Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

Weigh in this morning and unexpectedly lost 4lb this week which is 1 stone in total!!!!

should start new pen today, it’s not been approved yet so I had a go at the golden dose and it was remarkably easy

when I was twisting the pen if felt like it stoped half way but I was just a bit firmer and it went round

I think I got a full dose as there is still a small bit of liquid in the pen

I got an extra needle when I picked up the pen without asking for any extras -it’s almost like they knew…

So I’ve got my second dose tomorrow, did anyone else find more suppression on their 2nd week or is it always the same at the first? I’ve had a bit of suppression on day 4 and 5 but that’s all and was wondering if as it builds up over the month it gets better?

I found suppression in my second week better. At the end of the week, there is still a small amount in your system so each time you take another dose, it's building up slightly. I think the peak is week 4. I might be wrong about that though. There are apps and online calculations that show you how much you have in your system. Sorry I haven't explained that very well!

I've just taken dose number 3 and my weigh in is a loss of 9.1lb. very happy with that.

Sw 12st 12.3
Cw 12st 3.2

Does anyone have any non scale goals? Mine is to be able to fit on the swings in the park so I can have swing races with my younger kids like I used to with my older ones. I know that properly sounds really silly but for some reason it really bothers me! I also have a certain top that I want to fit into that I love.

I did this this morning and it was SO easy to just crank it a bit harder.

My weight has actually increased by about 0.5kg since yesterday, but I did strength training yesterdau and take creatine etc, so that will happen. I did try on my brand new leather jacket I treated myself to about 2 weeks ago. It didn't zip up in the shop, but it zipped up today. :D

I have another pen ready to go in the fridge, and two at clinical review stage (All 2.5mg which I don't think is experiencing a shortage at the moment), but fairly confident at getting that "extra" dose out. I guess they have to, as a duty of care, provide enough for priming screw ups etc.

My next jab I have to do on my birthday next week. My husband will be around as well. He doesn't know I've started yet though.

May I ask @saywhaaaaaat how you’re going to do it if you’re not buying new needles? Sterilise and re-use the last needle??

I know the response has been posted about getting the needles from Amazon, I have too, however I just want to make sure you know how dangerous it is to reuse a needle @Daftmum47, even after sterilising it. The sterilisation does not ensure all pathogens are killed and the integrity of the needle weakens and it blunts after one use.

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 21/08/2025 09:20

Amazing losses and steady progression all round, go us!

@Rorpethythat’s not a silly goal at all, it’s a great aim. My non scale aims are not getting out of breath climbing more than one staircase, being able to join in happily on family activities instead of spending the whole time self conscious and fitting into a size 14 dress I purchased in the sale two years ago when I was ‘going to diet’.

NeedSleepNow · 21/08/2025 09:55

My order with asda has now been approved (I ordered 2.5 again from them last Thursday) and I can collect it tomorrow afternoon which is just in time as I need my next dose tomorrow evening. I might try to get the extra one out of my current pen though if I can.

@MrJollyLivesNextDoor could you link the needles you got. I had no intention of using that extra dose but I’m going to now as I only have one extra pack and I want to extend it out for as long as I can in case I cannot get stock next time out.

i have the needles from the next pen which I will use until I get the extra ones.

justjuggling · 21/08/2025 10:53

thecomedyofterrors · 20/08/2025 22:28

@justjugglingIve done my 4th dose and haven’t been prescribed my new pen by Medexpress. Pretty disappointed by them. I’ve ordered needles to use the golden dose, which I hadn’t intended to but don’t feel I’ve an option now.

I’ve ordered another pen from chemist 4U as a belt and braces approach. Did that yesterday so hoping at least one of them will arrive in time to take next weds!

Just for the record there are two extra needles in each pen kit I have. If I didn’t have them I wouldn’t bother

Just checked and so have I in today’s delivery.

Plus I didn’t notice but they sent a box of 100 needles with my first order 🤦‍♀️ 🤡 🤣
oh well if I can’t crank the pen I’ll have syringe back up I guess

Here’s the Amazon link anyway:

Mine too, I stupidly ordered them in advance assuming the prescription was just the pen then my prescriber sent me home with a pen and 8 needles.

AsteriaBuffy · 21/08/2025 13:08

ooh that's good news about the extra dose being relatively easy! I had read that the newer pens had been changed so you couldn't force them. Hopefully I'll be lucky with mine as I've got some spare pen needles. Dithering about whether to order some backup insulin needles, will have to be quick I suppose before next weds.

Thanks @SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease . No it’s definitely my intention to buy new needles!

Daftmum47 · 21/08/2025 13:14

Oh, I just checked and in one of my packs I have 6 needles too! Great! (The other 2 kits have 4 needles only.)

Weigh in day...

end of week 2, another 4lb gone. So 9lb in total now.

im eating really well and no snacks at all, not once thought about chocolate, crisps etc.

ive decided to stay on 2.5mg for as long as possible, no point in moving up if not needed.

today I saw a number on the scales that I just couldn't achieve with slimming world, second nature, weight watchers etc etc. I lost 2.5 stone last year with SW but reached a certain weight and just couldn't get beyond it no matter how I tried. In my heart I knew it couldn't be ok to just eat as much pasta etc as I liked, or save my syns for chocolate and crisps. Mounjaro has pushed me beyond that weight.

its a small landmark but I've constantly battled to get to that single
digit in the stone, the dreaded .9 as I've called it many times. Today I went beyond it and now feel like it's actually possible!!

I hear you, I’ve joined and rejoined SW over and over… I’d lose weight fairly well the begin with but then stall. My portions were out of control because it was ‘free food’. I’ve always been an over eater so portion control is definitely the way forward for me. It’s about quality and quantity ❤️

Was just going to say the same, my pen is from Asda and the pack contained 6 needles which is handy!

Bluefloor · 21/08/2025 14:52

I’m coming to the end of my third week now, I have weighed and the scales haven’t budged at all since the end of last week. It’s my TOTM so hoping that’s why. I really wanted to get in to the next stone bracket before I started a new pen. It’s unlikely I’ll reach that now but hopefully I’ll have a bigger drop next week.

peanutbutty · 21/08/2025 15:14

Hi all, 5 days in for me and I'm struggling to eat, I know this is the whole point so shouldn't be surprised but someone I really didn't expect it to work so well so quickly on the lowest dose. I was a bit peckish this morning so Ive eaten an apple, a protein yoghurt and a flat white. I feel post Xmas dinner levels of stuffed. I can't imagine what I can eat this evening that would even get me up to 800 calories never mind 1200. I guess I could try chocolate milk or something but I was such a chocolate fiend I'm really trying to use this to break that habit. Other suggestions???

saywhaaaaaat · 21/08/2025 15:49

I know how you felt at about that point. I ended up just adding a bit more fats to my meals (so more olive oil to salad) a bit of cheese etc. I also found when i made myself eat I was quite hungry.

I just did my 5th jab today adn i've eaten some sushi and that's it. Just no appetite, but going to eat two salmon fillets later to try and bump it.

SW 81.2 kg
CW 77.2 kg
4th dose of my first pen yesterday
4 kg loss in 3 weeks feels a lot. My appetite came back a little stronger at the end of my 3rd week than a week earlier. With the knowledge that it is expected it feels more manageable.
GP prescribed me another 2.5mg pen. I didn't request higher dose. I hope I can carry on on the lowest dose going forward.

I still am quite sensitive to any fried food, it gives me quite unpleasant indigestion. Tomorrow we are going away for 5 days and I hope I can feed myself whilst sightseeing in Norfolk. I am bringing some hard boiled eggs and fresh salad in a box for tomorrow.
Unfortunately sometimes I also am getting diarrhoea and for that I bought 2 packs of fast acting Immodium. It works for me.
My T2 control is still better than 3 weeks ago when I started Mj. I will have my blood test in 9 weeks time to see if it improved over all. I am sleeping better and that is v.good sign of an improved insuline control.
I hope everyone is seeing sleep and rest improvement.

Iwasphotoframed · 21/08/2025 17:47

W3D1 just injected and noticed that yes indeed I have extra needles so I will be giving the golden dose a try this month.

Greentigerprint · 21/08/2025 18:16

Hiya, can I join this thread please? I took my first dose this morning. I have been so tired today and keep feeling cold. I think it’s already starting to work, I’ve already eaten less chocolate than I normally would. And I opened the cupboard and had some nuts rather than chocolate after lunch.

I’m panicking about my next pen already though. I think I should order one now to avoid the price increases but do I order a 2.5mg or a 5mg? Or both?

Kernowmaidporth · 21/08/2025 22:20

I was so excited when I started. Kept losing loads. Then it’s all stopped ! I have had 10 days stuck at the same weight. I was determined to stay on lowest dose but am now going to go up to 5mg and see if it kicks start it again. Tomorrow will be my 5th jab @ 2.5mg. I have lost 13 pound. (didn’t know we could order more than one pen - I want to avoid the price hike ! )

Sausagedogsarethewurst · 21/08/2025 23:02

@timestressed I’m watching your diabetes comments with interest, I have pre-diabetes and am hoping the mj helps bring my hba1c down (I’m currently sitting at the very top of the pre-diabetes range)

How is everyone else doing? I can’t believe Aug is drawing to a close already and some on this thread are a month into their wli journey, I’m only starting week 2 but feeling the benefits already. I also started hrt a month before wli and between the two I feel like a new woman as if there is room in my head now (in a good way!)

I have decided to increase my next pen to 5mg on the suggestion of the pharmacy - not sure if it’s needed or whether I could have stayed on 2.5 but I wanted to get my order in before the prices go up. I’ll no doubt spend the next week overthinking whether that was the right move or not… I was planning to wait til I took dose 3 before deciding but the delays and price rise rather forced me to decide early. Here’s hoping it’s the right choice!

reluctantbrit · 22/08/2025 08:46

Just finished week 4 and lost a total of 6.3kg. Very happy and I can definitely see the difference in how my clothes fit and my husband also commented how my face changed (in a very nice and positive way).

I up to 5mg today, I found that my supression lessoned since W3.

But the biggest difference I have is the total absence of any cravings of sweets and biscuits. I have a teen who loves to bake and that means there is always chocolate and biscuits around but I am absolutely not bothered at all. I actually couldn't care less.

I do have the odd really small hot chocolate when I feel I need some calories and am not hungry, 200ml semi skimmed milk and 4 small tea spoons of Green and Black powder are 160 calories and 8.5g protein I discovered.

I do struggle a bit getting the protein, on average I am on the lower end of how much I should get though.
