August 25 Starters

Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

Thanks @Warmcupoftea and @PinkSun9 for the suggestions of things to help with constipation. I've had a lot of fruit today, hoping that may help.

Fattyc · 03/08/2025 19:17

Hi. I am considering starting Mounjaro. I see there are many online places to buy. Where did you guys order from, are there more reputable suppliers? I see Boots and Asda sell it so was thinking from either of those. Thanks

Warmcupoftea · 03/08/2025 19:47

@Fattyc I chose Asda because it was a bigger company, with a brand name to protect. It was straight forward to order, but it’s about a week between ordering and the estimated delivery date. For my first pen I chose to pick it up from the pharmacy, where the pharmacist was very helpful. I ordered my next pen on Friday but have not had any updates to tell me whether it’s been accepted or the delivery date.

NeedSleepNow · 03/08/2025 20:08

@Fattyc i went with monjouro from asda as I wanted to be able to pick up from a pharmacy rather than have it delivered. I ordered on the Sunday and uploaded my photos that day. It was reviewed by their Doctor on the Wednesday or Thursday and it was ready to pick up on the Friday.

reluctantbrit · 03/08/2025 21:05

@Fattyc I chose BUPA, I think it’s one of the more expensive ones but I like the fact that I had a 1/2 hr appointment with the GP with another one each 6 months and get a nutritionist to advise.

I also had good experience with BUPA as it’s the private health insurance I have from work.

Hi All!
Just found this thread and this is my first post!
I've been prescribed Tirzepatide ( Mounjaro 2.5) by NHS , mainly to help with Type 2 Diabetes but also hope it can help me lose weight.
I am very nervous about starting as previously Liraglutide and Semaglutide were not
successful and I suffered many side effects.
I plan to start weekly injections tomorrow. Fingers crossed this works 🤞

Maplebean · 03/08/2025 21:32

Had my first glass of wine- don’t recommend! Regret.

sausagesandwiches · 03/08/2025 22:03

I’ve been out for a meal tonight for a friend’s birthday

I had been thinking the jab hadn’t had much impact (W2D4) but I could barely finish my starter never mind my main course

I think I might need to rethink social events

first jab 5pm on friday and still no symptoms which is good but i'm not experiencing any significant feelings of being full- can still eat and trying to do so mindfully but the magical can't finish my plate sensation is absent for me. I'll be gutted if this doesn't work - anyone else the same? Really wondering if this is gonna work for me as i don't just eat when im hungry - eating when im not hungry was the problem!

Smiley I feel the same, not noticing any changes really apart from sore shoulder not sure if it’s related to Mounjaro however … it’s still very early days, hopefully you feel the effects soon.

I was bit late for July thread so joining Aug. I have been delighted with my first week. Never ever lost this much in a week. Eating super healthy at the moment. Does anyone use an app to track calories but also making sure meals are well balanced. It’s so tempting not to eat much … but I don’t want to do that and have my hair falling out etc. I tried cronometer app but its reports are complicated - don’t get it ? Has anyone took a pen abroad with them ? I’m not keen and won’t be able to keep it cold during travelling. Would it be ok to just be late with my jab ? And do it when I get home ?

I’m using my fitness pal and trying to hit 100g of protein.

I ended up feeling better as the day went on. I ate around 1300 calories today and had a good walk. I've just finished doing the grocery shopping and nothing was appealing, was a struggle 😅

justjuggling · 03/08/2025 23:19

Hello! Hope it’s ok to join. I did my first jab on 30th July, and no side effects so far. Went out for the day yesterday and had several cocktails and happy to report that I felt/feel absolutely fine.

I’m 52, 5 ft 6, slightly over 17 stone and have type 2 diabetes. Am fed up with feeling lethargic and stiff/achey, plus not being able to wear the clothes I want to and I’m worried about being diabetic. I’ve tried every diet in the book so hoping the mounjaro really helps. On 2.5 per week at the moment but anticipate that increasing as the food noise hasn’t completely shut down.

Looking forward to sharing our journies!

YourFluentJadeSheep · 04/08/2025 07:27

Hi! Hoping I can join in...had my second dose on Saturday. First week was fine, not hungry and easily full after a small amount. I have had headaches and been very thirsty though. Im now constipated though and have stomach ache.
I only lost 1 kg but it's totm so hoping for better this week!

tiggyc · 04/08/2025 11:08

Hi everyone, I took my first dose on 1/8 and it’s going well so far although I’m not sure if I feel anything tbh 🤔 I have been eating well and smaller portions but I’m not sure if that’s helped by the jab or motivation from myself! I guess time will tell!

AsteriaBuffy · 04/08/2025 12:29

hello, hoping it's okay to join too. I've been following along which has been really useful, thanks.

SW 14 stone 7

Took 1st jab on 30 Aug (now W1, D6) and was terrified! Weird experience, got a big hot red mark on injection site almost immediately which freaked me out, thankfully it went after a couple of days.

SE have been mild-ish, some stomach pains the first couple of days after eating, can't drink fizzy drinks as even a few sips have me burping for ages, a few headaches, mild constipation, tiredness, but all those have got better through the week so far. Sleep not great but never is.

Been eating usual food, just smaller portions and no snacks in between. I figured it was best not to shock my body too much with a whole different diet! Plus have to cook evening meal for family so it's easier. I've been the same weight for a year so figure if I just eat less of the same it should work?!

Feeling full after around half to two-thirds of a normal meal (I never ate big meals anyway, my downfall was drinking, fatty snacks and cortisol stress). Carried on with wine, but can't drink as much so that's good.

I don't do any 'proper' exercise apart from moderate walking, so not ramping this up at the moment, again don't want to stress my poor old body out too much :D

Been weighing every day - so far lost 1.2 pounds, will see what it is on Weds.

I'm also using my fitness pal, I find it really easy (just the free version)

Well I've just done my first jab. Was going to do it before bed but I was winding myself up thinking about it. So intrigued as to how this will work. I just can't imagine not thinking about food!

It is weird - I was trying to explain how I felt to DH, and couldn't really. He was asking if food tastes less good and it doesn't, I'm just less bothered about it somehow?

I've been surprised by how much impact it's had in my first week - but I'm due my second jab tomorrow, and its impact is definitely fading off as it comes close to the end of the week.

jan2310 · 04/08/2025 14:46

Day 6 in my first week now and after a horrible first couple of days I’ve been feeling fine. Went out with friends at the weekend and ate and drank normally and all was ok. I enjoyed the food. However the rest of the time I’m just not thinking about food and not hungry. Which I’m finding strange as I didn’t actually think I had food noise, but perhaps I did.

i feel a bit more hungry today so im looking forward to taking my second jab on Wednesday and to weighing myself to see if i have lost any weight. I’m not looking forward to the side effects though.

AsteriaBuffy · 04/08/2025 14:46

It is kind of hard to make sense of! In some ways food tastes better - I think veg is more flavourful. I used to have to put a bit of butter in my cup-a-soup to make it taste nice, now it's fine without. Am def more sensitive to food smells (reminds me of being pg!) - I'm revolted by cooking / dishwasher smells that other people can't even smell.

Sausagedogsarethewurst · 04/08/2025 16:37

My px has been approved and dispatched - I was thinking of waiting til after the weekend (child-free trip away with dh) but am also keen to get started… those of you who have recently started, how likely am I to jeopardise the w/e if do the first jab tomorrow/wed?

YvonneLocker · 04/08/2025 17:06

I think it depends on the person @Sausagedogsarethewurst. For me I had a little bit of nausea after eating for the first couple of days (I did actually worry I was pregnant @AsteriaBuffyas I was late as well!) and I was more tired than usual but I know others have had it worse.
i think if you suffer at all from constipation when you travel (I do lol) I wouldn't do it.
