Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

I’m on day 4 of my first week and still no suppression! I’m starting to wonder if I’ll be one of those people who have to be on a high dose for it to work?
Im obviously still eating healthier and smaller portions but it’s no different to when I’m on a normal diet!

I felt like this, but as I was looking back on my first week it was noticeable that I was eating much less. Things I previously hadn’t really noticed I was eating!! I haven’t gone off food completely like others, but going to a bbq and having one burger and salad… normally I’d have to try one of everything! 😂

AsteriaBuffy · 18/08/2025 12:48

Feeling a bit meh at the moment. I'm definitely eating less as in smaller portions and not nearly as much snacking, but on W3 D6 still only a two or three pounds down. It's been really busy socially and with family events so difficult to be strict and keep tabs :S

Still, at least things are moving in the right direction and I've been lucky not to have any side effects beyond week 1.

My previous supplier was out of stock so using a new one, had to make a snap decision so ordered one 5mg pen. Now dithering about whether to try and stock up with more before Sept. I did have a thought that I might try a 3.75mg step up dose from the 5mg pen, am also going to have a go at the golden dose.

Is anyone else moving up to 5mg?

Yeah it could be this, I’m deliberately trying not to eat as much but can’t say that’s because I’m not hungry or don’t fancy it because I am hungry and do fancy it! 😂
I will lose some water weight this week I’m sure but will be interesting going forward what it’s like.

Pumpernickelbrakes · 18/08/2025 14:23

great to hear everyone’s results and efforts

Is anyone who recently started also starting (or increasing) weight training/resistance training? I was thinking of starting a thread about it.

Last day of week 1 and it’s all gone great. I’m thinking about changing my WLI day to Monday instead of Tuesday and doing dose 2 today.

Will weigh later and post my first week results. The only issue this week has been constipation (first two days post jab). Tried prunes, kefir, kiwis, finally it was extra magnesium that worked. I was already eating lots of plant fibre and drinking water. Suppression has definitely been a thing especially from day 3 onwards.

I am weight training - well once a week. Just more strength and toning. I have been for over a year now

Haribosweets · 18/08/2025 15:43

So today has been totally different and I feel so full. I have had to force myself to eat. Yesterday I was feeling hungry. Total opposite today. I bought a yoghurt drink with 350 calories in to get something in me!

jan2310 · 18/08/2025 15:56

I’ve just done my W4 injection. I did it a day early as I’m going away on a work trip tomorrow and also weighed in. So after 3 weeks I’ve lost 3.95kg/8.7lb which I’m really pleased with. I’ve been trying to eat normally, but healthy food and smaller portions. I always enjoy my food when I eat it but don’t have any appetite for it and could easily skip meals but I’m trying not to do that.

I feel really positive about everything, and I’m going to increase to 5mg next week, although I’m very nervous about side effects.

Are you finding weight training harder, easier or the same? I had 4 weeks off because of school summer holiday travel - family visits etc - but I’m back on it and since prioritizing protein and starting creatine I’m lifting heavier dumbbells and have more energy. Apart from one day when I was knackered, MJ seems to be helping with working out, as long as I’m eating enough.

I only started my MJ journey last Wednesday but I feel like I could do more - although when I go to the gym tomorrow I probably have no energy at all 🤣 I did some weights at home yesterday but no different to what I normally do x

Are people taking any supplements now they’re on the injections? Just reading a few posts about taking additional things but not sure what I should/ could be taking and what’s the benefit. Any advice much appreciated!

I take collagen peptides, creatine monohydrate and amino acid/electrolytes - they are all powders - mixed with iced water and I drink it from a water bottle while I’m walking/working out every morning. The electrolytes come in fruit flavours so it’s nice to sip

plus extra Omega 3, Vit B complex, Vit D3 to supplement my diet

and magnesium citrate and magnesium glycinate to help me sleep and avoid constipation.

re supplements I succumbed to a whacking great collagen ad on FB - it said it goes great with Mounjaro so I was sucked in 😂Never tried collagen before but could do with a complexion boost if nothing else, so giving it a go. It's quite easy to bung in with granola and yoghurt and gives it a bit of 'body' which is quite pleasant.

Other than that just usual vitamins etc, plus a fizzy tablet (Phizz) for electrolytes.

AsteriaBuffy · 18/08/2025 17:19

oh and forgot magnesium - I've got two on the go, one is mag glycinate, the other has zinc with it. V good for constipation, too good sometimes!

I’m not massively convinced of the benefits of collagen - could not find much supporting evidence for it - but I’m already wrinkly enough on my neck and I lost a bunch of hair a few years ago as a result of my thyroid disorder so I thought fuck it and I’m taking it 😆

I had my first pen nearly 4 weeks ago, and my bmi has just about crept under 30. Yes- good news to be dropping weight, but what does this mean for reordering pens? I’m so thrilled to be on this to curb food cravings, but scared it’ll end. Do they accept lower bmi’s?!

MrsSuu · 18/08/2025 18:37

I’m not 100% certain but when you re-subscribe they will look at your previous prescription and take that into account.

Rorpethy · 18/08/2025 18:39

I had a sneaky weigh in this morning at w2d6 and I've lost 8lb. Very happy with that. I am struggling a bit as although I'm not feeling hungry at all, I'm still getting cravings for sweet things. I am finding it easier to say no, but definitely still have a lot of food noise.

I’m on a very similar supplements regime @Pumpernickelbrakes and @RoseHedgehogs with creatine being the most recent addition. I don’t take B12 or amino acid/electrolytes…maybe I should but my bill for supplements is already huge! Which electrolytes do you take @Pumpernickelbrakes?

I’ve done 1 week on MJ (just had my second jab) and running has been harder work but it is always harder in the heat. It’s a bit cooler now so will see how I get on this week and start monitoring calories to make sure I get enough.

Pollypot25 · 18/08/2025 19:25

W2 D1:
SW: 80.6kg (12 stone 10 lb)
CW: 77.2kg (12 stone 2.5lb)
GW: 57kg (8 stone 13 lb)
Loss 3.4kg (7.5lb).

Surprised by this and wondering if my scales are accurate!

I started to feel very hungry today so I was glad I needed to do the second jab.

Is anyone else using dose diary? I’m finding it very helpful - useful to see the half life of MJ on the graph.

I'm in the same situation, my next jab should be with my second pen. I ordered it last week (through asda again), my bmi had dropped just below 30. It hasn't been reviewed by their Dr yet as there are delays, I'm hoping they'll approve it as they've prescribed it to me before

I use Optimum Nutrition- the powder - its way cheaper than buying individual sachets or tablets or cans of electrolytes. Similar to this one but has electrolytes in as well. Watermelon flavour.

Am living abroad so I’m on the US variant: the U.K. site doesn’t seem to have the electrolytes added but I’m sure there are similar things available onlime

@Pollypot25 wow! Over half a stone!

jan2310 · 18/08/2025 20:49
