Big price increases?

Anyone else seen this chatter about massive price increases announced for MJ (to pharmacies) in the last hour or so?

Very concerning as it looks like it could double the cost of some of the doses. I'll try to find the copy of the letter sent out...

Which lines up with Oushk's estimate on their prices post rise. £150 for 2.5mg, rising to £300 for 15mg. Just an estimate from them at this stage.

Is that on their FB page? I haven’t seen that yet!

I wouldn't have the answer to that, being that I wasn't the person you aimed your question at. My question to you was based on the larger context of your posting activity today. @Weepixie has also asked similar.

It’s so obvious what they’re doing and they’ve been at it for hours - I first challenged them on another thread regarding their very deliberate and cruel behaviour hours ago.

It was aimed at me and I didn't even mention the word bitter. I said that some people are cunts and I'm not wrong!

How sad their life be to bother doing that kind of thing? They’re best ignored, I think.

NeuroSpicyCat · 14/08/2025 19:53

I’m bemused by the drama.

Either:

WLI give people “the edge” and therefore those who can’t access them are disadvantaged (and understandably bitter)

or:

WLI are a medical treatment for the disease of obesity, in which case you can switch to Wegovy because you’re >30 BMI.

Why all the doom and gloom “lives will be lost” panic?

Arraminta · 14/08/2025 19:53

Weepixie · 14/08/2025 19:49

I think we may have cross posted.

Im completely in agreement with you regarding this poster. Its obvious they’re only here for the sport.

Yes. In my experience, people who take a perverse delight in other peoples' unhappiness or fear, are always, always deeply unhappy themselves.

RH1234 · 14/08/2025 19:54

We heard this on the news today and my wife turned to me and said “you said that would happen”

Don’t get me wrong but it appears to be identical to the episode in Black Mirror where the subscription for brain surgery just keeps increasing.

Once people are on a drug that’s works for them, increase the price…

I don’t agree with the need for the injections, however, for what it’s worth, I hope there is an alternative/way to switch to a different product for those who are now on it. Just have caution, they will likely increase their prices in the future too.

Hopefully, those who need the medication for diabetes through the NHS are not affected too.

No, it was mentioned in their live event - a recording of which is on FB.

You are SO right about that Black Mirror thing.
Either that or there is some secret deal going on with the suppliers and the NHS so that private patients supplement the cost of supplying it to the NHS.

I don’t know why I’m replying but obviously if you knew anything about obesity, you would know the effects of it on the body don’t just vanish when your BMI drops below 30, so lots of people won’t be able to just switch and will be left without the help they need. Also we govt is not nearly as effective as Mounjaro.

Welcome to big pharma…

Sorry for anyone who works in pharmaceuticals, I’m allowed to be a conspiracy theorist on something haha

Ah yes I watched that, I thought maybe they had published a list of expected prices in text format.

Their page is in overdrive right now, a lot of panic and people trying to order out of stock jabs. I wonder what impact this will have on these smaller pharmacies whose fortunes have risen entirely with Mounjaro.

Radio 4 6 o clock news covered it

I think you should go and look at a proper news source, not your wife or your social media or Netflix.

The increase is because Donald Trump has demanded parity for US customers from the drug companies.

It has nothing to do with the price the NHS pay for medication.

Cherryontop56 · 14/08/2025 20:01

Ive just received my first pen, so typical for this to happen. I wanted to start sooner but couldn’t as I was pregnant/breastfeeding.

Privately purchased, different to prescribed. “Prescribed” will be through the NHS usually for health reasons, rather than weight loss.

Ps I am allowed to disagree with it. Mainly down to the fact, I know a few people with diabetes who struggled to get their regular medication due to supply chain issues (it being sold privately).

Apologies if you don’t like my opinion.

I do disagree with the pricing situation, hence I did say I hope people can find an alternative.

It's a prescription only medication. You need to be prescribed it, a private prescription is still a prescription.

I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility that people who feel that Mounjaro has been absolutely life changing for them after many years of failing to conquer obesity, may feel absolutely bereft at the prospect of not being able to afford to continue. This could drive people to steal and commit crime or go into terrible debt in order to fund their mounjaro habit in the same way that drug dependent people do. It's more of an emotional/psychological dependency than a physical one.

To have got halfway down the road to health and normality and finally having confidence in how you look, only to have the rug pulled from under you long before you feel able to manage the rest of the job by yourself will be a terrible blow for some people. It could drive them to absolute depression and despair. Anyone who has never struggled with their weight and body image would not understand.

I didn’t mention the cause being NHS paying for it.. that was another poster.

I only compared to Netflix as it’s uncanny.

Either way, the “law of economics” works on supply and demand…doesn’t matter who instigates.

It’s not a difficult thing to get, my BMI is 24 and one website would “prescribe” it me..

Oh your ignorance is shining bright.

Mounjaro is prescribed by a pharmacist. It might be a private prescription, but most definitely a prescription nonetheless.
