Big price increases?

Anyone else seen this chatter about massive price increases announced for MJ (to pharmacies) in the last hour or so?

Very concerning as it looks like it could double the cost of some of the doses. I'll try to find the copy of the letter sent out...

Isn’t BED an eating disorder?

Yes, but it does not have the control element and as a result needs treating quite differently. It also responds to medication so there is a significant physical causative component - MJ is actually being trialled for this I believe.

Why on earth would you think it's ok to 'be on it for life'
Completely defeats the objective of learning calorie control and proper nutrition whilst on it to reach your goal.
As a diabetic I am pleased it's going to be harder for the general public to get it. It's medicine for goodness sake. Even getting it with my GP I had to commit to scheduled blood tests and full health checks to keep me safe and healthy on it. Those wanting to take it for life because they can't learn some control is ridiculous

Nobody cares whether you think its ridiculous. Being diabetic doesn't qualify you to have an opinion on obesity management, nor to define what 'the objective' is. Dunning Kruger.

And hopefully it will irritate you to know that some of us could still afford higher prices if necessary. I'll switch to wegovy if I can, cos I'm only about a stone from maintenence level anyway, but if I can't then it'll still be the dearer mounjaro for me.

Not to mention the people who are buying it privately are undoubtedly saving the NHS a fortune too!

Yes! That's what I meant. I'm paying a fortune to save the NHS money!

ChungkingDreamer · 14/08/2025 20:28

Braygirlnow · 14/08/2025 20:28

🤣🤣🤣

What? You think the weight just magically melts off with every injection?

Moana987 · 14/08/2025 20:29

ChungkingDreamer · 14/08/2025 20:24

I mean, you have to do that on the jabs. Shame they don’t make jabs to stop people being smug cunts isn’t it?

👏

Some really nasty posters on here. Why are you even hanging out in the WLI forum if you’re not taking them?

So they can take a swipe at the fat folk. The faux concern they've been voicing has morphed into barely disguised glee today. It really is pathetic.

I wish you all the best with getting sorted.

Quite rightly I’m going to back out this thread, apologies for offence caused. I honestly hope anyone affected gets sorted, either with price changes or alternatives.

Wait! Surely you're not leaving before letting me know which online pharmacy would prescribe you MJ when you only have a BMI of 24?

Surely, you won't knowingly allow a pharmacy to continue to trade illegally and potentially risk the health of innocent patients???

That was supposed to be flowers emoji @Changeforthis79 but it wouldn't post

Can we ignore the nasty gloating posters? My fear is that MNHQ will just delete the thread if it gets too heated and I, for one, am finding it an immense source of support.

The difference is the CFO of Novo Nordisk (makers of Wegovy) came out the other day to say they may lower their prices for the US market due to Trump's demands.

Eli Lilly have decided to raise MJ prices in the UK rather than lower them in the US.

Of course, Weogvy's sales are currently suffering due to MJ. If that starts to reverse, Novo Nordisk may change their pricing strategy. Time will tell.

They all have to lower their prices.

They can prescribe at a BMI of 24 (or less) if you previously had a higher BMI and can provide evidence.

This is incorrect

NeuroSpicyCat · 14/08/2025 20:34

Why are you so bothered

chowmeinz · 14/08/2025 20:36

NeuroSpicyCat · 14/08/2025 20:34

This is incorrect

It’s definitely not. Lots of pharmacies support maintenance below 24

what they won’t do is prescribe to the person who is BMI 24 starting point

Wistfullysleepy · 14/08/2025 20:38

RH1234 · 14/08/2025 19:54

We heard this on the news today and my wife turned to me and said “you said that would happen”

Don’t get me wrong but it appears to be identical to the episode in Black Mirror where the subscription for brain surgery just keeps increasing.

Once people are on a drug that’s works for them, increase the price…

I don’t agree with the need for the injections, however, for what it’s worth, I hope there is an alternative/way to switch to a different product for those who are now on it. Just have caution, they will likely increase their prices in the future too.

Hopefully, those who need the medication for diabetes through the NHS are not affected too.

Did everybody then clap you?

fucking hell….

Something Juniper, I think off the top of my head.

However, another poster said:
”they probably aren’t aware that it then gets sent on, and often refunded, after you pay”

Well of course I’m not aware as I didn’t pay. But it looked very much like they would just send me.

Genuinely, as I have said multiple times now, good luck all.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 14/08/2025 20:38

My DP works in this industry and these drugs won’t be coming off patent in most of the world until about 10 years time. There are generic versions waiting to go. I think they are launching in Canada, but at the moment the patents elsewhere are preventing the generics coming through. Have hope though that in the future we’ll have alternatives.

SaintAgatha · 14/08/2025 20:13

@RH1234 I’d be interested to find out which pharmacist would prescribe MJ when your BMI is 24. Would you be open to sharing that info? Because they need to be reported.

It’s set out clearly on the Monj website. Most of the pharmacies support maintenance for those with a BMI under 27, some as low as 19.

chowmeinz · 14/08/2025 20:40

MeridaBrave · 14/08/2025 20:39

The poster who is being asked said they could get it with a starting BMI of 24. Not as maintenance.

doodleschnoodle · 14/08/2025 20:41

Except that’s a bit irrelevant as that poster isn’t on MJ, so they would be coming as a new patient. They would not be eligible to start taking MJ at 24BMI at any reputable pharmacy. Maintenance is a different story.

MessageMystery · 14/08/2025 20:42

With any luck UK pharmacies will have seen this coming and bought as much stock as possible at the current price.

If you medically need it you'd get it on nhs as does my work colleague . The supply is sometimes in danger as so many are buying it privately, so using a like it said do it the old fashioned way, its endangering people who need it. The privite sale of it to other countries online is why supply can become an issue, this is why they need to bring the price up to match, it stops uk buyers from buying to sell on for profit.

tobee · 14/08/2025 20:42

Elli Lilly are making hay while the sun shines. They are the favoured drug and compared better than Wegovy in trials. Other drugs are in development (their own pill as well) and when/if licensed they will probably re assess.

Fewer people are currently using Wegovy when it was all the rage not long ago.
