Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

My weigh-in day is tomorrow so will report back tomorrow. I am not confident though and feel like I have put on! Maybe because its the suppression I am feeling. I am also due on this week so could blame that if I haven't lost!
Those who have just started, I felt a bit achey and odd 2 days after my first jab but was ok after my 2nd. 3rd jab tomorrow.
I reordered my 2nd pen yesterday and its coming tomorrow. Decided on another 2.5 as I have had suppression on it and been ok side effects wise. I had an email reminder too (chemist 4 u) just got in before the price rises too! I might have to shop around the following month!

I’ve been on MJ for 5 weeks now and just started the 5mg dose. I’ve lost about 16 pounds relatively easily. The biggest gain by far for me was the loos of ‘food noise’ - that voice that obsessed about eating/not eating/eating a lot - all the time. It’s gone - I can think about food without all the emotions that came with it. I’ve become choosier about what I eat as a result and focus on protein, fruit and veg and roughage! I’m constipated but I was before (TMI, I know). I get thirsty which reminds me to keep drinking fluids and I do a lot of peeing as a result. I do feel an underlying tiredness, which may be because I’ve cut down on sugar and carbs. I’ve lost weight so many times - this experience has been the most in control and rational thanks to the monthly jab.

The surpression is crazy today, I only had a few bites of pasta salad all day and I'm not even hungry

Hi All. Which app (if any) are people using to track calories and protein? Thanks x

I use LoseIt for food/macros and exercise and MeAgain for how much GLP is in my system.

MeAgain has a motivational capybara tamagotchi 🤣 who encourages me. And a gallery progress feature. It also tracks food but not as accurately as LoseIt which has a huge database

Pumpernickelbrakes · 26/08/2025 21:08

Started week 3, half a stone down since I began 15 days ago. I think I lost about 2 lb in the last five days.

Getting into a daily routine now: half an hour on the elliptical, half an hour dumbbell workout (switching between upper and lower body), whilst drinking creatine and electrolytes mixed with water.

Breakfast is Greek yogurt and fruit with seeds

Lunch is a chicken salad with soybeans, peas, avocado, quinoa

Dinner is chicken and roast veg or salmon and salad.

If I can’t face a meal I have a vanilla kefir and chocolate protein shake blended together with collagen peptides.

Instead of wine I drink kombucha and go to bed early.

Am enjoying it, and it is AMAZING to not feel tempted or deprived when making burgers and wedges etc for teen DS and his mates.

Only thing that is slightly bothering me is some days it is a massive struggle to hit 1400 calories and 120g protein.

Hi all, I hope you don't mind me joining 😊 I started mounjaro on the 1st August. So far so good, except these worrying price increases. I'm hoping to lose a total of 5 and a half stone, so far I've lost 6lbs, which isn't great for almost 4 weeks, but better than nothing I suppose. I could be on this journey for quite a while 😕

Daftmum47 · 27/08/2025 04:42

Does anyone else find that one can of Diet Coke now gives them terrible insomnia… she asks, at 4.42am? 😒😣

Daftmum47 · 27/08/2025 04:45

My situation is very similar @Pumpernickelbrakes , though am lucky enough not to have any autoimmune issues.

Instead of Greek yogurt I’m eating the quark protein yogurts, up to 25g protein a pot… have you ruled those out on clean eating grounds?

Daftmum47 · 27/08/2025 04:52

Ah… found this on Reddit. Sounds plausible!

“Do you drink any caffeine? GLP-1 meds slow down how quickly your stomach empties into your small intestine. Since caffeine is absorbed mostly in the small intestine, this delay can slow the onset of caffeine’s effects—meaning you might feel your coffee hit later or less intensely than usual. I’ve noticed that my two Coke Zeroes a day seem to hit me at 9 PM rather than 3 PM since I started MJ.“

I’ve just done my week 4 weigh in. I’ve lost 5.3kg/11.6lb in 4 weeks on my first 2.5mg pen. Not as big as some of the weight losses on here but I’m very happy with it. It feels sustainable, I’ve been on holiday, eaten out, drank wine.

I felt most suppression in the first couple of days after the 1st jab, then in week 4. Although I injected a couple of days early in the last week as I was going away so it’s now been 9 days since I jabbed. I’m haven’t felt any suppression at all in the last few days.

I have a 2.5mg pen on order but no sign of it arriving. I have a 5mg pen ready as I originally planned to increase the dose but I’ve decided to stick with 2.5 for another month as I’m worried about side effects and happy with the weight loss so far. So I need to decide whether to wait for the 2.5 or start dosing 2.5 from the 5mg pen. I’m nervous about that, people on here make it all sound so easy, but I’ve just been following instructions on the packaging to the letter and I’m worried about getting it wrong!

Well done to everyone so far. Reading all these posts has really made me feel part of something and that we’re on a journey together.

You could use the 5mg and half it so 30 clicks to make 2.5? I am nervous to move up to 5 too due to the horror stories I am reading! I have another 2.5 coming for month 2 should arrive today. If I lose suppression and food noise returns on month 2 I may get the 5 but do 3.75 from it to start with

Haribosweets · 27/08/2025 09:09

So I weighed and lost 3ib for week 2. So 8ib in 2 weeks 🙂
I will take my 3rd jab later on.
Well done to everyone and those about to start in next week, good luck

I did exactly what you suggested and it worked fine. I’m going to carry on with 2.5 and see how it goes but then make the jump to 3.75 so I approach 5 gradually.

3isthemagicestnumber · 27/08/2025 11:40

I’m back from 3 weeks holiday camping, continued to lose whilst away despite the odd G&T, glass of wine and four slices of pizza! I’m due to move up to 5mg this Sunday but am considering sticking at 2.5, I was really struggling to eat anything in the first few weeks and whilst I now have some days where I think, ooh am I hungry I’m still sticking to three smallish low GI meals a day, which feels more sustainable in the longer term. Interested in anyone’s experiences from moving up to 5mg who might be feeling similar.

Clothes are feeling noticeably big, but most of weight seems to have gone from upper half (I’m pear shaped naturally) would love to see some cm shift from my hips/calves!

I’m in a pondering mood today - I never thought I ate that badly, or that I was significantly overweight (I was a ‘solid’ size 14 on bottom, 12 on top, but 32 BMI), but was advised to lose weight to help support autoimmune conditions - I do feel a lot better for losing a bit of weight and it’s got me questioning whether I was delusional beforehand, or what is ‘normal’ - anyone else pondering this? I don’t think I could get to where my BMI should be without being too thin so haven’t set a goal weight yet.

Weigh in a bit disappointing, about a pound off this week. Suppression definitely very much down by day 6 - 7, yesterday I found myself looking for sweets and really wanting them which was unusual. Had a few fruit pastilles, gah!

Did the golden dose on 2.5 pen, managed to twist it fairly easily with nutcrackers. There was still a bit left after that dose, so had a go at extracting the very last bit by twisting it back again and doing another jab, think a small bit may have gone in but hard to tell. Hopefully if it did then will give a bit of a boost.

Not sure what to do next week, I've got a 2.5 and 5mg pen, think I'm going to have to increase dose but want to try 3.75 first, I guess I could use either pen for that. Might go for the 5mg and save the 2.5 for titrating back down.

thatsalad · 27/08/2025 11:44

Now that I am experiencing no food noise, I feel so annoyed that this is what other people experience all their life. I thought skinnier people just try harder than me to overcome the food noise, but actually they don't have it to begin with!

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 27/08/2025 11:48

I’m another one who was nervous of jumping to 5 so I did 45 clicks for 3.75 and have felt increased suppression but minimal side effects (mild constipation but upped my fibre and ok). W4 D6 and still feeling full and eating well.

In general I’m noticing difficulty nodding off but I do drink Coke Zero so I’m not sure if the two are related.

Ohhh I thought I was imagining this.... Thank you!!

LaGioiosanotLeviosa · 27/08/2025 12:44

So I’m w2d6 and I’ve just noticed how hungry I am this lunchtime.
Ive eaten what I should do but I’m definitely more hungry and want to eat something else.
I can hang on because I know this is just the MJ wearing off a bit and it’s jab day tomorrow but it’s a reminder of what I’ll need to do when I’m in maintenance eventually.

Thank you for the yogurt tip..will look out for them. Are they very sweet? I’m not able to handle most fruit yogurts for this reason. The slight sourness of plain Greek yog is really satisfying for me.

SweetDreamsAreMadeOfCheese87 · 27/08/2025 14:51

All the posts seem super positive which is great, and great losses too.
Just had another delay notification from Asda, my order from 17/8 is now delayed until 3-5th sept! Due next jab on the 2nd.. 🙄
I had a look at my pen and it’ll only twist a little… how do you force it to use the leftovers? 😬

flipent · 27/08/2025 14:57

@SweetDreamsAreMadeOfCheese87 I've had the same message from Asda. Had been told it would be reviewed today or tomorrow but has been pushed out to next week!

Appreciate the challenges that the stock piling has caused, but would have been nice if they prioritised those who are only ordering as required.

thaliablogs · 27/08/2025 14:57

Hope it’s ok to join in. I just did injection 3 on 2.5mg and having I think the strongest suppression of the 3 weeks. I started measuring calories on MyFitnessPal yesterday (day after injection) as really didn’t feel like eating at all, and managed to get to 600 calories only by force feeding myself a chicken chippolata at around 9pm. Today I had some overnight oats - maybe 2 tbsp - with some raspberries at around 11, and have just had about 100g of a vegetable, quinoa and lentil salad with a dressing I made from tofu, herbs and cashews to try and get some extra protein in at 1430ish. Anyone else feeling this kind of suppression on 2.5mg?

That’s the question I came on to ask - I’ve seen other threads with ppl saying you really need to move up to 5mg but with this kind of suppression shouldn’t I stay on 2.5mg for another month? Planning on using the golden dose (thanks for the needle recommendations on another thread) so I’ve got 2 more jabs left.

I started a few months ago at 94kg post double hip replacement. Was probably 92.5 when I did the first jab, 88.5 this morning. Goal weight is 73kg.

Very interested in people’s thoughts. And thanks for all the help - I took creatine for the first time yesterday and am off to find some magnesium citrate!

LaGioiosanotLeviosa · 27/08/2025 15:09

There is argument for staying as low as you can and I think people do.
my plan is to go to 5 because many people have said they stayed on 2.5 for the second month and didn’t feel as great suppression and wished they had gone up.
But, my suppression has only just been enough which is why I think I want to move up. If it’s then a bit better I will try and stay on 5 for a bit longer.
Its interesting you found week 3 stronger, my 3rd jab is tomorrow, I’ll let you know if I get the same!
