Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

Ugh

just had an email from Asda saying that my order is delayed and will now be completed by the 28th

which is a week after I am due my next dose

Can you try getting another dose from your existing pen?

sausagesandwiches · 19/08/2025 21:23

@thatsaladim going to have to I think

don’t really want a gap of a week, especially since I’m going up to the next dose

HighlandCauliflower · 19/08/2025 21:40

sausagesandwiches would you mind me asking when you placed your order with Asda for the delay of 28th. An idea of lead time would be great. I ordered from Asda and am due to reorder at the end of the month.

W1 D4 still feeling satisfied sooner when eating a meal but feel the food noise is already creeping in.

Think I'm going to need to go up to the 5mg pen next time.

sausagesandwiches · 19/08/2025 21:49

@HighlandCauliflower I ordered it on Thursday so I would have it for this Thursday

I don’t want to keep them in the fridge as I don’t want my teenage DD to see them so I knew it was going to be a delicate balance of timing but when the price hike was announced my heart sank

the original confirmation said 4-8 days which I was ok about as it would have only been 1 day late but I really don’t want to go a week

I ordered mine with asda on Thursday too but haven't had an email about additional delays yet, I may well get the email tomorrow. Like you @sausagesandwiches i don't want to store mine in the fridge (I'm staying with family and don't want them to know I'm using WLI so left it quite late to order). Are you going to try to get another dose out of your old pen? I think I will try if my new one isn't here in time

HighlandCauliflower · 19/08/2025 22:03

sausagesandwiches thank you, they advised a reorder date, I might try a few days early.

I was planning on trying to get the golden dose. I could only just afford it on the current price, going to struggle with the increase.

saywhaaaaaat · 19/08/2025 22:28

That’s not ideal at all really. I was fortunate enough to order when I got the offer to early and I’m waiting to get my third one signed off. Looks like I have the option of ordering again tomorrow as well?

I should be W3D1 today, but with the announcement of the price rises, and discovering that suppression is still working 7 days in, I’m now on W2D8, so to speak. If I manage to get out a 5th dose, and run 8 day weeks, every pen will last me 40 days.

  • not based on medical knowledge, so am not recommending this! *

My provider has posted my 2nd pen, and I also managed to order one from MedExpress, which has been delivered already. I’ll try to order another one (or two) before Sept 1st.

I don’t want to move off GLP-1 / Mounjaro… so perhaps this journey is going to take me only up to Christmas.

First week weigh in yesterday - down 3.7lbs.

Average daily calories - just under 1600
Average daily protein - 103.5
Average daily fibre - 21.5g

Plan this week is to increase fibre. Have been eating 3 or 4 prunes the last few days as I felt a bit bunged up and they worked gently 😁 Feel fuller after eating but still want to eat. Biggest change is no desire to snack outside of my 3 meals a day.

Need to move more but find this a challenge as I am desk based 9 hours a day. Sleep is disturbed but not a new thing for me.

Unsure if I can continue after the price increase

MrsSuu · 20/08/2025 06:51

First week weight in and I have lost 8.8lb. I am honestly over the moon. I’m only 5 foot 2 inches and have really struggled this year with personal issues that have really had an impact on my weight due to lack of mobility. It is probably a whole lot of water but the main difference I feel is that I am no longer bloated and uncomfortable. I have felt so much calmer too. I used to wake up with heart palpitations and they seem to have subsided. I still have suppression on day seven so I’m going to push my next pen for another day.

The price increase is worrying however this is life changing. I have been using weprescribe.co.uk and they very kindly price matched when I had a panic over raising costs. Have a lovely week everyone x

Thanks for everyone’s advice on supplements! I am going to get researching

hi @RoseHedgehogs how is your research going? I found this article and thought of you. It’s pretty convincing on the benefits of creatine: www.independent.co.uk/health-and-fitness/creatine-for-women-benefits-effects-b2806248.html

Did everyone take the golden dose from their first pen? I just wondered how much there was roughly in the 2.5?
Im nervous to do it and have no idea why really as it should be straightforward!

I haven’t yet but I definitely will when the time comes.

In case this info is useful to anyone, I ordered from Asda on 14th August (as a new customer to them), received the message that it would be reviewed by Thurs 21st… it has been approved this morning and pens (2.5 and 5 bundle) are being delivered tomorrow.

I’m going to attempt it tomorrow. I’m not going to do the whole buying insulin needles and stuff however. If I can twist it, great, if not then I’ll move on.

Managed to put through one more order with Medexpress today. So I have one in my fridge, which I ordered before the price increase. One I ordered Monday and one I ordered today. The date available for re-ordering now is the 3rd. I’m a touch worried though as I’m away again next week (last time I swear!!!) and with the delays I’m a bit worried it’ll be delivered when I’m gone.

It’s my birthday next week as well. The big 40 and with the inflammation reduction and the quietness of the food noise I feel so good.

All the pens I’ve requested are 2.5mg as well.

@saywhaaaaaat Happy Birthday for next week!

The price increase has got me concentrating on how I got to this weight and how I want to keep it off as it’s too expensive to keep taking the jabs.

I have just begun to read Ultra processed people by Chris Van Tulleken, the part that has struck a chord with me ( and I’m paraphrasing) is where he speaks about only the first mouthful of these foods are delightful. It’s so true, no matter how much I eat after this mouthful I can never find that deliciousness again, but I keep searching for it by eating more and more.

Hi @saywhaaaaaat sorry if this is a stupid question but how can you get the golden dose without extra needles?

I was trying to relax and see what will happen about MJ prices (after watch Dr Emma Ander’s latest video) but I’m starting to worry about my next pen - both the price and availability. I wrote to IQ doctor last week to ask for assurances and still heard nothing from them. In the meantime I can’t order on the website until 21 days after my first order. Wondering if I should jump ship and try another pharmacy but as I am just under 30 BMI (since starting MJ) I don’t know if I can get it elsewhere.

Ambernectarine22 · 20/08/2025 08:26

@Warmcupoftea Interesting about the first mouthful. I completely agree. I used to work with an ex-cocaine-addict who said that the first ever time he took it was amazing, and every time he took it thereafter he was looking for that same kind of feeling - but never quite got it again. I'm a bit the same with alcohol: the first glass is great, but the second's not as good.

That book changed so much for me and while my diet hasn’t been great, I have been eating way more whole foods etc. the first mouthful thing is how I quit smoking as well. I think that’s why I’m trying to stay as low as I can because I probably don’t have as much to lose as some but also treating it more like a guardrail to get those thoughts in check.

apparently you can really crank the twisty bit and force it. Some people use pliers etc

it’s off label but I though it might be worth a try

There’s apparently a real correlation between things like ADHD and trauma and this isn’t there?

OP posts:
Ambernectarine22 · 20/08/2025 08:38

@saywhaaaaaat I didn’t know about that link, but it makes sense. Thanks for starting this thread. I was very nervous about my first jab, but it’s been reassuring (and often inspiring) to read so many other peoples’ experiences!

Sausagedogsarethewurst · 20/08/2025 08:54

Quick post: W2D1

Just done second jab and weighed this am - 2.3kg lost in my first week.

SW 87kg
CW 84.7kg
GW 70kg

Yes. I have adhd and food addiction (and other addictions) are very common, because don't get dopamine from things non-adhd people do, so we seek it out in other ways.

I'm not diagonosed so I'm not sure if I have ADHD or it's a trauma response. However I have had to quit:
Smoking
Alcohol
Any form of credit etc

I've been working with a food therapist too to try and identify if my weight gain over the years is something deeper. The main thing I really found (and what actually prompted this decision to do MJ) is the dopamine seeking behaviour. Food was never an issue for me growing up in terms of how I looked. I was a very slight and small person until I hit my mid-20s, with minimum effort. Now, though, different story and food has been a central part of my job, my personality, my hobbies, my relationship etc. And I can't simply just cut it off.

The logic being that if I make it less "pleasurable" and buid in the pause long enough for me to change my habits and reliance on it for certain moments (most of my weight gain comes from night time snacking in front of the TV), then I won't revert back to it.

That's the plan anyway, lol

@Pollypot25 I’m in the same position having just crept under a bmi of 30, so not sure what happens if I change supplier. I expect it would be fine as it’s continuing a process but would be so upset to have a prescription rejected.

@saywhaaaaaat I am also going to attempt the golden dose- though quite nervously! I’ve ordered twice since last Friday through Medexpress, so there 2 weeks wait between orders is not happening. But I’ve been waiting on a clinical review since last Friday and also away for the week from Saturday. So now worried these pens will sit outside and be useless. They’ve said to expect delays. Have you had your clinical review approved?
