Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

I have the pen and I’m too scared to do it:(

sausagesandwiches · 14/08/2025 12:51

@Elliebird2you can do it!

is it the injection itself (cause honestly it doesn’t hurt) or the worry about the side effects -because most people seem to find they aren’t as bad as they are made out to be

either way -we got you!

It’s the side effects, feeling irrational like something terrible is going to happen to me :(

jan2310 · 14/08/2025 13:22

@Elliebird2I felt like you a couple of weeks ago. I was scared of what the side effects would be. It was fine, I did have some side effects but they were very mild. I’m sure it’s the same for most people. You’ll be fine, and we’re all here for you.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 14/08/2025 14:04

@Elliebird2i felt the same as you but the only side effect I’ve had is a bit of a headache - I was drinking loads of water so I know it wasn’t that, I think I had gone too long between eating and had been sat out in the sun…I had something small to eat and it soon went.

You will probably be absolutely fine, go for it

Elliebird2 · 14/08/2025 14:05

I’ve done it! Just had to get it out the way otherwise I’ll think about it constantly. I hope I’m ok!!

saywhaaaaaat · 14/08/2025 15:07

I don't want to freak everybody out, but have you seen about the Eli Lilly (manufacturer of MJ) and the price increase coming?

Ouch! That's not a small increase is it.

Bet this is because more and more people will be on it via the NHS so they're losing profit from private customers.

I'm hoping, being ex-sales, that this the whole 'rate card' thing and then actually they get discounts etc etc etc. And while I gather it going up in price is going to happen (I hate that orange man SO MUCH), I wonder how much fall out we'll see from this.

I'm fairly confident I can keep it up up to a certain point, and I was always aiming to stay on the lowest dose but it does feel a bit like someone is like "here is the thing that will help you but... ah wait no, that's not for you."

It's still fairly breaking news, but I do wonder if there are going to be bad mh impacts from this. :(

I’ll be gutted if the price increase is going to be as significant, I don’t think I will be able to continue. I’m planning on ordering my second pen now to beat the increase, just trying to find the cheapest way to do it, any recommendations? I’m staying on 2.5mg.

reluctantbrit · 14/08/2025 15:53

Interesting, BUPA just decreased the price. They are still higher than other pharmacies though.

justjuggling · 14/08/2025 16:21

I saw it on the news earlier and just wish I’d started MJ sooner. I won’t be able to continue of the prices increase as much as they were saying and there’s no discount codes around. etc I was feeling so optimistic but now feel a bit down. 😞

Same - feeling very deflated after starting this and getting on so well with it. I see a lot of talk about now switching to WeGovy but my understanding is that bad side effects are more common with that, and since I've had so few to date with Mounjaro I feel reluctant to risk that.

Elliebird2 · 14/08/2025 17:33

Looks like I’m only going to be able to be on this for this one pen then or two if I stick at 2.5mg and I get results :( can’t believe this was announced the day I took the plunge. I can afford the prices just now but if they double there’s no way

luvabellawilleatme · 14/08/2025 17:42

Hello, I have just ordered (and been approved!) just before I saw the news about the price increase! I am just trying not to think about that at the moment though, I will see what happens. I have a lot to lose but hoping to join in with all of you!

Haribosweets · 14/08/2025 17:47

I'll join 🙂 I started yesterday with my 1st injection. All ok at mo and couldn't eat all my lunch in one go. (Sandwich and crisps) but I finished couple hours later. I normally would have had it all within minutes and then some chocolate or something sweet.
Not liking the price increases especially as just started. Will have to see what happens.

Thistleton · 14/08/2025 18:33

The news is so disappointing....... I could just about afford it but I'm not sure I can justify it. Really cross with myself for spending the last year prevaricating, why on earth didn't I just crack on with it before now?😡

I need to really make the most of the current pen (my first) and the new one I ordered yesterday. After that, who knows? I've just emailed my provider to ask if they allow pre-ordering, but it sounds as though stocks everywhere are selling out so fast I'm not very hopeful.

thatsalad · 14/08/2025 18:42

I have just ordered my next dose at ASDA and it's the same price as usual so I guess the price increase is not in effect yet

Pollypot25 · 14/08/2025 18:42

Oh no! This is terrible news about the price increase. This just won’t be affordable for me. I was so excited to get going.

1st September the increase comes in to effect.

NeedSleepNow · 14/08/2025 19:01

I don't know if I'll be able to afford the higher price, such a shame as I was feeling really positive about it all. I just wish I'd started earlier and not put it off for so long

Iwasphotoframed · 14/08/2025 19:17

Just booked my next pen if it is my last then that is that but it has been beneficial even if short term. I had planned to spend a year on it and I’m still willing to commit the money I intended to spend but if gets ludicrously priced then I’m not willing to spend that.

Thistleton · 14/08/2025 19:20

It's hard for those of us just starting out, and also terrible for those who are part way through and completely expected to be able to continue. What a terrible blow for everyone who has found the medication life-changing.

Jean74 · 14/08/2025 20:02

I am as gutted as everyone else; it was already going to be a stretch financially and I feel this is unmanageable. I've gone on ASDA and ordered another month's supply so I will have enough for three months at the current price and then I guess see what happens. Like everyone else is saying, wish I had not dilly dallied to start this. I think maybe I might consider changing to Wegovy or just the tablets even though they're not as effective and just try and lose as much weight as I can in next little while. It is a buyer's market and wouldn't be surprised if a new and cheaper competitor comes forth to challenge Mounjaro. I hope so anyway. Apparently drug companies have developed a tablet which is more effective than existing ones but it still needs to go through clinical trials.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 14/08/2025 20:10

Ordered my initial batch with Morrisons but because I ordered a 2 x 2.5 bundle I can’t reorder yet

I’ve ordered a 1x2.5 and 1x 5 bundle with asda. Wonder if they are under the same umbrella and will rumble me 🤣

This stuff keeps unopened for a while doesn’t it?

Might try and order elsewhere aswell but it’s a lot of money to tie up…

Dammit I wish I’d done this a few months ago instead of dilly dallying.
