Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

Hope you had a lovely holiday @saywhaaaaaat.

I did my first jab yesterday morning, I felt nauseous most of the day and had a terrible headache last night but I’ve woken up feeling fine. Definitely feeling the appetite suppression this morning, not feeling like I want to eat anything at all!

NeedSleepNow · 01/08/2025 09:23

I'll be doing my second jab later today, probably late afternoon/early evening.

I've weighed myself now rather than when I do the jab as I prefer to weigh in the morning before eating!

Starting weight: 196lb (89kg)
End wk 1 189lb (85.2kg)

I'm delighted with that, I'm sure a lot is water weight at the start like with any diet though and it will slow. I'm hoping to stay on a low dose for as long as possible and to just have a slow steady loss of a couple of pounds a week as I hope that will give me the chance to make some really strong habits with food choices and to help with loose skin etc.

I feel really hungry this morning, and my stomach is rumbling which I haven't noticed all week so think the suppression is wearing off and I'm ready for the next jab.

reluctantbrit · 01/08/2025 11:06

Weigh in - lost 0.9kg, quite happy. Second dose will come later today.

I am utterly bunged up, took Dulcolax yesterday but nothing so far.

About water - I drink around 2-3l water, last year we did an office rehab and we all got a 600ml Yeti straw bottle. That thing is a lifesaver, I drink so much more with it. At work I re-fill it 3x at least and I bought a larger one for home and it's always on the go. I dislike the bottles where you drink from a metal opening, this as a plastic spout and for me it's more pleasant. And it keeps the liquid cold, even better.

I also use pint glasses at home for a juice/water mix (7/8 water, 1/8 apple juice) plus at least 2 large mugs of peppermint tea and plenty of black tea each day.

I have to plan meals better, the first week was really winging it, breakfast is ok but lunch at work is a bit of an issue.

But - I have absolutely no cravings for chocolate or biscuits, even the muffins my DD baked yesterday were left alone.

Well done @reluctantbrit .

I'm off work at the moment so breakfast and lunch have been ok (although I've eaten the same thing most days, greek yoghurt with fresh fruit & a little grain/sugar free granola for breakfast then scrambled egg on wholemeal toast & avocado for lunch) but I do worry about lunches when back at work as I'm not usually very organised a usually grab a tesco mealdeal on my way to work. I need to get more organised before I go back to work.

I've been aiming for 2litres of water but don't think I've hit that most days. I bought a 750ml reusable bottle yesterday so will aim to drink 3 of those a day. I'm not used to drinking much so it seems like such a lot to drink.

What sort of meals have you had for dinner? I really need to plan dinners a bit more and aim to eat enough protein as I don't think I've had enough this week.

GertieLawrence · 01/08/2025 11:41

Hi all, took my first jab today. I was going to do it tonight but wanted to get it done, I watched a YouTube to make sure I got the instructions right. I’m at home so planning isn’t such an issue for me. V intrigued to see how this goes.

Tinkerbell2209 · 01/08/2025 11:49

Hi all. My pen has been in the fridge for the last 3 weeks but I have taken it out to warm up a bit so I can take the first jab. I know I've been procrastinating, but 1st of the month seems like a good day to start. I've battled with the scales this morning as the batteries were flat, and have just had a bowl of fruit & fibre, which feels a bit like a last supper, which I know is silly. I was at a work meeting last week and one of my colleagues was telling everyone she had now lost two stone on Mounjaro and was delighted - she would have been the last person I would have expected to be using it. That did make me feel a bit more positive. Am going to have a cup of tea and read the instructions.

reluctantbrit · 01/08/2025 11:58

@Tinkerbell2209 good start.

I know what you mean about "last supper". I brought back a bottle of French Cidre from our holiday and opened it two days before I had the first jab as I was sure it won't be a good idea to start with lots of empty calories.

@NeedSleepNow - I tried to stick with normal meals for dinner at the moment, just smaller portions and cutting down on white carbs and increasing veg.
My DD is off to a Scout camp from tomorrow so I will play around with food more.

saywhaaaaaat · 01/08/2025 12:50

I’m home and just did my second jab. Supression is still pretty strong so I’m choking down a huel shake as there’s nothing in the house at the moment.

Hi everyone! I'm off on holiday for a few days now so will be late doing second jab already (should have thought of that). Due on Monday but I'll be doing Wednesday.
Haven't had major side effects apart from being thirsty all the time. I'm definitely drinking a lot more than 2 litres a day.

It is so FASCINATING though. I don't really have suppression at all but what I do have is just no interest in over eating. I'm getting hungry but that doesn't translate into scoffing - I can just have a healthy meal and then I'm satisfied.
I did have a cookie the other day and today my husband bought danish pastries from the local bakery. I could still eat it but it just wasn't in any way satisfying. I'd have rather had a decent lunch.

Hmm not sure @Lucienandjean. I have read about halving the dose and just having it twice a week. Not a medical professional of course but I can't see how that wouldn't be okay? You may find though you get used to it anyway?

Would there be enough needles though?

@YvonneLocker spot on for me as well ==>> I don't really have suppression at all but what I do have is just no interest in over eating. I'm getting hungry but that doesn't translate into scoffing - I can just have a healthy meal and then I'm satisfied.

I have experienced the same feeling in the past. It happened when I managed to last 3-4 days on a very strict Keto, I think then insulin/glucose levels in my blood dropped, perhaps my pancreas got a break (I imagined it that way but the mechanism of it may be different) and I just am in very good mood and very clear head. I thought in the past it was ketones making me feel that way. But I am only on a second day since my first jab, not even 48 hours and feel the familiar feeling of satiety. Even though I didn't sleep much last night I had very vivid dreams and my base heart rate has already dropped (Fitbit shows that for me). I see it as a very good side effect, it is healthier to have it low overall.

timestressed · 01/08/2025 16:55

@saywhaaaaaat you can buy a big box of needles separately. I have box of 100 😎My GP forgot to prescribe them to me and I ordered them separately

My heart rate too! I think it’s to do with the inflammation going down. A lot of people say they gain fast after coming off but a lot of time it’s inflammation returning.

I’m about 5 hours into second jab and feel good. Drank lots of water and going to order a chicken shish for dinner as groceries not coming until tomorrow.

i feel so calm, I did get INCREDIBLY bored on holiday though. Shocking how often it would just be like mmm a packet of crisps or a fizzy drink. In the end I did dumb stuff like staring off into space and dry brushing my body 😆

My supplier sent a box of 100 needles too (I have gone with one thats a subscription model though and has mixed reviews) I am paying slightly more now but it does stay the same no matter dosage so eventually will save I think if I end up on higher doses - because of my size I assume I will as will be a long haul journey for me. - i tried a couple of cheaper pharmacies and got turned down on their automatic questionaires as I do have other health issues and one turned me down as my BMI was too high which was fun - honestly did not anticipate being told I was too fat for WLI but hey ho.

smileymileysmiley · 01/08/2025 17:43

Joining the thread as looking for support - not told anyone and DH is very anti whenever i've tried to speak to him about it. Had it for a month and just back from holiday so thought 1st of month would be good - was very scared but just forced myself to do it. Injection was super easy but am now hyper conscious of side effects and a bit worried about it .

Hopong to lose 3 stone but 5 would be amazing as have never got back to my pre kids weight. Have lost 3 stone several times but then always pile it on again - fingers crossed

eating wise I'm focusing on healthy meals, protein and vegetables - not cutting anything g out as i have done this before and i cant sustain it

timestressed · 01/08/2025 18:00

@@showabout staying on 2.5 if you see already positive changes without side effects? It may take a bit longer but with greater control.

Hellenicnim · 01/08/2025 18:22

@smileymileysmiley I think most of the new starters haven't had much in the way of side effects I am on week 1 and haven't apart from the headache on jab day that I suspect I was getting anyway so fingers crossed you'll be the same!

reluctantbrit · 01/08/2025 18:26

Ok, constipation is sorted but it was not funny.

i am really tied, not sure it’s a side effect or not. I can’t be too active thanks to a hamstring injury but I also don’t want to sleep all the time anymore.

user17294 · 01/08/2025 19:40

Has anyone else experienced body aches as a side effect? Kind of feels like when you’ve got the flu but not as severe. Hoping it will pass soon

Yes I got this last week after my first jab. It was mainly in my back, neck and arms the first day then my legs too on the second. It wasn't awful but was very noticeable, it had faded a lot on the third day then dissappeared.

user17294 · 01/08/2025 19:51

@NeedSleepNowglad I’m not the only one, I was starting to worry!

PinkSun9 · 01/08/2025 20:03

Hi everyone, I am so happy!!! I have lost 1.5kg in my first week. Today I took my 2nd dose of Mj.
I'm drinking more water. Staying away from tea n coffee, just 2 cups of tea in the morning. Eating more fruits n legs. For protein, eggs n chicken. Have cut down on carbs.
Next week might be hard as going away for a break but will do my best to stick to smaller portions n staying away from fried stuff.

Gettingonwithgettingon · 01/08/2025 21:01

I'm on day 3 now, feeling good and finding myself surprisingly uninterested in food. My only apparent symptom so far is that I have a bit of a taste in my mouth - I've read that mint tea helps with this, so giving it a go!

I've had my second dose today and have a funny taste in my mouth too, strangely didn't get this after the first dose though. Thanks for the mint tea tip, I'll get some tomorrow to try

DandelionPockets · 01/08/2025 21:17

My mission to drink more water is going well, having to properly remind myself though!

Weigh-in tomorrow and 2nd jab. Looking forwards to it. Felt like I definitely had a bigger appetite today than earlier in the week, not necessarily a bad thing as I ate VERY little on day 2 and 3 and felt ill.
