For anyone who would like a calmer place to share support and information about the price increases.

PS - tried to order another pen from She Med, who have been stunningly unhelpful regarding their plans, wont confirm how much notice they will give before taking higher amounts of payment, and say if you want to switch to Wegovy, you have to start completely from scratch.

threeeggsontoast · 16/08/2025 16:48

Just out of interest, how do people actually ‘stock pile’? I thought the pens expired after 30 days? I’m not planning to do it, just curious!

For anyone who has to stop (like me) did you titrate down? If you just stop, is there likely to be problems?

I think you can just stop - i.e. it's safe to do so.

But I have heard the hunger return is worse that way. Gentler on your appetite to titrate if you can manage to at all.

I didn't see the other thread so not sure what happened, and am not really aware of the price increase. I am prescribed MJ by my GP so it's on the NHS and I don't pay. I'm not using it to lose weight but am very worried that people are talking about stockpiling it as that might cause issues for people like me who have a medical need for it

Is anyone able to post a link to a reliable news source?

i think the NHS will be able to get the meds. The question will be for those taking it for type 2 diabetes, brought on by lifestyle. Will GPs go back to metformin and Slimming World?

SilenceInside · 16/08/2025 16:50

@threeeggsontoast if you look at one of your injection pens you’ll see an expiry date printed on it. Usually several months in the future. If unused and refrigerated the pens are fine until that date.

Hotflushesandchilblains · 16/08/2025 16:51

Thanks Marmalade - I know there is a way to get an extra dose and have a few pens I have been meaning to do this with, so if I buy some syringes, I should be able to titrate myself. Waiting for an NHS referral (I was referred, GP messed it up so the company closed it, GP has now left so waiting to talk to my GP about referring again) so will likely have a break at least, if not a complete end of using it.

SilenceInside · 16/08/2025 16:51

@AnnaQuayInTheUk I don’t think it’s relevant to be discussing people who are acquiring prescription medication fraudulently on this thread.

For me I have long been in the habit of placing forward orders for every 4 weeks (you can buy and select a future delivery date with Oushk) but I take 5 doses per pen. That's meant I was always getting a bit ahead.

Then, in the earlier days there were a couple of times when I had pre ordered a higher dose but decided I wanted to stay on the lower one for a bit longer. I just stashed the higher dose and bought a smaller dose from a different pharmacy. That put me ahead again.

When there were some stock issues a few months back I realised how useful that was because it meant I didn't have to panic and could (as I did) tell Oushk they could cancel my order in favour of someone else who needed it, so that they got the stock they needed.

So long as the pens stay unopened in the fridge, they last until their expiry - which can be months ahead. e.g. the pen I am using now has a Dec-26 expiry.

@CoverMeInMarmalade there’s no evidence that hunger returns worse that it was before. Titrating down isn’t medically proven or even researched at the moment. It’s just what some people prefer because they are worried about managing without the medication. Mainly because the few studies there have been do show that people regain some weight. So better to remain on a maintenance dose, which may not need to be as high as the dose that you were using to lose weight.

Good to know! And a relief for those who do have to stop short.

Hotflushesandchilblains · 16/08/2025 16:57

I am nowhere near a maintenance phase - currently on 10mg so will try to titrate while I pursue NHS referral.

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 16/08/2025 16:17

MMP (Medical Marketplace) so one of the biggies have apparently set their price for 5mg at £178 from 1 September. And that’s a similar price to Ousk (a smaller outfit). So that might be a useful guide, but think we have to just wait to get a clearer picture of how it will shake down.

(Cross posted with @periglpfan!)

Edited

That's not too bad, as 5mg is currently £149 at Oushk - I was worried prices would double!

Anotherename · 16/08/2025 17:00

I think it’s just a case of waiting until the madness has died down.

obviously it’s been whipped up on social media, and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be quite as bad as been made out
(bad enough of course)

I have been on since jan and lost 70lb

I have to say my weight loss is slowing down (about 1lb a week max now) so I’m even wondering if it might be a jolt to the old system and start me loosing again if I went on to Wegovy 🤷‍♂️

husband is also using , he’s lost 4st , and had two more to go . We can’t really afford to fund it now , never mind with an increase.

however , good news is I have four weeks left in the fridge , husband has three

so hopefully the madness will have died down by then.

im hoping that husband will get to goal by January, then can start tirating off for maintenance (I don’t know what that will look like, I was actually hoping that some sort of low level (cheaper) maintenance dose would be available by then !

in all likelihood I would have to be on it long term , it would take me at least another year at 1lb a week , and as someone who has been overweight since about 5years old , this is the only thing that ever worked .

I am thankful for what I have lost , my life is fuller (and easier) and although there’s no magic formula to tell you, I would imagine I have pushed back some serious health issues by a decade

FlappyFish · 16/08/2025 16:05

Now that I’ve had 48 hours and there’s a calmer thread I’ve decided to just see what happens. I posted on my month thread - but I’ve been on maintenance for basically a year and dropped another stone in that time. (Official maintenance was November 24).

I did stop for 6 weeks before I went back on for maintenance. I titrated down September/October 2024.

Those six weeks were hard. Very hard. Hence the maintenance.

However, I’m now toned. I gym at least three times a week with cardio and weights. That wasn’t properly in place ten months back.

I can afford it whatever happens. I may just be buying fewer clothes…

I feel for anyone further back in this journey. Heck, I feel for all of us.

I started MJ pretty much the week it was released when we just had one support thread, way before the monthly threads as the awareness spread.

I hope everyone finds a way forward that works for them.

Pure nosiness on my part @FlappyFish but could I ask how you found out about mj before it was released here? Was it from other countries?

p.s. Reddit gets a bad rep but some of subreddits are actually pretty good, informative and much more supportive than mn can be at times. There are mounjaro specific subreddits if anyone has a fancy for that kind of thing.

That's the reason I started the original thread in the first place - reddit already knew about the new prices before anywhere else seemed to.

Thank you for starting the original thread. Agree that there’s a lot of useful information on Reddit. Before deciding to microdose and use the pens for a bit longer than six weeks, I trawled through any mentions on Reddit. The explanations of risk there meant I was able to feel relatively secure in veering away following the official manufacturer advice. Think this is something more people may consider doing now.

That is reassuring for Oushk, as I was expecting £240ish for a 5mg with the quoted mark ups in prices in the media.

JohnTheRevelator · 16/08/2025 17:04

I've been trying to find out whether Wegovy and Ozempic are going to increase in price too,but everything online is very vague about it,just says about Mounjaro. Does anyone know?

All I've seen is an article quoting Novo that say they have no intention of raising prices.

How much that can be relied on, I don't know. But it's soemthing.

JabbyJabber · 16/08/2025 17:05

Thanks for starting the new thread OP

Just a request for people not to post referrals on this thread please. There’s a separate board for them. I’m reporting any and mnhq will delete them.

TinglyandCurious · 16/08/2025 17:06

Thanks for starting this thread 🙂 Feeling much calmer about the whole dreadful thing today as not sure the price increases will be as high as initially reported. Some of the big pharmacies must be able to negotiate discounts which we may benefit from.

I’m with MedExpress and they are asking for questions to be submitted online so they can compile and publish an FAQ about the whole
thing early next week. My main question is whether I can switch to Wegovy for maintenance. My BMI is 26 now (been on MJ for nearly a year) so wouldn’t be eligible for Wegovy in normal circumstances.

TheCaloricDecline · 16/08/2025 17:08

AThousandCaloriesToTheBad · 16/08/2025 16:16

They sound very lax with patient and product safety and more of a lifestyle brand than a pharmacy, with some kind of cult around the seemingly very unprofessional CEO.

I’ve used many online pharmacies for prescriptions and oushk looks to me more like an aesthetics business than a medical one 🤷🏻‍♀️

Edited

They are, however, as far as I am aware, one of the firsts to tighten up the process of getting a prescription. You have to have a video call, and prove height and weight on the call. Makes it a bit harder to 'fake' a photo. So, not sure if I agree with the lax of patient safety.....On the other hand, MEDEXPRESS hasn't asked for a new picture or proof of weight since March.

MagicaMagical · 16/08/2025 17:09

I’ve always had at least one pen in reserve. However, a warning as I came a cropper at one point. Had an operation and took a couple of one week breaks, had some extra pens (can’t even remember the logistics as to why now!) and when I went to order again it was nearing 8 weeks and they were very interrogative as to why I’d had ‘a break’ even though I actually hadn’t beyond a week. After 8 weeks they start you again!

They’ve tightened up as an enforcement order was placed upon them. They had to or they’d be shut down. Ditto for their storage of medicine which wasn’t adequately monitored in temperature. Hopefully they’re doing better now

How do you microdose please?
