Big price increases?

Anyone else seen this chatter about massive price increases announced for MJ (to pharmacies) in the last hour or so?

Very concerning as it looks like it could double the cost of some of the doses. I'll try to find the copy of the letter sent out...

No, its because it very tightly controlled on the NHS as to who actually can get it

The NHS isnt made of money, these drugs are expensive and they are doing a slow roll out.

To get it via the NHS you have to have a BMI of above 30 - PLUS two weight related disorders/conditions at this time

Not every obese person falls into that category

Thanks for a genuine polite answer!

Medicine Marketplace New prices from 1st Sept.
2.5mg £137
5mg £178
7.5mg £215
10mg £239
12.5mg £251
15mg £271

Gettingbysomehow · 14/08/2025 21:27

I got an email from med express too. I can just afford it if I use the golden dose and eat beans. Im on my last stone to lose, I've already lost 5 stone. so Im going to massively step up my calorie restriction and exercise which will be tricky as Im disabled so not easy to "move more". Then Im switching to wegovy. Im pissed off though. My disability makes it difficult for me to lose weight and it's been a massive struggle and expense so this is a real kick in the teeth.

It’s a BMI of 40 not 30, or 37.5 for certain ethnicities, and 4 co-morbidities not 2.

Don’t forget, Oushk are some of the more expensive ones x

I’ve been using Oushk for maintenance (did 6 months of active losing with ZAVA and now up to 7 months of maintenance with Oushk) and as maintenance option fhey’ve been relatively affordable due to the codes they issue and their free shipping offer. I pay less for 5mg with Oushk than I did with ZAVA.

Not much use for those currently losing but I figured it was worth pointing out for those who are nearing the end of their losses journey.

I’ve no idea how todays announcements will effect Oushk’s maintenance policy yet but I expect they will email current patients/customers as soon as their policy is finalised.

Did you contact them or just take from Reddit? Just wondering as the Reddit pic is a piece of paper and I don’t want to put too much trust into it 🤣

upandleftthenright · 14/08/2025 21:30

Wegovy works just as well and you can stay on it for more than 2 years if prescribed privately. I’d switch. Must be some good offers pending

mumsmum2034 · 14/08/2025 21:30

Yup 177% increase i will have to switch to wegovy

No, to get on the NHS you need 4 of 5 of a list of comorbidities

This isn’t helpful.

NanFlanders · 14/08/2025 21:33

I'm just gutted. It's the only thing that worked for me - gained loads of weight due to taking (necessary) meds. I've lost 4.5 stone on Mounjaro and my BP, chloresterol and musculoskeletal pain are nearly back to normal. I'm really stretching to afford the current prices - definitely can't do £170 increased. I could just cry.

sweetpickle2 · 14/08/2025 21:35

I can’t afford to bulk order so will have to just order my usual next pen and take my chances after that- my prescriber WePrescribe is totally out of stock of MJ as of today so hoping they get more stock by the time I need to re-order in the next week or so. Really frustrating.

nomas · 14/08/2025 21:39

I’m not on any WLIs yet but was planning to start soon.

Could anyone recommend what dose to stockpile on as a newbie?

StrikeForever · 14/08/2025 21:42

RH1234 · 14/08/2025 20:01

Privately purchased, different to prescribed. “Prescribed” will be through the NHS usually for health reasons, rather than weight loss.

Ps I am allowed to disagree with it. Mainly down to the fact, I know a few people with diabetes who struggled to get their regular medication due to supply chain issues (it being sold privately).

Apologies if you don’t like my opinion.

I do disagree with the pricing situation, hence I did say I hope people can find an alternative.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion, but why are you here pushing that opinion on a thread where it’s irrelevant? How bored do you have to be with life to choose to do this?

They are live on Tik Tok now and have given these prices

thanks for the correction, I knew you had to be pretty poorly for the NHS to prescribe but didn't realise it was 4

Oh incredible. So these are post Eli Lilly increase? I feel much happier now!

justasking111 · 14/08/2025 21:45

THCV in marijuana and some CBD oil is an appetite suppressant.

I expect Trumps lot to be pushing hard for an alternative to these pen shots. He doesn't like being held to ransom by individual pharmaceutical companies.

The date on the bottom of that TikTok says 1st May. Assume this relates to something else.

I know we shouldn’t expect anything less, but it hurts my soul a bit that some people are enjoying this.

Imagine actually feeling that way about another human being and their struggles. All because some people are fat. It really is seen as the worst possible thing you can be. Some of these people will have daughters. What a messed up place to be in your head.

If this was about people with anorexia, and there was a jab that made their thoughts and feelings go away, made them eat, and it was going to be taken away, the responses would be different. Or would they just be told to eat more? I doubt it. No empathy or feeling is reserved for fat people. Fat women especially. They deserve it. Stupid fat people. They need to suffer for their sin.

I know we take the piss with the bingo card bla bla bla - but this really is insidious stuff.

Glad I’m not like that. Genuinely.

Thinking of us all tonight.

You’d think people would be happier that overweight people are getting slimmer and reducing reliance on NHS in later years hopefully.

notnorman · 14/08/2025 21:48

igivein · 14/08/2025 14:25

I normally re-order the week before I need a new pen, and have never stockpiled (couldn't see the point).
Had a re-order now email the other day from MedExpress and have just reordered, even though I still have 3 more doses in my current pen.
If they send me another email in 2 weeks (it's usually 2 weeks after the previous order) I might be able to get another one in before the price rises.
If the price bounces up (or goes up at all) I'll have saved myself some money. If it doesn't, the pens will get used anyway, so no loss.
I don't think this is panic buying, although I admit I panicked a bit when I opened the thread. The only issue I can foresee is if I get ahead of myself with ordering and then leave a bit of a gap, I might struggle to get a subsequent prescription.
I bet I'm not the only person banging in an early order today.
Thanks for the patient explanations @TheRealGoose , you've calmed me down somewhat 😁

Exactly my plan. Medexpress website was very slow tonight so guessing it’s been busy

Don't, go for Wegovy. I lost my weight on it and it works just as well.
