Big price increases?

CoverMeInMarmalade · 14/08/2025 11:45

Anyone else seen this chatter about massive price increases announced for MJ (to pharmacies) in the last hour or so?

Very concerning as it looks like it could double the cost of some of the doses. I'll try to find the copy of the letter sent out...

Anyone NOT panic buying/stockpiling? I can get another 4 weeks out of my current pen, I hope this has all calmed down by then and there is stock left. Just noticed Swift Doctor have suspended sales and my pharmacy are showing out of the higher doses. Feeling very sorry for anyone coming up to needing a new pen and they've all be bought by those with fridges chocked full of the fucking stuff.

In 4 weeks time you will be paying the higher prices so if you are happy with that then carry on but most of us dont want to do that so will get as many as we can!

CoverMeInMarmalade · 14/08/2025 19:32

whitepowerbank · 14/08/2025 19:31

Oushk are however out of stock on 15 and 12.5, presumably because of a spike in orders on hearing this.

Yeah, they did a FB event earlier this afternoon and said people could order up to 3 pens at the current price to help mitiagte the increase, so I think loads of people have gone and done just that.

Even though you may force someone else not to have access to the drug at all?

You know, I can hear you gleefully rubbing your hands together from the other side of the Internet.

Are you as vindictive and begrudging in other aspects of your life too?

Yes, what a shame that this thread, so full of up to the minute information, could not have been purely supportive. It really does show some peoples true colours.

I hope nobody is feeling too hopeless tonight. It will become clearer tomorrow where we go from here. The first reports are always the most scare mongering.

They will still be able to get it, they will just have to go to a more expensive supplier!

NeuroSpicyCat · 14/08/2025 19:36

DareDevil223 · 14/08/2025 19:16

Nobody does of course. It shouldn't surprise me that some posters want to come onto a thread where people are worried about not being able to afford something that has changed their life for the better just to be an utter cunt and yet...

Humans never fail to disappoint.

What reason do people have to be bitter?

I don’t know about other suppliers but Oushk themselves suggested patients order the 3 pens before Sept 1 to get them at the lower prices. Given there could be hundreds of pounds of difference between ordering now and in two weeks’ time, I don’t really blame anyone for taking advantage of that. DH isn’t on any social media but I told him to order three pens when I saw Oushk suggested it,

LifeOfAShowGirl · 14/08/2025 19:36

Puppylucky · 14/08/2025 19:28

I'm no expert but given how competitive pricing has been up until now across various pharmacies why are we all assuming that all the pharmacies will pass all of the increase in cost directly on to the customer? I understand that smaller /newer pharmacies such as Oushk may have no choice but why should a large established player in the wider online pharmacy market such as Med Express or Cloud not decide to take a hit on supply costs to offer a better deal to consumers? They obviously can decide what to charge to a large extent so can presumably decide how to react to this.

From the way I understand it all pharmacies will now be in discussions with Eli Lilly for discounts on the list price. Smaller pharmacies like Oushk will struggle, while larger ones will be better priced.

Can I genuinely enquire why you are on this thread? You've posted a few comments lacking in empathy on this and other WLI threads. Without the wider context, it does somewhat feel that you might be enjoying yourself a little?

Interesting that you say that as Oushk's lead pharmacist has already said they will support maintenance users in switching.

They will be in conflict with UK licence criteria and the GPhC’s high-risk verification rules.

Arraminta · 14/08/2025 19:38

justasking111 · 14/08/2025 19:07

You beat me to that. Sounds much more practical too

Yes. Much quicker and cheaper to manufacture. Also much cheaper to distribute because it won't need have refrigerator packaging.

Triumphofdiplomacy · 14/08/2025 19:38

NeuroSpicyCat · 14/08/2025 19:24

Did she actually say any of that?

She actually puts it as ‘she’ll be embarrassed to eat normally around people who are on it and have no appetite as it will look like she’s greedy’. I know exactly what she actually means - she is worried that they may be smaller than her. She puts her whole self worth on the fact she’s naturally slim.

Weepixie · 14/08/2025 19:39

NeuroSpicyCat · 14/08/2025 19:24

I don’t think you saw my previous post to you?

Are you on WLI’s or are you just happily going through the thread (very deliberately) being as negative as you can for the fun of it? I only ask because that’s what it looks like to me and not just because of what you did earlier today on another thread. You know, the one where you deliberately sought out another poster on her thread where she spoke of being in financial hardship and asked her how she’d afford her Mounjaro now there was going to be a price increase. It was so soon after the news broke that it’s obvious you did it deliberately, just as you’ve gone through this thread posting as much doom and despondency as you can muster just for the fun of it.

Just stop it. What you’re doing really isn’t a good look and it says a lot about you.

The discounts that the pharmacies extract from EL are to protect their bottom line, but the price they choose to charge customers is in their gift - they can choose to take more or less of the price hike hit themselves to keep prices lower if they choose to. TBH I think this has been a bit of a bonanza for the pharmacy industry and they now have to decide how they manage this and keep customers going forwards.

Sorry I'm being incredibly thick (probably worry related) but I don't really understand the document and what this means in real terms for customers. Would really appreciate clarification from someone cleverer than me!

Or is the bitterness imagined?

I wouldn't have the answer to that, being that I wasn't the person you aimed your question at. My question to you was based on the larger context of your posting activity today. @Weepixie has also asked similar.

It's so lovely to see posts from people such as @MissFancyDay and helpful as @TheRealGoose (and others!) to counteract the viciously gleeful ploppers on here ❤️

Bear in mind these are pre-pharmacy mark-up; this is the wholesale price the pharmacy will pay to buy the medication. They then add on their mark-up to sell it to customers. So that 15mg at that wholesale price would likely be £300 for a customer once pharmacy mark-up is added.

Edited

Which lines up with Oushk's estimate on their prices post rise. £150 for 2.5mg, rising to £300 for 15mg. Just an estimate from them at this stage.

There's going to be a shortage now for some

I've fought all my life with PCOS I swear on top of fertility issues, etc weight gain has been my nemesis. GPs just shrugged whenever I bought it up. One GP said to me when I started having trouble walking to lose weight and I'd be fine.

Two years later many painkillers a wrecked stomach between the pain and the nausea weight has come off. Finally went private, had an x-ray. Both hips totally fooked, radiographer said you must be in agony. Consultant said ball joint eaten away, bone has drifted upwards. I'm having surgery in October.

I'm tired of the NHS trotting out the same excuses for the nations health. If it's not weight it's those two glasses of wine you have, your lack of a gym membership/physio. 15k steps a day, Smoking etc etc. Any excuse to save money.

This week put in my repeat prescription. A woman phoned. The GP wants to know why you need cocodamol, omeprazole and Gaviscon. Said that the painkillers were part of my daily list alongside paracetamol and ibuprofen. The omeprazole and gaviscon were for my wrecked stomach and the senior partner had prescribed them. 🤬🤬🤬

I'm really sorry all of you are facing increases in prices of this magnitude 😩
