Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

Yes. I have adhd and food addiction (and other addictions) are very common, because don't get dopamine from things non-adhd people do, so we seek it out in other ways.

I strongly suspect I am the same. I exhibit a lot of ADHD traits and dopamine seeking behaviour is a very big issue for me. Unfortunately I’m quite all or nothing to deal with these behaviours and you can’t just stop eating. The mounjaro is really having an effect on this.

Elliebird2 · 20/08/2025 11:51

I’ve been on this for only a week and it’s the first time in years that I’ve stuck to a calorie deficit for a whole week. I’m weighing tomorrow and really nervous to see if I’ve lost anything but the calmness in my head has actually felt like a miracle. I’m not thinking about food constantly. Been averaging between 1200-1500 calories a day over this week. I’m normally a huge grazer and can’t stop eating between meals.

I'm not diagonosed so I'm not sure if I have ADHD or it's a trauma response. However I have had to quit:
Smoking
Alcohol
Any form of credit etc

I've been working with a food therapist too to try and identify if my weight gain over the years is something deeper. The main thing I really found (and what actually prompted this decision to do MJ) is the dopamine seeking behaviour. Food was never an issue for me growing up in terms of how I looked. I was a very slight and small person until I hit my mid-20s, with minimum effort. Now, though, different story and food has been a central part of my job, my personality, my hobbies, my relationship etc. And I can't simply just cut it off.

The logic being that if I make it less "pleasurable" and buid in the pause long enough for me to change my habits and reliance on it for certain moments (most of my weight gain comes from night time snacking in front of the TV), then I won't revert back to it.

That's the plan anyway, lol

I have the exactly the same as you! Slim until late twenties(birth of first child), working in food industry and food becoming a hobby. I still feel a bit lost with what to replace it with at the moment as it isn’t giving me the same joy. Cleaning isn’t as fun!

RedPony1 · 20/08/2025 12:32

Please can i sneak in on the end of August? 😃

I'm a newbie and my order was dispatched this morning! Panicking I've not done enough research!

I don't even know if it's best to do it morning/evening for example

thecomedyofterrors · 20/08/2025 13:07

@RedPony1 Welcome! Apparently best to do it in the evening, so any immediate tiredness or side effects can be slept through. Where did you get it prescribed and was it quick?

Thank you!

i did Simple Online Pharmacy with a friend code on Friday 15th.
it was approved last night (19th) and dispatched today!

Thistleton · 20/08/2025 13:59

Weighed today and have lost 3.4k in two and a half weeks - really happy as I don't have loads to lose plus I am on a sub-dose (1.25mg) to avoid SE.

I am increasing very slowly as I have a lot of anxiety about vomiting so I'm needing to use a lot of willpower, but I'm definitely finding the compulsion to eat isn't as strong as usual and I feel satisfied on less than I would normally eat. It's not exactly suppression but something definitely feels easier - or at least more within my control.

All or nothing is also an adhd trait. The only time I lost weight in the past is when I went all in on exercising and literally exercised twice a day, or made eating healthy my hyperfixation

Yep me too, I know exactly what you mean and I’ve done the exact same in the past but like anything else with ADHD I eventually got bored when the novelty wore off. I’m finding mounjaro exceptionally good for reducing the dopamine seeking and also for inflammation as I have loads of issues from being hypermobile also linked with ND.

AsteriaBuffy · 20/08/2025 16:06

W4 D1 - 5lbs down over 3 weeks. Not stellar, but consoling myself with the fact that a large box of wine weighs about 5 lbs. Or 9 packs of butter! 😂

HighlandCauliflower · 20/08/2025 16:59

AsteriaBuffy
Well done on your loss.
I used to fill 2 litre bottles with water (weighs approx 2kg) then pick them up and see how heavy it was, used to really help to have a physical reminder of what I'd lost.
Edited as forgot to quote AsteriaBuffy

I’m going to attempt it tomorrow. I’m not going to do the whole buying insulin needles and stuff however. If I can twist it, great, if not then I’ll move on.

Managed to put through one more order with Medexpress today. So I have one in my fridge, which I ordered before the price increase. One I ordered Monday and one I ordered today. The date available for re-ordering now is the 3rd. I’m a touch worried though as I’m away again next week (last time I swear!!!) and with the delays I’m a bit worried it’ll be delivered when I’m gone.

It’s my birthday next week as well. The big 40 and with the inflammation reduction and the quietness of the food noise I feel so good.

All the pens I’ve requested are 2.5mg as well.

May I ask @saywhaaaaaat how you’re going to do it if you’re not buying new needles? Sterilise and re-use the last needle??

LaGioiosanotLeviosa · 20/08/2025 21:24

So I’ve got my second dose tomorrow, did anyone else find more suppression on their 2nd week or is it always the same at the first? I’ve had a bit of suppression on day 4 and 5 but that’s all and was wondering if as it builds up over the month it gets better?

justjuggling · 20/08/2025 21:35

Evening all! Weighed today, only 1.5lbs off this week but that’s 15lbs in 3 weeks so can’t complain!

Going to do my 4th dose before heading to bed in a bit.

Still no word from med express so starting to worry about having no pen next week. 🙄

thecomedyofterrors · 20/08/2025 22:28

@justjugglingIve done my 4th dose and haven’t been prescribed my new pen by Medexpress. Pretty disappointed by them. I’ve ordered needles to use the golden dose, which I hadn’t intended to but don’t feel I’ve an option now.

Where did you get the needles from? I’m planning on doing the same. Hopefully your new one arrives soon.

Jean74 · 21/08/2025 06:33

Morning all, well done on fantastic losses and sticking with the journey. Just done my third 2.5mg injection.

SW: 102kg
CW: 97.5kg
TW: 90kg
Overall, I have lost 2 inches off my bust, 1 inch off my waist and 2 inches off my hips. If being honest, I had hoped to lose a bit more by now but I'm steadily losing a small amount of weight each day and 4.5kg loss is still decent. On previous diets I lost 5-7kg quickly, then plateaued at 95kg and then got discouraged and shot back up to 100+kg so what I'm hoping for here is a slow, and sustainable loss, which changes my eating habits for life, it's a marathon not a sprint this time. I have my next pen which is 5mg awaiting me in my fridge and I might lose more on higher dose? Well done ladies we've got this 💪

Haribosweets · 21/08/2025 07:11

Morning, I have done my first week with 5ib gone! That's the most ive ever lost 1st week wise. I know it won't be that each week though.
I'm wondering when to order my next pen though. I don't want to do it too early incase I need to move up but at the moment the 2.5 is doing its job.
I have ADHD and awaiting medication for it. I was diagnosed in January. The impulsiveness to eat all the time and addiction to sweets is massive. This 1st week I haven't been able to eat sweets at all - just the smell put me off!

Warmcupoftea · 21/08/2025 07:18

@LaGioiosanotLeviosa I found the suppression built over time and the worse side effect day is normally the second day after taking it. So 36 to 48 hours later. After my fourth week of 2.5 I thought it was far too strong for me, so I won’t be going up a dose yet.

mounjaring · 21/08/2025 07:29

Weigh in day...

end of week 2, another 4lb gone. So 9lb in total now.

im eating really well and no snacks at all, not once thought about chocolate, crisps etc.

ive decided to stay on 2.5mg for as long as possible, no point in moving up if not needed.

today I saw a number on the scales that I just couldn't achieve with slimming world, second nature, weight watchers etc etc. I lost 2.5 stone last year with SW but reached a certain weight and just couldn't get beyond it no matter how I tried. In my heart I knew it couldn't be ok to just eat as much pasta etc as I liked, or save my syns for chocolate and crisps. Mounjaro has pushed me beyond that weight.

its a small landmark but I've constantly battled to get to that single
digit in the stone, the dreaded .9 as I've called it many times. Today I went beyond it and now feel like it's actually possible!!

Ambernectarine22 · 21/08/2025 07:46

@Haribosweets Congrats on your first week’s impressive loss! Do you think the Mounjaro is helping with other ADHD traits as well as your impulsive eating?

Ambernectarine22 · 21/08/2025 07:56

I don’t know about you lot, but aside from the lack of food noise, I’m also enjoying the fact that I’m no longer constantly berating myself for making the wrong choices about food and being overweight and unhealthy.

my first week weigh in. I lost 5lb!! Very happy!! Probably mostly water but given me a boost to see the scales finally move. My second jab today.

edited - sorry I didn’t mean to quote the first post!

Thanks 🙂 its only been a week but I do think it has helped thinking about it! I nearly bought some flip flops yesterday, signed up to the mailing list to get 10% off but then thought we are almost in September and I won't need them much now this year so I didn't 🙃
