Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

Weigh in and second jab for me today.
SW: 99.7kg / 15 St, 9llbs
CW: 97.9kg / 15 St, 5 llbs.

So 4llbs, almost 2kg off. I'm happy enough with that, as I didn't really feel a huge amount of suppression most in the first week. There's a couple of times I felt a bit full after a fruit salad with some yoghurt, which wouldn't have happened before... so the MJ was doing something. But I was still feeling hungry on and off, I just ignored the hunger pangs though, which maybe I wouldn't have been able to do before. 🤷‍♀️

This morning I had my second jab and I immediately noticed my tummy a little unsettled..after about 15/20 mins I was in the loo with the runs and was back and forth a few times this afternoon. It appears to have settled now though, nothing since before 4pm ish. I had very little symptoms last week, so that was a noticeable difference today. I'm hoping I feel a bit more suppression this time.

I think I saw someone mentioned that MJ doses peak in your system at around 3 weeks... though I don't know where I saw it. Has anyone else heard this? There was some sort of chart or website for different peaks?

@SweetpeaM33 I haven't heard that but mounjaro has a half life of 5 days (which means after 5 days half the drug is used up) and takes 30 days to leave your system entirely which means when you take dose 2 some of dose 1 is still there and dose 3 some of dose 1 and 2 are still there 3 weeks is when you take dose 4 (because dose 1 is technically on day 0 if you see what i mean) which is probably about when dose 1 is just about to leave your system and at that point if you stay on it you are steadily replacing the dosage so it make sense that would be the maximum or peak? Until you go up a dosage that is and then the cycle begins again.

Today is W1 D4 for me. I had an event with friends yesterday. I suspect maybe some of them are doing jabs too as they were not eating much either and look decidedly slimmer.

I had a couple of glasses of wine but I wasn’t craving it and I was not really enticed much by the food so I had a small amount. I had a small dessert too but once I was finished I had no appetite at all for the evening so along with a small amount of overnight oats for breakfast that was all I had. I had a massive amount of alcohol induced anxiety (what we in Ireland call the fear) last night so I’m planning to cut out alcohol from now for a bit as that was a special occasion and I want to enjoy this period where I am not having cravings for anything.

For me I’ve experienced significant dimming of food noise and appetite suppression from the 2.5 dose. Normally I’d be thinking about the food and extra portions all day.

The nausea was not there all day which was fab and I feel fine today.

DH and I are hoping the gym tomorrow. I’ve been a member for years but I’ve developed a lot of injuries due to a condition I have so now armed with a new plan I’m going to be back to activity which I’m really looking forward too.

Well, injected Thursday, woke up this morning and I'm 5lb lighter

feeling quite hopeful that this time I might actually have this battle won

I am thinking more positively this time around, I don't see the Mounjaro as a cheat, it's just a way to get the stones off, and whilst I'm doing that I can retrain myself to cut the emotional eating

Maplebean · 10/08/2025 12:07

Unfortunately I’m having to bow out.

My fatigue has been triggered by the injection so much so that I’ve had several days where I’ve felt very unwell this week and have been bed bound. I also didn’t lose that much weight as I think my metabolism is the problem and I need to move more.

im already feeling better as it leaves my system.

Good luck all!

So sad to hear this. Fatigue is actually the side effect I wear the most but while I do have some, it's still under control.

Good luck for the future.

This - It's a tool to re-learn and helps to make changes.

When I did WeightWatchers I still had the snack cravings but I didn't have the stress I have now so it was doable.

Now I hope to have the time to work on my stress while loosing weight as it takes away the emotional eating.

Good you’re doing what’s right for you at the moment. You will already have learned so much about high protein, high fibre, high water intake to use as tools moving forward. Good luck!

Sorry to hear your experiences @saywhaaaaaat that sounds really rough. I hope you feel better in the coming days as the medication drops from your system.

Followthesunshine · 10/08/2025 13:06

First injection today. I've been up and down between gaining 3 stone and losing 3 stone for years and now I'm in my 40's I am gaining even more. I know this isn't a cure for my issues with food but I'm hoping it will provide the support I need to finally deal with them.

saywhaaaaaat · 10/08/2025 13:54

So sorry to hear that @Maplebean but glad that you are able to know your body well enough to make that call. ❤️

I’m day 3/4 of week 3. Just had a trip away and ate more than I had planned but I walked in excess of 20k steps each day. It’s mostly eating out with kids and them not finishing food. I’m fairly sure I’ve still lost though.

I did have a few nsv though. I tried ok jeans in urban outfitters (granted I’m not 14 lol) and they fit! But I didn’t buy as I know that I can find better ones. I did treat myself to the all saints leather jacket I’ve listed after for years because I could actually get it on. I also bought myself a dress for my birthday this month. Hoping that the weight will continue to drop but I’ll be able to pass on the dress via Vinted. The jacket should be ok though as I’m quite “booby” so will always require a larger size on top anyway.

i definitely feel more confident though. Could be placebo though.

There’s a mild sting where I jabbed in my thigh - anyone else have this?

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 10/08/2025 14:12

Hope you feel better soon @Maplebean, sounds like a sensible decision.

@saywhaaaaaatcongratulations on your new purchase, I had an Allsaints leather jacket I got too big for many years ago, it was a thing of beauty!

I have only jabbed my stomach so far and no discomfort.

NeedSleepNow · 10/08/2025 14:28

Sorry to hear you've been feeling so unwell from it @Maplebean . I hope you start to feel better soon once the meds leave your system.

I'm now on week 3 day 2. On the whole I'm feeling very positive about things. I'm eating healthily and haven't snacked much, I've had the odd day where I've been out with the kids and had an ice cream or a piece of cake but other than that I've stuck to 3 small healthy meals a day. I need to up my protein intake though as I think I'm not getting enough. I've had bad headaches this week, might be my hormones though rather than the jabs causing that.

TheArtfulCrow · 10/08/2025 15:20

W2 D2 for me. Feeling quite hungry today. Hoping the suppression comes back, I have very little at the moment. Going up to the 5mg when its time.

RoseHedgehogs · 10/08/2025 15:48

Just joining in as I’ve had my first dose today, hoping this is the answer for me to change my relationship with food.
wishing everyone luck too and low side affects

Daftmum47 · 10/08/2025 16:21

Welcome @RoseHedgehogs

W1D6

We’ve been away for the weekend so mealtimes etc have been disjointed but I don’t think I’ve been too bad. Today I’ve had salmon and one poached egg, and half a tin of apricots, and not particularly hungry. That seems impressive suppression for Day 6! More thirsty but I’ve been busy in the garden since getting back home.

Next jab tomorrow night. My knees feel a bit sore, but that’s all. In fact I’m feeling a little less ADHD this week.

Rorpethy · 10/08/2025 17:27

@Daftmum47 my knees are really hurting too. I've found the busier day I've had, the more they hurt.

IgnoranceIsStrength · 10/08/2025 17:55

One full week for me and lost 3.4 kg. Really making an effort to eat only small healthy portions of food as not bothered about eating but it helps to start getting the positive food relationship. No real side effects either so feeling very positive

That is fantastic well done

Iwasphotoframed · 10/08/2025 18:12

I did my first exercise today and it felt great. I feel full of energy which is really nice but my joints have been causing me hassle for a while and I am still feeling it. I’ve heard Mounjaro can reduce inflammation so I’ve been secretly hoping.

sausagesandwiches · 10/08/2025 18:19

@Daftmum47

i am also noticing a positive impact on my adhd which I have always chosen not to take medication for

I feel a sense of calm which is weird
