August 25 Starters

Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

@sausagesandwiches I too have opted to not take medication.

This week has been weirdly productive. Maybe what other people describe as good noise can also just be brain noise - it’s like there’s a parallel calmness between my thoughts and my relationship with food this week.

Long may it last…!

Good evening all, I’m slightly late to the August party, but I’d like to join in please.
I’m 46, 5ft 11 and have high blood pressure and cholesterol. I feel like I’m in the wrong body at the moment, I was always the “skinny kid” but the lbs have crept up on me over the last 5 years and I’m now starting out with Perimenopause symptoms too.
Also have a sliding hiatus hernia, which is causing me no end of bother so I’m determined to try and get healthier, fitter and drop these lbs!

Had my first jab yesterday evening. No side effects, yet! Wishing everyone the best of luck on this journey.

First wegovy jab a few hours ago! Here we go.... x

Pumpernickelbrakes · 10/08/2025 21:02

Hello, I’d like to join. I’m 54, British but live abroad. Six hour time difference so I might be posting at weird times.
I am seeing an endocrinologist tomorrow to get my 1st prescription for Mounjaro.

I have piled on about sixty pounds since 2020. Menopause, Hashimotos (thyroid disorder), stress, inflammation. I used to exercise loads and do calisthenics, yoga and aerial training. I was fit AF and a muscly size 10. Then the pandemic came and I started drinking wine every day and not exercising. Now I’m size 16 and apple shaped and aching joints.

I’ve always eaten really healthy home made food and not snacked. But my portions are way too big. Over the years I’ve done low carb, intermittent fasting, weight watchers etc etc and every time I take off 20lb I put it back on plus ten more.

I am hoping for increased satiety, making portion sizes small an easy thing to manage, and for a decrease in inflammation and pain.

Have been reading and reading. Not just this thread but threads from MN WLI users 3,6, 12 months ago to get an idea of how it might go and it’s really encouraging.

also listening to Fat Science pod and browsing Reddit

Good luck achieving your dreams and goals!

SW 13 and a half stone, 193 lb.
GW Under ten stone. 140lb.

Bluefloor · 10/08/2025 21:37

Felt exhausted this afternoon, had to lay on the sofa and have barely eaten all day. Hope I have more energy tomorrow.

PawsandWhiskers · 10/08/2025 21:49

Hello… haven’t had time to read the whole thread but wanted to post for accountability.

Been thinking of trying Mounjaro for a long time, bit the bullet in Friday and ordered some and looking at timescales on the website thought it wouldn’t arrive until the end of this week. But, it ended up arriving yesterday so I jabbed myself last night.

As it all has happened a bit quickly in the end I haven’t thought out meals properly at all. But I’ve drunk loads of water today and headed to bed early to stop my evening snacking… so it’s a start…

RalphtheMouth · 10/08/2025 21:49

First jab done! Weigh ins will be Monday morning.

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 10/08/2025 22:40

Welcome new jabbers, I definitely found plucking up the courage to start the hardest part so far.

W2 D6 here and oddly high suppression today - had to really force down a snack to get over 1000kcal which hasn’t been like me. Still feeling energised and motivated though.

Daftmum47 · 10/08/2025 22:55

W1D6

I’d usually have one or two glasses of wine in the evening, though planning to more or less avoid alcohol while on Mounjaro.

I bought a small miniature bottle of wine for a recipe, and curiosity / old habits got the better of me, so I opened it. (Day 6 of the first, lowest-dose jab is probably the safest time, I reasoned.)

I’m about 100ml in of the 187ml and I’m not even sure I’ll finish it! 🙀

Mounjarryo · 11/08/2025 08:23

Hiya, can I join please? I did actually try MJ in Jan of this year, but had horrible side effects so didnt take anymore. Have been working hard to sort my eating habits out and become more active, and have lost 10kg but want to try again alongside my new habits to see if it'll help me for the first time in my life not be obese! My BMI is now 30.5 so looking to lose 15kg or so. Placed order this morning with Pharamcy2U so not sure when it'll arrive!

Can I ask- i have 2 weeks off from next week and it seems logical to me to start then to get used to it whilst not working; but worried ill feel like crap for my precious time off with DD (not worried about the food aspect). Any advice?

Allthat · 11/08/2025 08:27

Hi hope to join in I just took my 2nd dose yesterday, only a 1lb loss on W1 but I do feel great, more energy and motivation and no negative side effects. Has anyone else found their mind so much clearer? I'm really surprised how much thinking was taken up with food and feeding family.

I don’t know whether my approach would work for you but I’m going really slowly with it (in the hope that I avoid bad SE) by starting very low - a third of the starter dose last Monday, going to do slightly more today and see how things go.

Not cost effective and many people disapprove of tinkering with the doses but for me I need either to do it this way or not do it at all - I have a debilitating fear of vomiting.

Happy to report that I had almost nothing by way of SE last week but much less food noise and a reduced appetite. It may be the placebo effect but it’s working for me.

I hope you have a better experience this time, good luck!

Hey everybody! Lovely to meet you all!

So, I'm w3d5 and I'm down 5.9kg total since I started which is 13lbs in old money. A lot of that would be water weight for sure, but I am really starting to notice it when I look in the mirror. I even had a takeaway curry for my mother-in-law's birthday last night.

I'm really happy so far and it's really giving me the brain space I was after. I'm doing therapy at the moment as well, which tbh I haven't told the therapist I'm using a GLP-1... which probably ISN'T ideal, but while they are kind of linked... I am thinking I'm going to keep them seperate for now. Treating the brain and body seperately so to speak.

Well done @saywhaaaaaat, that’s an awesome loss.
Are you weighing frequently or weekly etc? I have been having a peek on the scales but sticking to Tuesday as my weigh in day.

justjuggling · 11/08/2025 09:34

Good morning everyone and hello to new jabbers.

I’m doing ok. Have no appetite whatsoever so probably eating less than I should be. Went out for breakfast on Saturday and could only eat half my bacon bap which is unheard of!!

Wishing everyone a great week. Looking forward to reading about the losses! 🙂

Shiny88 · 11/08/2025 10:16

Morning all, tonight is jab night. first week hasn’t been to bad, haven’t had many side affects which is nice, lost 4lb this week and not having food noise has been lovely.
it’s been a real test this week as I’m a massive comfort eater, bored I eat, sad I eat, stressed I eat, happy I eat. And my brother was admitted to hospital with a pulmonary embolism but I haven’t reach for food as a comfort at all. So that’s a massive win!

Hope everyone else is doing well

Shiny88 · 11/08/2025 10:16

@saywhaaaaaatwow that’s amazing fair play to you!!

Booksandcheese · 11/08/2025 10:27

SW 12st
CW 11st 6lb
Just taken my second jab. Can't believe how much I've lost. While I know this will slow down its a lovely bit of motivation. Ive not really had any side effects so im hoping that will continue to be the case.

Iwasphotoframed · 11/08/2025 10:33

@saywhaaaaaat that is incredible I’m so happy for you and to hear loses like that is very encouraging.

SweetDreamsAreMadeOfCheese87 · 11/08/2025 12:35

I’m w1d6 today and feeling a bit snackish 😂😂 but I will be strong! Didnt realise it was lunch time though so best go get something in a mo! Also potty training 2yo so could be the boredom! I’m feeling good in myself and looking forward to weighing (not jabbing) tomorrow 🤞🏻

iloveredwine · 11/08/2025 13:22

Just done 3rd jab. No side effects from the last one and felt hungry quite a bit but once eaten I was really full. Only lost 1lb this week but 5 last week. Onwards and upward

Daftmum47 · 11/08/2025 13:55

Jab2 tonight.

I haven’t actually had any fall off in suppression. Just about to have my first meal of the day at 2pm.

My scales are too shonky to know for sure how much I’ve lost. At least 4lbs. (I quite like the fact that the scales are unreliable, bc the. I can’t obsess about numbers, and don’t get depressed if it looks like I’ve only lost a little / regained.

GertieLawrence · 11/08/2025 16:40

Hi all, did my second jab yesterday. Lost around 4 pounds I think, which I’m happy with - have to take it steady due to chronic fatigue, don’t want to decrease calories too drastically (although I’m not actually counting them).

No negative side effects at all, other than being thirsty at times. Drinking plenty of tap water.

I just confirmed a new order but I’m sticking at 2.5mg and will see how that goes. I’m hoping if I start to wane a bit I’ll be motivated to stick at it for the cost alone!

Things I’m eating - breakfast is a small bowl of special k red berries and if I have them in, fresh raspberries or strawberries. Lunch today was a wholemeal wrap with mozzarella tomato and basil, with salad in it. Dinner something like chicken breast done in the air fryer with salad or green veg, haven’t decided yet about tonight but don’t want much after the wrap. Not really snacking outside of this, but if I do I’m having an apple (first time in yonks) or the occasional Activia yoghurt.

TheArtfulCrow · 11/08/2025 17:13

W2 D3 here and feeling pretty rough. Finding it hard to eat much at all. Made an omelette this morning and barely ate a third so had a protein shake as I didn't feel well. Lunch was an apple and I even struggled with that. Making chicken for dinner but don't know what I want with it.

mounjaring · 11/08/2025 17:17

Does anyone else here not eat breakfast anyway?

I've always fasted til lunch, many reasons, too busy with kids, not hungry til lunch and having IBS if I eat I need to be sure I have a loo to hand and do have worked out over time and with a commute it's best to forgo breakfast TMI!)
