For anyone who would like a calmer place to share support and information about the price increases.

Anyone heard from Asda yet? Radio silence from them for me even though I ordered the day before and nothing on website. Annoying when so many other companies have commented.

There is a lot of info if you go to your messages and then follow the link about the prices increase in the banner that shows. Last time I looked no prices yet but they did say that existing customers can order up to three pens by placing three separate orders (10/12.5 mg out of stock though).
I think I have opted out of email updates so didn’t get an email.

The long term implications are what’s worrying me. Nothing stops them doing this again in a years’ time. I’m staying on for now, but it’s worrying long term. I had planned to taper down to a mid level dose and stay on for a while for maintenance but there’s not a chance in hell of that now

There are newer drugs in test phases like retatrutide and the wegovy pill version plus the 7.2mg so the more options on the market the more competitive the price should become.

Just out of interest, how do people actually ‘stock pile’? I thought the pens expired after 30 days? I’m not planning to do it, just curious!

30 days from first used - as a multi dose vial and microbial agent is only proven to be effective for that long. Actual medication has expiry dates up around 18 months if stored in fridge.

CoverMeInMarmalade · 16/08/2025 19:45

Certainly this has knocked my confidence in the reliability of the supply etc of these drugs. One of the reasons I am now targetting trying to come off them (very slowly) is because I no longer have faith in their long term availability.

Not that I think they will vanish, just stock issues, increased restrictions and now surprise price increases mean I don't trust the supply.

I’m almost trying to moderate my losses in order to make sure I’d still be eligible for these, but the wegovy worries me as well with how the pricing will be. It’s a real wake up call that this can’t be the miracle drug forever

Does anyone know how Chem4U operate? Or any other pharmacy with 5mg pens?

I’m just trying to swap to them. Their Trustpilot score is 4.8 and they have very few negative reviews, mostly complaining about Royal Mail delivery. Very straightforward process so far but I think those are all automatically generated emails. 🤞

It's funny you mention confidence...i've always quietly worried MJ would be pulled. My concerns were over people obtaining it deceptively and pharmacies losing prescribing power. Or maybe the prescribing guidelines changing to higher and higher BMIs. I am always relieved when I get my next pen 😅

As for price, I always assumed it would go down, not up!

Cantonet · 16/08/2025 19:53

I ordered on the Asda website on Thursday & another 15mg early this morning. They are now saying they're out of stock of the 15mg strength. I hope that means that mine are reserved ! Literally I've only dealt with Asda the whole time I've been on Wegovy.

I do have experience of Wegovy & it stopped working for me on the highest dose. Mounjaro was far more effective but I'm still a relatively slow loser I started off with Saxenda, moved on to Wegovy & then more recently onto Mounjaro. I've lost a total of 20 kg at the age of 61.

I've also worked in the pharmaceutical industry & the way that Eli lilly have handled this is shit! Surely they could have given more notice of these price rises so people could forward plan. Their excuse is they priced it cheaply originally so they would gain the NHS contract. Now they've been awarded it they're upping the price. So are we paying for the cheap NHS contract?

CoverMeInMarmalade · 16/08/2025 19:54

Me too @JustPinkFinch - both worrying it would be moved out of my reach but also assuming prices would get better, not worse!

@FurForksSake Those syringes are not for clinical use so may not be sterile. I certainly wouldn't inject myself with them and, if they are not sterile and you use them on earlier doses rather than the last one, there's a risk of contaminating the pen.
You need to order the medical grade ones from companies like Express Chemist or UKMedi

I’ve been using them for months - had no idea. To be honest, the jab goes only just under the skin so not really worried by that part, but worth noting on the pen contamination front

Hmmm the information seems to have changed on that since I ordered. They are individually wrapped and marked as sterile with all the expected information.

I’ve ordered from ukmedi but I’m not sure how much I really trust any of them.

MagicaMagical · 16/08/2025 20:02

I’ve now ordered the sterile ones - thanks for heads up!

I ordered mine from Express Chemist as they were a brand I had used at work so was familiar with and using a clinical company or pharmacy is more reassuring to me than Amazon.

It is important to get sterile ones because, even though the risk is very low, you don't want to introduce any infection under the skin. The ones used by the NHS often come in a pack of 10, I have never seen individually wrapped ones in a clinical setting
No harm done anyway and glad you have new ones on the way

I did worry about this but then logically greed always wins out and the market is too great now for them to start pulling it back if you ask me.

The cat is out of the bag as to how effective these are, I think in 5yrs time they will have totally changed the landscape of obesity healthcare.

MagicaMagical · 16/08/2025 20:11

@QueenOfHiraeth @FurForksSake they have definitely all changed their descriptions. The ones I ordered which I ‘assumed’ were sterile are now listed, not as needles or syringes, but as ‘measuring tools.’ Very dodgy.

SaintAgatha · 16/08/2025 20:12

I genuinely believe that within 10-15 years they’ll have developed some sort of anti obesity vaccine that can be given when the gene is identified and that’s that. Is that scientifically possible? I don’t know but it seems like we’re heading that way.

I do think the roll out of these into the UK was very, very messy though. I think because wegovy and saxenda had been rolled out before and very few people used them, they expected the same thing to happen with Mounjaro. My friend is with Oushk and she sent me a post from their Facebook group, which basically says how the suppliers to the pharmacies in the UK don’t have enough refrigerated trucks etc to cope with demand, which is kind of baffling when you think of it.

MagicaMagical · 16/08/2025 20:13

@ThatCyanSheep perhaps ones that allow you to eat as much as you want, never feel over full and never put on weight too…that’s my dream anyway!

I would love that 🤣 I do know that the future is coming with regards to these drugs, the stronger version of Mounjaro is expected to hit the market in 2027. But it’s just this in between period that isn’t very good

Beammeupscotty2025 · 16/08/2025 20:15

Wegovy is made in Denmark or affiliated to Denmark, just switch to that.

Trump has made me want to boycott Mounjaro now anyway!

CoverMeInMarmalade · 16/08/2025 20:16

It does still seem amazing to me that in my lifetime they have "cured" obesity. Something I always dreamt would happen in the future - too far in the future for me to benefit from it. Yet, here we are, living that dream.

It's like a miracle, still (to me).

Does it not have more side effects though? The slightly less weight loss doesn't really matter to me as nearly at goal and thinking for maintenance, I was also pleased to see the wegovy pens can be used for us to 8 weeks as well

I do wonder if MJ had not come on the scene would wegovy have taken off more here instead?

I'm with Voy who have offered to swap me over to it, and due to some discount and also referral credit, the first 1mg pen (apparently equivalent to 10mg MJ) would be free. So, I've ordered one and will see how it goes. If it's not good, I will then try MJ again perhaps

Orangesandlemons77 · 16/08/2025 20:23

Also of course we don't know if wegovy will also have a price increase as well.

Wegovy isn’t protected, this is aimed at all drug companies not just Eli Lilly. The sad fact is, he’s affecting all of our lives. It’s just Eli Lilly and Mounjaro was the first one to come out.
