Big price increases?

Anyone else seen this chatter about massive price increases announced for MJ (to pharmacies) in the last hour or so?

Very concerning as it looks like it could double the cost of some of the doses. I'll try to find the copy of the letter sent out...

I think I'm going to scrimp and save to stay on 12.5 until I get to goal and then go to Wegovy for maintenance.

I am in an incredibly lucky position where I’m at home and I’m starting a job next week where there’s huge potential for wage growth within a few months. So fingers crossed I can keep going!

Why? its true, I know 3 people on weight lose medication, one has it on the nhs the others pay for it via the Internet. If you genuinely need it you'll be given it.

So you live in the UK and genuinely believe that the NHS provides whatever people need in a timely fashion, no problem at all? You can't recall a single time when then hasn't been the case? Curious.

Has anyone taken Wegovy? What is it like in comparison to Mounjaro?

I started on Wegovy and lost 4 stone in a year. I swapped to mounjaro as knew Wegovy was only approved for two years. I had to start on lowest dose of mounjaro and am now up to 12.5mg but weight loss has been minimal so far. Not sure if you swap the other way round if you have to start back at the beginning again but if so you may find you have a lengthy plateau until you work up to the higher strengths.

Cracking up thinking of the nurses who told me two weeks ago to use ChatGPT if I had post op questions because the consultant is too busy to be able to answer them 🤣

So then you’d need to see a doctor who can make a decision to prescribe off licence. I know people who have done this…. Don’t know who the doctors are but it was covered in a channel 4 dispatches.

I think you need to go back and read their posts from the start.

This is weight loss...you really think that the majority of people who buy it cant lose the weight through diet and exercise? They are putting the price up to protect supply for the people who medically need it.

What are you EVEN talking about
this makes zero sense

Anyway. Ignoring the absolute dunderheads coming out of the woodwork, let's get back on track. Hira at Oushk said in her live this evening that the highest dose would probably be around £320 per month. It's pretty bad, but she also said she'd be switching those who can't afford over to Wegovy.

If that’s the case I can’t even begin to think what it have to pay if I continue to source it in the UK but I suspect it would be about 550 pounds. That amount would be more expensive than what it costs here which is currently 450, an amount I was determined not to pay as I felt the pharmacy owner was profiteering and I wasn’t going to let him get fat on my fat. But it seems I may have to very grudgingly let him get fat on my fat for the few months I have left on the drug and it’s a case of so be it.

I am very concerned about others, though something is telling me this is just a bump in the road for those on Mounjaro and people will get to the end of their journey as planned. ^^

I know we shouldn’t expect anything less, but it hurts my soul a bit that some people are enjoying this.

Imagine actually feeling that way about another human being and their struggles. All because some people are fat. It really is seen as the worst possible thing you can be. Some of these people will have daughters. What a messed up place to be in your head.

If this was about people with anorexia, and there was a jab that made their thoughts and feelings go away, made them eat, and it was going to be taken away, the responses would be different. Or would they just be told to eat more? I doubt it. No empathy or feeling is reserved for fat people. Fat women especially. They deserve it. Stupid fat people. They need to suffer for their sin.

I know we take the piss with the bingo card bla bla bla - but this really is insidious stuff.

Glad I’m not like that. Genuinely.

Thinking of us all tonight.

Don’t forget, Oushk are some of the more expensive ones x

Triumphofdiplomacy · 14/08/2025 19:38

She actually puts it as ‘she’ll be embarrassed to eat normally around people who are on it and have no appetite as it will look like she’s greedy’. I know exactly what she actually means - she is worried that they may be smaller than her. She puts her whole self worth on the fact she’s naturally slim.

And she still will be. Clearly her perception of herself and others is skewed. If she is slim already nothing will change unless it's an arms race she is imagining herself in

This is totally correct. Oushk are small so they probably don't have the clout to negotiate the deals that the likes of med express do.

Nope - not heard anything

Med express sent email today warning of this.

Braygirlnow · 14/08/2025 20:42

If you medically need it you'd get it on nhs as does my work colleague . The supply is sometimes in danger as so many are buying it privately, so using a like it said do it the old fashioned way, its endangering people who need it. The privite sale of it to other countries online is why supply can become an issue, this is why they need to bring the price up to match, it stops uk buyers from buying to sell on for profit.

Wrong on both counts.

wordywitch · 14/08/2025 21:14

100% agree. Same if HRT was suddenly taken away, or anxiety medication. Or god forbid ADHD medication from their children. There would be utter outage, pandemonium and upset, but when it comes to obesity everyone afflicted must suffer. It’s a nasty, patriarchal attitude that has engulfed so many, especially women, some of whom are more terrified of ever being fat than of pretty much anything else. It’s pathetic.

Dymaxion · 14/08/2025 21:17

If Trump has done this because he thinks Americans are paying too much, does this mean the prices are going to go down in America ? or just that the prices are going to go up everywhere else ?

UnimaginableWindBird · 14/08/2025 21:18

I was just about to start, night I'm going to hold off until there's more information, and probably look into wegovy instead.

PearlsPearl · 14/08/2025 21:18

Just heard on the radio - prices will double, half the people privately buying will have to stop, so pharmacies will not be out of pocket, they'll break even

DareDevil223 · 14/08/2025 21:19

@HansHolbein it's always disappointing to come face-to-face with the fact that some people are just absolutely scummy human beings, without intelligence, wit, empathy, sympathy or any form of humanity. or as I call them for brevity's sake "utter cunts".

Sadly and predictably many of them have shown up here with their witless drivel. Just be grateful that you are not like them, being a decent and kind person.

It sounds like they’ll still be getting a hefty discount though. Seems a bit of everything with Eli Lily at this point. They’ll have the tiny pharmacies paying list price, which means that they don’t have to cut costs as far in America, while also maintaining a client base here.

Absolute conjecture at this point

Bepo77 · 14/08/2025 21:21

Why are people buying it privately if it's available on the NHS? Are they already slim?

Because as has been stated in this thread, you have to have four separate comorbitities before the NHS will prescribe. I’m sure you already know this though.

No, its because it very tightly controlled on the NHS as to who actually can get it

The NHS isnt made of money, these drugs are expensive and they are doing a slow roll out.

To get it via the NHS you have to have a BMI of above 30 - PLUS two weight related disorders/conditions at this time

Not every obese person falls into that category

Nope hence me asking. Sorry for not reading 27 pages to get an answer to my very specific question...
