August 25 Starters

Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

Yes. It just seems to good to be true for the weight to drop off with very little effort as every time I dropped weight it was through blood, sweat and tears. I also just want to book my Maldives holiday, as I'm not going while looking like a beached whale...

This seems like such a good motivator!

i hope we get to our targets and this helps us. I’m excited to see where will be. I started today and have my appointment 5 weeks today for weigh in with my pharmacy as she wants to weigh me after first pen. I’m hoping to have at least 12lbs off. She said every person she has saw has lost 1 stone at their first appointment so it fills me with hope but I also know, not everyone is the same x

I can’t imagine having lost 1 stone in 5 weeks! Every time I’ve lost weight it’s absolutely sheer grit and determination mainly half a pound a week 😂
Look forward to see what everyone’s experiences are and if this is a real trend!

LnicMJ · 25/08/2025 18:01

@Haribosweets@LaGioiosanotLeviosa same! It's like im rushing forward in my mind to where I'll be by Xmas (would be nice if sooner!) Hopefully a lot lighter and slimmer 🤣🤞🤦‍♀️

Yeah, I’m exactly the same. Every 1lb is lost with a lot of hunger and blood, sweat and tears.
I just can’t quite get my head around this just yet, just have in my head it won’t work for me like everything else lol.

Although, I am 6 hours post first jab and the suppression has already kicked in. My husband made me a lovely steak and I had 2 bites and feel quite full and nauseous a bit like I’m hungover😂 I am incredibly thirsty and have such a dry mouth though. I have drank 4, 500ml bottles of water already.

Greentigerprint · 25/08/2025 21:28

W1 D5 for me today. I’ve lost 2.5lb so far. I’m making some better choices around food. I put a magnum back in the freezer this afternoon after thinking I was going to buy one.
However we went out for dinner tonight and I felt so stuffed! I could not eat another bite. I shared a starter with DH and then only ate about 1/3 of my main. I shouldn’t have got the starter!
I feel so disgusting now! Still so full.

Bluefloor · 25/08/2025 21:48

Had my first ‘have you lost weight’ today, my own husband hasn’t even noticed yet 😂 I also would like to fast forward 4 weeks time, but I am enjoying how mindful I am when it comes to eating and being able to say no to food. The peace within me is bliss so I also want to enjoy it!

Daftmum47 · 25/08/2025 22:28

No one’s asked me yet whether I’ve lost weight, but a couple people have complimented me on my clothes, and I think what they actually mean, perhaps unwittingly, is my shape.

DandelionPockets · 25/08/2025 23:19

The only person that has noticed on me is my mum and I think it's because my face has really changed already. I'm putting it that more down to lack of sugar and increase in water which has reduced the face bloat tbh

For me, nice to feel a bit more comfortable in my clothes as they get looser! I've been wearing a top I love that I stopped wearing because I felt a bit squeezed in it.

Yes I think my face has changed significantly already. Also my love handles have shrunken significantly, I noticed the other day when putting my hands on my hips that there wasn’t as much to hold on to 😂

NeedSleepNow · 26/08/2025 07:44

No ones noticed I've lost any weight yet (I've lost just over a stone now) but I certainly feel less bloated. My jeans are much more comfortable now, still a bit tight but better than before.

I'm not getting so much back ache now or pains in my feet. I used to get a lot of pain in my feet when I first got out of bed but that's so much better now. Hopefully things like aches and pains will keep improving as I lost more weight.

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 26/08/2025 08:05

I too would love to jump forward 4 weeks to see how things are then.

First 4 weeks are up for me and only 1lb off this week but happy with 11.25lbs overall. I changed my dose to 3.75 on Friday as advised my my nurse practitioner and have felt limited side effects (wiped out on Sunday and one day of constipation) but suppression has increased and no real food noise.

Starting to consider exercise, and not quite sure where to begin.

Wow that’s a great loss for four weeks!!! I’m not sure quite what’s happening with me but I’ve weighed this morning and it appears I’ve gained half a pound from yesterday 🤷‍♀️ no reason for it but I guess it’s useful to see the trends on the scales daily for now. Couple of days left for my weekly weigh still to go though.
Anyone else get random gains for no reason (and then hopefully lose them again!!!).
Ill also be doing one dose at 3.75 (or whatever I can get from the 5th dose) as I’m hoping this will ease me up into 5mg, anyway that’s not for a couple of weeks yet I keep getting ahead of myself!

ladygin · 26/08/2025 08:40

Hi All. Which app (if any) are people using to track calories and protein? Thanks x

Yes I've had days like that @LaGioiosanotLeviosa where I've gone up and then gone down again a day or two later. I'm trying now just to weigh once or twice a week to see the overall trend rather than daily ups and downs.

sfraxx · 26/08/2025 09:16

Good morning everyone.

well last night wasn’t great for me after my first jab. I couldn’t sleep, was very anxious and had such a stabbing pain in my tummy. It subsided a little but back today, I like I may just be ready to have a little toilet visit (tmi). My heart rate was very fast last night which was making me unable to sleep, and then when I did eventually fall asleep I kept waking up feeling warm and tingly all over my body and lips, again I fell back asleep and that’s been fine since.

having some weetabix just now so we will see how it goes, but I stood on the scale this morning, and I’m now 12st1.5lb. That’s 2lbs lost in 1 day, it’s definitely water weight as I’ve been pidding every 15 minutes with the amount of water I’m drinking lol!

hope everyone is doing ok.

is anyone else new and on their first week like me? Is this normal to feel so crappy?

I hope you feel better soon @sfraxx . I'm on week five now, In the first week I felt very cold and achey, a bit flu like but I found from day 4 onwards it eased up and with each injection since my side effects have reduced compared to the previous week. This week the only side effect I have had is being very thirsty. Hopefully you'll be the same and your side effects will reduce in a similar way with every week.

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 26/08/2025 10:02

@NeedSleepNowI too felt off a few days in the first week, I’m sure it was sugar withdrawal for me 😳.
@LaGioiosanotLeviosaI vary throughout the week so only take the weight from one particular day and always morning. I was 1.5lbs down yesterday but only 1lb off today.

RedPony1 · 26/08/2025 10:48

i took my first dose Sunday eve!
I'm needle phobic, i nearly passed out prepping the pen... then gave it to DP to jab me whilst i led flat on the sofa with my hands over my eyes 😂

I had minor cramps that night, i felt completely fine all day yesterday, but keep getting waves of nausea today

The food noise is gone, completely. BUT i feel weird, like something is missing. Which then kinda makes me think about food because, well honestly, it' all i've ever known!

Yeah I feel the same lol.

i walked passed Greggs this morning and thought “oooh smells lovely” then immediate nausea straight after lol. I managed 1 weetabix today and put some real sugar on it so I didn’t end up with low sugar. Really struggling to get the water in take in but switched to some Powerade and lucozade sport the now as the water is making me feel a bit nauseous.

oh dear, that’s good your partner did it for you, honestly the pharmacist showed my husband how to do it as I was adamant he’d do it. I eventually done it myself then questioned I’d done it right as I didn’t feel a thing lol.

SweetDreamsAreMadeOfCheese87 · 26/08/2025 11:48

I assumed I’d picked up some germs from my kids, but so many of us have been flu like I guess it was the jab! I feel fortunate that that seems to be the only side effect I’ve had to date.

Just done the 4th jab, so much liquid still left in the pen! I’ll definitely try and get out what’s left next week, otherwise what a waste!

SW 12st 11
CW 11st 10

I feel so much better within myself and my clothes. We went shopping Saturday and I like everything I tried and how it fit 🥳

Sausagedogsarethewurst · 26/08/2025 11:49

W2D7 for me today but counting it as W3D1 as I have weighed/injected today. We are away from tonight and I didn’t want the faff of taking the injection/pen with me. I’m down 0.8kg this week (6 days)
SW: 87kg
CW: 83.9kg
GW: 70kg

SerafinasGoose · 26/08/2025 12:22

Just received a despatch notification on my first dose. It should be here in a couple of days, so I can just squeeze in at the end of the August starters.

I'm quite apprehensive as the side effects sound pretty brutal for some people. Has anyone reordered yet? I'm assuming you get a reminder through the app?

Good luck, everyone.

sausagesandwiches · 26/08/2025 12:27

Just had notification from Asda that my next pen can be picked up on Wednesday

so only 6 days late!

thank goodness for the golden dose!

HighlandCauliflower · 26/08/2025 13:27

ladygin I use an app called nutracheck to track, it's really easy to use and has a huge database of food and drinks, the only times it hasn't recognised things was a food item bought for me from Portugal and some wines.

I'm sorry for those who are having unpleasant side effects, hope the ease off soon.

Hi and welcome.

i started my first jab yesterday and so far had some nausea but no sickness, it comes in waves not constantly which is good. I feel I maybe get nauseous when I would get hungry if that makes sense? I tend to have something to eat then it disappears. I couldn’t sleep the night of my jab, but I think I was overthinking and worrying so much. I’m shattered today and hoping to definitely sleep!
I’ve had some tummy cramps from last night but nothing deliberating just dull aches now.
i suddenly felt ravenous about an hour ago, ate 9 nuggets from the freezer and a crisp sandwich. Regret it now as now I’m feeling burst and full and sickly.
so all in all, nothing extreme (yet don’t want to jinx)

I weighed this morning as I’m a daily weigher and lost 2.1lbs in 1 day😧 xx
