NSV of sorts: I haven't ordered Deliveroo in 7 weeks since starting, so they gave me a £10 credit. (Which makes me a little scared about what I must have been spending on Deliveroo, that they want me back.) Used it on a posh Dishoom chicken salad bowl with greens and no dressing, well within my targets for the day, and was perfectly satisfied despite no naan and no starters.

Between cutting out Deliveroo and cutting way back on alcohol, I may actually be coming out ahead money-wise on MJ.

PearlsPearl · 11/08/2025 08:25

I definitely think the jabs are cost neutral for me on the amount I’m saving on takeaways and going out for meals. Rarely do either now. And the endless binge food.

Motnight · 11/08/2025 09:02

I had some golden months when I was saving money food and clothes wise by being on MJ. Now at a point where this isn't the case regarding clothes as I have run out of all the smaller sizes I had in my wardrobe. But must be saving at least £75 a month on food.

Fffreeeeezing · 11/08/2025 09:41

I seem to be the only one whose grocery bills has rocketed! This weeks shopping had £15 of Greek yoghurt alone, plus copious amounts of avocados, meat, eggs and cottage cheese and and let's not even go there with the supplements 🫣

GnomeDePlume · 11/08/2025 10:32

Not sure if I am missing something, I'm not taking any supplements. We are eating a lot more vegetables though that is coming from the allotment at the moment (not free if you saw the amount I spend on seeds, fertiliser etc).

Other than that, we are spending less on meat, bread, milk, starters etc.

SilenceInside · 11/08/2025 10:52

I only take the multivitamins and vegetarian omega capsules that I have always taken. I get them from Holland & Barrett and make use of their offers to stock up. Collagen and protein supplements are pretty popular I think, which I guess could add up and be pricey. I did look at the vegetarian "collagen" supplements but they are just fancy multivitamins really, and there's absolutely no evidence that they do anything at all so it was an easy decision to avoid them.

My shopping bill has gone down, as I am not buying all the extras that I used to overeat with (icecream, chocolate, biscuits....), and a lot less bread, butter, jam, crisps and so on. Being vegetarian I guess I don't have the cost of buying meat, and I have always bought things like Greek yoghurt, avocados, eggs, cottage cheese and so on. It was always the amount of food that I ate was too much, plus the additional extras that I would "treat" myself to. We are also saving money on not having takeaways, which used to be far too often.

mamabeeboo · 11/08/2025 10:57

Agree to the cost. As of late, food and snacks has become so expensive. DH loved his M&Ms bowl every evening which is now around £4 a pack. We could easy spend £20 on just his snacks for the week, plus 2-3 takeaways circa £200 a month. Plus a fridge load of food and I'd still be wandering around saying I'm hungry🙃

We are definitely better off on MJ. I eat one main meal plus one light meal or snack in the day and that's it. The only downside is that I haven't gotten used to cooking for less - so a lot of food is going to waste. I was looking at freezing some food, but pasta/noodles etc don't taste too nice after freezing and the kids won't eat it.

My go-to snack for this week - Grapes! So tasty 😊

PinkArt · 11/08/2025 11:02

I'm averaging £29 a week on Mounjaro and I'm pretty sure I'm breaking even with food savings. That's a deliveroo, assorted bits of chocolate, breakfast that I don't always have now.

Fffreeeeezing · 11/08/2025 11:40

I live on my own so rarely had crisps and snacks in the house and didn't often have takeaways (I live in a small fairly rural town and we don't have a lot of takeaway options) as I can never get to the minimum order amount required! Am saving on chocolate costs though 🤣. I take psyllium, Magnesium and probiotics for digestion issues, broad spectrum multivitamin and minerals (have done this every since I can remember) pill, bovine collagen, turmeric tablets (these have made the hugest difference to my life, they are magical when it comes to joint pain) and I've recently started L-Tyrosine supplements although I'm not sure they are doing much to be honest so may give these the boot soon. I make sure I get my daily dose of chia seeds in my breakfast as well for fibre although I'm not sure they are classed as supplements.

Doggymummar · 11/08/2025 11:53

I haven't bought much food for myself for a long time now. Staples are haagen dazs Little ice cream tubs that I have one a day, fancy coffee stcks 2 or three a day and Langley farm cottage cheese, so about £15 a week. We do have two chest freezers full of fish, veg and chicken and greggs pasties that never seem to get less filled and my cupboard full of tinned fish, pulses and soups pasta noodles etc. I am trying to run these down before buying anything else but I'm always tempted with something. I also have a loaf of bread in the freezer I have been eating since April. That's the biggest change I think, I used to eat at least 8 slices of toast a day.

I’m saving a fortune on food - my weekly grocery delivery used to be £100 and is now £60 (just me and 19 year old at home and she doesn’t eat much - she’s out a lot or at her boyfriends). I no longer pop to the shop after work for a meal deal/ready meal when I can’t be bothered to cook, I don’t buy crisps and chocolate every day like I used to and I never get takeaways anymore. I do still eat out a couple of times a month with friends but eat and drink less than I used to. I do take supplements, but they’re not really expensive, I have multivitamins, calcium and collagen. I’m definitely better off on mounjaro than I was before!

afaloren · 11/08/2025 12:47

Another one spending less on food and drink. The people in my local Co-op probably think I’ve died Grin I used to be in there every day! Now I do my proper weekly shop, with a meal plan, and don’t need to do top-ups. Amazing.

Also wanted to pop on and say I’ve been to the gym twice while on holiday! Believe me when I say this would NEVER have happened eight stone ago.

TragicMuse · 11/08/2025 13:31

I don’t buy lunch at work which is a definite saving! And we do have less shopping overall. I think it probably balances out at the moment.

Onenotsosmallstep · 11/08/2025 14:52

I’ve been holding off posting a few days as didn’t want to bring the positivity down but I’ve hit the ‘flat’ point a lot of people have talked about and hoping for some advice to snap me out of it. After 20 weeks I’ve lost 4st 8lbs and gone from a BMI of 52.6 to 42.8, which is all great. BUT there’s still such a slog to go. We also went camping this weekend with friends and despite being much fitter than I was 6 months ago I still couldn’t keep up when walking up big hills that others found no problem. I feel great buying a size 20 dress and daring to think about jeans again when the 24s I couldn’t fit into before I started are really too big to wear now but I am still by most people’s standards still very large. Top tips to stop feeling so down on myself? Not planning on giving up and am happy with current 8.75mg dose, just feel fed up.

Autumnflowers2 · 11/08/2025 15:18

Back from my holiday
I didn't go over my calories
I didn't even have an alcoholic drink
I didn't have a single nice thing to eat
I ate as near as possible to the usual boring food I eat
I didn't drink much as we were out and about a lot and I didn't have my usual daily swim
And I've put on 2 pounds .
I wouldn't actually mind the gain ,if we had eaten out ,had some nice meals , enjoyed an ice-cream or something different.
Really not happy

Fed up here to
Weight loss has massively slowed down
Feel like I'm at the point most people come of mj , because it's done it's job ,but I still have stones to go

Fffreeeeezing · 11/08/2025 15:35

@OnenotsosmallstepI'm at a very similar stage to you, 22wks and 4st5 down. I am very much feeling the same way, not helped by a 1lb gain last week for no obvious reason! There is a lonngggg way to go, I'm starting 10mg this week.

This doesn't help you in the slightest but more just to let you know you're not on your own in feeling like this, I figure we just need to trust the process and carry on doing what we're doing. On a previous weight loss attempt someone told me if you give up now, you'll never know what you would have lost next week. I suppose we can apply that to next March, if we carry on, we could be 9st down by then, think that's what we need to consider.

Apologies for the rambling!

SilenceInside · 11/08/2025 15:37

@Autumnflowers2 and @Onenotsosmallstep I very much had a similar feeling at a similar point, when the length of time that I knew I needed to be on Mounjaro seemed just so long and never ending. I had lost a decent amount but wasn't even anywhere near getting even to half way. I think that's when I stopped reading and posting on the month starters thread as many people were near or at target, and maintenance was the topic of discussion. I only post my weekly update now on that thread and there's only about 2 or 3 other people still losing weight and continuing.

I think what happened to get past this was a mental shift that this was my new normal, that I wasn't taking Mounjaro with an end point in view, rather that I would be on it for the foreseeable especially if I need to stay on it for maintenance. I'm not in the same position as those with 2 or 3 stone to lose who very much see it as a short term process with a definite end point.

I also started to add fitness goals in, as well as weight loss ones. I had avoided any formal exercise when I started on Mounjaro as I was really not capable of more than increasing my walking from a very low starting base.I started with hitting my step count daily and increasing that, and then eventually started the Couch to 5K programme.

And my main thought process is that time will pass regardless, and at least on Mounjaro I will be gradually losing weight even if it's slower than I'd like or more up and down than I'd like.

I'm not taking any supplements, either.

We're definitely spending less on food.

And gin.

And sherry.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 11/08/2025 16:06

@Fffreeeeezing please tell me what dose of turmeric tablets you're taking.
I'd love to have less joint pain.

Doggymummar · 11/08/2025 16:27

I don't take any supplements that I didn't already from my nutritionist when I entered peri. So I have vit d and k mega multivit, cod liver oil in the morning, then HRT magnesium and melatonin or Phernergan at night for sleep. She said otherwise things like biotin and collagen just make expensive pee

I take these ones: https://amzn.eu/d/gnyxf4N

I take 2 a day. I wasn't sure they were doing much until I ran out and didn't replace. Within a week I was in so much pain, so I restarted them and within a week or so felt so much better! I think there are genuine studies that back up Tumeric benefit claims as well, worth a try for £6 and they are tiny pills as well

@Fffreeeeezing @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne I’ll second the turmeric tablets. I ran out on holiday and after a few days I was in no doubt they made a difference! My poor thumbs were soooooo sore.7

@SilenceInside "And my main thought process is that time will pass regardless, and at least on Mounjaro I will be gradually losing weight even if it's slower than I'd like or more up and down than I'd like"

This is so so true. I feel like this, if I wasn't on mj my weight would just continue creeping up as it did over the past 10 years and who knows what state I'd be in another 10 years. At least we're doing something, working on it, working on ourselves.

@mamabeeboo cotton candy grapes are like crack to me at the moment, cold out of the fridge. M&S are my fave but Asda also yummy!

Iwouldratherbesinging · 11/08/2025 17:56

@Onenotsosmallstep @Autumnflowers2 I went through something similar, it’s a never ending long road, no dopamine hits from food and planning food and felt generally down in the dumps but it did pass for me, I really hope it passes for you too. I took a step back to look at how far I had come, where would I be if I hadn’t done this, what can I do so much easier than I couldn’t do back then, do I want to go back there? My life now has to be my new normal so I have to accept this or go back to being even more miserable but with food. I definitely don’t want to do that. I can’t remember how long I felt like that for, I don’t think it was long, and it still occasionally rears its ugly head. I think, even if I stopped losing I would still keep reminding myself of how much I have lost like a mantra.
