Big price increases?

Anyone else seen this chatter about massive price increases announced for MJ (to pharmacies) in the last hour or so?

Very concerning as it looks like it could double the cost of some of the doses. I'll try to find the copy of the letter sent out...

How many pens are people aiming to stock up on?

None. I have one due to arrive on the 27th and my next order will go in about the 7th of September. Im more concerned about others than I am about myself as I can (very grudgingly) cover the extra cost and I’m not going to be on it much longer anyway. I’m at target tomorrow then I’ll titrate down from my 10 as planned from this coming Tuesday, and hopefully be off it completely in mid December. I’m going to just stick to my plan and not chase after pens because at 67 I’d rather not have the stress of it when there’s so many other things for me to get stressed about. 😊

If you medically need it you'd get it on nhs as does my work colleague . The supply is sometimes in danger as so many are buying it privately, so using a like it said do it the old fashioned way, its endangering people who need it. The privite sale of it to other countries online is why supply can become an issue, this is why they need to bring the price up to match, it stops uk buyers from buying to sell on for profit.

It’s very hard to get on the NHS. My friend has a BMI over 50 high cholesterol high blood pressure and sleep apnea. But need 4 out of 5 health conditions and she only has 3, so not eligible.

This is a discussion board not a peer reviewed academic journal. Either contribute or bugger off.

You're funny

Fatmumslim01 · 14/08/2025 20:46

I can't decide what to do. I was due to order my next pen in a few days anyway so debating bulk buying but I won't know what dose to be on in a few months so what to order now.

What are other people doing?

Maybe the price wont go up too much in sept. I've already had an email from ME saying they will hold prices as long as possible (although they are more expensive anyway)

Yes, the naivety of that assumption is almost touching.

It's funny that you have the internet to hand yet didn't think to have a quick Google to see if anything you typed was factually accurate 😆

chowmeinz · 14/08/2025 20:40

The poster who is being asked said they could get it with a starting BMI of 24. Not as maintenance.

So then you’d need to see a doctor who can make a decision to prescribe off licence. I know people who have done this…. Don’t know who the doctors are but it was covered in a channel 4 dispatches.

What? You think the weight just magically melts off with every injection?

Of course it does. What else do you think that puddle your lying in every morning is?

PresidentBarklett · 14/08/2025 20:48

Anyway. Ignoring the absolute dunderheads coming out of the woodwork, let's get back on track. Hira at Oushk said in her live this evening that the highest dose would probably be around £320 per month. It's pretty bad, but she also said she'd be switching those who can't afford over to Wegovy.

RubyBirdy · 14/08/2025 20:48

I can’t even log in to MedExpress so I definitely think everyone is bulk panic buying.

£320 is too rich for my blood.

I may look at titrating down to a lower and more affordable dose for the last stone and then to take me into a solid maintenance.

Um, no. The NHS doesn’t authorise lots of drugs for people who genuinely need them due tp oat constraints, even things like cancer drugs are not always made available to people who need them. This is basic stuff.

This is weight loss...you really think that the majority of people who buy it cant lose the weight through diet and exercise? They are putting the price up to protect supply for the people who medically need it.

This is utter toss though. Am I to assume that you and your colleague are just not very bright?

I think I'm going to scrimp and save to stay on 12.5 until I get to goal and then go to Wegovy for maintenance.

NeuroSpicyCat · 14/08/2025 19:16

If you’re >30BMI, you will not be able to switch.

Why not? I don’t get this, >30BMI meets the original prescribing criteria so why wouldn’t someone obese be able to swap?

RubyBirdy · 14/08/2025 20:53

Has anyone taken Wegovy? What is it like in comparison to Mounjaro?

This just isn't true.

I have a complex pituitary condition, starting bmi of 34 and metabolic syndrome. My endocrinologist recommended i started it. There is a push for research for mounjaro and the endocrine condition i have but it is so extremely rare that it will never be a priority.

The nhs won't prescribe it for me as it is not indicated for the specific condition i have and i don't meet the nhs bmi, despite having terrible markers for metabolic syndrome.

So i will forfeit my holidays and find the money, as that is better than dieing from a heart attack or having a stroke in my 40s/50s.

Oh it’s ok, I’ve just read this and have my answer. What a deeply unpleasant person you must be in real life.

Wrong.

Actually so wrong I can't even be arsed being embarrassed for you.

@IrisPallida Some people are so fucking thick they couldn’t find their arse with both hands and a flashlight.

You have to exercise on the jabs?

Yes, obviously, if you don't want to lose a lot of muscle mass
