Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

@YvonneLockerI did a half-dose injection last night in the end. Woke up this morning feeling almost normal. A touch of queasiness but nothing like the horrors of last week. Now I'm wondering whether to do the other half in a couple of days time.

I'm not feeling much / any suppression but for now I'm just focused on getting used to the medication.

In good news, I lost 2 kgs last week. I know much of that will be water, but I'm still pleased.

I also think my arthritic knees are less painful. I know mounjaro has an anti-inglammatory effect but I didn't expect anything that quick!

Hi, just found this thread and it’s so helpful. I took my first jab on Weds afternoon. It took me days to pluck up the courage to do it. Yesterday I had terrible stomach pains all day and felt a bit nauseous. I felt really awful but still had a bit of an appetite. Today the stomach pains and nausea have gone but I’ve felt really thirsty and had a strange taste in my mouth. But no interest in food. I’ve eaten normal but smaller meals. No interest in alcohol at all and I normally have wine most nights.

Tonight I’ve felt very cold. And for the last couple of days I’ve felt very anxious and edgy.

So mixed feelings so far. I’m fascinated at not being hungry and thinking of the positive impact of eating less. But ay the moment the side effects feel grim so I’m hoping they go as I can’t imagine feeling like this for weeks.

It’s great to read all the experiences on here as I haven’t told anyone in real life.

timestressed · 01/08/2025 22:10

@jan2310 I also started on Wednesday and feeling cold, I think those are hormonal changes we are experiencing. I think our bodies will adjust and regulate. They are called cold flashes, li ked to fluctuating hormones.

Lushlylemons · 02/08/2025 02:35

So my first jab was on Wednesday, so far I've had mild nausea and definitely some suppression, once I start eating all of a sudden I have to stop or I feel like I will be sick. I'm surprised it's working so fast.
I'm hoping I get some of these cold flashes to counteract my usual hot ones. I'm making sure I drink loads of water and logging everything I eat on the app, I think that is helping.
I definitely feel a lot less bloated so I'm looking forward to weigh day.

saywhaaaaaat · 02/08/2025 07:39

I weighed this morning and I’m down 1.3kg which is a good start for me!

No symptoms so far but only took 1st jab at 5pm yesterday. Don't know if i have appetite suppression - i rarely ate when hungry anyway as never allowed myself to be hungry as always eating out of habit, boredom or because i like food ! not sure how that's gonna play out really. Had a coffee this morning but am trying to make sure i have a small glass of water every 2 hours as i am
not water drinker at all

Hello all, glad to see so many of us on here. It's lovely to have the support network and to see how everyone's coping and managing any side effects etc.

Just did 2nd jab. Just as nervous about doing it as I was last week! Wonder if that will ever stop!
Glad to say that I've lost 7lbs - I know that it's the usual first week fast loss but I have felt as though I've eaten normal things - not rubbish but not 'diet' foods (none of the dreaded cottage cheese 😂) and I haven't snacked or wanted to snack. Best of all I have had head space. Felt almost serene at times. It so lovely. Plus I have not bitten my nails all week. Not sure if that's a coincidence or a symptom of my new found serenity!

Anyway, good luck everyone! I'd be really interested to hear if anyone else has similar 'side effects' to my non-nail-biting one. We might be glad of a list of these side-wins the further through this experience that we go.

jan2310 · 02/08/2025 08:55

Day 4 and I feel much better today. Have a slight headache but otherwise feel normal and even the raging thirst has subsided. Still feeling slightly anxious but that seems to be subsiding too.

I’m not hungry but I’m eating normally, just smaller portions and no snacks. Will weigh myself on Weds before my second jab but I already feel a bit lighter (although that may be wishful thinking!). I’m definitely feeling more positive about this journey today after feeling rough for the first few days.

user17294 · 02/08/2025 09:05

Feeling a bit disheartened this morning as my hunger seems to have come back double fold. Only took my jab on Thursday and haven’t been hungry the first two days but today feel like back to normal!

@mustytrusty I stay away from Diet Food as well, when I did WeightWatchers 20 years ago I learnt that all these 0% fat food is full of sugar replacement and artificial crap and never really fills me up.

Give me full fat greek yoghurt and I don't need to eat again.

Yeah, just to echo this. If you look at the correlation of “low fat” foods and obesity it’s pretty shocking. Also, the figures look like heart related issues have come down, but also look at the decreasing rates of smoking etc.

I’m aiming (and I mean, I am no way the person to ask in these things 😆) for 80% whole food/minimal processed as possible and 20% fun stuff.

Also, in terms of increasing doses, I think I’m aiming to remain on 2.5mg my entire time. I’m really quickly realising I was never actually hungry and just having that tiny bit of a suppression so far is breaking that habit. That’s the plan, but we’ll have to wait and see. I’ve also been thinking about how much weight I want to lose. I’m using kg because it’s like… a unit of measurement I don’t really use so it’s a bit less emotional (does that make sense?)

Currently 91kg and aiming to go down to around the 60kg mark. It’s a stretch but my bra size is 32, so I’m fairly sure my frame is smaller. Playing it by ear though and I do weights 3 x a week so know that can impact the scales.

Also on the side effects, I have a lot of adhd-y traits (although I think this is more from how I was raised rather than nd) and these have calmed right down. It was actually the reason i decided to try this route. I was hoping for a bit of peace and quiet and it’s definitely working.

sausagesandwiches · 02/08/2025 12:28

@user17294your experience is the same as mine and I know it can feel frustrating when people are saying they have no appetite on the 2.5 dose -and that is fantastic for those people, but 2.5 isn’t recognised as a therapeutic dose, it’s about getting your body used to it

I’ve had a good loss in my first week but I always do when I start a new diet as I feel very motivated -week 3 is always my danger zone!

this is going to be a slow process -but I’m ok with that as I didn’t put on the weight overnight

Heya

This happened to me yesterday (today is when I take second dose). I basically was back to normal and craved sugar and ate a massive cookie and slice of Victoria sponge!

I did find that the suppression came in waves for me throughout the week, and some days I was hungrier than others- so you may find it comes back.

3isthemagicestnumber · 02/08/2025 12:58

W1 D6 - coldness seems to have passed, haven’t lost as much as some on here, but looks like I’m 2.5kg down so far, which I’m pleased with. Going on holiday tomorrow for 3 weeks so may jab tonight to avoid any side effects whilst travelling - it’s been fairly plain sailing this week, bit of nausea, bit of heartburn but nothing too bad. I’ve not changed what I eat massively (although had been fairly clean eating in the run up) but probably eating 1/2 of what I normally would and haven’t had a square of dark chocolate all week, which would normally be my night time treat. Similarly felt quite ‘serene’ and definitely more productive at work after the first day of exhaustion.

All in all, good first week -bring on the next. Already wondering whether to stick on 2.5 or go up to 5 in week 4 - anybody else thought about this?

Me too. Hadn’t really noticed any suppression until day 5/6 of 1st week when started to feel like seeking out snacks. However, I was still way more mindful than I would have been so still felt much more in control than pre MJ. Early days so will see how this pans out. At start of wk 2 now.

Bluefloor · 02/08/2025 14:28

Hope I can join 😀 I’ve just received my pen, I wasn’t expecting it until Monday at the earliest..but we’re meant to go on a family day out tomorrow. Those of you who have started already, what was your first 24 hours like and would you go to a festival type event the next day? I’m keen to just start!

Daisymoll007 · 02/08/2025 14:53

Hello day 5 after first jab for me, started the day I got back from hols…have felt fine, I think it has turned off some food noise for sure and my weight has gone down over week, looking forward ro taking second dose on Monday.

i did not overeat before though except on holidays and nights out and BMI Just 30 but am in peri and on HRT and could not lose weight despite exercising and eating healthily…(2st has crept on in 3 years) so hoping to lose around 2….5ft 3….

SW 12st 7lbs
GW 11st ish

TheArtfulCrow · 02/08/2025 14:54

First injection done today, it was really fine for those of you that are worried about it 😊.

SW: 14st 7lbs.
GW: 10st

Daisymoll007 · 02/08/2025 14:54

I have been fine I could have done event but have eaten healthily only since starting so don’t know what effects with eating extra food would have been

Day 1 was okay - I was cold and very tired by the time I finished work at 6pm but otherwise alright. I had jabbed about 8pm the evening before and eaten relatively healthy that day. I’d say you could do a family event, but you might flag towards the end!

DandelionPockets · 02/08/2025 15:35

First weigh in this morning and down 5lbs.

SW 184lbs
CW 179lbs

Happy with that. Feeling good too today, healthy and full of energy.

SweetpeaM33 · 02/08/2025 16:04

I took my first MJ jab this morning around 10am. Had to work my way up to doing it, I'm not good with seeing needles, when I get vaccinations or have blood taken, I always look away so I don't see it. But I had to just do it - it felt fine, so I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Feeling ok. Have had a slightly metallic taste in my mouth on and off all day. Also had a slight sense of my heart beating a bit faster when I'm not doing anything energetic.... happened a couple of times very briefly and then passed. Feeling a bit tired, but it may not be anything to do with MJ, I had little sleep on Thursday night and havent caught up since. Otherwise feeling fine.

I wouldn't say my hunger subsided quickly. At around 12.30 I was feeling quite hungry for lunch and had a normal size lunch. I'm guessing it'll take a bit of time to kick in.

Dwellernf · 02/08/2025 16:19

I am hoping to get approved next week with Asda. So many of my friends are taking it and doing really well. I want to loose around 4 stone. I did cambridge a few years back and lost 6 stone, invariably put some back on but went on to New You and lost 3 stone. Again have put some back on and so going to do Mounjaro while doing 2 New You shakes and a meal. I know that diets like cambridge and new you are completely unsustainable over time, and I suspect Mounjaro will be the same. One of my friends who lost her weight did gain since stopping and so back on it. My issue is although I follow the likes of New You and am going to do mounjaro it goes against EVERYTHING I believe in with food! I believe in good, proper homemade foods. And while I do avoid sweets, chocolate, crisps etc I will happily devour a roast dinner every day, or homemade pie with mash and veg! Cheese is probably my biggest downfall too! Being a farmers wife and having to feed hungry farmers means lots of food always around. And I hate waste! Anyway. Hopefully no side effects and hopefully I can continue eating more 'proper' food than shakes etc just less of it! Good luck to everyone starting now.

Yes- it’s amazing how little you wants snacks with this. Never realised how much I wanted them before until now!

Good luck with 2nd jab. Just took mine a few hours ago and already struggling to finish food so feeling it already again.
