Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

Yes, i didn't feel anything until day 3. I'm coming to the end of my 2nd week and it has cut my appetite but I still think about food so the whole "food noise" thing is still a battle. I have now lost about 9lb. It is an aid to me cutting portion size and getting back into healthier habits. (Wish it was the magic jab that all the very anti brigade seem to think it is!!)

@BooksandcheeseI’m not feeling much suppression coming towards the end of my third week. I’m looking forward to my next jab. But 9lb in 2 weeks is amazing - surely that does make it a ‘magic jab’? Well done.

thatsalad · 16/08/2025 19:07

Do you think about food as much though? I still think about it too, but not as often and not as intensely

I’m only in my first week so it may wear off but I am not thinking about food at all. I have been forcing myself to eat a small breakfast, lunch and a small dinner. It’s interesting how my tummy hasn’t even rumbled. I am really trying to drink plenty of water so that might be a factor.

mounjaring · 16/08/2025 21:00

I can't believe the clarity of thought I have on MJ. I was sat thinking earlier about other things than food. In the past food has literally never been off my mind.

its like it's cleared a space for me to think about other things, I've read a book this week, something I've not done in ages. I've cleared out a load of cupboards, something I couldn't get round to as I was always too busy (tired) to do.

I haven't had any nauseous or side effects, I've been able to eat normal
but healthier meals, so I know I'm lucky, but it's like it's literally switched off the humming noise around food.

peanutbutty · 16/08/2025 21:10

Hope it's okay to join. Just injected first dose, arggggh. SW 99kg.

W4 today and have done my 4th jab. There is still LOADSSSSSSSS left in the pen as well.

Weighed this morning and it had climbed a bit since yesterday but it's been hot and I'm fairly sure it's water retention.

Away again this weekend (campervan ftw) and we'll be eating out, but it's a fairly healthy neck of the woods.

Feeling good, my husband has noticed I've lost weight, and chatting to my therapist she said that it sounded like I was in a good place as well. I feel really good as well, like I'm nowhere near where I want to be yet but I feel like... good. It's really nice.

So as of 4th week jab.
SW: 94.8kg
CW: 88.2kg
TW: 63kg

That’s the golden dose as some call it

they give extra to prime but usually .7 left so a whole dose of whatever strength so do use it as 5th week

Possibly not as intensely. I haven't had the i could murder a Chinese takeaway thoughts but I'm not sure if that's because I know i just won't eat it so it's a huge waste of money. I have woken up today thinking about a roast dinner though!!

Thank you. I am very happy with that and I know it will slow down. I think what I meant is that some people seem to think you just jab and carry on as normal and you get magically thin. When the reality is I have to be very careful about what I'm eating (because I don't feel like eating) and keep exercising too so that I create the new way to live once I stop taking it. As a serial yo yo dieter the worry is I'll just gain it all back again.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 17/08/2025 09:09

W2D1

W1 lost 3lb so I’m happy with that. I would say yesterday the suppression started wearing off a bit, but not unexpected and I only ate a small part of the carb element of yesterdays dinner (crispy potato slices and garlic bread - I previously would have eaten until uncomfortably full).

I find it definitely helps (like on any diet I suppose) to have my meals planned out and I usually add the entries into MFP in the morning to see where I will be for the day.

Will avoid a Greggs croissant when we stop to pick up a coffee on our walk this morning but will take a baby bel to eat while DH eats his 😆

I've been trying to catch up with the thread but reading the old stuff means I'm missing the current, so will read current and pop back to catch up when I find time.

luvabellawilleatme thanks, how have you got on with your first day and a half?

Jean74 thats really useful information

Selfsaboteur I've had a dry throat/mouth and cough. Only took my first dose Friday evening

mounjaring wow the extra head space would be good

First day was good, didn't feel hungry.
Had a late breakfast cause I just wasn't hungry then missed lunch cause I wasn't hungry after a late breakfast. Made myself eat dinner though.
I've got to be mindful of my protein intake, because I don't eat meat, fish or dairy.

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 17/08/2025 11:42

@MrJollyLivesNextDoorwell done. I am using the same approach, MFP to plan and prioritise protein and fibre then simply that’s my allowance for the day. When I know I won’t finish a meal I leave the carbs (with ease 🤯) and prioritise eating the protein - even I don’t recognise me!

CrispsAreMyVice · 17/08/2025 11:48

W2,D1

Did my second jab yesterday evening and weighed in this morning. Really pleased with how the first week went. I think a few pounds of it were probably water! I’ve started doing more exercise. Walking daily, cardio, light strength training. Not really had any side effects on 2.5 so far. Onwards and upwards 😊

Well done everyone on your losses!
Second jab for me today, 5lb lost in the first week which I’m really pleased with. Going to work on increasing activity levels this week but I have been feeling extra tired

LnicMJ · 17/08/2025 18:26

Help, im confused. About to take my first dose of 2.5 from a 2.5 pens today.
On the instructions it says turn to 1 for 0.6 ml dose - should I still turn it to 1 or higher? TIA

Yea, still turn to 1. The 2.5 is the milligram of active drug whereas the 0.6 is the volume of liquid. ☺️

@CrispsAreMyVicethank you... im a proper novice but excited to hopefully see results soon! ☺️🤞

Don’t worry, you’re in good company on here. Hope week one goes well! ☺️

Bashitcrazy · 17/08/2025 18:34

Hi - can I join? I started on 1st August and have lost 11 pounds so far. Absolutely over the moon. I’m planning to stay on 2.5mg for as long as possible. Especially with the price increases coming in to force.

LnicMJ · 17/08/2025 20:05

Just done 1st jab, not too bad tbf... im going to jab Sunday night and do weigh ins Monday morning as I've always preferred morning weigh ins, so will take tomorrow's weight as official start weight.
Wish me luck and good luck to all this week, looks like some impressive losses and hope I can report a loss next week too!

LnicMJ · 17/08/2025 20:07

@Bashitcrazy well done, thats impressive! First jab today and I love seeing people's losses, it gives me hope that I will be joining the losers club soon!

Haribosweets · 17/08/2025 23:15

My 1st jab was Wednesday and today felt more hungry. Although when eating I get full quick! Did a quick weigh and loss 3ib but will will obviously weigh on Wednesday for official weight. I'm hoping I will get suppression again when I do 2nd jab

LaGioiosanotLeviosa · 18/08/2025 07:56

I’m on day 4 of my first week and still no suppression! I’m starting to wonder if I’ll be one of those people who have to be on a high dose for it to work?
Im obviously still eating healthier and smaller portions but it’s no different to when I’m on a normal diet!

RalphtheMouth · 18/08/2025 07:57

Morning all. Did second jab last night, first weigh in this morning and 5.5 lbs down, with no side effects, so happy with that!

Thank you ☺️ I think I am still in denial and just astounded that it actually works. I wish I had found it earlier.

I’ve done my 4th dose this morning - definitely knew it was due as my stomach has been growling. I’ve kept the pen to use the 5th dose next week. I am thinking about jabbing early this week - maybe Thursday or Friday to cover the weekend as I feel like it’s wearing off and it’s when I am most likely to make the bad choices.
has anyone else done this? I will be jabbing twice in one week, or should I gradually move it over a couple of weeks?

My plan is to gradually move up and stick to my weekly jabs. W3 D7 here and found I was looking for breakfast yesterday and this morning. I don’t want to fully suppress my hunger, more give myself time to reprogram the way I approach food so figure feeling a bit hungry sometimes is definitely something I need to become accustomed to.

I take mine on a Friday evening. I only picked a Friday as I was worried about side effects and thought they would probably be worse over the weekend if I did get any, so easiest not to be at work if feeling unwell. If you want to switch the day you inject the advise from https://mounjaro.lilly.com/how-to-use-mounjaro
is:

"If you want to change the day of the week you take your dose, make sure there are at least 3 days (72 hours) between doses"

so you could just do your next one on either Thursday or Friday and then stick to that day going forward if that works for you
