’t able to eat exactly what I would have liked, and not much opportunity for exercise. So I stepped on the scales with some trepidation but have only gained 2.6lbs and stayed within my maintenance Zone of Acceptability of 150-something.

SW: 241.2 lbs / 17st 3 / BMI 35.6
CW: 157.1 lbs / 11st 3 / BMI 23.2
GW: 150-159 lbs

This week +2.6 lbs
Total loss 84.1 lbs / 6st

I’m happy with that - trying not to be too twitchy about a gain because that’s what the Zone of Acceptability is there for. I need to get used to fluctuations within it, and calmly manage to steer back towards the middle in whichever direction is necessary.

I was planning to try and lower the zone to 147-154 as I still have a bit of a tummy, but I can see the higher up ribs at the top of my chest already and don’t want to get any thinner there. So this is just the shape of me, who knew? I like it anyway, tummy and all 💪
Going to wander down for a celebratory swim in the sea with DD later, make the most of the last hot day ☀️🐳

Amarajean · 25/08/2025 09:18

Thanks @MooBaggage
The website is called D pop, not sure if anyone has heard of it but they sell new and nearly new and some second hand trainers. I noticed a few pages back that there was a conversation about trainers and how pricey they are for good ones, well this website sells for half price or even better than half price.
Not sure what the quality is like but my son bought a brand new pair of Nike air max for half the price you get in shops and they look fab!
They sell clothes as well but I haven't looked at them yet.
Hope this website can help lower someone's costs anyway.

GiveMeWordGames · 25/08/2025 09:20

@Darlinghag sorry it's been a tough week. Being menopausal has plenty of downsides drawbacks but one thing I definitely don't miss is the hormonal rollercoaster. That tiny .4lb will be gone before you know it.

@MooBaggage I'm well impressed that you've made it through this entire heatwave summer on no ice cream until now!! I cracked a few times and then decided to buy some of those Rowntrees fruit lollies to give me the cold treat without the calorie hit.

@gimmemounjaro enjoy your well deserved celebratory swim!!

Should be jab day today but I'm putting it off to tomorrow because of a) seeing my Mum later who likes to offer up sweet stuff and b) DH, home from a longish stint of work abroad, is agitating for a barbecue this evening. I'm going to give in to the bank holiday vibes for the day.

Down another 2lbs this week. 22 weeks, currently on 7.5, 5ft 8, early 50s.

SW 17st 4
CW 13st 11.75
GW 11-12st

I've got my pharmacy appoint on Thursday, the one I moved forward from 2nd Sept. He promised me I'd be able to get another pen then, either 7.5 or 10, which gives me three total at old prices to see me through until December. By that point I'm hoping I'll be titrating down.

That sounds like the perfect approach to a balanced life! I don't want to spend the rest of my days worrying about my weight and eating so aim to do just what you are already doing in maintenance.

Was it you asking about SwiftDoctor? I am with them and plan to stay as they have been excellent so recommend them when they open up to new customers again. They have released their new prices which still look competitive too

Thanks @QueenOfHiraeth I just have to hold my nerve and not assume that every little gain is the beginning of the end. I am still on 7.5mg, so absolutely no reason why it should be! 🤦‍♀️

I feel like this is the real work for me actually - I have lost weight before but never managed to keep it off. So maintenance is the bit I need to figure out and not get caught up in catastrophising and negative self talk about it all being too good to be true and doomed to failure 😬

Thanks for the Swift info too - yes I am hoping to move to them for maintenance as I want to come off MJ eventually and like the flexibility of being able to go back on it within a year. I have a couple of 10mg pens from yonks ago to use up so will sit on 7.5mg for a while longer, ordered a 7.5mg the day before the pricing hoo hah so hopefully just need one or two 5mg and one or two 2.5s. The new prices seem very reasonable so I should be able to manage the cost, even if I need to stay on long term or keep hopping on and off the MJ train. I guess it makes sense to try and order one more pen from my existing supplier before September if Swift are still closed to new customers, but fingers crossed I can join them soon after that 🤞

I will be taking as many doses as I can out of every pen from now on, so that should see me through a good few months of gently reducing the dose.

Hi everybody😃

I forgot to log yesterday so here goes.

SW - 20st 3lbs Aug 24
CW -14st 2.6lbs Aug 25
WL - 2lbs
Average WL since start 1.6lbs.
Average WL in 2nd year (beginning 11th Aug 25) -0.33lbs, I gained last week hence the odd average loss.
My visceral fat has dropped to 11 and is now average!
BMI 29.1
My body fat is still very high at 37.6% and is the only marker in the red on my renpho app.

I was chuffed to bits and very suprised to lose this week as I lived on mainly fresh plums and peanut butter and jam, average daily cals were 2072 over the week. Which just goes to show that our weight loss doesnt follow our weigh ins, calories are not all equal and basically weight loss is a complete mystery!😉

I am on wk 3 at 4.5mg and plan to reducde further, but not sure when yet.
I am still, apart from last week eating around 1600 cals per day, over the week, to keep them just above my BMR which I am really trying to keep as high as possible!

Oh and I am 176cm and 56, very peri/menopausal. I am just adding all these personal details again as I noticed we have had some more new folks join us, welcome to you all, and I found it really helpful, when I started to see other peoples stats.

Big thank you to @Darlinghag for the code you gave me, after ordering on 15th August, as a returning customer who hadnt ordered since January, Asda have today confirmed my order, and it is showing estimated delivery date as tomorrow!

Has anyone read about the study linking GLP-1 meds with sudden blindness/eye stroke? I heard about this the other day and I have to admit it has freaked me out.

The risk, though doubled, looks small: 2 in 1000 compared to 1 in 1000. However, reading accounts from people it happened to is very scary.

I think that this, combined with the tripling of prices, has made me feel like it's time for me to stop. At the same time, I'm terrified of stopping and putting the weight back on (and yes I know that diabetes is a huge risk where vision is concerned. ) So, i don't know. I have two 10mg pens in my fridge and I'm thinking maybe I just titrate down slowly and try to maintain what I've lost. I'm still obese, but much healthier and smaller than I was.

Here's something from a few months ago. There is a more recent study, I believe, that shows a link. Eli Lilly are apparently the subject of a law suit regarding this - but it's harder to find info on that. I'll link the more recent study if I can find it.

It looks like a very rare and unusual side effect, but for me personally I'm not sure I want to keep taking that particular risk. Other risks I'm more willing to take, when balanced against the risks inherent in obesity. But that one, for me personally, while it may be tiny, it strikes terror into my heart!

Vision loss: GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic linked to 3 eye conditions

A new review reports that nine people taking semaglutide and tirzepatide — the active ingredient in GLP-1 medications — experienced vision issues, including three potentially blinding eye conditions.

Thanks @taylorswift1989. I don't see anything overwhelming or unacceptably risky as long as users are having routine check-ups and have any changes investigated promptly. We all have our own risk assessment thresholds, however.

I'm afraid I'm not going to give a drop of credence to a source from an ambulance-chasing law firm, however.
