Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

Well done to everyone on your weight losses. It’s such a good feeling!

AsteriaBuffy · 13/08/2025 12:40

Hi all, yay for all the losses!

Weigh in and jab day today. Bit of a mixed week. On the downside only lost 1.5 lbs over 2 weeks. On the upside lost 2 inches off my waist which is a definite result, and an inch off hips. So a bit weird!

SW 14st 7
CW 14 st 5.5
target - 10st 7 would be great, haven't been that weight for about 25 years.

Pretty sure I haven't put on any muscle, maybe the fat is redistributing 😂but that's ok as I'm used to having a fat arse, the pregnant-looking belly was the thing really bothering me so if that goes down that's amazing.

Suppression was less in week 2 - feeling hungry day 6 and 7, and no side effects at all really. Haven't decided what to do about next dose.

Need to do much more exercise, been taking it very easy as was tired the first week, and have been busy doing more socialising and eating out more than usual in week 2 which hasn't helped obvs.

timestressed · 13/08/2025 12:51

SW 81.2
CW 77.8
W3 is starting tomorrow, and my 3rd Mj jab is tonight. I realised that I can"t have anything fried, the oil which is heated is giving me indigestion. I can have butter or some olive oil on my salad, or indeed tartar steak. That was really the only SE this week. My sugar levels.I test for my T2 are slowly going down and that is great news. I will have blood test in around 10 weeks time, I have high hopes that it will show remission of diabetes. Any weight loss is a bonus for me.

Gingermidget · 13/08/2025 15:54

Hi all! Mind if I join you?

Anyone else swapped their ‘food noise’ for constantly thinking about whether they’re getting enough protein, fibre, water & calories? I’m loving the weight loss but want to make sure I’m nourishing my body. My digestion is all over the place and have had a lot of diarrhoea. I’ve been trying to look after my gut health for the last several months so this side effect is more than a bit annoying. W3,D4 so hoping these side effects will pass soon.

I’m still fiddling about trying to find an app that makes this easy to log. This week I’m trying Lose It for food tracking (like the fact that you can photo, speak or manually add food) and MeAgain for dosage tracking (like the fact that it makes a photo gallery of progress) but would rather have one app that does it all. I have bad memories of MFP and a period in my life that bordered on orthorexia/ED tracking obsessively.

no issues after my first dose apart from feeling a bit bloated and constipated. I’m used to pooping first thing, it’s not happening so I’m eating fresh papaya and bio yog, will try prunes and kiwi and aloe Vera next if no luck.

Plan is 130g protein, 20-40g fibre, 9g saturated fat. Having collagen peptides gives almost 20g of protein so that is an easy way to boost it, if you’re not feeling like eating - can be stirred into a drink or yogurt

I doubt I will lose dramatically this month as I’m taking creatine and lifting heavy and creatine can cause water retention in the muscles when you first use it but my goals are all about gaining strength and losing visceral fat and bloat so if my waist shrinks and my inflammation goes down I will be very happy.

Gingermidget · 13/08/2025 16:39

Can I ask a quick question?

I did the second injection last night and I’m really struggling to eat more than 800 calories in a day even with eating when I’m not hungry (I’m trying to avoid junk food/ processed food).

I’m 5’1 but this still feels too low? Does anyone have any advice?

If I am really low then I drink a large glass of cold semi-skimmed milk. I like cold milk so it's an easy way to get some calcium, calories and an extra bit of protein.

Have you tried a smoothie? There are several recipes which also include oats and yoghurt. DD uses them when her stomach is in knots with anxiety.

This one is not bad either:

We use cow milk and full fat yoghurt though.

That’s a really great shout, thank you. I’d been focusing on water and didn’t even think about drinking calories!

Jab 2 done. Week 1 weigh in and I've lost 6.4lb. happy with that!

How is everyone deciding on their goal weight? For now I've decided on 10 and a half stone but that still makes me 'over weight'.

I have a goal weight in mind of 11st. This just about puts me in the ‘healthy BMI’. I’ve been this weight before, was healthy and in a really good place, and was able to sustain it. Covid changed it all for me and I’ve really struggled ever since. If I do go any lower than 11st it will be to build a buffer of around half a stone.

Tennistote · 13/08/2025 21:46

I was hoping to be an August starter but have had my request turned down by Asda doctor online on account of my diabetes as they felt they couldn’t safely prescribe. Which is fair enough but still feels humiliating. I had really been hoping to get started.

Please try not to feel humiliated, you are trying to improve your health and took a very brave step applying. Could you speak to your diabetes nurse?

Tennistote · 13/08/2025 22:11

Thank you @SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease.Yes I will make an appointment with the surgery and face the dragon. I am really in the shit with my health and life at the moment and I think my desperation is making me feel worse.

timestressed · 13/08/2025 22:48

@TennistoteI also have T2, I had to have bloods done and also see endycronolgyst. It is better to be monitored. I think it is a bit of a postcode lottery what you get offered but my first task was to try to control my sugar levers with diet. I went down to 7.5 but still was bmi 32 and got then sent to endo. It all took over 6 .months from the first time I requested Mj, to when I was prescribed it, half of that time was due to waiting for consultant appointment. In fact my consultant was more eager to prescribe it than the diabetic nurse. I am on Mj, 1 pen of 2.5 and 5 afterwards. They don't prescribe I was told higher dosage. It is mainly for diabetes control, not for weight control, even though weight was considered in my case.
It may be different for you but you can ask all those questions. I remember the nurse mentioning Rybelsus as well but by then I knew it has more side effects.
Don't get discouraged by waiting. It is done in good faith I believe.

TheArtfulCrow · 13/08/2025 23:41

I'm on W2 D5 and have really struggled to eat today. Forced some stuff down me as I needed it, felt unwell. It was the same on day 5 last week too. I've had two pancakes, small protein shake, a Muller rice and a small bowl of chicken curry and rice which nearly ended me 😅

saywhaaaaaat · 14/08/2025 07:36

W4 today and have done my 4th jab. There is still LOADSSSSSSSS left in the pen as well.

Weighed this morning and it had climbed a bit since yesterday but it's been hot and I'm fairly sure it's water retention.

Away again this weekend (campervan ftw) and we'll be eating out, but it's a fairly healthy neck of the woods.

Feeling good, my husband has noticed I've lost weight, and chatting to my therapist she said that it sounded like I was in a good place as well. I feel really good as well, like I'm nowhere near where I want to be yet but I feel like... good. It's really nice.

So as of 4th week jab.
SW: 94.8kg
CW: 88.2kg
TW: 63kg

@Tennistote don't be downhearted. I was turned down initially and someone on another thread advised me to apply to a pharmacy based provider as they are more confident prescribing around other meds. I went to pharmacy2u and they prescribed happily and informed my GP. I also arranged an appointment with my diabetes nurse and she was more than happy to allow me to take it alongside Metformin.

Worth asking a more 'medical based' provider.

Thats a brilliant loss, well done. I’m also here for those feel good feelings. Are you planning on moving up to 5mg or staying in the 2.5mg?

Jean74 · 14/08/2025 08:02

Hello everyone, well done on your onward journey. I've just weighed myself and have lost 3kg in my first week.
SW 102kg, now 99kg, target weight 90kg.
However I have also lost 2 inches off my bust and 1 inch off my hips.
As others have said feeling calmer and clearer due to less thoughts of food. Haven't snacked in evening once, which has always been my major downfall previously! I've ordered my next pen and decided to increase from 2.5 to 5 dose, not sure if that's the right approach or not but as my side effects have been minimal I thought I will try the higher dose and see where it takes me.

sausagesandwiches · 14/08/2025 08:12

Weighed in this morning and will do my 4th jab tonight

-2lb this week for a total of 10lb so far (not sure if I’m confident enough to post start weight etc though as the numbers are big!)

need to order my next pen and I’m going up to 5

I’ve had very minimal side effects and feel that willpower and being on holiday from work is still getting me through at the moment

I am worried about going back to work after the holidays as my office is full of feeders! 🤣

Thank you! I am so pleased!

I'm staying on 2.5mg for as long as I can, my second pen is 2.5mg as well. I don't think for my my appetite has ever been the issue, I definitely have that "hungry brain" thing. So I eat and then it takes a while for my brain to catch up and I end up overeating. That and emotional/habits.

@Jean74 @sausagesandwiches that's amazing! Well done guys!

I'm worried about being back at work for that reason too @sausagesandwiches there's always a table full of cakes and sweets and I'm hoping I can resist them easily. They're right next to the photocopier and I always ended up eating something everytime I picked up my printing!

reluctantbrit · 14/08/2025 09:52

It's A-Level results day and there will be cake at home. But that's ok as it's a really special occassion and we had a difficult time as a family as DD has AuADHD and her struggles are a big part of my weight gain.

I had a sneak weight in yesterday, my normal day is Fridays when I do the next jab and I lost 5kg in total in 3 weeks. I definitely see some differences in my body.
Last jab with 2.5mg, I opted to increase to 5mg from next week as I feel the hunger towards the end of my week.

abitscaredarentI · 14/08/2025 10:48

W4d2, it's the first week where there was no loss, but I do admit I went calories high, too many celebrations in a short time.
I'm trying not to let myself be distraught, ups and downs happen but we're in it for the long run!
Plus, if I had done that before the treatment I'd have fated much much worse than that, so keeping the positivism!

Next pen is a 5mg, I might move up a bit (3.75?). I have decent depression with 2.5, and I want to keep feeling hungry when I am and enjoy meals out, but i need help with control (and enjoying the meals maybe too much).
Should i add a bit of resistance training too? Protein?

mounjaring · 14/08/2025 11:06

Ok so week 1 done and I'm 5lb down

ive had an infection this week and been in Antibiotics, I suspect I've retained a bit because of this, so happy with 5lb

Elliebird2 · 14/08/2025 11:48

Can I please join?
My first pen arrives in the next hour, I have 3 stone to lose. I’m so nervous to take it!! worried about side effects
