Big price increases?

Anyone else seen this chatter about massive price increases announced for MJ (to pharmacies) in the last hour or so?

Very concerning as it looks like it could double the cost of some of the doses. I'll try to find the copy of the letter sent out...

Why on earth would you think it's NOT ok to be on it for life? Why on earth would you come on a thread like this and say such pointlessly goady and rude crap? Nobody here cares what you think about our choices about our bodies and health needs. I certainly hope you're not type 2 diabetic and obese because if you are you're a massive hypocrite as well as being a cloth eared clod.

Agreed. The lack of empathy is just startling.

Why on earth would you think it's ok to 'be on it for life'
Completely defeats the objective of learning calorie control and proper nutrition whilst on it to reach your goal.
As a diabetic I am pleased it's going to be harder for the general public to get it. It's medicine for goodness sake. Even getting it with my GP I had to commit to scheduled blood tests and full health checks to keep me safe and healthy on it. Those wanting to take it for life because they can't learn some control is ridiculous

It may have been better for you to ask rather than ask rudely and declare your pleasure. Many medicines are prescribed for multiple purposes, this medicine is prescribed for diabetes, and obesity and shortly for cardio vascular, liver and kidney disease , it is never been the case all medicines are only ever used to treat one health issues.

in this instance it is a prescribed medication for obesity, which is a long term chronic health condition you still suffer from even when your weight goes down. I don’t think anyone here wishes to educate you, google would be your friend. People getting it for obesity doesn’t stop diabetics also getting it, so your pleasure at people in difficulty is unpleasant however I accept it comes from a place of ignorance,

I guess this will show which users have used Mounjaro as a tool to retain their eating habits and which users will very soon be fat again.

Hecatoncheires · 14/08/2025 19:00

Question for those of you eking out a higher dose pen. How do you do that? How do you administer less than the dose?

doodleschnoodle · 14/08/2025 19:01

Orangesandlemons77 · 14/08/2025 18:57

That's good to hear. There is a sub on Reddit for people coming off - often those in the US whose insurance just covers them for a set time. It is called "GLP Grad"

Yes I’m a member there! Never posted but I enjoy looking at the stories. I think there’s increasing knowledge about nutrition and diet now that makes maintaining easier and more achievable, and I also think that in the UK, we have access to better quality food generally than in the US, which is perhaps where a lot of the studies are done. UK is certainly an obeseogenic environment but the US is on another level in terms of cultural attitudes towards food and the proliferation of UPFs.

Of course, it’s more complicated than that, but sure.

I wish people would read the latest research on obesity before spouting off.

ColinVsCuthbert · 14/08/2025 19:01

In the US because it is so massively unaffordable, unless you are very rich or have a prescription people use compounded semaglutide in place of the name drugs. They run at $150 a month vs the $1000+ for the real deal. The knock against them is that they aren't as well tested as the main drugs so there is a real risk taking them. It will be interesting to see if this comes to the UK market as an option. Personally, I've taken them and have seen real results. A lot of them are compounded by adding vitamin D or something to lessen nausea or something which is how they get around the rules here and can be sold.

I take 10mg from a 15mg pen which is 40 clicks. You change the clicks.

I then take the bonus dose so instead of 0.6ml I take 0.4ml for example

SaintAgatha · 14/08/2025 18:42

Actually I agree with @PresidentBarklett and they’re being very measured in their comments to you. You need to re-centre yourself.

It's cool. It's a really difficult day.

WhineAndWine1 · 14/08/2025 19:02

Does anyone know if you can buy more than one pen with Asda ?

Weepixie · 14/08/2025 19:04

ColinVsCuthbert · 14/08/2025 18:39

@Weepixie it is not unless extremely overweight/prediabetic etc. I need to lose c.20lbs which isn't considered enough, so if I get it I pay out of pocket.

Thank you for explaining. There’s a young mum on Instagram, her names Kaylla McCullough Spencer and I like to pop into her page every so often. I can recall when she was on it she mentioned 1000 dollars a shot but I want sure if it was on insurance or if she paid for it, and just how many dose were in the one shot. We get 4 in a pen in the Uk.

The price of the shot made my eyes water regardless of how many doses were in it.

SilenceInside · 14/08/2025 19:04

@ColinVsCuthbert the UK rules around prescription medication and Lilly holding the patent means that compounded medication would not be a possibility here.

So how much is Wegovy compare to MJ?
is that the plan then? Everyone who is on MJ privately in the U.K. and who cannot afford double price will move to Wegovy?

is it that much of a saving?

tbh Wegovy was not available when I started MJ so I didn’t really look into it……

anyone have any experience to share on pricing?

I’ve not actually looked to compare as yet but Monj have a wegovy comparison site

Arraminta · 14/08/2025 18:37

A tablet version of MJ is due to hit the market next Spring. This will be much cheaper to manufacture and distribute etc. A lot of the cost of MJ is down to the manufacturing cost of the pen.

You beat me to that. Sounds much more practical too

AhBiscuits · 14/08/2025 19:07

Wegovy is fantastic. No need to panic, make the switch if you can and price is a problem.

I've used Mounjaro as a tool to reset my eating habits but I would also probably regain a significant amount of weight if I came off it, because obesity is a disease. It's not a matter of being uneducated about food.

Count the clicks. 10 clicks is 2.5mg.

Some prices are showing as significantly higher on monj.co.uk than they were two hours ago when I checked to email my prescriber.

Efrogwraig · 14/08/2025 19:13

It's Trump! Or rather this has given Eli Lilly an excuse to up its prices.

Do you have any links? While Mazdutide is being studied it’s not been submitted to the MHRA yet.

NeuroSpicyCat · 14/08/2025 19:16

I'm wandering if pharmacies recommending looking at alternatives (such as Wegovy) is them giving themselves a bit of leverage with their negotiations with Lilly? Or am I just wishful thinking? 🤔

If you’re >30BMI, you will not be able to switch.
