Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

@3isthemagicestnumber I'm planning to stick at 2.5 for the next pen. I'd consider sticking on that dose the whole time if I continue to get suppression as I'd prefer to lose weight slowly and get into some good eating habits.

I'm eating little and often and trying to stick to whole foods rather than anything processed. So far I've mainly been eating greek yoghurt, seeds, nuts, berries, avocado, eggs, veg & chicken. Today I was out with the kids and did give in a piece of homemade carrot cake from the cafe though with my coffee, I've not really had any snacks since starting until today (I had my second jab yesterday). I used to snack most of the on anything and everything so one piece of cake in just over a week isn't too bad!

Today I've got any awful headache, feel cold again and am still so thirsty. Has anyone's extreme thirst subsided at all?

timestressed · 02/08/2025 18:44

W1d3 today. Even more hunger suppression. But it was like that with Keto for me as well. I have good routine of meals when I am working but must keep up with proteins and calories. My blood glucose is also beginning to drop as expected. Still feel a bit more thirsty but haven't had much water today. We are out and about and I didn't bring my second water bottle. My dreams are so vivid! I didn't get much sleep last 3 nights and usually that would have meant no memories of any dreams. Normally if I don't load up on carbs last thing at night I eat healthily. No late bread scoffing means I don't eat many cards and can feel ache in my legs, a sign of glycogen being depleted.

Hellenicnim · 02/08/2025 19:23

Second jab today and no headache but I did have some fatigue and ended up sleeping half the day away (which i also did last week) but I was happy to do so because of my bad head - I am think I am going to switch to jabbing friday evening instead of saturday morning, I did not really think about the jab day or have any reasoning behind it - my pen arrived on saturday and i jabbed right away but I think friday makes sense so i have maximum suppression over the weekend? not that I am out partying but do have more time to pick generally so doesn't seem a good day to have suppression wear off?

I lost 4 kilos in my first weigh in which I know will be mostly water but hey it's a very good start.

Bluefloor · 02/08/2025 19:31

Well I decided to go for it and started today, I nearly chickened out but didn’t feel a thing! Now I feel im waiting around for something to happen 😂

GertieLawrence · 02/08/2025 20:35

Day 2. Felt dizzy when I woke up and mouth is v dry but otherwise I feel ok (I’m always tired due to chronic fatigue!).

Don’t feel v hungry at all. Cottage cheese for lunch, apple snack, scrambled eggs on a slice of brown toast for tea. I’m only eating about half of what I have on my plate, not bothered about finishing it. Drinking lots more water than normal.

NeedSleepNow · 02/08/2025 21:14

I've been suffering a bit with constipation for the last few days, I think I had the same issue when I followed a keto diet a few years ago. Can anyone suggest anything to help, either over the counter options or naturals foods that might help?

I used a suppository and ate oats cooked in water not milk. Eating bananas also helped me.

Hey, i have just ordered my first dose of mounjarno! I had to send front and side pics of myself, which need to be approved so not sure when to expect the first dose to arrive.

Im 33F and 5ft 6
Sw: 17st 9lbs

I am excited!

iloveredwine · 02/08/2025 21:56

Ive got my 2nd due on Monday evening. It’s been ok so far but definitely not really felt that I can’t eat. The 2nd day I had lunch and couldn’t finish it and felt nauseous and bloated after it so couldn’t eat for the rest of the day. Now I eat small meals twice a day. Lost 6lbs since Monday but very constipated now.

This will be me Monday week..

I will also expect to have dropped a stone by the Wednesday and will be disappointed when this hasn’t happened 😆

YvonneLocker · 03/08/2025 08:31

I'd love to know that too about the extreme thirst @NeedSleepNow. I'm pleased to not really have any other side effects but this is an annoying one. I swear I'm going to be flushing out more good than bad.
I'm on holiday so I can't do a weigh in. Due my next jab tomorrow but will have to wait until Wednesday. Feels like it's wearing off a little bit. Yesterday I ate a lot but never so much that I felt sick and I was able to leave some food on my plate and not scoff the rest of the crisps someone bought at the pub. I also didn't drink alcohol at all and didn't feel like it.
@DwellernfI'm trying to use it as a way to reset my relationship with food rather than just eat super low calorie as otherwise I know it won't last. I think you can eat good proper homemade foods just not the massive volumes! I love cheese too - I still had it on my spagbol yesterday but it just wasn't a 2000 calorie meal like it normally is.
I'm hopeful I can stay on a low dose. I like this feeling of just having better impulse control and I don't mind losing super slowly.

Daftmum47 · 03/08/2025 08:45

Hi all,
I’m usually very cautious about non-essential medical precautions but have bitten the bullet and am going to start tomorrow.

I’m 50.

heaviest I’ve ever been is 15st 2lbs / 96kg

current weight: 13st 8lbs / 88kg

goal weight: 10st 3lbs / 64kg

So I guess I’m aiming to lose 47 pounds. So this will probably be a 6 month journey at the very least.

I have ADHD and a tendency to tipple too much, so hoping the WLIs will help with those.

My worst fears are side effects like pancreatitis, hair loss and rapid facial wrinkling. Also I don’t want this to be just an exacerbated yo-yo diet, so determined to use the time for habit building for a 50-something, healthy, post-menopausal diet. I guess one thing to do today is a healthy food shop to support me through the first few days, I’m not very organised!

I have a young son in the house and he picks at his food and not eating his leftover carbs is an issue for me.

Will go back now and read more of other people’s posts. Good luck all!

Edit PS: the Dr did not prescribe, I’m buying privately Mountjaro through Superdrug

saywhaaaaaat · 03/08/2025 11:15

So, my weight is definitely dropping and I’m kind of forcing myself to eat but am keeping a track. Less impulsiveness is making it easier as well. I am however experiencing my first period on mj and it’s a little bit late and a little bit light. I think glp-1s are synthetic hormones and the other element is that it impact insulin etc, but I’m very used to fairly aggressive periods 😆 so this is nice.

I’ve managed to choke down half a protein shake before I have a pt session. It’s weights based so I’ll be intrigued to see how my progress is in terms of what I can lift, and if it’s been impacted from being on jabs

The period thing is interesting. I have really awful pms and more recently perimenopause symptoms and today was thinking I feel better than I have in ages. So if this medicine lessens any of those symptoms I will be really pleased. I was worried it might make them worse but am only mid cycle so will see how next few weeks go.

Have got a few spots though which haven’t had in ages so did wonder if that was a hormone thing.

Good luck!

Im heavier than you and also worried about wrinkles with weight loss as just now I don’t have any really! I know it’s probably because my face is plump.

TheArtfulCrow · 03/08/2025 11:42

Feel like crap this morning, sleepy, nauseous, dizzy and a headache. Hoping it'll subside soon. Had a small omelette for breakfast and can't contemplate anything else at nearly lunch time. Gonna try a protein shake maybe just to get something in the stomach as Im sure that'll help.

reluctantbrit · 03/08/2025 11:47

I woke up starving and am again getting hungry before my normal lunch time. I am on W2, D3 and really wonder what is going on. I don't really fancy snacks or maybe I know that they will be a bad idea.

I had an interesting day food wise yesterday, didn't eat a lot and what I ate was carbs, toast, sandwich, pasta. Not sure if that is causing issues.

So I moved to mainly protein today, greek style yoghurt, beef for lunch and chicken for dinner.

smileymileysmiley · 03/08/2025 12:27

first jab 5pm on friday and still no symptoms which is good but i'm not experiencing any significant feelings of being full- can still eat and trying to do so mindfully but the magical can't finish my plate sensation is absent for me. I'll be gutted if this doesn't work - anyone else the same? Really wondering if this is gonna work for me as i don't just eat when im hungry - eating when im not hungry was the problem!

Maplebean · 03/08/2025 12:48

@smileymileysmiley and @reluctantbrit are you both on Mounjaro?

Maybe it will take a higher dose before it really kicks in?

Im on Wegovy lowest dose and found myself with a lot of periods of hunger first week. Less so now on week 2.

reluctantbrit · 03/08/2025 14:06

@smileymileysmiley I could eat but I am just not hungry normally and also find too much food is causing stomach aches.

I also do calorie counting so I check how much I should eat and what a normal size portion is, that’s where I struggle and failed in the past.

saywhaaaaaat · 03/08/2025 14:27

I think I read somewhere that a lot of people are talking about supression but we should be aiming for satiety. So still getting hungry but building in enough of a pause so we don’t over eat and take our time, make good choices blah blah blah.

But everybody is different, so some people may just need to go on a higher dose than others. Tbh I never really let myself get hungry in the first place. Literally cannot remember what proper hunger feels like.

Also, nausea kicked in during the gym. I did hack squat (which is under a horrendous fluorescent light) the. abdominal crunches and then onto the hip thrust and I had to stop my trainer because I was going throw up 😆 I did however do more upper body weight and didn’t struggle as much with that so that’s really positive!

smileymileysmiley · 03/08/2025 14:42

yes on mounjaro - i'll try and refocus on satiety - again i'm an overeater till im stuffed rather than satisfied not think in gonna have to change some d habits and hope it helps me with the willpower aspect

Warmcupoftea · 03/08/2025 16:35

@NeedSleepNow I find fresh figs, dried figs, prunes and kiwi fruits do the trick for me, bananas have the opposite effect

RalphtheMouth · 03/08/2025 17:36

Hello, after many months I'm finally taking the plunge and starting Mounjaro this week - hopefully Wednesday. Very nervous but excited to gain some control again over my eating. Need to lose 2.5-3 stone.

These pages have been really helpful so far and looking forward to offering and receiving support along the way.

Sausagedogsarethewurst · 03/08/2025 18:10

Hello fellow August-ers I have ordered my first pen today, waiting for approval and planning to start on mon 11th if everything is approved/delivered on time. I have 3.5st to lose and am following your experiences so far with interest.
