Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

Anyone else swapped their ‘food noise’ for constantly thinking about whether they’re getting enough protein, fibre, water & calories? I’m loving the weight loss but want to make sure I’m nourishing my body. My digestion is all over the place and have had a lot of diarrhoea. I’ve been trying to look after my gut health for the last several months so this side effect is more than a bit annoying. W3,D4 so hoping these side effects will pass soon.

Yes, it’s my newest obsession… but in a way I’m hoping it’s part of retraining my body and mind.

I sit and plan the next day or two’s food on MFP and then simply stick to that. Before I would have deviated but so far I seem quite content this way (W3D1).

NeedSleepNow · 12/08/2025 14:31

@KickAss25 I've been having the opposite problem and am now struggling with constipation.

I'm worrying a lot about my protein intake as I know I'm not having anywhere near enough and have seen so many posts about needing a lot of protein. How much protein are people aiming to have each day?

Gettingonwithgettingon · 12/08/2025 14:36

I'm doing my week 3 jab this evening - and am half a stone down! I am really pleased about it, and about how smooth it has been so far (touch wood!). I am amazed by how it's changed my food thinking. There is a packet of my very favourite sweets (Jelly Tots - I know, apparently I'm a toddler!) in the cupboard and it's been there for about a week. Before I would 100% have eaten the whole big packet the day they were bought, felt awful and guilty about it, probably had to sneakily buy more so no one, including DH, knew I had eaten all of the treats all to myself in one go. Now I keep opening that cupboard, thinking 'oh we have Jelly Tots - maybe I'll have some later' and then closing the cupboard and forgetting about them. I would never have previously been able to forget about having something like that in the house - I would have been thinking about them constantly and incessantly until I gave into temptation and ate them in a sitting. It is such a relief to not feel that currently.

Gettingonwithgettingon · 12/08/2025 14:42

I was wondering what others would do about this:

I'm going on holiday Sat-Thurs in a couple of weeks. The Tues of that week is when I'd normally take jab 5, but I really don't want to take the Mounjaro pen away with me. Reading the instructions, I think my options are either to take dose 4 a day early, and then take dose 5 three days early (to stick to the 72 hours between doses rule on the insert), or to take dose 4 as normal and then take dose three days late. I'm leaning towards the latter - any thoughts, please?

I did struggle a bit with mild constipation a couple of weeks ago. Reluctant to take laxatives because of protecting gut biome so took prunes & some magnesium supplements and then had diarrhoea so trying to find my balance!
Re protein intake, I think someone already mentioned the recent Zoe podcast which is good. Advice seems to be 1g of protein per your weight in kg. (1.2g for peri & menopausal women). Where I’ve found advice differs is whether that’s your current weight or your healthy weight in kg. I’m choosing to interpret it as my healthy weight which means I’m aiming for about 80g of protein rather than 95g of protein which is a more manageable goal. Hope that helps a bit.

I’m in a similar situation & I’ve chosen to take 1st dose a day later just before going on holiday, then I will miss a dose whilst away, taking my 2nd dose as soon as I’m back 5 days later. As I’m not going up doses I’ve figured worse that can happen is that I will have to rely on will power for a few days and I might have to put up with side effects for a bit longer when I come back. Might be worth popping questions to your pharmacy for proper reassurance.

Is everyone planning to extract the 5th dose? I’ve just watched a YouTube tutorial and it looks fairly straightforward so I’ve just ordered some syringes.

W1D2 and a bit headachy today but not unexpected I guess.

No, cba messing with it. Just getting next pen.

I've been wondering about doing this as I've read quite a lot about it. I'll be doing my 4th jab on Friday this week so need to either order my next pen ready for the following week or order some syringes and attempt to extract the extra for the 5th dose. I haven't decided what to do yet

jan2310 · 12/08/2025 17:25

I did my W3 jab today, a day early, as I’m going away for a few days next week and I’d rather take my 4th jab before I go rather than while I’m away. So far no side affects today which feels positive and not feeling hungry at all although I’m making myself eat normally, just smaller portions. I haven’t weighed myself today though, I’m going to wait until tomorrow, but I don’t think I’ve lost much this week although I ate less than the first week as I was out less often.

im undecided about whether to go up to 5 for my next pen. I’m a bit worried about the side effects having read some other threads and I don’t want to not be able to eat much. I want to lose weight by training myself to eat less and more healthily, not by hardly eating at all.

Rorpethy · 12/08/2025 17:53

When I was taking mounjaro last year I took the 5th dose as I planned to stay on 2.5 for another month. I just forced the pen to twist until 1, exactly the same as the 4 other times. Very easy and definitely worth a try if you're staying on 2.5 as if it doesn't work, you can just move on to your next pen instead.

No. I can't be bothered mucking about with it and I'm not sure it would be worth the risk. Just ordered another pen.

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 12/08/2025 19:26

I’m not attempting to extract the extra either. I have my check up appointment booked for Monday 25th and will get new pen then. Next decision is whether to stay on 2.5ml, I think if I’m still feeling as I am now I will.

Bluefloor · 12/08/2025 22:03

Yeah I’m going to try and get the extra. Seems easy enough to use needles to extract it out, and enough info out there on getting the right dose. I wasn’t going to but I can’t waste it knowing the cost.

I went out for the day today, and could only eat half a panini at lunch. Later in the day we stopped by a bakery for some cakes, I just wasn’t bothered to get anything for myself. It’s such a strange feeling, but very enjoyable to not have that internal battle with myself. My mind feels at ease.

Rorpethy · 13/08/2025 07:17

Jab 2 done. Week 1 weigh in and I've lost 6.4lb. happy with that!

How is everyone deciding on their goal weight? For now I've decided on 10 and a half stone but that still makes me 'over weight'.

jan2310 · 13/08/2025 07:22

I’m now on jab 3 and have just done my second weigh in. I’ve lost 3.3kg/just over 7lb in 2 weeks. I’m very happy with that as the side effects have been bearable and I feel like I’ve been eating and drinking normally, just less than usual. And no snacks.

I feel very positive today about this journey but still undecided about whether to go up to 5mg.

NeedSleepNow · 13/08/2025 08:46

Well done @Rorpethy and @jan2310 those are great losses.

I've set my goal weight at 10st 7lb too @Rorpethy . Only because that's what I got to 15 years ago when I was following weight watchers and I felt comfortable at that weight. I may get to that and want to keep going or I might be happy before I get there. I've had two more children since then so my shape is likely to be very different to 15 years ago even if I got to the same weight so I'm not too sure when I'll want to stop losing but that seemed a reasonable aim for now.

justjuggling · 13/08/2025 09:37

Morning all! Wednesday is my weigh and jab day. This week I have lost 9lbs. NINE! Cannot believe it. So that’s 13 in 2 weeks. So chuffed with that but know it’ll slow down over the coming weeks.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Ambernectarine22 · 13/08/2025 09:44

Another newbie here. I’ve read the whole thread and so many comments resonate with me. I’m only on W1D6 of Mounjaro, but it’s been miraculous so far.

I know it’s expensive, but I’m actually thinking it will save me money as I’m not impulse-buying food. I used to find myself popping into the supermarket frequently ‘for a treat’ and coming out with a bag full of stuff.

Thanks, everyone for sharing your experiences!

SweetDreamsAreMadeOfCheese87 · 13/08/2025 10:16

Fab losses @Rorpethy & @jan2310
I too am thinking 10 and a half stone. I was that pre children 18 years ago 😂 but I need to keep a bit of chub on my cheeks because it helps with the fine lines!!
I walk lots and I’m hoping that’ll be enough exercise for me to be honest, I have a physical part time job. I wish I had the energy and time for gym etc 😂😂

Rorpethy · 13/08/2025 10:23

@SweetDreamsAreMadeOfCheese87 I'm not going to the gym either as I also have a very physical job and walk everywhere. I do at least 10k steps before/after work. I'm not allowed my phone/watch with me during work hours so can't track those steps but I'm on my feet/running around all day at work. I do want to start some weight training at some point though. I have a prolapse though so I'm not sure where that leaves me.

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 13/08/2025 10:27

Great progress everyone!

I too am aiming for 10st 7lbs. It leaves me just in the overweight category so might try to get down to 10st 3lbs to have a bit of wiggle room but in all honesty that’s a long way away for me just now. Next aim is for my weight to start with a 14!

Iwasphotoframed · 13/08/2025 10:31

I weighed myself today. I was on holidays the week before I started so I was falsely high weight for my first weigh in but it had me down 3.2kg. I’m very happy with that as a starting point. Jab day tomorrow.

SweetDreamsAreMadeOfCheese87 · 13/08/2025 10:45

@Rorpethy prolapses suck! My 4th child lovingly gave me mine 😂😂 never thought of that! I am mostly ok, ‘mild’ they say!
well done @Iwasphotoframed!!
@SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease new stone zones make all the difference to motivation don’t they! Good luck all ❤️
