Well my goodness. Thread 7. Warriors, we are 6 months in! How life has changed.

To all of you who have made it: many, many congratulations and good luck with the continued maintenance. To the rest of the team still climbing that mountain: we got this, let’s bloody go!!

SW 103.9kg / 16.4 stone
CW 73.4kg / 11.6 stone
TW 72.2kg / 11.4 stone (top end healthy BMI)
Dream weight 68kg / 10.7 stone

Reeeeeeally want to get to target weight before holiday in 10 days time so time really is ticking now! Feel like one of the Lionesses: must keep my cool, bang it in the back of the net and get the job done.

You are all absolutely amazing and the continued support on this group is incredible.

Onwards and downwards! Godspeed for thread 7! xx

P.S. have clearly plagiarised some phrases from some of you good people. Hope you don’t mind: feel they’re part of our thing as a group now so please take it as flattery!

As i have started to think about an end target, I had a quick look at prices with my provider and they've committed to all pre September stock at the same prices for new and existing patients. A 3 month pack of 5mg is £414, higher strength pens seem to be already more expensive but it might be useful for you ladies. It's pharmacyplanet.com

usedtobeaylis · 02/09/2025 13:43

I have sized down in the granny knickers I've been wearing since my daughter was born 10 years ago, from size L to M 😎

Still experiencing a fair bit of low level nausea, it's not pleasant at all.

TheYouYouAre · 02/09/2025 22:43

A weird NSV: Since we moved house 5 years ago, I’ve never been up our rickety tiny loft ladder because I didn’t trust it at my weight. Today, I had the confidence to try the ladder and I’ve finally seen inside of our loft for the first ever time 😂😂

laundryhamper · 02/09/2025 22:54

I have been wearing a bikini on holiday.
Unthinkable six months ago.
Also, I went into the hotel fitness centre and tried to lift two 10kg weights which together are a little bit less than I’ve lost. I couldn’t walk more than about two paces with them and had to put them down…How did I function with that weight???

Gosh you’re brave. Wouldn’t get me up into our loft, no matter how tiny I am. They are frightening spider houses! 😂

I may have to have a try at our attic ladders, I used to get up about 2 steps and think these ladders aint going take my weight, then worried if I'd actually fit through the entrance. Had visions of getting stuck 😂. There'll be allsorts in it, stuff my DH has put in there as 'storage' and stuff I've completely forgotten I have.
There again as mounjaroday says, attics are not only frightening spider houses but ghostie habitats too.

Mounjaroday · 03/09/2025 15:08

Thanks @WoolerOwl for suggesting Couch to 5k.

Happy to report that I have, after months and months of talking about it, finally done some exercise 😳

Turns out running is a lot bloody easier if you’re not hefting around a load of excess weight. Shins didn’t hurt. Pelvic floor held up. All good.

Wouldn’t say I am looking forward to the next one, but on Friday I’m going to get those stupid trainers back on and get out there!

Only problem is my ancient sports bras that have been too small for years are now absolutely massive. My poor boobies deserve better. Oh dear. More shopping beckons.

@Mounjaroday

well done and good luck for Friday's exercise

Mounjaroday · 03/09/2025 21:22

Here’s a question. Over the past few years, I have been in and out of the GP surgery about various ailments - terrible pelvic floor, very dodgy hip, aching shins, UTIs, sleep apnea, anxiety. The list goes on.

Wondering why at no stage did any of the GP’s at my practice suggest I try losing a few pounds.

Because all my issues have pretty much disappeared now I’m not overweight. It has genuinely surprised me what a radical difference it’s made. Essentially, I’m cured!!

Not for a moment throwing shade at my GPs door btw. Not their fault I was fat. Just a genuine question as to why they didn’t at least mention it.
Or are we all so afraid to talk about weight to each other, that our healthcare professionals don’t feel able to raise it with us?

It has really got me pondering!!

I’m down 20 kilos. I was a size 26. Am now fitting into a size 18/20. The funny thing is apart from a couple of friends and my incredibly supportive husband - no one’s really noticed my weight loss!

sc0ttishlass · 03/09/2025 22:43

@Mounjaroday thats a fair question; thinking about it same here. I've known of friends who have been told to lose weight by the doctors but I think they are at the pre diabetes stage. You are so right in that its odd it takes to get to that to mention anyhing. I've lost 50lb to get into healthy bmi so could have been doing with being told of the health impacts! My friend and i were saying today the benefit to the country's health and NHS must br amazing eventually!

Weigh in day here.
Starting 13 stone 5lb
Current 9 stone 9.5lb
51.5lb loss
Bmi 24..

I've got one 10mg pen which ill take and once finished that taper down (quickly as cant afford the pens any more!!)

Also running a lot and thinking how much harder it was with another 50lb. No wonder i can run faster! X

Zibb · 03/09/2025 22:51

@Mounjaroday It used to be that every single illness/ailment/issue I had was put down to my weight - to the point I stopped going to the doctors for years. Now they don't mention it unless I bring it up first.

It seems like the whole fat acceptance movement and people refusing to accept fat/body shaming comments from their doctors lead to a bit of shake up within the NHS. However, instead learning how to bring up weight in a more sensitive manner, it seems lots of doctors just avoid talking about it all together. Which is just as bad as being rude/blunt about it in my opinion.

We all know that obesity can cause so many issues, GPs just need to be a bit kinder about it, but still be honest. It can be hard hearing the truth, it took me years to come to terms with the fact that quite a few of my issues were self-inflicted due to my weight gain. On the other hand, lots of them weren't and my weight was used as an excuse to not investigate the actual causes. Women are often medically neglected and it's worse when you're overweight.

I think a lot of doctors also refuse to accept that obesity isn't just due to someone being lazy or greedy and ignorant. GLP meds have proven that but so many of them are ignorant to it.

I can guarantee that people have noticed! 20kg loss is amazing.

It's not really the done thing to comment on people's bodies these days, even when it is a positive change. Everyone is probably just trying to be respectful.

strongermummy · 04/09/2025 00:05

Ouch. I’ve just ordered a new 12.5 pen. Up from the 10 pen I have at the moment.

it is more then £120 more expensive than the pen I bought before the price hike

how is everyone else doing with the hike?

will have to be careful going forward as I don’t have loads of £££ to chuck about especially as kids have returned to school and then we seem to bleed money for weeks!!!

However the end is in sight. Albeit been very static since the summer holidays started. Now we are getting back into routine I Am hoping to get to the finish line by October half term so I can taper down and consider if I will need maintenance…… or if I can go it alone! Or will Christmas ruin me?!

in other news. I wore a bikini on holiday. Was good!!!

And. I purchased a pair of size 10 jeans in a charity shop. And I’ve worn them. THEY FIT!

Am also looking to do the C25K this autumn….. and more weights!

fitter. Leaner. Stronger by end of the year. This was my objective for 2025 and by gawd. I might manage it!!!

WoolerOwl · 04/09/2025 07:17

My GP did mention it. She said in a kind, non-judgmental way that my NAFLD was entirely reversible with weight loss. And I just thought, why would I not?

Re other people noticing, only a couple of people had said anything (around the 18kg loss mark). But now, having all been away on holiday on and off for the last six weeks ago and not seen each other in person very much, and having got to a 28kg loss, my closest colleagues suddenly noticed this week. They were very complimentary but I still felt a bit awkward.

I’m firmly sticking to the cover story that I’ve taken up running. Which is true, but, let’s face it, four weeks of C25K wouldn’t have had this effect!

Mother in law arrives this afternoon to stay. Not usually given to holding back, I’m sure I’ll soon know if she has an opinion.

I think your last comment hits the nail on the head. If doctors approached it as obesity being an actual health matter instead of a personal moral failing the conversation would probably be very different.

Mounjaroday · 04/09/2025 08:33

Totally agree!

OP posts:
sweetpickle2 · 04/09/2025 09:02

That's interesting @Mounjaroday as historically I've had the opposite experience- could barely go to the GP with a sniffle without them telling me to lose weight.

A friend of mine was dismissed for what turned out to be ovarian cancer symptoms for over a year as she just kept being told to lose weight every time she saw her GP and they never actually investigated her issues. I agree with @Zibb that there needs to be a balance.

Edit to add that I wonder if it will be different again now because of the jabs? If I went to the doctor now and they told me to lose weight, I would naturally assume I would then be able to get the jabs prescribed- when presumably they are not prescribing those to many people due to costs and guidelines. So maybe they'll be suggesting weight loss less?

Nomoretopswithblacktrousers · 04/09/2025 18:00

Very interesting to hear how conversations have changed with GPs. Explains why DHs recent GP visit didn't go as I'd hoped it would.

Mounjaroday · 04/09/2025 19:18

How did you hope it would go, @Nomoretopswithblacktrousers, and what happened?

OP posts:
Nomoretopswithblacktrousers · 04/09/2025 20:13

@Mounjaroday I'd hoped GP would recommend DH try to lose a bit of weight.

mumandgran24 · 05/09/2025 11:46

Hi guys, not posted for a while. How is ev1 after pen gate lol.

I was on holiday without being able to order. Took one dose before I travelled then missed a dose intending to take my golden dose on return after just over 2 weeks and get my next order in.

Ended up struggling to order, ZAVA messed me around then cancelled on 1st. Because I was worried I split my golden dose in half so only took around a 2.5mg for two weeks after being off for about 10 days on holiday.

finally got a new pen yesterday. Was worried about jumping back up to 5 so counted clicks snd did 3mg instead.

so after all of that was worried I would have put weight back on, but actually weighed in today and down to 12 stone 13 so still managed to lose 3lb ish in August so will take it as a win.

NSV did not get as much food noise or hunger as I thought I would and yesterday was able to touch my toes whilst stood up. Not done that for many years. DD was shocked I am still flexible enough lol.

mumandgran24 · 05/09/2025 11:53

Oops forgot to add started at 16 stone 10 lb so close to a 4 stone loss now yay. Very happy to be in the 12’s for now, not seen them for decades lol

PurpleCoo · 05/09/2025 15:06

Weekly weight in.

SW: 96.55
CW: 72.5
TL: 24.05
Weekly loss: STS, or maybe a .2 gain, or something silly.

I’m really not bothered now by having STS some weeks. There isn’t much to lose now, and I am definitely shrinking. I shared that I bought some size 10 hiking trousers from Mountain Warehouse, but was pleased but not ecstatic, because they are very generous in their sizing. Salt rock had some water resistant hiking trousers in the sale, every size except 12, so I ordered a 14 and a 10, thinking I was kidding myself but could return them. Well the 14s are way too big and the 10s only fit! Now I do feel giddy, because google says Saltrock are close to size. I have also ordered various size 12 sale trousers from Craghoppers and wondering if they will be too big!! I will definitely need lots of trousers though, have a 16 night holiday in Wales next week and hope to do Pen Y Fan and Snowden via Pyg/Miners, plus other walks.

I also managed heavier weights in some tracks in body pump today, so I am getting stronger. Especially pleased with that as I had missed a couple of weeks due to being on holiday the week before last.

TheYouYouAre · 05/09/2025 16:37

Great updates everyone!

Today I saw 71kg on the scales, and now over 20kgs lost in total. 25.9 BMI so getting very close to that 'healthy' figure. Can't get my head around the fact that I'll hopefully be seeing a 6-something on the scales soon. Haven't seen that number for at least 20 years.

Think I'm going to try and hit 68kg then taper down from where I am now (3.33mg), maybe stay at 2.5mg for a while, if I can afford the new prices. I'd happily stay on a low dose forever to maintain, but I also want to see how I go without it.
