Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

Does anyone else here not eat breakfast anyway?

I've always fasted til lunch, many reasons, too busy with kids, not hungry til lunch and having IBS if I eat I need to be sure I have a loo to hand and do have worked out over time and with a commute it's best to forgo breakfast TMI!)

I never used to have breakfast before but I have been since starting monjouro. I find at the moment I'm often out at lunch time so I'm better off having a decent breakfast and missing lunch if I have to. I'm having either wholemeal toast, avocado and scrambled egg or greek yoghurt, strawberries and m&s sugar & grain free granola.

Pumpernickelbrakes · 11/08/2025 17:53

@saywhaaaaaat amazing progress well done!
@mounjaring i quite often miss breakfast but thinking will start when in Mounjaro mode.

thanks for the welcome and hello to all new people.

Am getting my first month supply from chemist in a couple of hours.

just seen endocrinologist and he did a body scan. Yikes.

I need to be on 1400 calories with protein and veg focus.

what’s a good food tracking app? preferably not too complicated and allows for home cooking.

NeedSleepNow · 11/08/2025 18:11

I need a good food tracking app too @Pumpernickelbrakes . I've used MyFitnessPal in the past but now my phone is too old and incompatible with it according to the app store!

mounjaring · 11/08/2025 18:13

I am really loving the Team HR app, it is £7.99 a month but it's helping me understand the nutritional side of things a bit better, I'd love to hear though if there are other alternatives

mounjaring · 11/08/2025 18:13

RH not HR!

Rahgh · 11/08/2025 18:25

Hello! 👋 I’ve just taken my first dose. Fingers crossed! I’ve got about 10st to lose so in it for the long haul!

Pollypot25 · 11/08/2025 18:31

Well done @saywhaaaaaat your early success is inspiring! Thank you for starting the support thread. It is really nice to have company on this journey.

I got brave and gave myself my first jab this afternoon. Felt very nervous (mainly after reading through the list of potential side effects but then all drugs have a huge list, don’t they!) but actually I barely felt the needle and only a mild sting. That was a couple of hours ago now. I feel fine and just a slightly pink area around the injection site, but barely visible.

W1 D1:

SW: 80.6kg (12 stone 10 lb)
GW: 57kg (8 stone 13 lb)

Fingers crossed for all!

reluctantbrit · 11/08/2025 18:37

I always have breakfast but I have low blood pressure and need the energy to function.

I can go the odd hour of I am up before everybody else but I am a firm 3 main meals a day person.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 11/08/2025 19:35

W1D2

Well I am surprised at just how quickly this has kicked in!
I’ve eaten less than 800 calories today which is not ideal (or maybe it is! lol) with no urge to snack whatsoever!

Even picked up a kfc with DS earlier and had no interest in ordering for myself (or stealing half of his).

I am shocked I tell thee!

Pollypot25 · 11/08/2025 19:36

Someone recommended Dr Emma Anders’ YouTube channel earlier in the thread - thank you to that person!

I’m sharing a useful video I’ve just watched:

DandelionPockets · 11/08/2025 19:59

On W3D2 now and definitely don't have the mega suppression of the first two weeks. It's a good thing for me as I was finding it hard to eat anything and to even drink water. Feeling healthier for sure.

Lemon1111 · 11/08/2025 20:07

@Pollypot25 thanks that was really useful I think I will stay on 2.5 for a few months and see how I go, is bc anyone else planning this?

Glad you found it helpful too @Lemon1111

I’m going to play it by ear. I’ll aim to stay on a low dose if it’s effective. I won’t automatically increase after 4 weeks.

I don’t have any definite plan but I will stay on 2.5 for as long as possible.

I'm on W3 D3 at the moment and am going to stick with 2.5 for my next pen. I was hoping to stick with this dose for as long as possible but will probably move up after the next pen. W1 I felt a lot of suppression but now in wk 3 I'm noticeably hungrier and have had a few days where I've snacked between meals so expect I will need to move up a dose sooner rather than later.

Hellenicnim · 11/08/2025 22:24

I never eat breakfast when not dieting but do find it helps me stick to less snacking I've been having high fibre options like overnight oats or weetabix or a protein bagel thin. When I need to drop calories as my TDEE comes down I might drop breakfast and do a 16:8 intermittent fast.

Lifeisforliving2025 · 12/08/2025 04:08

Started yesterday at 224.6lbs. I ate 1467 calories - 89.4 protein and 23.7 fibre. Wee bit insomnia and slight headache.

Second time on MJ. This time I have taken advice from a nutritionalist as I want to curb my emotional eating too. Want to break the habit of yo yo dieting for good.

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 12/08/2025 07:14

W3 D1 - weigh in and jab day.
SW 15st 12lbs
CW 15st 4.25lbs

2.75lbs off this morning taking me to 7.75lbs in two weeks or 3.5kg. Long term I would be elated with 7lbs a month.

Having my protein drink, electrolytes and then my jab.

Warmcupoftea · 12/08/2025 07:53

@Pumpernickelbrakes and @NeedSleepNow I currently trying the free version of Chronometer to log calories at the mo. It’s the best one I’ve found so far but you do have to put up with the adds. I like that it gives you a nutritional brake down as I had no Idea that my iron intake was so low.

I did my weight and measurement today and glad to find I have lost 3 cm off my waist so far. With the mind clarity that mounjaro gives me, I’ve realised that my waist size is the benchmark that matters the most to me. I’ve been an ‘apple’ for too long!

SweetDreamsAreMadeOfCheese87 · 12/08/2025 09:51

First weigh in… I am shocked!
I am bearing in mind I was 4lb heavier because I’d not long been on an AI holiday.. And the calorie deficit, it’ll slow down now but what a boost ❤️

How long did it take after your first dose until you started to feel appetite supression?

It was a couple of days for me. I was wondering if it was working or if it was just better willpower as I'd spent so much money on the jab!!! By day 3 I could tell the difference.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 12/08/2025 11:15

@SweetDreamsAreMadeOfCheese87 wow that’s amazing 🤩

NeedSleepNow · 12/08/2025 11:44

That's an amazing loss @SweetDreamsAreMadeOfCheese87

Thanks for the app recommendation @Warmcupoftea i'll take a look at that one. I haven't taken any measurements yet, I've only been tracking my weight, I think I should probably start tracking inch loss aswell.

@Tiredearlyriser I noticed some suppression the morning after my first jab and felt fuller a lot quicker. The biggest thing for me was a lack of interest in snacking, for example I used to always buy some sweets when I went into the shop or petrol station but now I have zero interest in buying anything like that.

KickAss25 · 12/08/2025 14:22

Anyone else swapped their ‘food noise’ for constantly thinking about whether they’re getting enough protein, fibre, water & calories? I’m loving the weight loss but want to make sure I’m nourishing my body. My digestion is all over the place and have had a lot of diarrhoea. I’ve been trying to look after my gut health for the last several months so this side effect is more than a bit annoying. W3,D4 so hoping these side effects will pass soon.
