Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

Thanks @jan2310 and @Pumpernickelbrakes.

Assuming the scales are accurate (I keep looking at the photo I took in disbelief!) then I am presuming this is likely to be ‘water weight’ in my first week so I’m not expecting this dramatic decrease to continue. I’ll be happy with slow and steady. Maybe this is why I’ve felt quite fatigued this week - perhaps not eating enough calories? Even though I’ve been eating three times a day the portions have been considerably smaller than I would usually eat and I’ve had no desire for a sugary hit that I usually can’t resist (a spoonful or more of Nutella for example 🫣 revolting I know but even knowing it’s gross I previously couldn’t stop myself!). I think I’d better start tracking calories to make sure I’m eating enough. I had hoped that just smaller portions of what I usually eat would be fine. I had been wondering if it was will power or the MJ this week but after getting hungry today, I think it must have been the MJ!

So good to hear everyone getting on so well.

I take electrolytes, magnesium and B12 injections every 8 weeks - I have been on these since starting HRT a few years ago.

Changed my injection day to today (Monday) instead of tomorrow as have a last minute morning meeting in Edinburgh planned and don’t want to be doing it at 5am before I set off. I will however weigh in tomorrow as planned and on Mondays thereafter.

reluctantbrit · 19/08/2025 07:48

@Pollypot25 - try drinking calories, dairy based smoothie with oats and banana for example.

I do have days were I don't eat a lot and definitely feel worse. So my diet is a lot more protein now and carbs are down, especially white bread or pasta.

I also have hardly any need for sugar, a teaspoon of honey in my greek yoghurt is most days the only sugar item I have.

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 19/08/2025 09:04

Just over 1kg lost taking me to 4.6kg in three weeks.

saywhaaaaaat · 19/08/2025 11:08

Hey all. I'm coming up to 5th jab on Thursday, going to attempt to get the golden dose out, but have a box in the fridge ready to go.

I have to admit something and I'm a bit worried. In all the panic about pricing, in the dark dark hours, I tried to order from another pharmacy and I may not have filled in the form properly. I forgot about it and then I reordered from MedExpress. Neither has been reviewed yet and then I panicked and realised that either pharmacy might see the other, so i've tried to cancel the one from the other pharmacy.

Now silence. Bit worried I've shot myself in the foot here and I'll get cut off.

I don't know why I did it either! It was such a knee jerk to everything is going on. You don't think they'll both reject me now?

Also, in other news MedExpress used to 2 weeks between orders. Ordered yesterday (under clinical review) and I can reorder again tomorrow?

Hi all, I took first dose Sat night, lower appetite Sunday /Monday but still enjoyed food when I ate. My plantar fascitis which has been bugging me for months was also absent Sunday morning and only vaguely coming back Mon the evenings. I had read MJ had anti inflammatory effect, can it really work that quickly??
Anyway today is the first time I've felt nausea. Its manageable but noticeable and I am definitely less even inclined to have lunch!!

That was the first thing I noticed was the inflammation drop, especially my face!

Sounds like a good first few days!

I've just had a message from Medexpress saying there is a delay of 7-10 days, which is annoying but they've allowed me to order sooner so I won't miss any doses.

Fairly sure, the other pharmacy will just reject/cancel my panic order and I can continue as normal with my supplier. Where I'm on the 2.5mg and aiming to stay on that for as long as required I am hoping I'll have less supply issues than those on higher pens.

SW: 94.8kg
CW: 87.5kg

7.3kg down so far, I'll be one month in on .... Saturday. Pretty pleased with that!

and now they just sent me a questionnaire about what I'm planning to do... what am I unsure of etc....

I wonder if it's so they can priortise those who want to stick with MJ, and then maybe started shifting purchasing to Wegovy...

Very odd

W2 D3 and I am struggling to eat anything today. Had a couple of spoons of yoghurt with fruit this morning and 3 spoons into my tomato soup for lunch and I don't want anymore. I am very focused on eating healthy when having meals so I get the nutrition I need and having to make myself eat - the WLI are almost working too well i'd like a bit more appetite!

Pumpernickelbrakes · 19/08/2025 14:52

Weighing in at start of W2

SW - 194lb (or 87.9kg)
CW - 189 lb (actually 189.2 but whatever) (or 85.7kg)
GW - 130lb (or 58.9kg)

Down (almost) five pounds. (Or 2.2kg)

One inch off waist (or 2.5cm)

I have been eating around 1200 - 1400 calories and it’s been a struggle some days to eat that. Normally on a diet I find anything below 1600 really hard. I’ve hit 100g protein every day.

I think I’m under-eating considering the amounts of weight training.

I have worked out 20m with dumbbells and 30-46m on elliptical most days. It’s too hot to walk where I live, so I’m stuck inside.

I’m really concerned about losing muscle, so doing all I can to increase muscle mass and lose the dangerous visceral fat which has given me a distended abdomen. I hope some of this weight was water weight. I expect loss to slow down from here on, which is fine, I’m 54, trying to avoid shriveling.

SweetDreamsAreMadeOfCheese87 · 19/08/2025 15:43

Hi all. Weigh and injection day for me too. About to do my 3rd jab. Lost 3lb, happy with that!
Has anyone else had their period since starting? Mine was last week and my usual ‘snackish’ feelings were back as usual when it’s my time!
I also haven’t now been to the loo for 3 days which is unlike me… should I take something to help that?!

Anyway

Pumpernickelbrakes · 19/08/2025 15:55

@SweetDreamsAreMadeOfCheese87 good stuff with the weigh in!
I find magnesium citrate helps with constipation. I already take take magnesium glycinate for sleep, adding the mag citrate has sorted the 💩.

I eat probiotic prunes, probiotic yogurt and kefir and lots of veg as well plus endless water and they probably help but the magnesium was the game changer.

SweetDreamsAreMadeOfCheese87 · 19/08/2025 16:16

Thanks @Pumpernickelbrakes I’ll give the magnesium a try!
Had a small puddle of fluid on my thigh after my injection so guess I managed to move the needle a lose a bit 🤦🏻‍♀️ I get so nervous doing it!

Feeling a bit down. 2nd week day 2 and havent reallt felt much supression at all yet! Very mildly for a few days last week. I lost 1lb but I also had upped my swimming. Im on 2.5mg wegovy. Anyone else had a slow start?

reluctantbrit · 19/08/2025 17:54

I can definitely recommend Magnesium for constipation. After two weeks of forcing it with Dulcolax, Magnesium is doing the trick.

AsteriaBuffy · 19/08/2025 18:00

@Tiredearlyriser I've only lost about 3 pounds in 3 weeks on Mounjaro. I think for me a combination of not huge suppression and being distracted during social events when it's not so easy to think about what you're eating and drinking.

Hopefully will be easier this week as not much on. I'm torn between thinking a pound a week is actually fine and I'm lucky not to have side effects and still enjoying food, and being frustrated it's not more. But it's very early days for both of us, onwards and downwards!

I had a slow start but I am okay with that, as I honestly just want the food noise to quieten (which it has), I am okay with not dropping the weight quickly. I am also scared off dropping it quickly, getting off the mounjaro and the food noise returning. Then what??

sausagesandwiches · 19/08/2025 18:37

I’m 4 jabs in and this is the first week constipation has got me but I have ibs that fluctuates anyway so I’m not sure if it’s MJ or one of my usual cycles

off to Holland an Barrett tomorrow to see what magnesium supplements they have 🤣

I reordered with med express a week ago and was told 7-10 days. It hasn’t been approved yet. And I also had the questionnaire today. I have one injection left to take tomorrow so keeping my fingers crossed that the next pen comes quickly!!

sausagesandwiches · 19/08/2025 20:26

Ugh

just had an email from Asda saying that my order is delayed and will now be completed by the 28th

which is a week after I am due my next dose

@SweetDreamsAreMadeOfCheese87 I've had two periods since starting (thanks to perimenopause mine are often now every other week). My first one started the day after my first injection and I wasn't feeling hungry at all but the second one I was wanting to snack again. Not as much as I would have done before starting the injections but I was definitely feeling hungrier.

I've struggled a bit with constipation too. I'm trying to drink lots of water and eat plenty of fibre but I might try magnesium as others have suggested.

@sausagesandwiches when did you place your order? I'm with asda aswell, I ordered last week and had an email yesterday to say it should be reviewed by the Dr by Thursday this week, but my next jab is due on Friday.
