Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

Oh I've just seen it's this weekend.. in that case less of an issue

I think it depends on the person @Sausagedogsarethewurst. For me I had a little bit of nausea after eating for the first couple of days (I did actually worry I was pregnant @AsteriaBuffyas I was late as well!) and I was more tired than usual but I know others have had it worse.
i think if you suffer at all from constipation when you travel (I do lol) I wouldn't do it.

Yeah, my digestive system always tends to go on strike for the first couple of days of a holiday so perhaps best not to tempt fate in that department! 🙈

My px has been approved and dispatched - I was thinking of waiting til after the weekend (child-free trip away with dh) but am also keen to get started… those of you who have recently started, how likely am I to jeopardise the w/e if do the first jab tomorrow/wed?

Depends what you're doing - if it's likely to involve lots of eating and drinking then you'd probably be best waiting as overindulgence could lead to some digestive discomfort! I found it made me tired as well but only on and off.

timestressed · 04/08/2025 18:09

I know now that the only negative side so far is my bowels reacting to cream and cheese. Maybe I am mildly intolerant to them and Mj heightened this reaction? Hard to say. I know I will stay away from all cow's diary products for now. I can feel that I am more serene than I feel usually. That is very scooting experience. It feels as if my brain is not engaged in overreactions any more. In regards to my habits, and that is something I promised to myself I am going to work on:
1/ I am carrying on with salad before meals. Easy to do in the Summer.
2/ I should introduce breakfast, I think I will use some protein powder.
3/ Only decaf coffee as caffeinated one it raises my blood glucose

iloveredwine · 04/08/2025 18:22

Just did my 2nd jab. Feeling quite nauseous. I don’t know if it’s imaginary but can’t face any food at all.

reluctantbrit · 04/08/2025 18:46

Maplebean · 03/08/2025 22:06

I felt ok initially. I had it about 6pm but now feeling pretty sick and drinking lots water.

Hope yours goes down easier!

I think I won’t drink again on this.

How are you feeling today?

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 04/08/2025 19:04

Mind if I join you guys? We had my first jab last Tuesday (29/7) and have my first weigh in and second jab tomorrow.

Felt fine this week, light headache on day 1 but passed swiftly. Calorie counting but eating and just looking for the break from ‘food noise’ to help me along - haven’t wanted to eat junk once this week which in itself is a miracle!

I have 5.5st to lose so aiming for steady to re program my body.

IgnoranceIsStrength · 04/08/2025 20:17

Joining as started on Sunday and looking for that mutual support you only get on this site

How are you feeling today?

Honestly- rubbish!

Ive felt weak and exhausted all day. Sweating a lot. Had a brief period of it last week but this was all day. Thought it was low blood sugar maybe. But my appetite suppression hasn’t really been particularly strong either so but defeated.

I have a young child so if this is my side effect I won’t last as I need energy for her.

Shiny88 · 04/08/2025 20:29

Hey can I join?
once I’m in bed I’m going to have a read through.
Iv just taken my first 2.5mg this evening well approx 2 hours ago and for some reason I feel really anxious about it.
im worried il have a bad reaction and im not talking sickness or 💩.
how soon after taking the jab did anyone get side affects if they had any at all?

Lizziebennett1 · 04/08/2025 21:02

Just done my first jab 10 minutes ago. Did it in my thigh as I’d read you get less side effects, but that may be nonsense!

I had some mild side effects the next morning (after having my first jab at around 6pm). I was really nervous when I went to bed that evening but it was all fine, I felt achey and cold the next day but nothing too bad. Try not to worry, hopefully you'll get a good night's sleep and not have any side effects.

I’m glad you’ve not experienced really bad side affects.
it’s the un known I think. Iv told my partner to poke me in the night to make sure I’m alright 😅.

Haha know what you mean, I was really freaked out, I think because it was a jab rather than a pill. But it was fine - I think most of the early side effect feelings were due to jitters. The 'real' side effects prob not till the next day.

Hey,

My second jab is tomorrow and I have 5 stone to lose! Good luck, we can do this!

Lou16777 · 05/08/2025 06:51

Due my 2nd jab tomorrow, today is the first day I've woken up hungry!

Well I made it though the night 😅. Woken up and don’t feel ill or anything which is good.
yea I think that’s it isn’t it because it’s a Jab not a pill it makes it more daunting

Thistleton · 05/08/2025 08:31

Hello all, mind if I join you?

After a year of prevarication I have taken the plunge and jabbed last night. I have an extreme fear of vomiting so have started on less than 2.5mg and plan to increase very slowly. I accept I might not see any losses for several weeks but I need to do it this way to manage my anxiety (which was through the roof last night 😂)

Good luck everyone!

saywhaaaaaat · 05/08/2025 09:33

I think the nausea has kicked in a little this week and I think I had sulphur burps this morning. However, I did decide to go for a protein shake this morning which might have something to do with it. It's just kind of ... sat ... in my stomach.

My period has come now and it was fairly standard. I have had a bit of family stress this week which may be stressing me out more than I would typically be, but the scales are dropping and in fact, where I wasn't super expecting any weight loss following holiday etc, I'm down 5kg already! I know it's water weight blah blah blah blah, but it's more than I was expecting and I am "feeling" slimmer already. I've still got a way to go, but feeling super happy with this on 2.5mg. I think, at least for the next px I'll stick with 2.5mg.

We are away every weekend for the remainder of the summer, plus a festival, my birthday and a few weekdays away (we have a campervan so try and shove all we can in). I think food actually might be a bit easier now because usually I would spend the days grazing in places, but zero expectation to do this now, haha.

I see that in the news they are talking about how to support people following treatment now, obviously many of us are under private providers... so not sure how that's going to translate, but hopefully means that there will be some good guidance for whenever we need it.

Apart from a funny taste in my mouth, I've had no side effects so far. I even went out last night for curry and wine. Oops. Have been out with the dog for an hour and a half this morning and had some yoghurt, blueberries, and granola. I did feel hungry this morning like normal. I'll see how I go for the rest of the day. I'd normally be reaching for a snack about 11.

Gettingonwithgettingon · 05/08/2025 09:56

I'm a week in and 1.6kg down - again, water weight etc. etc. but I'm still happy with that! I didn't do very well yesterday though - my appetite was back, and I snacked a lot on junk - so I know I need to work on building good habits.

I was the same yesterday but think with having eaten so well for the week I was determined to stick to the same and managed.

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 05/08/2025 10:22

5.75lbs off this morning and 2nd jab done.

What sort of protein goal is everyone trying to aim for? My starting weight was 222lbs so at 0.36g a lb I figured about 80g a day.

I'm aiming for 100g. I've read so many books, watched so many youtubes and listened to so many podcasts and it's so overhwhelming.

I've just ordered my second pen, kept at 2.5mg and waiting for it to be prescribed. Hoping it arrives quickly though as I'm going to be away on thursday to Sunday, eeek.

Side note on this, I've had my email thorugh saying it's being processed... and the email says about photos? Do I need to do this everytime do you think? It let me pay and do a questionnaire without adding the photos when I did it?
